Hobbie nodded and made some marks on his checklist. "Yaus you and Karim will be paired in a Y-wing everyone else will get their ship. Go ahead and grab a sim-pod and lets se what you guys can do as a group."

Merkillum nodded to Hobbie, and went to a sim pod, starting to get in, before stopping.  "Lt, who's going to be in command during the simulation?  Are you joining us, or is it going to be a team building exercise?"

Re: Day One: Training
Merkillum nodded lightly, before looking to the others.  "Do we want to decide that now?  Or do you want to sort it all out in the simulation?  I figure their needs to be a squadron leader, at least for the simulation.  Any volunteers or nominations?"

Re: Day One: Training
Karim knew he wouldn't be in command. Part of his agreement to defect prohibited from serving as squadron commander or XO until his probation was lifted by Starfighter Command. He nodded to Yaus and headed toward the extra-large, two-seat sim. Strange to have a Caamasi in a fighter squadron. I thought they were strict pacifists.

Re: Day One: Training
The idea of leading a fighting force doesn't even occur to Yaus. If it is strange to see a Caamasi in a fighter squadron, then no one finds it more strange than the Caamasi himself.

In the wake of what happened to Alderaan. To Ylenic It'Kla, to all his brothers and sisters. To Caamas. Yaus had felt...compelled, somehow. To seek out the Rebels. To offer the skills he had honed as a pilot. To...fight against the Empire.

"We can always try different people as leader and see how it works out. Since I am sure we all have different levels of experience and thoughts on how the squadron should run."

Arak walked into the sim room behind the others.  "Also, I plan to take an X-Wing."

"I haven't had a chance to fly actual combat, yet," Doru admits, "so I'm not the best person to lead a squadron. Especially if we're still getting to know each other."

No sense in false confidence. Mom always said that was the fastest way to get shot down.

Re: Day One: Training
Merkillum looked as the others made their suggestions, and shrugged.  "Well, having fought some of these crafts before, I would have an idea of their capabilities.  I can give us the first go, if you all want.  Would also know TIE fighter attacks and patterns.  But, I wasn't a commander of my wing.  I just flew."

Re: Day One: Training
Having settled in the back seat in the two seated trainer Karim's eyes narrowed as he placed the helmet on his head. I thought we'd defected around the same time. I wonder what he did to bypass the command stipulation.

Refocusing on the computers in front of him, Karim began to warm up the systems in the sim, selecting weapon loadouts and programming in his preferred default settings.

Re: Day One: Training
The Caamasi is already sitting in the forward chair of the Y-Wing sim when Karim arrives, head bowed, hands clasped as if in prayer.

He sits up quickly, hearing the gunner take his seat. "It's my honour to be flying with you. I am Yaus," he declares. The words sound rehearsed.

Karim nods at Yaus as he boots the targetting computer, "Karim, let's show them how this is done, eh?"

Hitting a few more buttons, "I've got the forward cannons linked, and set to a convergence at medium distance off the bow. Torpedo targetting is in the green, and the ion cannons are looking good to."

Re: Day One: Training
Merkillum looked at the others, and then climbed into the simulator.  He looked at a strange dash from what he was used to.  This must be the cockpit of the A-Wing.  He put on his helmet, and flipped some switches, trying to figure out the controls.

Over the Com.  "Alright, all units report in.  Once we have our mission, will send out a flight arrangement."

Re: Day One: Training
"Sounds good to me," Doru said. He slid into the sim pod seat and started familiarizing himself with the layout. He pretended as if he were actually making a full flight, going the mental pre-flight checklist his mother had hammered into him ever since he told her about his dream of following the family tradition of piloting. As always, he finished up by reminding himself of his father's sage advice: don't forget to fly.

"All systems go," he said once he finished his checklist.

Wow, the rumors were true. The layout is pretty similar to the T-16...

Arak watched the others get situated, and made his way over to a simulator.  Sitting inside, he checked over the controls and displays while adjusting his headset.  "Zenerin fired up and ready."

Re: Day One: Training
Hobbie typed in a few commands "Alright sequence beginning now."

The interior of the pods darkened and suddenly you all were in open space. two unarmored transports were near you and they were sending over a message of enemies headed their way.

Re: Day One: Training
Merkillum seemed to be the only one that opted for leadership, so he went for it.  Seems their mission was escort, and enemies were on their way.

"Alright.  Enemies inbound.  Crix, since we ar ethe fastest, you be my wing man and we will harrass the enemy incoming.  Doru and Arak, escort the Y-Wing to the Transports, then protect their flanks.  Y-Wing, what payload do you have?  Torpedo's, Bombs?  Give me an idea of your combat capabilities."

He started to fly off towards the Transports, as he awaited the info.  Protecting the convoy was the first priority.  Time to see what these ships could do.
