The Minnow II

In reply to Sdian McGuire (msg # 44):

Ok. Finally the diplomat is finished. The discussions have been...difficult for Shululsish. They have been ordered to change leadership, to Saarpuhii Irkirin Sharikkamur. This new 'underking' is far more open to improved trade and economic growth as a means of improving the regions strength, working with Ishnar and Girii. Several other rulings were made about various Shululsish accusations as well. Not all rulings were in favour of Girii, but they have been directed to accept Shululsish authority in return for considerable influence in the court there.

This is seen as a good thing, and Girii is keen to use their influence to increase relations with Ishnar, which the diplomat sees as a very strong sign of Shululsish dropping all claims to disputed border regions, as well as opening up the borders to trade.

Whilst not all will be keen to get this news in Sululsish, the ruling from the Emperor has been made, so there is nothing to be gained by killing the messenger now other than petty revenge. Further, in carrying the Emperor's message back, the diplomat is no longer just a court messenger, by a Royal messenger. As such, he does not anticipate the same level of danger on the way back.

But he has enjoyed the trip with you, and likes your new, more spacious craft. He is happy for you to do some trading on the return trip. There is no hurry now. He offers you the same deal on the return trip: $10 mill up front, $10 mill on arrival and docking, fuel and supplies en-route. Of course, the choice is still yours.

Very well, we will assume the same general route back (assuming it was reasonably direct).

We will mention (Post) our return and planets visited for passengers or cargo. figure two days before all are situated and we leave.

Sure. Given the time you have spent here, I will forgo the usual roll to find a merchant. But there are a lot of planets listed in the Players Vessels thread. Since you are on Vland, roll 1d6-1 for passengers to each planet, noting your capacity. Given large cargoes will go by regular ships leaving, roll 2d-2 for cargo to each planet. I will work out the prices once the planet has been identified.

I currently have 9 crew, self include and 2 passengers (Hamish & Diplomat)  i could take as many as 5 passengers, although not too crazy about filling up.

Cargo, given all the planets could take a week to roll... we'll look at the first 10

Passengers, looks like a full ship.
20:13, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 1 using 1d6-1 with rolls of 2.  Passenger.
20:13, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 4 using 1d6-1 with rolls of 5.  Passenger.
20:13, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 0 using 1d6-1 with rolls of 1.  Passenger.

Cargo:
20:16, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 1 using 2d6-2 with rolls of 2,1.  Cargo.  To Asanik
20:16, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 5 using 2d6-2 with rolls of 3,4.  Cargo. to Kha
20:15, Today: Sdian McGuire rolled 5 using 2d6-2 with rolls of 6,1.  Cargo.  to Sazisi

We'll not worry about the last 1.5 tons of space...

I think you may have forgotten to count the nursery as 2 PAX, meaning you have just one empty room for 2, right? Of course, the New shuttle has life support and 10 bunk room, with life support for 10...so you could fit some PAX there too. Hamish, Ronny, Duran, William and Willow like the view from there without the kids too.

As I count, you have
Captains Cabin
Nelaroi and Luretha
Yung No and Jurelda
Nursery
Diplomat
3 Spare Double

On Shuttle Bunkroom
Duran (Pilot)
Hamish
Ronny
William and Willow

Value of Goods: Sazisi, $7000 (5 dTons), 0 PAX

Value of Goods: Kha, $14,000 (5 dTons), 4 PAX ($20,000), 1 family.

Value of Goods: Asanik, $4,200 (1 dTons), 1 PAX ($7,500)

With less than 2 dTons of supplies, you also have 10 dTons of space on the shuttle...

The Shuttle may be needed to move things, so filling it with cargo is counter productive. We can provide Willow and William a cabin for privacy's sake, as I am sure the shuttle only has bunks.

3 Spare Double ... Cabins or one cabin for 3 ?

There are 3 cabins with two bunks in each. Correct, there is one shared room in the Shuttle with 10 bunks in it.

Some suggest using the Shuttle as the nursery/accommodation for the mothers and Yung-No and Jurelda, but this is not liked by Duran, particularly, or the single women.

Or by Sdian ... The children should be sleeping through the night by now and should not be that much of a problem... if someone wants to stay here and get a different ride, we can look for a replacement

Well Nel and or Luretha are welcome in my cabin obviously... Jurelda too for that matter.

Your general arrangements are fine except that I think Willow and William should have a Cabin, unless I misunderstand their relationship.

Oh, they are good together...just used to finding their own place. But they will not object to a cabin together...but would prefer the extra little bit of pay for giving it up.

What extra little bit of pay?  I am doing them a gracious favor.
I will suggest they come into my cabin together and explain themselves and their relationship to me, a good bit better. I do not need curious kids or anyone else stumbling upon them in the throes of passion. I do not need them getting sidetracked on duty. If that isn't something that occurs, then they can stay in bunks.

They understand that your original agreement allowed them to have a cabin as a couple, and they in turn would carry ot their duties as crew, which they have done. They intend to continue to carry out their duties, but they suggest that if they get a shared bunk-room you can take a few extra paying passengers. They are happy to give up that luxury, even if they are entitled to it by your original agreement, for a small portion of the extra passengers fees that use their room. They figure if they take something less comfortable so you can take on a few extra passengers, they should get a little of the extra income. It is a win-win situation.

I see, I did not understand you offer. Were we to need to do that, we would share the proceeds. You are husband and wife? Or wish to be? I am not concerned if you choose another arrangement, but wish to know so I can treat you with the respect I would wish. i feel the bunk room inappropriate from what you have told me so far.

"Yes, we are definitely husband and wife, but we can easily make do, especially for extra cash. We would keep things appropriate if we were to share the bunk room. We understand that as soon as the passengers leave, we would get our room back, until we have more passengers, so we can wait."

OK, and if you don't mind, you both are obviously saving for something... your own ship? a place to settle down?  I can make decisions best if I know what you seek. Sometimes things present and I would not wish to pass on something you seek.

Sdian Laughs... Human, yes, barbarians... some arguably, mostly because they follow norms other than those the Vilani advocate, but generally they are little different  and have some benefits, as they tend to see women as equals mostly, many of the crew have had dealings... some of us are part Terran, I am for instance.

No problems, where we are going there are whole systems of Kimashargur ...  and the Vilani grip is tenuous. But no one wants to be nuked either, so they are cautious, but the Vilani are slowly losing their grip I think ... and beyond those systems are some that are wholly free of the vilani.
