Re: 3F - SWW - Part Five: Journey's End

Logan:
Ah, right, forgot it was a ranged touch, not versus AC

A sailor fills a flask with oil, sticks a rag in the top and then lights it with a torch. This dangerous concoction is then passed onto the rogue who quickly flings it at VH#7. It lands on the vine horror and covers it in burning hydrocarbons.

VH4 & 5 also take one 1hp of splash damage.

OOC: Cool, can I get a damage roll for VH7. Only 1d6 damage, but the VH will need to use a round to put the flames out or keep taking fire damage.

Celene:
Not sure if it matters but I hit a assassin vine. Don't know if the same 8 DMG to free someone applies.

So these things have resist cold & fire 10, huh? And you did 8 hp after the DR? Cool, but it doesn't break the grapple, only the vine horrors have that weakness. Note that in an earlier post that I implied that Celene doing damage had broken the grapple and freed Kibeti, but that was because I got confused about whether he was grappled by a VH or an assissin vine.

Anyway, Alohan killed AV 'd' anyway, so it is all good.

quote:
Free Action: Five foot step into J5 (the square assassin vine d was in)

OOC: The entire sargasso is difficult terrain for the characters (although not to the VH or AV) so Kibeti can not take a 5' step. I am going to rule that he stays where he is and uses his full attack.

Kibeti hits AV'c' for 16hp. Kassius hits AV'b' for 24 hp. Alohan hits three AV, killed 'b' and 'd' and wounding 'c'.

OOC: THanks so much Celene for keeping track of the damage, it is really helping me out. AND thanks for running Alohan in the combat. Can you also please track how many rounds of rage Alohan has left?

OOC: Kinstal and the NPC's still to act. I also need a damage roll from Logan.

Re: 3F - SWW - Part Five: Journey's End

I also just realized that AV'a' was adjacent to the pit at the end of its turn so it needs to make a DC20 reflex save or fall in.

11:17, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 14 using 1d20+1.  AV'a' reflex save to not fall into pit.

OOC: G'damn it. How big is this fucking pit?!?

AV'a' flails its seaweed tendrils around as it falls into the pit (14 hp damage).

Re: 3F - SWW - Part Five: Journey's End

In reply to Celene (msg # 80):

So when people who are adjacent to it fall in, they don't actually move, do they? So I assume that the pit actually has dimensions slightly more than 20' x 20', maybe it is 30' x 30' and overlaps 5' into adjacent squares so that if you end your turn there you might fall in. The edge must be quite indistinct since it is so hard to avoid falling in.

Are there flame arrows in Pathfinder? It seems to me that's what the party needs right now.

Kinstal hits AV'c' (8 hp) and it breaks apart.

Skald snatches a medieval Molotov cocktail from sailor and lobs it at VH6 in the pit...

21:58, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 11 using 1d20.  Skald throws flask.
OOC: Gee. -4 for throwing an object not designed for throwing, then -2 for the range increment.

22:03, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 4 using 1d8.  Miss direction, 1=North then clockwide.

The potion lands in H9 and then promptly explodes, sending splashes on burning fluid onto VH7, 10, 11, 12 & 13 (but not VH4 who is down the pit). Skald looks around, glowering at anybody who dares content that that wasn't his plan all along.

Urol moves his hand away from the collection of bombs at his waist - this is starting to look like it is going to be a long day so maybe he shouldn't use all of his most powerful magic up in the first 30 seconds of combat. He also picks up an oil flask, gets a sailor to light it and throws it at VH8.

22:09, Today: Dungeon Master rolled 18 using 1d20+4.  Urol throws.
OOC: At least he has 'throw anything'. Still -2 because these things only have a range of 10'

The flask lands directly on the vine horror (VH8) and starts a good fire going (6hp), along with some splash damage on VH3 & 6. Urol screws up his face. "Okay I guess. Not as much fun as the professional stuff though."

Sailor#2 aims the ballista at AV'e' and pulls the trigger... he misses by miles. Sailor#1 likewise misses the vine horror he was aiming for. It is clear that the sailors have almost no chance of hitting the vines with the unwieldy weapons, but they start reloading anyway.

Vine horrors VH4, 7, 9, 12 & 14 have now completed their squishy escape from Kassius' entanglement spell. Unfortunately for VH4, 9 & 14, they find themselves at the bottom of Celene's pit. They cry out and animate additional patches of the Sargasso sea (pls say hello to AV g, h & i). These immediately attack.

The other VH in the pit scramble at the walls uselessly, but don't have a chance of getting out.

Hmm... what am I going to do with those guys? Just wait for Celene's spell to expire?
They can only summon once a day so that is out.

VH7 steps forward towards Kibeti. Unfortunately, he is slowed and too close to charge, so he can't attack. But his buddy VH12 is further away, so he CAN perform a partial charge and attack (where's the logic in that?!). He hits the cat (7 hp).

VH10 (who was the only VH to save vs the entanglement in the first round) runs towards the ship and starts climbing up towards the ballista manned by sailor#1.

VH11 & 13 start breaking free using their squishy technique.

Two of the recently summoned AV attack Kibeti, one hits and the cat falls unconscious! (12 hp and grappled by AV'h'.

AV'g' hits Alohan (10 hp) and does the impossible - it actually manages to grapple him!

AV'e' and 'f' loose interest in Kibeti's soon to be corpse, and move to the NW. AV'e' reaches the ship and uses its long reach (10') to attack Kinstal. The armour master is caught totally ofguard, not expecting the plant to be able to reach up so high and is hit (11 hp).

You saw that Kibeti fought defensively (and I switched his animal focus), so his AC is 25 right? Do the attacks still hit?

In reply to Kassius (msg # 84):

Opps, no, I didn't take that into account. With an AC25 of 25 then both the attacks miss and Kibeti is not grappled... and not dying. Sorry about the screw up.

I am going the rest of my post the same to minimize the rework for myself - at least this way it is only Kibeti's hit point total that is affected.

I believe two were on fire VH8 and VH6. They will take another 1d6 if they didn't snuff themselves out.

The pit isn't more than 10'x10' it does have sloped sides which is why people adjacent need to save. But everyone falls into the same hole.

I believe two were on fire VH8 and VH6. They will take another 1d6 if they didn't snuff themselves out.

Yep. Got it. Slow and steady wins the day.

Celene:
The pit isn't more than 10'x10' it does have sloped sides which is why people adjacent need to save. But everyone falls into the same hole.

I agree that the bottom of the pit is 10' x 10', but due to the sloped sides I think that the top is larger than this - and I assume that the upper boundary is indistinct as well since people drop into it so easily. Anyway, that is why I don't move people when they drop into the pit after standing adjacent to it. They stay where they are and then I assume that the pit stretches out into the part of that square where they were standing.

Between Alohan and Celene, vine 'g' is torn apart, freeing the islander.

Urol misses (except for some splash damage).

Logan watches the gnome's attack, then nods.  "You thinking those monsters can call the vines?  We should concentrate on them?"

"Just take out enough of those vines that the captain can get back to the ship," yells Skald. He doesn't say anything about Kassius' animal companion, apparently considering it expendable...

...which it is since he can just summon another companion.

Logan heals a few points of damage.

Kassius, Kibeti and Kinstal still to play.

Kassius glares at the man, but doesn't bother responding. He's to busy firing rapidly, trying to kill the things attacking Kibeti... and Alohan. Kibeti meanwhile continues to crouch low, only occasionally striking. The posture reduces his chances of landing a successful hit, but significantly increase his defenses.

Re: 3F - SWW - Part Five: Journey's End

Don't forgot bows are x3 not x2.

So it would be another 1d8+3. Which won't matter since the min 4 will kill it.

KAssius Vine g is already dead but not removed from the map. Can I shot your attacks to Vine i

Minor correction, but Logan's at 17, not 14, after drinking the healing potion.

Thanks. Read that twice and forgot to add it as I was just checking for damage at first.
