Roland doesn't have a compass, I'm afraid. Maybe just go left at the lake? The problem with "east" is orienting ourselves at sunrise/sunset (unless one of has the Outlander background?)

Judging by the description of the cliffs and the possible names for the towns then they are definitely east of us.
