Re: Out of Character Discussion

If you insist, I suppose that's fair enough. I'll fast forward us to the planned rendezvous and then we'll just proceed from there. I'll have the post up soon™, at the latest tomorrow, I'm also writing out some other things in preparation at the moment!

In reply to Et'Ada (msg # 162):

Nice closure. :)

About these skill points, can they also be used on attributes (or is that separate)?
And how does it work exactly, can I give two skills +3 and one +1? Or is there an increasing cost? (second rank costs 2 points, third rank costs 3 points)

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Thank you! I hope you'll like the Chapter 2 intro as well. :)

As for your question, I hope this clears it up:
Et'ada:
Level Up!
All characters gain Seven (7) Skill Points! Attributes can be increased by a maximum of three (3) points; No limit on Skills.

(Just in case it didn't though; Yes, points can be spent both on Attributes and Skills; However you can only assign a maximum of three to each attribute!)

Oh, here I thought it was just 3 to Attributes... like, total, so 1/1/1 or 1/2 or 3... something like that.

I thought about doing it like that, but in the end decided against it, since seven points isn't that much in the long run anyhow.

I for one have spent the past couple of days, in the wasteland wonderland of Fallout 4 and loving every minute of it. Steam tells me I now have 35 hours put into it... oops! I guess I'm more addicted to Fallout, than old Mama Murphy is to chems.

EA is the publisher, the developer is this DICE that I don't really know anything about.  The fact their is no Single player made my happily optimistic self when I heard about it originally and saw some of the footage, to... cautiously optimistic.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Well DICE has proven themselves with the Battlefield-franchise (although to me, all shooters are basically the exact same game, save for a few exceptions), but EA is notorious for sucking the love and joy out of franchises, just so they can turn a profit. No doubt EA's corporate greed has been seeping all over DICE's necks, telling them to dumb the base-game down, so they can milk the Star Wars -license. I played the Beta and while even I, someone who rarely plays online shooters (as I'm horrible at them), found it fun. However I don't reckon the full game will be much different from the Beta.

My guess is, they'll chop up all the fun parts and sell them to people as over"full"-priced DLC, alongside what I'm sure will be so many map- and vanity-packs, even Paradox will be jealous! All that being said, I would be happily surprised if this wasn't what'll happen with Battlefront.. but alas, EA has proven time and time again (SimCity, the Sims, Mass Effect, SWTOR, Dragon Age to name a few bigguns) they only care about maximizing their profits. It's not the developers' fault, after all they're stuck working under the iron fist of corporate commander and face the boot, should they disobey.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Well, I was supposed to pick up my copy (And system) tomorrow, but alas, the money isn't there, so I have to wait till Friday.  I will see how it goes...

as for EA, eh.  I  can't say anything too bad that hasn't been said, but.. I still love some of the things they have.  Command and Conquor is/was amazing (last one I really played was RA3, which I thought was very well done).

That being said, the Sims isn't that bad ither.  As for 'DLC' that is the consumers fault more then the company, and techs fault.  Once those DLC packs would have been called expansions.  But because so many people go digital, online has changed, and the fact that people BUY said DLC packs, that has become the corporate norm.  Most big name publishers do it, some worse then others.  But the things you listed, I don't have problems with (save maybe SWTOR, but that is a different issue all together).

The things I have been hearing bad about Battlefront, is that it really doesn't define itself as anyhintg.  It is just... Battlefield, with a Star Wars skin... haven't played Battlefield, except the REALLY old one... way back when.. and even then, that was only a few times at a friends house, so I will reserve my own judgement....

I am hoping it lives like it's predecessors, but with the exclusion of a real single player, the fact one can't play vs AI (Like in the old galactic conquests, except this 'survivor mode' thing where two commandos try surviving waves of dudes), and the lack of real space battles (so far.. Pretty sure it will be DLC shortly upon release, since they have the dogfight mode in atmo), along small things, like on the rails AT-ATs.. although I understand why in the ATAT assault mode why it is...

Small things can add up... and most of the time, I stop playing online shooters because of the people, way more then the game...

See im split about EA i hate Origen... But I can not deby my love for everything star wars. At the same time I still shake a fist of rage for what they did to the Ultima series. I was going to get Battlefront but i might wait till I finish FO4 a couple of times first.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Even back when they were expansion packs and you had to get a physical disc to play them, they were overpriced. However back then, the content usually justified the price-tag. Nowadays, expansions/DLCs especially for EA games, are (more often than not) lackluster and simply contain features, that should've been in the base game, but were cut out because EA wanted to make money. Not to mention what they've done to some of the other big franchises they own; In Mass Effect 3 they sunk their teeth into the narrative and tacked on whored mode multiplayer. Dragon Age 2 was a total fiasco and while Inquisition was better than 2, it was barely equal to Origins. SimCity 2013 was a horrible mess of dumbed down features and DRM, which was true for Sims 4 as well, the base game of which actually has less in it than Sims 3 (but comes with the exact same full-priced "expansions"). None of that is the fault of the developer (although some suck off EA harder than others *coughmaximcough*), when it's EA pulling the strings, trying to squeeze out as much money as they can, all the while sacrificing the fun.

It'll be no different for Battlefront. Honestly, I half expect them to take a new low and start up pay-to-win microtransactions, with better equipment and weapons. Hell, they already did that with the Deluxe edition (or w/e) they were selling, that included Han Solo's blaster and whatever. Yeah, you can (supposedly) unlock that stuff by playing, but the fact of the matter is, someone will still have a significant advantage over you early on, simply because they paid more.

And while you're right, that partially it's the consumers buying into these overpriced DLCpansion packs, that perpetuates the problem - Should you really complain, if you fully intend to buy Battlefront and thus support EA and their shitty practices? Making you a "part of the problem"? Personally, I couldn't give two frakks about Battlefront, but will enjoy watching it crash and burn like Titanfall or Destiny did. Although, as I said, I'd also equally enjoy watching the opposite happen, however I have no reason to put faith into EA turning their ship around. What we saw in the beta, is what we'll get in the "full" game. Everything else will be sold for 40 bucks a pop.

But make no mistake, EA will be responsible for Battlefront's failure, not DICE. The developers are only working for a paycheck, which unfortunately comes from such jerks as EA.

Well Titanfall just kind of went into the whisper of the winds, as for Destiny. Well its kicking and screaming on its way out by the looks of things.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Ya, I hear nothing about Titanfall.... however, Destiny is a Love/Hate thing.  People love the game, or they hate it.  So, that game will live, albit smaller then probably intended, but with talk of Destiny 2, and the release of their 'expansion' I doubt it is going anywhere for a bit.

As for supporting EA.. that depends.  See, I bought SWBFDE, so I will see if those 'advantages' are real or not.  As for the rest... Sure, buying the game 'supports' the company, and everyone involved (Including DICE).  But see, I have bought games before, and not touched any DLC on them.  (Such as the Dynasty Warriors Series... which I love).  The real DLC purchases I have bought, were for Skyrim, and that is because I am a big ES fan... but also because I thought they did truly add to the game (less then I thought, but more then enough to justify the price).  I also get DLC off steam when I buy a game in a bundle.

IF I really enjoy Battlefront, and I feel the game itself is complete, and the DLC is just Map packs and the like... maybe I will buy them.  But more likly then not, I will buy the main game, and never make another purchase.

Microtransactions only work if people buy them, and well.. people buy them.  SWTOR originally, was a pretty good game, when it was a pay to play.  A tad simple, but I thought it had well done Voice Acting, a somewhat engaging story, and solid (if albit reused), gameplay.  I couldn't play anymore, so I left my account inactive, and it went FTP.  I played it for a grand total of an hour after it went FTP, and then uninstalled it.  I lost access to half my weapons, part of my crew, and my founder title.  This happens with most MMO's sadly.  WoW I think hasn't fallen into this pit yet... but most FTP MMO's are pay to win, with paywalls and the like.  ONly game it really didn't bother me in (at first), was DDO, because I started that game when it was FTP, and other then some quests and the like being cut off, and a few race/class options, the game was still solid and loads of fun to play.  It wasn't till I got to about level 12, and I was running out of quests to do for exp, that it started to drag...

I am now ranting, so sorry.  We will see how it goes... unless someone already has it, since I won't get mine till Friday.  Hopefully, it will be a fun time for a few months, before Pro's and hackers start ruining the fun.  I still wish MAG servers were still up...

Re: Out of Character Discussion

I preordered Battlefront after the beta, I was very enamored with it. Of course, I had not realized how frigging, absurdly good Fallout 4 would be. Damn, that game is almost every dream come true for me! 84 hours played so far (I took the week of its release off). I had 532 hours played on Skyrim so I shouldn't be surprised, really. Bethesda just makes my kind of game. :)

Re: Out of Character Discussion

I agree, Fallout 4 has been everything I wanted and more! As a rule I tend not to pre-order games, even if I'm excited for them, but given that thus far Bethesda has never disappointed me, as soon as FO4's pre-orders opened, I got mine in. Snagged a nice 23% discount on GMG too, which was nice. I'm 60 hours in and have loved every minute of it, and as I approach the conclusion of the main story, I'm already excited for my second playthrough and all the things I can do differently, from the first time around!

Also probably going to pre-order the season pass, come next month. Can't wait for the DLC to start dropping! I'm sure it'll add hundreds of hours to the game, added on top of the hours all the mods will bring.

Also what a strange name, 'cheetos'. Over here we call them "juustonaksut", which (more or less) literally means "cheese snacks".

Re: Out of Character Discussion

The 'brand' for snacks here would be the company which makes them, Taffel. However they make everything from chips (with all hundred of the bloody flavors) and 'cheetos', to salted nuts, pretzels, popcorn and a few others; So you couldn't really say you were going to "get some Taffel", since that could mean any one of their products. There are of course other brands, but Taffel is the most popular and I think everyone here knows who they are, expecially since they're a home brand. Foreign equivalents are around too, but somewhat less popular, except for Pringles.

I have had Lay's chips once though, and they were ridiculous. Small, thin and over half of the bag was filled with air! Taste wasn't anything to write home about either, but then they were just some plain chips.
