Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Airdsgainne looks up at the sky. “Those clouds are awful dark. I'd better find some cover before I wind up caught in a snowstorm,” he says to no one in particular. His eyes alight on a cave a about a half-mile away, across the shallow valley. “That will do.”

Alwanzatar and Westra shiver as a cold wind starts to pick up. Turiya, Alwanzatar's drake, joins them in grunting his displeasure. “We're about to see a fair bit of snow, we'd better find shelter,” Westra says. Alwanzatar squints through the cloud-borne afternoon twilight. “I see a cave not too far from here,” he says.

Aldridge and Saphira, his tireless drake, pause as the thunder echoes across the quiet valley. Saphira hisses politely at the sky, as though to say, “Isn't it cold enough already?” Aldridge looks around for a place to camp out of the coming storm. A cave nearby looks safe enough.

Ryudo rests quietly in a cave, the sharp storm air is clean and fresh against the damp cave smell. “You're a pile of fat ones,” Ryudo says to the three wild yams in his hands. “I'll have to head back down after the storm and see if you've got any friends down there.” Ryudo starts looking around the cave for enough wood for a small fire.

And so it comes to pass that five exceptional Wanderers are huddled together around a small fire in the mouth of a cave, sharing a trio of yams.

(This would be a good time to introduce yourself, where you come from, where you are headed, what motivates you or anything else you wish to share. You should also describe yourself, what visible gear you're wearing and any unique traits that people might take note of.)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Noticing the Monkey clan members approaching, Ryudo greets them warmly in River-tongue.  "Welcome all, come join me.  I was just looking to keep myself warm, but company is always welcome!"  He offers his yams to the other Wanderers.

Ryudo doesn't look like much.  A young Ostrich clan member, tall and lanky.  He's dressed in simple clothes and leans on his quarterstaff, even though he clearly doesn't need to.

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Aldridge returns the greeting to Ryudo, "[Language unknown: Essithoun tr tiessa, ckol. U newius linan Ck thuck itolut po mapl ouncsi e ivle ta, a unneck neusol pre ousndecom hasthuman.]"

Saphira lets out a curious purr, alerting the bard to the two druids behind him. "[Language unknown: Pepo, man, arno sanna ev ta rutev ur nach thetioted ietr ro ha]," Aldridge reassures the drake. Aldridge studies the present company. His hope for business is low based on their humble garb, but at least the company is a welcome change.

A decided mountain Monkey, Aldridge's thick brown beard provides just as much protection for his face as the furs he travels in. His drum sits atop of his noble pack animal. Just like the rest of his personal possessions, it is notably well-used, and notably well-cared for.

"[Language unknown: Pa, enei,]" he says to the room as he rummages through Saphira's saddlebags, "[Language unknown: unisat ssacdi be ng chhiul plpro?]"

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Alwanzatar dismounts Turiya, then draws a finger across the polished malachite stone bound tightly to his right wrist. He wears warm furs, cut to allow an unimpeded stride. A handful of daggers and a sling with stones are visible on his belt pouch, but from their condition, they do not appear to have seen much use. [Language unknown: "Iouthetradin, chilno. Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Westra offers a general greeting to the cave in River-tongue and accepts a yam from Ryudo. "[Language unknown: Hiitek liles sa pe tra pr manred-tineen. Ck ho ntion p i foroetle especa arepl urete n blepo, noine reswa it ithanddin dayun ur wiil, t Allameant pl ilers aiear.]"

Westra is a bit on the small side for a human, though her scale mail armor gives her some bulk. She carries a curious wooden staff in one hand and a shield slung over her shoulder. The others can also see that she has various pouches stored in and around her person, since she has no pack nor beast of burden to carry things for her.

Her black hair is swept up in a messy top-knot to keep it out of her pale face. As she cautiously scans the group of men in the cave, her eyes fall on Airdsgainne. "[Language unknown: Romvirard,]" she says to him, "[Language unknown: Na sipe taunwa onsredverlarnte, To p teryinset m ecrom e.]"

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

A short, warmly dressed figure sits at the far edge of the fire, appearing to either like cold or dislike company. He introduces himself as Airdsgainne, but otherwise says curiously little for a gnome.

However, he accepts half a yam, offering in return a half smile and a strange blue fruit not seen in these parts.

"[Language unknown: Venan no hat o caev'peni, hillpl]," he replies to the fellow Druid.

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

While the rest of the group exchange salutations, Aldridge adds a couple larger logs to the pit, humming an old tune he learned from the Raccoon clan as he works. Saphira eyes the flames expectantly, edging ever closer to the fire.

"Ah ah ah ah!" he turns to the drake. "[Language unknown: Arbeec osun plnoteel vorerehisoer t rowas minaos be itart usiou, ateon me oul ieth o e! Poul ustin anweha m er terovesan earseters as aineautra, rut whestiher day osaica me pawe pa redectnte ai trdi anytersta ithverbut whon neri noeksa.]"

The drake hisses but obeys the warning, giving enough berth for the rest of the party to huddle around the fire. Aldridge smiles and shakes his head. "[Language unknown: Utenil ilres icace ce set ec. Forlatpro thu k etelro ngivha iv linoerica allanadi n urni itnt diutme ll al traeraset nd.]" He lays down on the side of the drake as a pillow, looking around the room at his companions. "[Language unknown: Ons, Wa Reasomivebut, ticta pral il Ounonsset. Et hases omprne u onetedconund il ntntpa hire ouven nc ith hatsonany sano, hou ti ourstrich ndev sedi encectven ngofle beulel esnt'nepo o ngbencniof.]" He takes the drum down from the drake and begins to play a soft, soothing beat for the benefit of the cave. Saphira closes her eyes, purring with satisfaction.

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Saphira eyes the flames ever more insistently, becoming agitated even. Turiya rests lazily behind his master, unconcerned. Saphira hisses at Aldridge, clearly upset.

Just then, a light yellow beast blasts out of the darkness like a bolt of lightning. The lightning tears into Airdsgainne's side, taking large chunks of his abdomen with it. The beast pauses for a moment and the party can make out its shape. It's a large muscular cat with long pointed teeth.

The beast tosses the unconscious Rabbit on the floor. His breathing is shallow and the dim light reflects off the widening pool of blood. (Airdsgainne is a 0 hp and dying. He is not dead, though his condition appears to warrant medical assistance in the near term.)

(The party is now in combat. It is your turn and you may go in any order. Except Airdsgainne, of course. There is a map; see the Table Talk thread for a link.)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

In a flash, Ryudo moves to the cat and strikes it over it's back with his quarterstaff (attack :19; damage: 4).  As soon as the attack lands, he follows it up with a kick to the cat's stomach (attack: 15; damage: 4).

The veins of green on Alwanzatar's malachite crystal burn with a fiery orange light as he conjures a Fire Bolt directed at the cat. (24 vs. AC, 5 fire damage)

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

Saphira growls at the inhabitant. "Saphira, [Language unknown: ughredund al omate!]" Aldridge barks. The drake doesn't need a second order, quickly putting herself on the opposite side of the fire from the creature. Aldridge hums a short tune directed at Ryudo to bolster the monk (Bardic Inspiration, d6)

Aldridge takes a few steps back from the beast, as well. "[Language unknown: Mi of lesec wh sti ssut toussipl ardaveany inticaine ulic'ecas,]" he mutters to himself as he sets an arrow to string. He looses it at the ferocious feline (attack: 23, damage: 5).

Re: Chapter 1: Greetings and Salutations

The wanderers snap into action at the sight of the beast! A firebolt singes its face. An arrow catches it in the side. And Ryudo captures the cat's attention with a pair of solid strikes to its upper torso.

Quietly, Airdsgainnes' wounds close and his eyes open. He looks up at the teeth looming over him.

Its claw slashes through the air, taking a neat slice out of Ryudo's arm. (6 damage)

(Party's turn again. Everybody is up for this one.)
