Re: Out of Character Discussion
Honestly, I'd rather have a few dozen buildings I can enter, instead of hundreds that I can't interact with in any way. Besides, it isn't as big of an issue, considering all the other content available (especially so, if you mod the game) - I mean, I have over 200 hours in Skyrim and I haven't finished the main quest even once. I've become archmage, assassinated an emperor, robbed nobles blind and fought on both sides of a civil war, and still have hundreds of hours worth of things to do.

Though I must say, who would ever want to be a Thalmor agent? They're all pompous supremacist butts and actually worse than the Stormcloaks. Not to mention if playing a Thalmor agent was mutually exclusive to being the Dragonborn, you couldn't ever complete the game - Considering only the Dragonborn can defeat Alduin.

Although I agree with the ramifications, not just politically. I love how in Oblivion, after you save Kvatch, people actually react to you all like, "Holy crap! You're the hero of Kvatch!". In Skyrim though? "Whatborn now? Who? Alduin? Nah, never heard of him. What civil war? Shut up and go mop my floor."

Re: Out of Character Discussion
But that was just it. In daggerfall, you COULD enter every building that was there.  And sure, I logged hundreds of hours in Skyrim as well on several different characters.  Doesn't mean that I wish it was a bit different.

You know, I loved fast travel in Daggerfall.  Asked how you wanted to travel, told you how long it would take you to get where your going, had a brief chance of encounters, and asked if you wanted to camp outside, or if you wanted to stay in Inn's.

Since I have my game on the PS3, I do not get to do mods.  Also, while I like mods, and think they are great, I don't use those to judge games.  As for who wants to be a Thalmor Agent, I like elves (First TES character I ever ran was a High Elf from Summerset in arena, aside from my 10 minutes playing an Orc in Morrowind when I saw it at my friends house.), and really, they have a good point about Talos, (even the Imperial in The Talos Mistake admits it), and hell, they sort of have a right to be.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
Most locations in Arena/Daggerfall were also procedurally generated from a pool of set pieces, and very much lacking in detail or variation. With the evolution of graphics and assets, they've also become not only more demanding on hardware, but manpower as well. I'd rather have limited, but beautifully crafted, detailed and intricate locations, instead of disappointing and repetitive copies of square bricks.. Or, you know, New Vegas from Fallout, where the developers clearly overshot and landed flat on their butts, thanks to hardware limitations (it didn't help they were also developing it for consoles).

You forget to make the distinction between Altmer and Thalmor; The people do not always represent the ideas of their government. I have nothing against the Altmer and have played plenty of elves myself, however the Thalmor are racists and supremacists, who believe themselves the rightful rulers of Tamriel and go around imprisoning/murdering Humans, whether or not they worship Talos. Their self-proclaimed "right" to rule Tamriel, is no more special than the "right" of Humans to hold the Imperial throne.

Also, The Talos Mistake is propaganda, written by the Imperial ambassador to the Dominion, so of course it encourages the ban on Talos worship and claims it to be just. The fact of the matter is, however, that Tiber Septim did ascend to godhood and so those who wish to do so, have every right to worship him.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
But how does one KNOW that he actually ascended?  I mean, people keep saying it sure... but the only possibly proof that I have seen, is the Quest in Oblivion where you need an artifact of Aedra blood.  But, I can't think of any other reference in game, other then him being labled as such.

As for the Thalmor/Altmer.  I agree.  While I agree with the Dominion (Unified Mer kind), the Thalmor are... Racist.  As for believing they have a right to Tamriel... they sort of do.  I mean, this land was almost exclusively elves, till the Humans showed up in the first Era. So to say they have as much right to it as the humans have to the throne, is true.  It was a Human that created an Empire, it would be a human that has the right to the Imperial throne.  As for the MMO, it is interesting to see the Dominion more for how I see it, then as just a bunch of bigots.  Also, their are various factions within the Dominion, the Thalmor just happen to be the ones in power.

As for the Graphic design yes.  I understand that, most shops looked very similar.  But, 3d dungeon maps, non-linar dungeons, and the Random Dungeon Generator?  Come on... those were awesome.

Plus... I wish they had kept some of the skills... like climbing.  And time had more of a factor (Time sensitive quests).  Their is no sense of urgency in the newer games.... A dragon attacked the Watchtower!  Eh... I am going to go fishing, then go to Markarth, and kill some forsworn, and then skip through the lilly's while I join the Dawnguard!  What?  It's been almost 2 years, and the dragon is still at the watchtower?

Time should matter.. things should move along... and hell, quests should be be able to be failed.  Some can, granted, but most can't.

Also, factions... I know their are some mods that add to this, but I wish that their were factions.  But I guess that's me thinking beyond the scope of the game, and thinking it more like an Open RPG and less like an RPG Adventure... And the guilds... are kinda empty.  Not in like, their aren't any people in them, though.. that is something, but also they sorta just.. are their to fill out roles.

Brotherhood is sorta shoehorned in almost.  But, really, it plays allot like the Oblivion questline, and more or less ends the same (you become listener).  But instead of just getting money from your hommies who are doing the killing, you gotta do it yourself.

Companions has the Werewolf thing, which was kinda cool.  But seeing as that is the only way one can become a were in the game, and the few extra totem quests, once your done with their line... its just a place to go sleep and possibly get a follower.  Also, legendary mead hall, and their are....8 people?

College is SO over the top.  And Becoming Archmage really doesn't do anything except give you another set of sleeping quarters.  Though, with the removal of magic item creation being an exclusive mage guild thing, and spell crafting all together, what else could they have?  I did like the staff maker in the Dragonborn DLC... that was nifty.

Then you have the Civil War questline.  Regardless of who you pick, the game plays out mostly the same, and your rank means nothing.  You can never recruit Imperial/Stormcloak Soldiers to be your followers.  You can't wipe out the camps dotting the landscape, can't kill the enemy Jarls, and even after you START the questline, you can still walk into enemy towns like nothings happening.

Guess I am just overthinking things.. or just want more.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
I'm sorry, what MMO? There hasn't been an Elder Scrolls MMO.

Well that's part of the issue, NO ONE presently living in the 4th Era knows for sure. Not the Thalmor, not the Empire, no one. But we could argue about Talos until the third coming of Alduin, without making much headway, until Elder Scrolls VI rolls around and possibly sheds some light on the situation. Although even if Tiber Septim didn't ascend to godhood, the people still have a right to revere and worship him, if they choose to do so.

However I agree as far as the lack of features goes. Everyone wants more, which is why you separate Lore from Game. However with more and more advanced hardware nowadays, game developers will be able to do so much more. Bethesda has already hinted at the possibility of pre-loaded instances (as in, no loading screens when transitioning from outside to interior) being in their next title (Fallout 4, I hope), thanks to "next" gen technology.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
Ya, I will believe it when I see it.  Sony used to brag back in the day that 'load screens were a thing of the past thanks to the increased capacity and hardware of their playstation!'

PS has some of the longest load times, because the tech was new.  But even so, the thing about it is, the more they put in, or the more they try pushing the graphics envelope, the less or longer content/load times are gonna be.  Like, I WISH, that they would do an updated version of Daggerfall.  a bit smoother graphics, some glitches removed if possible, and (much as I would love to see it function), finishing or removing the language skills.

But, it will never happen.  Best I got is the updated version to play on newer rigs thanks to my Anthologys.  I might get around to doing what I had only done once before (playing the same type of character, in order, from Arena to Oblivion.).  I mean, I never played Battlespire, or Redguard, but Arena/Daggerfall seem like actual sequals.  Also, out of the core games, Daggerfall is the only one where you don't start as a prisoner.

Re: Out of Character Discussion
Ya, even PC gaming has it's share of load times.. just sometimes, they are hidden under something else.  Some Command and Conquer games had their load times hidden under the FMV, others not so hidden during the mission briefing.  Games got clever so that they seemed part of the action sometimes.

Don't take it personal, but were on a mission from God, I don't think many would belive that, let alone like the Gods, Daedra, or Aedra, interfering in the moral plan.

As for my first piece of evidence, I have the audience look to the Oblivion Crisis.

Umm, yea, the oblivion crisis, at the end of which the entire imperial city could watch Mehrunes Dagon and Akatosh duke it out.

300 years or no, still the best reference to the Gods stepping into the Mortal realm. I figured thanks to those legends people would not really want to see the Gods again ripping up the farm land.

And the Ears of the Dominion and traders of gold, are not the right ears to speak anything of the Divine.

That is a tenet, and if broken, it invokes the wraith of Sithis.

No one knows who took the Moons, all that is known is that the Thalmor claim they used dawn magics to bring them back. And the Khajiit of Elsweyr believe them. Since I am such a Khajiit, I believe the same.
