The relaunch of the new cruiser is accompanied by considerable attention on Girii. The losses to pirates in neighbouring systems have done much to weaken Lemrukiri, but they have countered their losses by involving the sector underling, who have also taken losses. The response has been a delegation sent to the Emperor's court, which makes many in leadership nervous, so they are glad for good news. A delegation of Girii officials has gone to counter them.

Further, the pirate base at Lone Pine has been developing rapidly. Parts recently stolen have enabled a lot of upgrades to occur, but more significantly, an agreement with Girii, granting them defacto control over the pirates in return for infrastructure support have reduced the lawlessness a little and increased their ability to manufacture goods, including ships, considerably, opening the door for private enterprise. Kalashnikov industries is just one of the Girii based industries that have opened a remote office there as a result. The loss of Silverbeard's ship and the work being done to modify many captured vessels has seen pirate attacks largely stopped for now, but this htqhas yet to give diplomatic rewards.

In the meantime, Lemrukiri has claimed a number of scarcely populated worlds from Gima to Arsha. Due to the lack of warships, they are enforcing this claim with patrols of Merrishmer cruisers, escorted by Shamshirs, and using small squads of mercenaries in Bounty Hunters as privateers. You are requested to deal with either of these forces, as you see fit.

We'll look at going to Seru first. That will be Excalibur and Madame Fourcade. Can Girri provide any ships?  If we are to collide with Merrishmer and Shamshirs, we'd like some help.  Captured ships will be provided to Girii first, before Lone Pine or anyone else.
Then leave a patrol and move to Amkun.  Silverbeard's Aasha would be helpful in clearing Arsha.

All of Silverbeard's ships are either being refitted or needed there.

Similarly, Girii is not wanting to separate their fleets, given the size of recent attacks. However, they do inform you that the Merrishmer cruisers have been seen with a squad of Gashiddas, due probably to recent losses.

Heading to Seru, there are three gas giants, around the innermost of which orbits the colony. Which one do you head to?

The populace was loyal to Girii was it not? Let's go there (That GG)  and see what we find.

How many cruisers can we expect? One or two shouldn't be an issue, 4 could be a problem.

The population is loyal to Girii, but the troops there are not. Nor are the ships there.

As you come out of hyperspace your IFF is interrogated by warships you soon identity to be just 60,000 miles away, but stationary. Their response is rapid...launch of all missiles and fighters, and a demand to surrender to the legitimate forces of Lemrukiri.

There are 10 Gashiddas commanded by a single Merrishmer cruiser that is launching fighters. We will used the 'Players ship' page for your own statistics.

60k miles is ½ damage range for the Particle beam?  3 = 45k miles?
We'll close and target a Gashidda with the particle Beam.

You launch heay fighters, which quickly dispatch the missiles, before turning your attention to those that launched them, movint to about 55,000 miles (-16 range penalty). Despite some training, your crew is still somewhat unused to the ship and the new weapons. The Excalibur's beams disable a fighter each as they launch, but all other attack from both sides are less than spectacular. As the sensor picture clears, you realize there are similar sized squads on both other gas giants, 5 and 13 hours away respectively. Due to their locations, you would have a chance of intercepting them before they can meet, if you depart within the next 2 hours! But first, you have your own problems...

Their skill is 16 with the particle cannon, and averages 17 across all ships and fighters with the beams.

OK, No damage to the Gashidda we engaged?

The Merishmirr doesn't have a Particle beam (unless they too have been upgrading, which would be a big problem) , and I thought we said mine was a 10d(10) dmg.

We will close, assuming they don't have a particle beam and engage

The HPC was always 8d(10) damage, as posted in the rules thread, but it is the longer range and greater accuracy that makes it deadly, for precision attacks mainly. It did do some damage, but minor if you look in the post the HPs are recorded.

The Imperial Merrishmer has missiles, as yours did. These guys are not modifying them at all...that is their primary evidence against Girii going 'rogue'!

You close the range to 35,000 miles (-15) as the Imperial ships attempt to move away unsuccessfully. However their weapons either miss the fighters, or are ineffective as your beams destroy the remaining fighters. Similarly, the Cruiser being targeted by the main gun finds that the shorter range makes the particle cannon more deadly, as it is mauled by it.

You continue to close on the warships, this time closing to 15,000 miles (-12) as you continue to hammer the enemy warships, hitting one of the heavy missile batteries on the cruiser, and they continue to target the fighters that keep shooting down their missiles.

However the Madame Fourcade, now within maximum range of her plasmas, begins to savage the Gashiddas, disabling two and taking out an engine of two more, causing them to drop out of formation. The Vilani warships attempt to double back past you, allowing you to set the range for the next round.

The missile swarm they are now capable of can now be matched by the capital ships alone...

All light fighters have not been launched, only the heavy fighters, as only they were needed for the missile swarm.

The next few moments are spectacular. The plasma cannons of Madame Fourcade each destroy a patrol cruiser spectacularly, while the beam weapons devastate a maneuver drive each. Unfortunately, the cruisers finally manages to hit the heavy fighters, destroying three of them and taking little damage in return..

This does not seem to be working at all well... crew training is not up to snuff and Madame Fourcade is doing much of the damage, Excalibur is not doing well and she lets them know that they need to get it together and quickly. The loss of 3 heavy fighters is significant. She asks Madame Fourcade to use the Plasma weapons on the cruiser for a couple of shots.

The crew of the new cruiser are clearly still getting used to the new vessel. It is not surprising, given that the complement is much greater than any previous vessel you have owned, so many are new. The loss of three heavy fighters hurts however, and remaining heavy fighters make for their docks under continued heavy fire, but the5 left make it OK. 2 more patrol vessels are disabled, and the cruiser badly mauled, but they struggle on, despite their friends being hours away.
