Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

That just leaves Celene... I will roll for her.

19:35, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 8 using 1d20.  Celene Initiative.

Well, at least most of you are all together down at the bottom of the initiative order!

Initiative:

25 Kassius & Kibeti
21 Angati
23 Vanthus
14 Thunder Lizards
11 V'sesslin (spellcaster)
13 Logan
10 Urol
8  Kinstal
8  Celene
X  Jade Ravens, Lavinia & misc
X  Lotus Dragons

To make life easy, I have moved Angati up so that she can move first (along with Kassius and Kibeti) and I have also moved V'sesslin up so that he can move with the Thunder Lizards. Then we will have two separate blocks from the next round onwards.

So... on to you Kassius and Angati. Use your free turn wisely! Note that you catch your opponents 'flat-footed'.

Additionally, it has been pointed out to me that Kassius is free to 'ready an action' during his turn to trigger if the spellcaster attempts to cast a spell. If you do that, please roll up the attack Kassius in order to save time.

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

Kassius draws an arrow to quiver and then waits. Spellcasters are always dangerous, and Vanthus had just ordered the man to burn down the boat he was standing in. So instead of firing as rapidly as possible, Kassius instead waits for the most opportune moment. Kibeti however is more aggressive, charging the demonic Vanthus, calling on his bond with Kassius to strengthen the blow. However, Vanthus is to quick for the large cat, who misses.

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

Kibeti jumps at Vanthus but the big demon-man kicks him to one side.

"Bah! Out of my way little kitty cat. You can't stand against the might of the Abyss!"

Angati calls out to Rowyn - there is no magic in her voice but she makes a good case... there is no way this can end well for Rowyn now. Still, the Lotus Lady seems torn... and she has also been tied up by Alohan and isn't able to do anything right at the moment.

Next Vanthus turns his attention to all those who oppose him on the 'Blue Nixie'. "Listen to me! Even if the Thunder Lizards don't get you, this ship is going to be burn to a crisp. Your only chance is to swim to the shore." The demon-man points through the storm racked air towards the surf breaking on a sandy beach about 200' away. The water is rough but it might be possible to swim there... maybe. Then his voice changes... it becomes clear that this is not a suggestion, it is a command.

"SWIM TO SHORE."

All of those on the 'Blue Nixie' feel compelled to move. All feel compelled to throw themselves into the water and start swimming for the shoreline.

OOC: Everyone on the 'Blue Nixie', make a DC19 will save or move as quickly as you can towards the shore to the SE. This is a spell-like ability (mass suggestion) and not a spell, so he doesn't trigger an AoO.

The thunder lizards charge out from their starting point, roaring... savagely. (And also removing the spellcaster's soft cover). They sprint down the pitching deck towards their opponents (these things have a speed of 70' so they can reach anything on the map when they are charging).

One (dino A) runs right past Kibeti (triggering an AoO) and into Kinstal. The armoured man is taken by surprise by the ferocity of the attack - it is his first time facing these 'savage creatures' after all - and gets bitten a lot (20 hp damage & DC18 fort save or contract savage fever).

OOC: Okay, so I made an assumption here. Angati can only use MF on one person a round and I assumed that MF will already be used by this point by Logan or Kinstal  (or even Alohan if we are still treating him like a PC) in order to pass the 'mass suggestion'. We can come back and correct this if I am wrong and I can reroll the crit if necessary.

Dino B goes for Logan and also manages to bite the rogue (9 hp and DC19 will save).

Dino C bites the other rogue on board (Zan takes 10 hp damage, he passes his fort save).

Dino D bites Kaskus (9 hp damage, he passes his fort save)

Dino E hits Tolin (9 hp, he fails his fort save and contracts savage fever.

SAVAGE FEVER: Incubation time is 1 minute. After that the victim looses 1d6 intelligence. Every couple of hours there after the victim looses another 1d6 intelligence points until they are cured or they reach zero intelligence, at which point they become a 'savage creature'.

Dino F jumps the gap across the two boats (acro check passed automatically) and barrels into Celene. The petit sorceress gets pushed back, but at least the creature is too enraged by bloodlust to sense her (she's invisible) and it turns on Skald instead. Before the ranger can even raise a hand to defend himself the creature has bitten him several times (12 hp, Skald seems immune to the poison though).

Kassius has drawn back an arrow in his bow and waited. Meanwhile, the man that Vanthus called "V'sesslin" has begun waving his hands and chanting. Kassius times his shot perfectly and the arrow whistles through the air and thumps into the middle of the man's chest. The sorcerer tries desperately to continue his spell as blood - not red blood, but dark green blood - spurts furiously out of his chest.

17:03, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 25 using 1d20+15.  V'sesslin concentation check.

OOC: Before anyone asks, yes, I did get his concentration check bonus correct. I am not going to lie to you, this guy is here to kill you all.

...but it is hopeless, the man looses his concentration and the spell is lost.

OOC: Kassius does HOW much damage?!

The 'man' stares at Kassius and hisses, displaying a forked tongue. He mutters to himself as he tries to stop the bleeding somewhat.

<snake language>"Holy frac that really stings!"</snake language>

OOC: Okay, and now for the tough bit (for the DM). Roll will saves against that suggestion spell. The DC is 19

Failed the save:
Zan (that cowardly cur probably didn't want to stick around anyway)
Rowyn (tied up)
Captain Rodrigo (this will probably save his life!)

Zan screams, his voice rising an octave in fear. "It's hopeless! We need to swim for it!" He turns tail and runs for the side (withdrawing so no AoO triggered).

"Zan! Fight it! Don't leave us!" yells Liamae. With Zan's departure there is now an opening in the shield wall protecting her. But it is too little too late.

Zan does hesitate when he reaches the side of the ship - he dives right over in a smooth motion, followed a second latter by the captain of the Blue Nixie.

Rowyn is also effected. She bucks and heaves on the ground. "All is lost. Run! Swim!" she screams.

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

Updated battlemap for mid round. I took the liberty of moving Angati by 5' in order to avoid her possibly triggering an AoO by Shefton and his buddy... not that I am saying those guys will attack you when their round actually comes, they are pretty shook up by recent events.

Now all the rest of the party (incl. Alohan) get to act, then it is the 'left overs' e.g. Lavinia, savage pirates & dragon lotus folk.

Alohan snorts. Alohan puffs as he takes in what has happened. With a bellow he leaves the tied up Rowyn and sprints across the deck to fill the gap left by Zan. With a roar he brings down his magical 'taiaha', the jade blade glittering as it carves through the rain and... misses by miles (nat '1' rolled for BOTH attack and damage. Jeez Ron, the curse lives on).

Spell-like abilities do provoke AoOs (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamema...g/special-abilities/).

Dungeon Master:
OOC: Kassius does HOW much damage?!

Only 17, and that was max damage. Concentration DC is 10+damage dealt+spell level, which basically means any reasonable attack is almost guaranteed to fizzle a spell.

In reply to Kassius (msg # 102):

OOC: Opps... well it worked out better with the AoO landing on the dino anyway.

Kibeti lashes out at the 'thunder lizard' as it charges past. He hits, but the hide of the beast is tough and he does less damage than he expected (8 hp on Dino A).

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

I might as well do the NPC's now.

"What do we do?" yells Kaskus, unsure of what his action should be (like usual). "What about Zan?"

"Forget him and just hold the line!" yells back Tolin. "Don't cast a spell. Liamae with handle them." The ranger swordsman is spinning backwards and forwards with his two weapon fighting technique.

Liamae's eyes roll back into her head as she calls upon the magical forces that her body is a channel for with a deep set chant formed in the back of her throat. Finally she calls out and her body convulses as a bolt of lightning arches down from the sky and sweeps across the deck... catching five of the six thunder lizards in its electrical energy!

OOC: Dino A 13hp, Dino B 27hp, Dino C 13hp, Dino D 27hp, Dino E 13hp = for 93hp damage total!

Liamae whoops as she comes back to reality and sees the result of her spell - no thunder lizards down but plenty of burnt skin and damage done. She waves her hands above her head and exclaims: "And the crowd goes wild!"

Tolin cuts into his dino opponent (hits 'E' for 18 hp). Kaskus hits his (hits 'D' for 5 damage).

OOC: I won't do Lavinia until after Kinstal. Is he going to give up his attack to try and grapple her and prevent her following her brother's command to join him?

Skald (nearly forgot about him) backs off from the Thunder Lizard trying to tear out his heart, presenting an excellent target to the Dragon Lotus thief right behind him (#6). The pale skinned 'elf' snarls at the man as the thief raises his rapier to sneak attack. "Don't. Just... don't..." The thief lowers his weapon again... looking to Shefton for directions. The situation was certainly getting confusing. Should he attempt to kill the people guarding him from the savage thunder lizards?

Skald fires off two arrows but the savage beast is right after him and he can't really take aim. He misses with both.

Additionally, it takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves. A slowed creature moves at half its normal speed (round down to the next 5-foot increment), which affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for decreased speed.

Smite Evil: 1/day as a swift action (adds CHA bonus (+0) to attack rolls and damage bonus equal to HD (+3) against evil/good foes; smite persists until target is dead or the celestial/fiendish creature rests).
TRAMPLE
As a full-round action, a creature with the trample ability can attempt to overrun any creature that is at least one size category Smaller than itself. This works just like the overrun combat maneuver, but the trampling creature does not need to make a check, it merely has to move over opponents in its path. Targets of a trample take an amount of damage equal to the trampling creature’s slam damage + 1-1/2 times its Str modifier. Targets of a trample can make an attack of opportunity, but at a –4 penalty. If targets forgo an attack of opportunity, they can attempt to avoid the trampling creature and receive a Reflex save to take half damage. The save DC against a creature’s trample attack is 10 + 1/2 the creature’s HD + the creature’s Str modifier (the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text). A trampling creature can only deal trampling damage to each target once per round, no matter how many times its movement takes it over a target creature.

Angati:
An big hairy Auroch appeared right behind Vanthus, furious wet breath came out of its nostrils as it moved over the place where Vanthus and the deformed pirate (4) were standing.

OOC: Pausing this until the start of the next round, since technically speaking Angati moves at the top of the round, not the bottom.

OOC: Better do this next... DC19 will save or Kinstal is dominated and heading for the beach!
20:47, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 21 using 1d20+2.  Kinstall will save.
OOC: Lucky.

Celene heads down the back of the Sea Wyvern, her invisibility allowing her to both escape the dangerous combat with the thunder lizard and sneak past the Lotus Dragon thief. Then she casts her spell, surrendering her protective spell in order to join the combat.

Three of the thunder lizards immediately succumb, and Angati works her magic on one more so that four of them immediately slow down (Dino A, B, C & E affected).

Vanthus proves to be more... problematic. Celene feels his presence resisting her spell, and she increases her concentration to bore through the protection...

OOC: Rolling on Celene's behalf to move things along.
20:52, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 13 using 1d20+6.  Celene caster level check vs Vanthus.

Vanthus just laughs and all Celene manages to do is draw his attention. "Is that all you have? Truly pathetic," he taunts as his deep set red eyes glower at her.

OOC: Okay, Kinstal... what would he do? Well, he is a bit of a protector so I think he would try and grapple Lavinia in order to prevent her continuing onto her brother.

20:24, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 25 using 1d20+9.  Kinstal grapples Lavinia.

Kinstal spins and sweeps Lavinia up in his arms, gritting his teeth as he now finds himself trying to both control the squirming noble woman and stop the savage creature from clawing him to death (at least this is dino A which was slowed).

"Don't let me go!" commands Lavinia as she continues to fight and break free from his grasp.

20:28, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 20 using 1d20+10.  Lavinia escape artist vs Kinstal.
OOC: Kinstal's CMD is 21, so she fails... just.

The warrior is surprised by the tenacity that she shows in trying to break free and continue to her doom, but just manages to keep his hold on her.

SP4 attacks Kibeti and misses by miles.

Vanthus snarls as he sees his sister stopped in her tracks. "Let my sister go you brute or prepare to pay the price," he says, issuing what almost sounds like a formal challenge to Kinstal.

Then the demon-man points at the two remaining savage pirates on the Blue Nixie. "You two! Get back to the Stygian Shark and active the wake portal. We're getting out of here." The two pirates cry out at being denied their chance for human flesh but move to comply by heading back onto the prow of the pirate boat. Once there they position themselves over the bestial figurehead on the front of the boat (a monstrous double headed shark with a mutated body and gigantic teeth) and draw their swords across their wrists. Green blood spills onto the figure head and it begins to glow green and slowly pulsate.

The remaining Dragon Lotus thieves look at each other, unsure what to do. Their plan was after all well and truly fracked now. "Come on," shouts Shefton over the melee. "Let's get the boss free and then get the frak out of here." The run down the length of the Sea Wyvern, ignoring Celene, and then jump to the Blue Nixie.

20:45, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 24 using 1d20+9.  Kinstal fort save vs savage fever.
OOC: He's okay.

OOC: Whew! And that takes us to the next round.

Battlemaps! Battlemaps! Get your fresh battlemaps here!

Angati:
An big hairy Auroch appeared right behind Vanthus, furious wet breath came out of its nostrils as it moved over the place where Vanthus and the deformed pirate (4) were standing.

OOC: In which squares is this herd of aurochs appearing and which squares do they end in order to be able to squish both Vanthus and SP4 and not end up in the water? :) Keep in mind that this 'monster' is 'large' so it takes up 4 squares. Okay, I say it turns up in L/M 10/11, goes due west, hitting one acid patches, and then tries to jump the gap over to the Blue Nixie at the end of its run...

Neither Vanthus nor his flesh craving lackey make any move to try and dodge the herd of cattle which suddenly and incongruously appear on the deck of the ship and charge towards them. SP4 does not flinch because he lacks the intellect to, and Vanthus because he believes it is beneath his dignity.

The savage pirate skewers the first cow to reach him (4 hp damage to the herd) but his joy is short lived as he is knocked down and trampled by the following animals. He spasms in the 'death throes' that the party have seen these creatures do before and manages to fell one more animal (6hp more damage, but they save vs savage fever). Then he explodes into a fountain of corrosive blood and half the cattle plow blindly into this (5 more points of damage!). Only a few animal get to run onwards.

OOC: Kibeti also needs to make a DC15 reflex save or get caught in the acid and take 1d6 damage. Making the save completely negates the damage.

Vanthus stands his ground. "Cattle? Really? Sigh, this truly is amateur hour, isn't it? Will it be rabbits out of hats next?" The longsword swings through the air and all the remain aurochs can do is 'moo' as they are sliced into mince meat (9 more hp for a total of 24hp. They are dead!).

OOC: Cool. At least now I won't have to add an icon for them onto the battlemap and make it look all messy.

Initiative:

14 Thunder Lizards
11 V'sesslin (spellcaster)

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

I believe Angati only summoned one Auroch, but I like the image of it being a whole herd!

Kibeti easily dodges the splash of acid, and stares down Vanthus, considering an attack. But deciding the man was to quick, he instead focusing on taking out the savage dinos.

Kassius meanwhile continues to direct fire at the mage V'sesslin. Instead of trying to time his shot to interfere with the casting, Kassius simply fires as rapidly as he can, hoping to drop the man, hitting with his first shot.

Angati breathed in and out trying to absorb all that was happening without falling down to panic, and she started summoning another creature.

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

Kassius:
I believe Angati only summoned one Auroch, but I like the image of it being a whole herd!

OOC: I love the image of it being a whole herd as well, much more funny. :D But are you sure about this? When I look up the level III summon monster spell and click on the auroch link, it takes me to a page where a herd of the animals are described.

Undeterred by the quick demise of her cattle, Angati holds her ground and starts casting another summoning spell.

Kibeti whips around and tears into dino A (23 damage).

V'sesslin had only just managed to get back on his feet when another of Kassius' arrows slams into his chest (16 hp damage) only an inch away from where the first hit. The snake man wheels back and drops to one knee again as the splurting of green blood from his chest intensifies and he lets out a low hissing moan. The damage that he has now taken would have incapacitated any human sorcerer, but V'sesslin doesn't have a drop of human blood in him...

Vanthus looks over from the neighbouring vessel and sighs. "V'sesslin, I hired you because everyone in Shuttlecove[*] said you were the best. So get the frac up AND START EARNING YOUR KEEP!"

The half-man half-snake thing known as V'sesslin makes a loud hissing noise and mutters a half-dozen dark oaths in his own tongue, but he gets back to his feet alright. He moves behind the two savage pirates activating the wake portal on the prow in order to get some (soft) cover and then casts his spell.

A small ball of blazing light flies out of his hands and heads straight for the back of the front mast of the Sea Wyvern. At the instant it connects with the woodwork, it turns into a incandescent ball of blazing fire, enveloping those at the prow of the vessel (Angati, Kassius, Celene, Urol & Skald).

[*] Shuttlecove is the infamous 'capital' of the 'Kingdom of Ierendi', the loose collection of pirates isles far to the north-west on the other side of the Sea of Dread.

17:55, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 34 using 9d6.  Fireball damage.
OOC: Those of you effected my make a DC19 reflex save to only take half damage.

Skald throws himself to the deck and hides from as much as the blaze as he can (17 hp), but for a few seconds he is trapped inside the heaving flames of the fireball - when it clears his clothes have almost been burnt off and his back is charcoal black. The sailor somehow remains conscious but he doesn't get up (dropped down to -11 hp).

Vanthus is close enough to the fireball to almost be singed by the warmth. He cheers! "That's more like it V'sesslin. Well done!" Lavinia's cries bring his attention back to what is happening on the Blue Nixie.

"Hang on Lavinia! I am coming for you!" he yells, genuine concern showing in his voice. He looks across the deck to where Liamae is getting ready to cast her next spell. "But first there is something else to take care of..." he mutters.

Vanthus unfolds his wings and leaps into the air, spinning to avoid Kibeti's attacks. Then he half leaps, half flies the 25' feet to land almost on top of the Jade Raven sorceress.

OOC: Okay, he flies over the top, so he isn't trying to go through any of your squares, but passes close enough that he would normally trigger lots of AoO's. He tries to use acrobatics to avoid this. He moves at full speed so the DC is increased by 10.

Avoid Kibeti DC = KibetiCMD + 10 = 30
Avoid Kinstal DC = KinstalCMD + 10 + 2 = 33
Avoid Logan DC = LoganCMD + 10 + 2 + 2 = 34
Avoid Alohan DC = AlohanCMD + 10 +2 +2 +2 = 40

18:10, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 25,34,36,33 using 1d20+17,1d20+17,1d20+17,1d20+17.  Vanthus acrobatics checks x 4.

Vanthus manages to avoid triggering AoO from Kinstal and Logan, but triggers Kibeti and Alohan.

Alohan doesn't hesitate to slice through the air and cuts Vanthus in the leg (12 hp).

OOC: I will let Kibeti make his own AoO.

Vanthus lands almost on top of the hapless sorceress while calling out in a dark tongue that only one other person understands... Celene recognises it as Abyssal. ('Charge'/fly + smite good). Liamae's right arm is almost ripped off from the blow (17 hp).

The thunder lizards mindlessly attack the targets in front of them. The four slowed lizards only attack one and less effectively (-1 to attack).

Dino A (slowed): Hits Kinstal for 11 hp, make a DC18 fort save or get savage fever
Dino B (slowed): Hits Logan for 7 hp, Logan already has savage fever
Dino C (slowed): Hits Alohan for 12 hp, he successfully saves vs the savage fever
Dino D (normal): Hits Kaskus for 20 hp, he successfully saves vs the savage fever
Dino E (slowed): Hits Tolin for 7 hp, he successfully saves vs the savage fever
Dino F (normal): Hits Urol for 19 hp, make a DC18 fort save or get savage fever

OOC: Okay, the rest of you are up now. That is Celene, Logan, Urol, Kassius, Kibeti, Kinstal and Alohan + the Jade Ravens & Lavinia.

Re: 3D - SWW - Part Four: Life on the Ocean Waves Part 2

Celene tries to find cover from the blast of fire but is unable. The heat washes over her first she feels only a tickle and then the heat pours in and blisters her skin. Hoping her allies can take care of the savage dinosaurs Celene focuses her efforts on stopping the other ship from leaving. She fights through the pain and draws upon her blood to warp the deck beneath the savage pirates and the other sorcerer. She then draws a thin wand from her belt.

Free :  | Swft :  | Move : Draw Wand of CLW  | Stnd: Cast Create Pit | Full :

Casting create pit on squares I:6,I:7, J:6, J:7

This should hit X, 9, 2 all need reflex saves DC19 or fall 30 feet and take 3D6 damage. Also #1 will need a reflex save if he stays adjacent the next round.

Celene fails her save but only takes 24 damage.
