Knowledge of Labrysian History

This information was provided by Rebel diplomats.

Labrysia developed and until recently was made up of numerous independent
and mostly democratic nations. You do not know a lot of history, but you
know the great war, known as 'the cleansing' by the followers of the
'Golden Orb' (referred to as the 'sunstruck' by those who did not like
them), began about 50 years ago. The 'Shining Path' began immigrating to
particular non-believing nations in their millions, objecting on the
basis of religious discrimination if any nation tried to stop them,
and they soon becoming the majority there. Once the majority,
they simply voted to change the constitution to a strict religious one,
then began immigrating to the next nation. Some nations closed their
borders, but many were caught in a logical quandary. Not wanting to admit
the need to discriminate, many of the nations became religious puppets,
controlled by the shining church. Then about 50 years ago, the church
declared a holy war on the remaining nations. The first strike was a mass
of nuclear destruction, killing millions apparently without warning or
provocation. Then the armies started rolling in to finish the job.

Some nations had seen this coming, and prepared by establishing a couple
of off-world colonies, but when the war started, those who did not join
together in opposition were soon assimilated or annihilated. Even still,
opposition on Labrysia lasted only 4 years.

But space proved more difficult. The massive armies could not so easily
be mobilized through space. Ships were needed, and all who wanted to escape
the 'enlightenment' had left the planet to build defences there. The
'shining path' was not equipped for space conquest, so it was several
decades before they could turn their massive production capacity into a
viable space fleet. When they finally did, though, their first conquest was
the silicon rich mines of Hibernia. Silicon was rare on Labrysia, and hence
computer development very slow. The fight for Hibernia lasted longer than
the fight for Labrysia. Ultimately, it was lost despite numerous rebel
victories because the rebels simply could not afford the losses, whilst
the 'shining path' could. Much more recently, a research colony on Dirac
was lost too, and the 'shining path' would have kept rolling now it finally
had the momentum, but fate had another hand to play for the rebels. The
massive fleet, split to strike the rebels from two sides, had one side
wiped out by the appearance of Terrans!

Though small in number, the Terrans enjoyed a technological advantage. But
even greater was their advantage in using the technology against advanced
races. Having fought the Vilani, they were much more skilled in space combat,
and having developed missile technology they were able to launch nuclear
warheads with much greater devastation and range than the Labrysian plasma
weapons. The religious zealots made the mistake of assuming they could wipe
out all in their path, but after a series of heavy losses, they were for the
first time vulnerable to attack. Not accustomed to defence, the combined fleets
of Terrans and the rebel Labrysians were able to take the war back to Labrysia,
capturing all lost colonies. The battle for the home planet against religious
zealots was more than either the rebels or the Terrans could handle, so after a
brief bombardment, the religious groups agreed to peace, allowing those who
wanted to leave to do so, in exchange for being given control of their home system.

Known Vilani Forces

Gashidda is believed to be the nearest Base to Saris, though Kidashi is the largest. Forces attacking Yenisei could come from either, or both, but Gashidda is also the main base for forces patrolling the Sirius-Procyon link. Numbers are, of course, approximate...Vilani are not so kind as to volunteer accurate information or even tours of their base!

Note that with Battalions, Shigniid Dir Ugkin are generally 'prisoners' or other 'undesirables' and operate their own spacecraft, usually armed merchant vessels such as Sharurshid passenger liners, Hero class freighters or Gashidda class patrol cruisers. Other Battallions rely on the Vilani Naval assets to move around.

At Dingir, Kushuggi Sector Headquarters

Gashidda Patrol Cruisers          x 300 (Rarely more than half at base, usually out patrolling)
Sharrukin Fleet Tankers           x 4
Sharurshid Line Freighters, armed x 5

5,000 Medium Imperial Tanks
5,000 Armoured Cars
20 Batallions (1 Answerin, 1 Geonee, 5 Shigniid Dir Ugkin)

A Vilani Battalion consists of 1200 troops + support

At Apishlun

Known Terran Fleet

Despite recent losses, the Terran fleet is still large and dangerous. Apart from mercenary units or the converted units captured from the Labrysian civil war and Imperial altercations, the known major fleet units on Jan 2177 can be summarized as follows:

Revenge Class Dreadnought, 46.6 B Solars, 30,000 dTon Cylinder [2]
Designed to replace both the Kiev and Nimitz classes this new design is a bold and fast vessel intended to outrun fighters if outnumbered.
2 Based at Terra, new builds

Kiev Class Dreadnought $40.1 B, 25,000 dTon Cylinder [2]
An experiment in building the biggest warship they could pushed by the Russian government, these monsters are nonetheless dangerous to any that get near them, but so expensive only 2 were ever built, one barely surviving at Procyon, just making it to a jump point with heavy damage thanks only to it's extreme armour.
2 Based at Procyon

Hive Class Battleship $20.3 B, 15,000 dTon Cylinder [2]
By contrast to some of the smaller designs, the Hive class battleship is a well rounded design. Extremely heavily armoured, it is fast and it's three Heavy Particle Cannon pack a respectable punch, whilst the 20 fighter bays provide excellent versatility, offering point defence or attack according to the loadout. Though there were 2 at Procyon, they managed to escape. 2 were lost at Nusku.
2 Based at Terra

Britain Class Carrier, 14.5 B Solars, 15,000 dTon Cylinder [3]
Warships come and go, but this class seems to stick around forever. The high crew sizes and the cost of fighters make them expensive to maintain, however. With 250 fighters, they can be extremely dangerous. Most modern fighters have a Beam weapon and up to two missiles. The two based at Procyon managed to escape, but lost all their fighters.
3 at Procyon

Bush Class Battle Cruiser 15 B, 11,000 dTon Cylinder [4]
These Heavy Cruisers have enough armour and weapons to pose a threat to any Vilani fleet. With 50 embarked fighters and a number of other small vessels, plus 500 troops, they are among the most useful of Terra's fleet. 5 were destroyed at Procyon in rearguard action that allowed many others, including the Kiev, to get away. 6 were lost at Nusku.
4 Based at Procyon

Cannonball Cruiser, 13.5 B Solars, 10,000 dTon Sphere (78 yard dia.) [1]
This new design by Kalishnkov for the AK Ball Cruiser was renamed, and is based on the highly successful cruiser design that played a crucial role in destroying the fleet that captured Nusku. This one, however, has food production that can stretch endurance considerably, as well as extra point defence weapons.
1 Based at Terra, New Build

Landing Dock, 7.3 B Solars, 10,000 dTon Sphere (78 yard dia.) [3]
These are designed to bring three battalions to a hostile system to take over. They have moderate armour, but are not designed to land themselves. Or to get too close to the planet...
3 Based at Terra, New Builds

Vladivostok Class Cruiser 8.6 B, 6000 dTon Cylinder [14]
These cruisers are probably the most common Terran heavy warship due to their good combination of high speed, heavy armour and respectable firepower. Their large fighter complement makes them excellent pirate hunters, allowing them to fill the role as light carriers as well. There were only 4 at Procyon, and they managed to escape, though some took hits. All 4 at Nusku were lost.
5 Based at Terra
5 Based at Procyon
1 Based at Hephaistos
1 Based at Inferno
1 Based at Lagash
1 Based at Prometheus

Merrimak Class Cruiser, 8.3 B, 5000 dTon Sphere [4]
This interesting proposal was made in the light of the heavy armoured cruisers (secretly of Terran design) fielded by Kimashargur during a recent civil war. These are slightly smaller but cheaper, and are intended to fill the role of a medium cruiser, but are considered expensive.
2 Based at Terra
2 Based at Procyon, New Builds
1 Based at Chrysolite, New Build

Iishuni Class Cruiser, 8.2 B Solars, 5000 dTon Sphere, 62 yd dia [1]
Adopted by the Russian Government, this design only started construction after news of the Girii conflict arrived.
1 at Procyon, New Build
1 under construction at Terra

Alert Class Cruiser, 4.7 B Solars, 4000 dTons [11]
The cruisers are the more mobile elements of Terran fleet, regularly monitoring key border positions in pairs. In wartime, they are escorts for major assets. There were 6 at Procyon, 3 of which managed to escape and 2 more destroyed in Sirius as the Vilani fleet came through. Nearly half were lost at Nusku, and the rest have been upgraded.
5 Based at Procyon
2 Based at Hephaistos
2 Based at Inferno
2 Based at Ys

Musician Class Auxillary Cruiser, 3.8 B Solars, 3,000 dTon Cylinder [2]
More of a heavy raider than a front line warship, the musician class was named in the hope of lifting peoples spirits during the 4th Interstellar War. It has fuel for 3 parsec in hyperspace and can outpace fighters. With 100 troops, accommodation is tight, but the moderate armour and the Heavy Particle Cannon give it respectable firepower. It is designed to kill up to 3 Kargash class cruisers easily, keeping it's distance and using fighters to assist in the point defence. It is intended to full the secondary role of the Alert class, freeing them up for front lines.
1 Based at Ys, New Build
1 Based at Chrysolite

Monitor Class Gunboat 3.5 B Solars, 2000 dTon Cylinder [6]
Heavy and slow, these are not intended to work with fleets but rather in their absence. Armour capable of delflecting missiles, there are only a few Vilani warships that are of concern to it, other than those armed with nuclear weapons. Of the ships the Vilani have feilded, only the Kidashi and the Durim have Heavy Particle Cannon, and only the Deraanasa has a spinal weapon, and even they would need to take a good aimed shot. Boarding action is the only real threat to this, but with the speed, most simply run away, so it is ideal for defending planets, it's anticipated role.
3 at Procyon
1 at Agidda, New Build
1 at Chrysolite
1 at Yenesei, New Build

Mandella Class Destroyer, 2.9 B Solars, 2000 dTons [26]
The destroyers are hunters of incursions. Their heavy particle cannon allows them to hit hard, and thier beam banks are excellent point defence. 10 were lost at Procyon escorting the 5 Bush class in their reargaurd action, and 20 had the inglorious honour of being the first losses in the third raid at Nusku.
18 Based at Procyon
2 Based at Hephaistos
2 Based at Inferno
2 Based at Lagash
2 Based at Prometheus

Shield II Class Escort, 3.1 B Solars, 2000 dTon Sphere [20]
These vessels are dedicated escorts designed to provide point defence for other vessels. After half or the original ones were lost at Nusku, destroying the massive fighter swarms, the other half were converted to the newer design, their old function of fighter killers taken by the smaller Buckler class.
10 Based at Procyon
10 Based at Terra

Buckler Class Escort, 1.7 B Solars, 1,100 dTon Cylinder [30]
In an effort to cut costs and reduce fighter losses, this small design was recently proposed. It carries the same number of beams as the original Shield class, but no fighters and 41% of the crew, it costs only 55% of the price. Based off a stretched Agrippa hull, it has potential to be much more numerous, and it's armour is still thick enough top present significant problems to any light turret weapons. It is excellent as a hunter of fighters, and is small enough that smaller colonies can build it.
25 Based at Terra
5 Based at Chrysolite, New Build

Agrippa Corvette, 1.5 B Solars, 1000 dTons Needle/Wedge [38]
Patrol craft for low intensity theatres, the Corvettes are fairly numerous and quite capable escorts.
10 Based at Terra
10 Based at Procyon
2 Based at Hephaistos
2 Based at Inferno
4 Based at Lagash
4 Based at Ys
4 Based at Prometheus
2 Based at Alizarin

Hardrada Raider, 700 M Solars, 800 dTons [20]
The commerce raiders can carry a lot of troops behind enemy lines for commando raids on key installations. They are a relatively recent design. Their locations are kept secret.

Constable Class Customs boat , 917 M Solars, 600 dTon Needle/Wedge [100]
The Terrans answer to the Gashidda class is 50% larger and twice as expensive. But then, the Terrans do not have as many planets to guard. Twenty of these fled Procyon when it was attacked. There are at least two attached to all the Terran colonies within contact of Terra, but the design was too new to pass through Vilani space unmolested. In addition, 20 are based at Lagash, and 20 based back at Procyon.

Crocket Class Scout, 140 M Solars, 100 dTons [200+?]
Small scouts designed to counter the Iken scouts, they are more capable in combat, but not as versatile. Not considered combatant ships, many of these fled Procyon at the first sight of the Vilani fleet to inform the rest of Terran forces. One also fled Sirius to warn Procyon, giving them a few hours warning at least, though it was destroyed as it refueled.

Main Fleets

This force recently moved up to Nusku to siege the planet to retake it.

The Fourth Interstellar War (A.D. 2173-2176)

When Sharik Yangila closed the Imperial border in 2170, she doubtless knew in advance that not all Terrans would conform to the new policy. After her repeated demands that the Terran Confederation control smuggling came to nothing, she declared that the Terrans had provided casus belli and opened hostilities.

The Procyon Raid

The Fourth Interstellar War began in 2173, with a massive raid against the Terran colony on Procyon. The Terran naval station and shipyard there were destroyed in the first assault, and a brief bombardment of the colony made a shambles of the planetary defense. The colonists prepared for a last-ditch defense, but to their surprise the Imperial forces simply withdrew to their own space once again.

Terran strategists soon realize that the raid was a very bold opening move. Procyon was the gateway to a whole cluster of Terran industrial colonies and outposts, in the so-called “Outback” region. With the naval station destroyed, this flank of Terran space was suddenly at risk, and a significant portion of the Navy had to be diverted to shoring up its defenses. At very little cost, the Terran Navy’s offensive capability had been gravely reduced.

1st Raid of Nusku

This raid really caught the Terrans by surprise. Rather than closing to attack, a wave of missiles was launched that barely overcame the point defence, and only a few older vessels were destroyed, and a number of heavier vessels damaged. This exposed the weakness of having slower vessels in the fleet, forcing the fleet to either split or go too slow to bring the guns to bear before the enemy escaped. This resulted in the loss of three Carriers and some smaller vessels.

2nd Raid of Nusku

Terran Forces launch as does Vilani all cluster together for PD. Vilani remain at jump to refuel, Terrans move to attack. Vilani launch at 200,000 m, and begin running. Closure of 30,000 m per rnd, 2 rnds travel + launch for first salvo, so 110,000 m. 1 rnd travel + launch for second, so 50,000 m. Vilani fleet finishes refueling, separate from Tankers.

Terran fleet splits to try to inflict damage. Slow vessels (Alert) finish off the Tankers. Fighters engage each other as Vilani launch another salvo and attempt to enter hyperspace. Urima vessels stay back to fight for the others to jump, destroy fighters causing serious damage while the splitting of the forces allows some missiles through to hit the Mandella and Agrippa class, the foremost Terran vessels.

3rd Raid of Nusku

The higher speed of the upgraded Terran fleet immediately shows, as the fighters launch and they form up as the Vilani arrive. Vilani are in no hurry, and form a large but tight formation that vastly outnumbers the Terrans, and the first wave of missiles is truly spectacular: over 30,000 missiles form a deadly cloud, and the Terrans move out to meet them, shooting them down as the last few missiles bounce of the repulsor fields set up by the front line warships. The Vilani fleet slowly begins withdrawing, keeping the maximum distance from the Terrans, but the Terran fleet is faster, and closes  the range to just 150,000 miles by the time the second wave hits them. This time, the smaller Mandella class lacking repulsors, are targeted, and this time, the missiles strike home, taking out all 20 ships. But the Terran fleet continues to close, and reaches the range of the massive Heavy Spinal cannon in the Nimitz class. Once again, the smaller vessels are targeted, destroying the Shield class and the Agrippa class of corvettes, and a number of fighters. But it is too late for many of the fighters, as the Terran fighters accelerate ahead of the fleet to smash the Vilani fighter wing.

But the losses have been too great. The heavy Vilani gun cruisers, the Kidashi and Duriim, led by the massive Deraanasa class battle cruiser, are able to hold them off, at great cost to themselves, long enough for the massed missile swarms from the Kargash to finish the job. The plasmas from the same class smashed the remaining fighters, and the terran fleet, though fighting bravely and nearly getting a glorious victory, instead fell to a terrifying defeat at the face of the Vilani missile swarms.

Terran losses are the heaviest of the war

Nimitz class Dreadnought x1
Hive Class Battleship x2
Bush Class Battle Cruiser x6
Vladivostok Class Cruiser x4
Shield Class Destroyer Escort x15
Alert x12
Mandella x 20
Agrippa x 10
Fighters x 6,060 all combo, 5,000 of which were planet based.

The two Erasharshi Class Assault Carrier carriers, each with a battalion, waited until after the bombardment of the planet before landing forces. Still, they are met with strong resistance. However by the end of November 2176, the resistance has been crushed and the Vilani control the planet.

The Terran Confederation was not exactly idle during all of this, but its leaders discovered that the Empty Peace (and Yangila’s campaign of subversion) had sapped Terra’s ability to fight. Military budgets had been reduced, and military industries had been converted to civilian use. The citizens were not prepared for war, and indeed the Confederation had been snarled up in internal disputes for several years before the outbreak of hostilities. These problems were all correctable, but it took time before the Confederation could effectively mobilize for war. By then, Nusku had fallen and the Vilani were beginning to mount new probes at Procyon and into the Outback. Even if the Imperium launched no new major offensives, the Confederation faced a long and difficult war.

Faced with an impossible military situation, the Terrans tried diplomacy instead. Envoys met with saarpuhii Yangila at Dingir, literally begging for peace in very meek terms. Yangila was naturally delighted at this turn of events, thinking that she had done more than any other Vilani to humble the stiff-necked Terrans. She magnanimously agreed to a peace on 18 Jan 2176, on the condition that Terra respect the border controls and keep to its own space, ending the war.

The Girii Civil war 2177- 2179

Girii is a Kimashargur planet of 1 billion souls in the Magyar sector, and the capital of the subsector of the same name. Recently, they have been incorporating Terran ideas in an effort to improve their economy, and it has been working. New designs have been found to be useful, and new medicines have made them a lot of money, but also a lot of enemies. Chief amoung them is Lemrukiri, a planet with seven times the population.

In 2175, they began to explore some new Terran designed vessels to increase their military, as Lemrukiri began to impose trade sanctions against them in order to isolate them. Girii responded by asking Terran scouts to find ways around the economic blockade, as Lemrukiri controlled the traditional routes to Girii. Furious at being circumvented, Lemrukiri began to raid commercial vessels bound for Girii, making the blockade more than an economic one. Girii responded by exploring new worlds and withdrawing many folk from the worlds between them and Lemrukiri, and allowing several Terran companies to establish offices on Girii. They also secretly bought some new Terran designs for heavy warships unlike anything the Vilani had seen.

10 Apr 2177 Lemrukiri declared that Girii leadership was illegitimate and in breach of Ziru Sirka Policy by constructing a new design of vessel. 2 New Cruisers designed by Kalishnikov (Export Cruisers) and built at Iishuni in secret are attacked there by a Lemrukiri fleet of 1 Command Cruiser, 50 Kargash and 100 Shamshirs. Fortunately, the shipyards have just launched the second cruiser, and the two cruisers, together with the wing of 5,000 fighters, destroyed the fleet, with only 10 Kargash escaping!

Girii responded by supporting pirates acting against government of Shululsish, which was by now supporting Lemrukiri. Both sides sent a delegation to Vland to explain the hostilities, but it would be at least December 2177 before a response was received.

27th June 2177, 50 Shamshir and 50 Kargash attack Girii. 10 Merishmirr and 10 Fleet Tankers jumped to one of the Gas Giants 10 hours away to refuel. They were met by 20 Kargash, 20 Shamshirs and 1000 planet based AK Modular Combo fighters. Note that the small combo fighters are just $12 mill, versus $20 mill of Imperial fighters or $22 mil of the Terran ones. Hence, 1,000 could be built in much the same way as cars or G-Carriers! Heavy fighters, named the Seru class by Kalishnikov enterprises, were also constructed as escorts for warships, and Gashiddas were modified in large numbers from the baseline Imperial model. Ironically, all these smaller craft changes were not generally considered illegal by Vland, unlike the radical new designs of the new cruisers.

Over the following months large fleets of Gashiddas were fielded, supported by small numbers of capital ships, in order to blockade Girii. Seru, Ugemiriika, Arsha and Adigarma were the main centres for these fleets, but other systems, particularly Dashkimnir and Kasarshim were also targeted, with troops landed on the latter and holding it. Blockading Arsha was supposed to block Terran influence, but it seemed too little too late.

By the 27 of October, the tide began to turn. Mercenary pirates set out from Girii to attack the blockade fleets at Seru, then Arsha. Losses now mounting, Lemrukiri began to withdraw their forces to Lemrukiri, Udikaa and Garaanis, leaving a second force still blockading Seru and Arsha, but ready to flee in the face of a raiding force. Attempts to press the vessels at Lashgimaamrishuk into service were flatly refused after months of providing for the Lemrukiri forces with no compensation. Rather than risk adding worlds to Girii's cause, they withdrew from all the smaller worlds, demanding instead that Lashgimaamrishuk take responsibility for maintaining order of all the worlds rimward and spinward of Nagunishmure, Lashish, Gunmu and Khiruna, the last of which was used as a forward command base by Lemrukiri. Shululsish began to take charge of the war, with Lemrukiri forced to cede many economic privileges in order to secure their support.

A raid against forces at the forward blockade force in November 2177 by hired pirate forces showed the error of blockades. As all remaining forces were then withdrawn, only patrols plied the systems in between. In true Vilani style, Shululsish, who had loaned many vessels for the forward blockade, became concerned that their 'hammer' was not big enough. Using actions by the hired pirates as an excuse, they petitioned the Royal Court for assistance in crushing the 'inhumane and illegal Kimashagur rebellion'. Girii of course sent a counter delegation, but it was the Shululsish delegations that met with some success. Dingir, boasting of it's success against the Barbarian Terra forces, were ordered in April 2178 to send the cream of their fleet to assist Shululsish, despite claims they would be left vulnerable to counterattack by Terrans with whom they were currently at peace.

It is the 29 October 2178 before the enemy fleet finally arrives. The first group arrives at the Gas Giant nearest to the colony. Consisting of 5 Aasha class cruisers escorting 2 massive Erasharshi assault carriers, and flanked by 20 Sharrukin Fleet tankers and 140 Shamshirs, they begin launching their fighters immediately. But everyone knows this is just the side show. These are not front line fighters.

At Seru colony jump point to and from Amkun, the combined fleets of the Pirates and Girii are waiting, consisting of the following ships:

AK Export Cruiser        x 2
Vegan Class Light Carrier x 2
Kidashi Class Cruiser     x 3
Modified Aasha            x 1
Modified Merrishmer       x 2
Kargash Light Cruiser     x 50
Dissident Shamshirs       x 5
Urima Class Frigates      x 10
Pirate Gashiddas          x 10
Escort Gashiddas          x 104
Dissident Fighters        x 350
Seru Heavy Fighters       x 1,321, including many based on the planet.

when the following arrive out of hyperspace:

Deraanasa Battle Cruiser x1
Kidashi Class Cruiser     x 20
Vegan Class Light Carrier x 35
Merishmirr Cruiser        x 40
Kargash Light Cruiser     x 100
Urima Class Frigates      x 90

They promptly launch 6,400 fighters and approximately 25 thousand missiles, while the  the Giriian reception responds with 16 thousand missiles of their own, moving into position to attack as well. The Urima Frigates bore the brunt of that initial arrival, with 30 being crippled or destroyed on arrival. The Deraanasa led the Kidashi to form up first, covering the Kargash and the Vegan carriers. Of the massive cloud of 6,400 fighters, 600 were specifically point defence craft, while the rest unleashed a massive cloud of nearly 27,000 missiles. Whether some were nuclear is not known, because none ever reached their destination as the two heavy Export Cruisers took point and exchanged rounds with the the Heavy enemy cruiser fleet: two against 21. But it was not as unbalanced as it seemed: the armour of the Export cruisers seemed impenetrable as it exchanged rounds with the Shululsish flagship, taking some time to disable the the Spinal Cannon as well as the Heavy particle cannon of the Kidashi fleet, and using their speed to duck forward into beam range, picking off the thin skinned fighters with beams while they sniped at the bigger guns with the particle cannon, before ducking back into the protection of their own fleets point defences. Some missiles did get through the screen, but were unable to penetrate the armour.

Being covered by the high speed Urima class escorts, the Shululsish Kidashi exchanged fire for over 11 hours on the Export Cruisers without effect, but once the Shululsish main guns were disabled, the AK Cruisers went to work on the thin skinned escorts. Despite the exchange, the Shululsish ships were unable to disable the cruisers’ guns or draw them out where they would be vulnerable to consistent missile fire. As such, the few missiles that did hit it were conventional ones and were ineffective, unable to pierce the armour, before the cruisers finally put paid to the Urima escorts and the small point defence fighters.

The next wave of missiles from the Girii finally found the point defences wanting. Smashing into the Vilani fleet, many of the massive ships were damaged or destroyed, taking a significant number of carriers out of action, and their point defences with them. The Vilani fleet began to break up, and the badly damaged Flagship headed to the jump point.

The Export cruisers pressed forward with the attack, successfully damaging the jump drive of the enemy flagship, but at great cost. Drawing the enemy fleet back into missile range of the Girii fleet by offering themselves as bait, they were targetted by a large volley of missiles. But the Vilani were saving the Nukes for this occasion, and while the regular missiles were not able to penetrate the armour, several nuclear tipped missiles were included in the swarm launched at the cruisers before they could retreat back to the point defences of the rest of the fleet. Several nukes hit the until now invincible cruisers, and they were finally destroyed.

Despite their losses, the missile storm unleashed by the rest of the Girii fleet, now drawn in close enough to the combined fleet that they could not withdraw and now without the point defences of the Urima class, were wiped out within 40 minutes. The fleet that came to the gas giant saw this and reversed course, back to the jump point while collecting their fighters. The combined fleet lost the flagship when it was successfully boarded, as were a number of other vessels.

While this battle would most likely see the end of the civil war, given how bloody it was and the fact that nuclear weapons had been used by Vilani against Vilani, unsuccessfully, it would also see the end of the fleet that had brought Terra to her knees, without Terra being involved, and cement friendship with a large sector significantly separated from Terra.

It was 09 Dec before the Giriian fleet arrived at Lemrukiri

Vegan Class Light Carrier x 8
Kidashi Class Cruiser     x 7
Merishmirr                x 15
Kargash Light Cruiser     x 100
Urima Class Frigates      x 33
Escort Gashiddas          x 80

The flight of Kargash led by the last Aasha retreated to the planet, where 1000 fighters were launched. Using the fighters and Kargash as shields, the Aasha remained back. But when the the Giriian forces swept the fighters from the sky, the 10 Kargash surrendered rather than suffer a similar fate, leaving only the Aasha left. Faced with overwhelming odds, Sarriiu Khazuni (Zuni) Eshi escaped in a shuttle, giving the Aasha orders to cover his return to the planet. They do so, before surrendering themselves.

So the siege of Lemrukiri begins.

Meanwhile, the pirate fleet was sent to Garaanis, where the remaining flight of Kargash remained with a Merrishmer. At each of the Gas Giants, 3 Shamshirs and 5 Gashiddas remained. The pirate fleet defeated them, along with the 250 Fighters and 10 Patrol Gashiddas, and began the siege of Garaanis. The starbase, desperately short of supplies, finally surrendered on the 17th Mar 2179. It was not until 02 Sep 2179 that Lemrukiri finally surrendered, ending this civil war.

The Fifth Interstellar war: 2176 - 2186

The war did not really end as far as Terra was concerned with the Armistice of 2176. Nusku had fallen, and Terra was determined to retake it, taking the opportunity peace offered to rebuild their forces. They built new ships, and prepared to retake what was lost. The Giriian civil war cost Dingir dearly, and not just in ships. Girii, victorious due in no small part to Terran operatives giving a lot of assistance, not all of which was terribly covert, were open to the new Terran colonies using their space as entry for raiders into Dingir. This forced considerable forces to be withdrawn to shore up borders that were never a problem before. With the Dingir fleet spread out and weakened, Terran launched several attacks almost simultaneously.

In September 2181, small raids on Iishu and Nunashi resulted in minor losses on the spinward side of the sector. Then, at the start of October, raids of the base at Shuruppak and Nusku were launched, resulting in even more significant losses. But this had other implications as well, as raiders, following close on the heels of the force attacking Shuruppak jumped deep into Vilani territory. Widespread raids by single warships throughout the sector threatened to disrupt trade and commerce in ways that had not been felt before, and even though the raiding fleet withdrew, the threat of such a force made commanders scared to break up their fleets to hunt for individual raiders. One full unit of Shamshirs was even lost to a combined fleet of raiders deep in Vilani territory, further adding to the fears of fleet commanders.

With raids on Shuurashana and Sikigi, even though the fleets withdrew the systems were still menaced by fear of the return of the Terran fleet. In addition, the fleet at Chrysolite had moved up to Yenisei, bolstered by alien allies, added fuel to the fear that the rimward systems were terrified of being overrun. In early 2182, some of these threats were realized as attack on Saris, Nunashi and Sikigi resulted in the loss of over 40 Kargash, 5 Vegan Carriers and at least 40 Shamhsirs, as well as the loss of nearly 1000 fighters, some of which were captured and taken to be modified to the barbarian standards. More importantly, Kidashi was forced to finally admit they were not able to withstand the Terran fleets on so many fronts, and they begged for more ships. Dingir was forced to send their fleet Rimward instead of defending Nusku. It was becoming a war of attrition, and despite the much larger Vilani losses, their production was being ramped up to match.

Despite the latter half of 2182 being quieter near Sukun, raiders continued to strike from Chrysolite and Procyon. Vilani fleets were forced to consolidate, leaving smaller worlds open to Terran raiders. This hamstrung the sectors efforts to rebuild a winning fleet and created a greater willingness among less traditional Vilani to negotiate with Terrans in small ways they would not have considered before. It also allowed the Terran military to focus on Nusku, with the main Vilani fleets chasing shadows in defence. For the first time, the Terrans were on the offensive, with Labrysian allies, and in 2183 Nusku finally fell back into Terran control. However, the combined efforts of the Terrans with Labrysian allies succeeded in capturing the outpost of Markhashi in 2185. Combined with internal political intrigue was enough to force Yangila the step down, handing control of the province over to the Dumushir clan. The new rulers opened peace negotiations with Terra, ceding control of Nusku to Procyon as well as Markhashi to Terra and abandoning the most restrictive border policies of Yangila.

Orbiting the inner Gas Giant, a habitable 5,000 m dia moon with Thin atm, high carbon Monoxide and Dioxide levels, 10% surface is water but very few plants. A small AK farming outpost has been established here for arid area plants with a population of 100. There are 6 Light Beam Turrets and 1 Heavy Plasma Turret defending the starport and colony, plus 20 AKHB fighters and 5 AKHB Bombers.

Yarling Refinery, (2622) 0 GG, 1 planet with dense, Tainted Atmosphere, and 11 other planetoids or moons.

This Planet has a Refining colony with 6 light beam Turrets and 2 heavy Plasma Turrets, plus a wing of 20 AKHB Fighters and 10 AKHB Bombers. The refinery works in it's own right and has a population of 300.

Twins (2724), Binary, 3 GG, 4 moons.

Gas Giant 1 (where Planet is)
There is a 1000 dTon AK Ball Asteroid Base here. Will be a full Remote Base by 2192

Nushmi Report by Terran scout Samuel Hsai

Nushmi defies the usual assumptions for a kimashargur world. Prior to A.D. 1100, Nushmi was well on its way to becoming a breadbasket world for the Vilani pocket empire centered at Dingir, to trailing. The population was widely spread out into farming communes, so when the Vilani Imperial war fleet swept through the subsector to incorporate dissident territories, they used mass drivers and nuclear weapons to destroy the starport and governmental centers and then moved on.

Nushmi's distance from Dingir and remote location off the Jump-1 mains meant the planet was not revisited for years, and by the time Imperial agents returned to review the world, they found an inversion of usual kimashargur values: the Nushmin had rejected their former love of technology and progress in favor of a radical traditionalism, returning to the caste-based preindustrial society that had characterized much of pre-starflight Vilani history. Despite maintaining a technological infrastructure roughly equivalent to Earth's Roman period, the Nushmin aggressively resisted any contact from off-world, viewing star travelers as inherently corrupt from such excess innovation.

Rather than blast Nushmi's lush biosphere into oblivion in order to retake the world, the Imperium wrote the planet off. Nushmi lies on no trade routes, acts as a gateway to nothing except barren Khishirii, and poses no threat to Imperial interests. So the Vilani left automatic interdiction satellites in orbit and abandoned the world to its own devices.

A millennium later, Nushmi maintains the same doctrinaire anti-technological stance of Vilani conservatism writ large. Terran ethnologist Samuel Hsai has written a monograph on his recent clandestine visit, using local cultures and customs to theorize about life on early Vland. But, all in all, Nushmi remains a lush but underdeveloped backwater, deliberately turning its back on the wider universe.
