OOC: Agreed, but Liamae is not able to cast lightning bolt and the party is therefore still exposes in that regard.
They are currently sitting in the hold, but you get them out and set them up at the front of the ship.

Check. Get ready with magic-missile as backup spell disrupter. Check. Stop the wake portal being activated. Okay, I got enough to get started here. The party ready the 'mother of all ambushes' and the 'Stygian Shark' walks right into it. The initial assault from the savage pirates is quickly seen off. Then Vanthus is revealed in a very different manner to last time. Avner Meravanchi decides to make a break for a lifeboat during the fighting, bursting out of the captain's quarters and sprinting for the port side of the ship. He is brought up short when he runs into an invisible 'wall'... while suddenly shimmers and then reveals itself to be the seven foot tall, slimy scaled, red eyed, demonic form of Vanthus Vanderboren. ![]() "Avner? Is that you old buddy?" asks the newly minted fiend (love that turn of phrase!). "It's me. Vanthus!" The nobleman looks up into the demonic visage of his old drinking friend. He mouth opens and shuts for a few seconds before any words come out. "Oh, heeeeeeey buddy! How are you?" Avner's eyes dark left and right looking for a way out. "Oh, I'm great. I mean..." Vanthus spreads his arms wide. "I became a frakken demon, right?!" "Yeah. Super. Um, hey, look, I have to go..." "No! Stick around buddy! Look, they won't go around doing this for everyone, but if I put a good word in, I might be able to fix you up with the same treatment. Just let me finish off these bozos first!" Avner jumps into the lifeboat as soon as Avner has moved onto the main combat. Things do not go well for the team from the Abyss. V'sesslin is unable to get a spell off due to Urol, Kassius, Celene and the two men on the ballistas covering him. He dies in a hail of missile fire with an angry hiss. The savage thunder lizards are not able to jump off the Stygian Abyss without becoming entangled in the netting thrown up around the sides. The are pushed into the water and destroyed with missile fire. Vanthus howls in fury and yanks one of Lavinia's ear plugs out. With a word of command she is under his control. But Kinstal is ready for this and throws a large burlap sack over the enthralled noblewoman. Then Logan smites the demon-man for a gazillion points of damage and the fight is quickly over. Vanthus teeters on the edge of the ship. "But I am a frakken demon!" he mutters, then begins to topple into the water... but Kinstal scoops him up and throws his body on the deck. Maximum loot has been achieved! Vanthus ship and all of the bodies are searched revealing... OOC: And this is the monty-haul... I'll take the wand of fireball and the cloak of charisma if possible? I'd be willing to trade someone my headband +2 for it. OOC: That is an awesome haul! Logan puts his vote in for: +3 Mithral Shirt Ring of Protection +2 (Can you wear two Rings of Protection and have them stack? It would be easier to put a skeleton crew on it and sail it into the nearest major port as a prize ship. Raven Skarp is close by... how much would that thing be worth anyway? | |||||||||||||||||

Charisma is my thing too... but if you need it more you take it Celene. If there is any ring of protection left, I could make use of it. The mythral armor and buckler would be fine too… You guys make your picks first, I'll get from whatever is left... I am clearly having a high enough survivability... Yeah, previously we've had a 'dice off' to decide who picked first, this time it was done by timezone :D
Yeah, I just copied and pasted it from the module without converting it all into its pathfinder equivalents, and I sort of regret that now. Yes, it is an amulet of +2 con. Kassius gets that and the Elvenkind boots. Yes Celene, it is a headband of charisma +4, not a cloak.
Well, you can get Celene's hand-me-downs. She currently has a Headband of Charisma +2, and you can take that when she gets the +4 headband.
Again, you can get Logan's Ring of Protection +1 since he got the ring of protection +2.
Logan got the mythral armour, you could get the buckler +1 but you already have one of those! How about a rapier +1 or keen sickle +1 to replace your boring old morning star?
She has turned out so differently from what we originally thought she would be... she is a real tank. | |||||||||||||||||

My AC right now is 22/13/20 before adding ring of protection or spells... I have my +1 cestus, I don't really need the rapier, I think that's more for Logan... Ok, so I get the: - old +1 ring protection from Logan, - old +2 charisma headband from Celene and I think that is that... I am not running short of older brothers and sisters to inherit their old clothes, Ill just talk to mum about this. Someone get that cloak of manta ray, its great... Kinstal I think its best as its more useful on a warrior than on a caster. Also, have logan or Kinstal take the cure potion. And Logan if you can use venoms, keep all those doses for you. As for the polymorph and the fireballs... I have a 16 in UMD, so maybe I can make use of the fireballs else Celene... (but it may be nice as I don't have much to do damage form a distance, all my spells are support for the most part). For the polymorph I don't know if anyone here can cast the spell already ? else whoever has highest UMD ?. | |||||||||||||||||

Then the squabbling starts. The jade raven declare that it is unfair that the party has cut them out of the deal. The rest of the magical items are therefore quickly claimed including the potion of cure moderate wounds (Kaskus), cloak of the manta ray (Tolin), miscellaneous magic weapons and even the poison (Zan). Since no casualties were taken at all, it is possible to man the 'Stygian Shark' and sail it into the nearest harbour - the Thyatian port of Raven Skarp. There it is sold for 12,500 gp and added to the pool of cash. Unfortunately, it is customary for such prices to be split with all the crew down to the lowest seaman, so the party ends up not getting so much out of it. One thing that does happen is that Alohan insists that the 'wake portal', as Vanthus called the strangely shaped figurehead at the front of the ship, is removed before the ship is sold. It doesn't seem fair to send the unsuspecting new owners off with a ship that might accidentally transport them into the Abyss, and as the native points out, maybe one day the party might need to head into the Abyss? OOC: Each PC gets 1,000 gp each and can spend it in town. Write your cash/items on your character sheets or you loose them! OOC: Okay, are we done here? Yes? Then on we go! The Sea Wyvern and the Blue Nixie sail out from port and make good progress for two days. On the third day their luck ends as late that night the wind whips into a frenzy, and by dawn, the ships are caught in a full-fledged storm. Alohan tries his best, but the ship is driven off coarse by the high winds that day and Urol throws up his hands in despair at the effort of trying to reckon their position. Thankfully the Sea Wyvern is a large enough ship that it is able to weather the stormy day without damage. By the evening, the skies remain cloudy but the wind dies down once again. But unfortunately, the storm has had another effect in addition to getting them a little lost. The Blue Nixie is nowhere to be seen. Lavinia's standing orders in this situation is to continue to the colony of Farshore on the Isle of Dread and reunite there. So even though they have no way of knowing if Lavinia's ship made it through the storm okay, the continue onwards through the night. |
