"Don't you understand, your mother will have Sileas arrested, or kill her, ,if you go after her. She doesn't want you near her. Why would you put Sileas in danger?"

Yehudit stamped her good foot.

"I'm old enough to decide who I can and can't be around!" Yehudit shouted. "If I want to go to Portside with Sileas I will!"

"Don't shout at me, young lady. Your mother is the one who made up the rule. You need to discuss it with her," Brie pointed out. "I'm just trying to protect my daughter."

"Like hell you will!" Liadan shouted back. "You are staying right here at the keep where it's safe! And stop mouthing off!"

"I am going with Sileas!" Yehudit deliberately walked to the door.

Brie put her palm over her eyes.

Questa had snagged Sileas's bow and arrows when Yehudit and her crazy mother had started yelling at each other. Questa leaned against a wall to enjoy the show. She did not want Yehudit to go with them to Portside, she would only slow them down, but Questa was curious how it would play out.

Liadan stood up and tugged on Aron's arm. "Aron, you were complaining that you never get to parent Yehudit- how about not having me be the only bad guy for a change?"

"They won't try anything with your brother around." Lek said.

Millie was skeptical. "I don't know..."

Aron was pale and laying very still.

"I'll protect you." Lek said determinedly.

Liadan swore. "Yehudit, you're grounded."

Yehudit left the room and went looking for Sileas.

Liadan stormed back into the room. "Damnit Brie, she's taken Yehudit."

Brie sighed. "It's more like Yehudit invited herself and refused to be left behind."

"Why doesn't Sileas stay here where it's safer? Why does she have such a death wish?" Liadan demanded angrily. "Tabor is out there!"

"She doesn't have a death wish. She's protective and wants to feel like she's contributing to something." Brie sighed. "It's where her strengths lie, although I admittedly wish she would stay here where it's safe. I wish she could learn the things needed to run a home."

Liadan bristled. She had never learned how to run a home. The inn's kitchen staff fed her family, and Aron took care of most of the domestic stuff.

"Well, Sileas can't run a home because if she was doing that she wouldn't be able to fight bad people." Liadan snapped.

Brie stared at Lia for a moment. "That's true, she couldn't. But you don't want her doing that anyway, so what does it matter?"

"What?! Every woman needs to be able to defend herself!" Liadan said. "I just don't like her hunting for trouble and taking Yehudit along with her."

"When has Sileas ever went out and searched for trouble? I don't know of any time Sileas woke up and said "Let me see what sort of trouble I can find today." These are hard times, she just happens upon it."

"My other children are good about keeping out of trouble. But Yehudit keeps getting into dangerous situations because she hangs around Sileas all the time." Liadan said. "She doesn't just happen upon it, she's looking for it."

"No, she doesn't. Every time, she's heard a call for help or happened upon a situation."
