3G - SWW - Part Six: The Masher Reef
Only five days after the Sea Wyvern escapes the clutches of the living sargasso, she encounters her greatest threat yet.

As the sun dawns the day is overcast and foreboding. Spirits are cheered though when there is a cry from the crows nest - land. The ragged jungle-choked peaks of the Isle of Dread loom on the horizon. The sight of land brings claps and crys of delight from the crew and passengers and Urol confirms the news after consulting with the nautical charts - the Sea Wyvern has nearly reached her goal. All that remains is to sail down the Eastern Coast to the colony of Farshore.

There is still no sign of the Blue Nixie (the Sea Wyvern was separated from the other ship in the storm that proceeded their entrapment at Journey's End).

Alas, by the time that morning becomes noon, it is obvious that fate has some else in store for the ship. Huge storm clouds blow in and the rain begins shortly thereafter. By nightfall the storm is in full force. This storm is much more powerful than the first - not quite a hurricane but close.

OOC: Alohan must make a DC30 sailing check to stay on course. Failure indicates... well, something bad, you'll see. No rerolls due to MF allowed since this is a check carried out over several hours.

Alohan attempts to steer the ship clear of the reef. The wrenching sound of wood and metal scraping against stone signals his inability to do so.

06:25, Today: Alohan Nuari rolled 18 using 1d20+14.  Sailing Check.

OOC: Oh dear, oh dear...

A tremendous lurch strikes the ship and the sound of splintering wood is heard over the howling wind. The ship comes to a sudden halt, sending those on deck sliding along the slick wood.

The ship has run aground on a reef a few miles from shore.

The next few minutes is spent trying to patch up the damage as much as possible, but the ship has been holed in several places and it is only by putting the entire crew to work at bailing that the Sea Wyvern can stay afloat. As the night grows darker it is clear that their beloved vessel is in poor shape.

The storm abates somewhat, and Alohan is at least able to captain the vessel off the reef. He steers it, limping with crushed sidewalls and tattered sails towards the looming jungle clad mountains in the distance. Then, caught by the storm and the tide, the badly listing Sea Wyvern is driven towards the shore. The primeval vista looms larger at the party through the driving rain, periodically lit by flashes of lightning. Suddenly the Sea Wyvern tilts crazily to one side, lurches one last time, and rolls.

The cold dark sea rushes up to meet the PCs and in a cacophonous roar of wave and ruin, all goes dark...
