Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

"I agree with Aldridge's assessment. It looks like the villagers are not eager to comply with the skull's desire to attack us, but we must tread carefully to keep it that way. And, uh, much as I hate to add to our list of complications, I could sure use some of that antitoxin."

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Westra hands an antitoxin to Alwanzatar. "Good luck to you, sorcerer."

To Ethic, she says, "We disturbed it when we went after some supplies Flutterwing had left behind. It chased us a long way and we thought we had lost it. Then, it attacked the camp."

"You think the skull understands river-tongue?" she then wonders aloud to the group.

"Unlikely, unless it had known it it in its past life in addition to Blood Tongue," Aldridge answers. "If you're thinking of reasoning with it, let me disabuse you of that notion."

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

The flameskull decides to step in where his village has failed. Howling what can only be a continuous stream of epithets at the party, it attacks.

A familiar bolt of fire winds its way toward Aldridge. (9 fire damage)

(The party is now in combat. The villagers can act after you, but do not currently appear inclined to take any action. The skull's actions clearly disturb them, however. The skull is 10' from the ground, near the bear. It is the party's turn.)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

With the Terrorclaw injured and the skull too high in the air to attack, Ryudo continues helping the injured, hoping the healthier Terrorclaws will decide we are more worth helping than the flying skull.  Pointing to the medicine, he gestures for the other Terrorclaw to come help the injured.

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Alwanzatar sighs loudly and lobs a sling stone at the skull. "It resists magical effects, as well as puncture wounds, lightning, and necromancy. Cold, fire, poison, charms, fright, and paralysis are altogether useless against it. Father always told me I should spend more time with proper weapons..." (24 vs AC, 7 damage)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Aldridge shrugs off the attack. "Sure, I probably deserved that. But not from you!" Aldridge cracks his neck, shrugs his shoulders, and scowls at the monster as he sings at it in overtone (Dissonant Whispers, 11 psychic damage, 13 DC vs. Wisdom. On fail, must immediately use its reaction to move away. On success, half damage and no fear.). He stands in defiance in his current position.

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Westra uses another dose of antitoxin to stabilize Durz. "I'd be interested in a retreat soon," she says as she works. "Does anyone have a spell that removes a curse or dispels magic? Or maybe some holy water? Is anyone secretly a cleric? If we do fight it, we'll need something like that to keep it from coming back if we kill it."

Airdsgainne looks up from playing medic and utters a curse. He grasps his hand toward the skull, and yellow threads lash around it, pulling it to the earth. (Earthbind, str check or it starts falling)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

The skull plummets to the ground at Ethic's feet under the influence of Airdsgainne's spell. It resists most of Aldridge's spell, but not not the force of Flutterwing's catapult. It is nearly falling apart, but still has a few shots. It fires at the nearest target: Ethic.

Two point blank rays strike him straight in the chest. (11, 5 fire damage; halved due to rage)

From seemingly nowhere, an enormous flamestone she-bear appears beside the fallen bear. It's easily twenty feet at the shoulders. It completely ignores the village below, as though it were beneath noticing. In one swift movement, it lifts the body of the dying bear onto it's back and begins to walk slowly and purposefully away.

(The party is still in combat with the flameskull. It is not necessarily in combat with the enormous she-bear, unless it really, really wants to be.)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

The villagers stand silent as the skull falls. Varthurg looks around for a moment, then cheers. The villagers don't join him, but a few smiles slip quietly around the camp.

The smiles fade quickly as they turn back to their fallen. They seem lost with the healer lying on the ground among the dying.

(The party is out of combat. You can take up to a minute of actions at a time now. Rescue breathing requires a DC 11 medicine check. You can only perform it on one person at a time.)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

"Hey, Westra, there's another bear you can fight, why don't you go chase after THAT one?" Aldridge shouts as everyone else is succumbed to shock.

He is still uneasy about the skull. "We have one hour to make sure it does not return." He turns to the cleric-sorcerer. "Flutterwing, do you have some holy water we can use? Failing that, can you dispel its essence somehow?"

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Westra gestures rudely in Aldridge's direction, then uses the remaining five antitoxin in her possession to stabilize Bor, Ugak, Ghak, Zahgorim, and Dul. "Can anyone else do anything?" she asks, desperately. "We still have at least a dozen that won't make it soon."

Spotting Vlog, she casts Cure Wounds to stop his bleeding (+9),

"We don't have an hour," Aldridge says through his teeth. "I mean, I suppose it can't cost anything to start the process, though we'll have to take it out again before we can use it. Go ahead and start the ritual, we'll just have to prepare ourselves and the village until we come up with a better option."

"Westra, can you see if they have a cleric who can dispel the town's poison, and the skull's magic?"

"If any of the druids wake up, I can talk to them, but I don't think I'll have much luck otherwise," Westra says, beginning forced breathing on Gluronk, who is visibly pregnant.

Still she tries shouting to the village, "Anyone around here a cleric besides our Bear friend over here?"
