ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

<--- From the Streets of NeverWhere

As ya'll are heading the streets, ya'll see a flash of light as if almost a daytime for a second as a ship appears in the sky.

People start running as the ships tentacles start to grab buildings, and you all notice a tentacle grab a person running and they turn to dust.

The Dragonriders quickly sprung to action and started attacking the ship.

As ya'll begin to take evasive maneuvers the ship is just a little too quick and multiple tentacles grab ya'll each disappearing in time.

You feel the place shaking and you hear dragon roars, as the illithid moved from pod to pod, then heads out of the room as the roars get louder, and the shaking gets rougher.

Everybody's vision is normal, one violent rock breaks one of the pods

better picture of the ship

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

Trager's vision blurs for a moment, but he remembers where the opening in his pod was and rushes out, hoping it didn't close before he made it through.

It didn't.

He stood in the center of the room, looking around. Pain shot through his head again and he staggered, clutching his eye. He saw a glint of metal nearby, and spotted EDi. He approached, dropping his hand from his eye and trying to squint enough to see through the pain in his left eye.

"Back up, EDi," he growled.

Giving his head a shake to clear it, EDi was seriously starting to wonder just what in the hells was going on.  At Tragers order, EDi gave a peculiar little head tilt, confused. But this thing is the size of a coffin... Still, he wiggled and fidgeted as best he could in the narrow confines of his pod. After very little, if anything had changed, he gave the old soldier a nod.

"Do it." He braced himself as best he could, and waited.

Adora groaned but couldn't move to even address the pain. She was in some strange fleshy prison and she didn't like it. She whimpered and mentally called out to the Raven Queen, her patron as a hexblade, to try to save her from this hellhole, this strange creature that would harm the good side of her face.

Gritting her teeth, she summoned the might of her eldritch power and unleashed her Eldritch Blast upon the pod she was in. No one was going to let her out. She would need to do it herself.

With a gasp, the force of her eldritch blasts cut through the soft material of her prison. She tumbled free and awkwardly crawled away from the strange fleshy cage.

"Ewewewewewewwwwwww!" She muttered as she moved away.

Adora looked around at the cages, and looking for an exit. And then she spotted Trager.

"T-Trager?" She called, rubbing her left eye.

Trager slid his hammer from the ring on his belt and hefted it in both hands, eyeing the cage on the side away from where EDi was cramped. There might be a locking mechanism of some kind, he mused. Never was good with locks.

He pulled back with the hammer in his right hand and brought it around in a sidearm arc, smashing it into the edge of the cage at EDi's shoulder height.

He heard Adora's cry then, and turned toward her. "Adora! My... cage... popped open when the big shake happened. I'm trying to get EDi out now." He looked around at the other cages. "See if you can free anyone else." He turned back and inspected the damage he'd done to EDi's prison.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

EDi flinched hightily as the hammer struck the fleshy cage holding him, but hummed happily as he felt his restraints sag. Now he could at least move a bit more. With a short grunt and a push from the arm closest to the impact point, the skin of the pod tore enough for him to climb out. After managing to catch his feet, he reached beneath his dirty rug poncho and pulled his pistol.

"Much obliged." He nodded at the old soldier.

Stepping quickly, he went to the only doorway in the chamber and stood just to the inside of it, gun held up and aimed upwards in a ready position. EDi could hardly keep his mind from racing with what was going on. He couldn't even comprehend what was going on. He reverted to his training, both from his initial years at Basic, and what he practiced on his own since he left. All he could do was hope that he was on the blind side of the door if that Whatever that thing was. decided to come back in and finish its task. He turned back to the soldier, and finally noticed that the elf from earlier was there as well. He gave up a quick, hurried wave at the recognition.

"Hey Adora!" The stage whisper carried easily in the room before he turned back to focusing on the doorway.  "Doors covered."

Look with her right eye. Realizing that she was trapped in a small cage. Noticing people breaking out of there cages she yell out to them. "Hey do you mind?" Sticking her hand out and pointing to herself. Indicating that she would like some help getting out of this thing.

Adora took Trager's instruction in stride, not needing a fight with a friend right now. She moved toward the first pod and called upon the eldritch powers that granted her her abilities and summoned her long sword to her hand. EDi declared the door covered and she looked over sternly.

"Double check your weapon now and make sure it's loaded, please," she said as she went to the pod occupied with a man asking about eye drops.

"Hate to break it to you, bud, but we all probably will need a cleric after this."  She swung her sword and cut into the pod to try to release the man.

"Or an exterminator," Trager muttered, approaching the Elven maid's cell. He pulled the hammer back and slammed it into the tentacles on the side of the cage.

Once the tentacles were limp, Trager placed the hammer on its head, reached over his shoulder and pulled his shield off of his back, strapping it to his left arm. "What do you see up there EDi?" he called out as he tightened the last strap, flexing his fingers around the grip before lifting the hammer again.

"Of course she is loaded." He said confidently, then quickly opened the weapons breach to double check, snapping it shut with a flick. He was doing his best to stay calm and ready, a good degree of shock was setting in, but after the crazy night he had experienced earlier, he felt as if he were taking things in stride rather nicely, all things considered. The voice of the soldier snapped him back out of his own head, and he responded.

"Door is closed....uhh...." He quickly looked around slapping the wall nearby in several places, not finding any particular or familiar handle or knob or even lever that might serve as an activation for it. "...Uhmm...and I can't figure out how to open it short of making my own hole."

Trager turned to Brad, gray eyes studying him from within his helmet. "Trager," he said finally, his voice like gravel. "And I don't think that's going to be a good way out." He looked up at the hole. "That's about 25, 30 feet up there."  He shook his head, looking back to Brad. "I could probably toss you," he eyed the man up and down, "but it would not be the best idea," he finished. "We're still probably a hundred or so feet off the ground, at least."

He spun the hammer in his right hand. "I think we need to be prepared to fight our way out of here. If you don't already," he nodded at Adora's blade, "you should get a weapon out."

He felt the thrum of battle course through him. Hello, old friend, he thought. He had missed this feeling, he admitted. He had tried not to ever enjoy it too much, but he was a warrior at heart, even after years away from it.

He looks up to see if there is anything around the hole in the ceiling that the end of a rope could be looped to. If so, he ties a loop at the end of a rope, and carries it up to the hole with mage hand.

"What in tarnation are you doing?" He said in a loud, hushed tone. "You're gonna futz up our sneaky getaway, now do like the old man says, and get to moving like you don't want to stick around."

He was in the process of adjusting his tattered bowler cap when he spotted something that looks like a chest or large storage box. He began heading straight towards, hoping that there might be some needed supplies inside. He strode carelessly through the wet puddle on the floor, heedless of if he stepped on any of the struggling worm like creatures and aimed a heavy steel foot at the lid of the chest, in an attempt to open it immediately.

Trager stopped growling and stared at the infinite abyss of night that surrounded them, the dizzying depths stretching and yawning in all directions and yet in none. He stared at an endless fall, an everlasting eternity of solitude that awaited one step outside. In that instant he knew fear, felt it grasp at his heart and squeeze. He felt the touch of death run its cold, unfeeling finger slowly down his neck, like the caress of a lost lover. He had never felt this depth of fear before, and he was certain he never would again. But Trager knew fear, so he did what he did best.

He shut the fuck up and dealt with it.

"That way is the last resort," he called, stepping away from the hole. He eyed the platform, and looked up at the second level.

"Up," he pointed to the second level, "or forward?" he asked, pointing at the door.

We'll discuss our likes and dislikes later, but for now, what's your name?" he asked, beginning to uncoil the rope from his pack.

<your response here lol>

He nodded at her when she was done. "A pleasure," he rumbled, turning. "EDi and Adora go up first. EDi, you will hold this," he held up the rope, "in case we can't get this thing back down again. Adora, I liked the sword earlier," he nodded to her. "Guard EDi while he anchors our climb if necessary."

He stabbed his index and middle fingers toward Brad and Isabeau. "You take the second ride up if it works, if not, Isabeau climbs, then Brad, then me." He handed one end of the rope to EDi. "Hold it or tie it on," he said, then turned so he was facing everyone, lifting his hammer again and shifting the grip on his shield.

"Any questions?"

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

EDi gave a polite nod at the new Elf as he was introduced. This was so interesting! She had a very peculiar name to EDi, but she was an Elf, so maybe it wasn't peculiar to her. Izzabow? He was jarred from his thoughts only partly by Trager passing him the end of the rope.

"Right. No problem."   He quickly holstered his pistol with a fast twirl and began unfurling a bit of the rope, creating a big double loop and sliding his head and one shoulder through it so that it caught on his arm like a sash... or a bandoleer even! He tied it off with a solid double 8 knot, letting the rope hang down to his feet from his waist admist a dusting of the mold and mildew from his dirty rug poncho. Now that the rope was securely on him at least, he stepped onto the platform still thinking about the peculiar name. Maybe its supposed to be descriptive? But I don't think she even has a bow on her...

He reached over, slapping the button on the wall before anyone else could get onto the platform with him. He tilted his head just a bit and put on his best gunslingers grin. "Sorry, you know what they say...'EDi's first.'..." He reached down, redrawing his pistol and having it at the ready, letting its heft help calm the nerves he had inside. At least I have you, Basura. He thought to himself, and for an instant he froze, his mind grabbing hold of something.  EDi....Hazzagun...

And the platform began to rise...carrying him up with it.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

The platform stopped moving as it reached the upper level. EDi spun, once more jarred out of his own thoughts as he spotted some sort of...figure...sitting in a chair. He thumbed back the hammer on Basura and aimed, but paused.  This figure wasn't sitting, not really. It looked like a human male, and appeared to be securely strapped to the chair, instead of sitting of its own accord. He took a hesitant step forward, gun still raised as he looked around the small upper level.

There were no other windows or doors here. Just a few shelves and some racks, with a small tray near the man. All the surfaces of the racks and tray had a collection of assorted....tools. Things with sharp metal points or hooks, or even items to cut or pull. EDi could only imagine what the uses were for some of the items, and something in the back of his head told him that he likely wanted nothing to do with knowing what they were used for. Many of the items were clearly well used, and some still had some form of ick still on them. As he very cautiously approached the man in the chair he got a better look at him. The chair was some strange short, looking like it was built to strap down each and every individual body part, as well as recline, sit up, raise, and lower itself.

The man was another story. It was indeed a male, and more readily human than EDi first thought. It had looked off a bit and he could now see why. The top portion of the mans scalp and skull had been removed, starting at around just above his eyebrows. Is that his...? There was a mass of organ exposed inside the mans head, all greyish with large smooth wrinkles in it. The brain, sitting there for someones up close inspection. As EDi watched, the mans brain actually quivered a bit, seemingly all on its own while the mans body still sat restrained and relaxed. Well THAT doesn't seem normal, even for a human.

EDi backed away slowly, keeping the gun aimed at the man until he could see over the ledge, back down at the others.

"Uhh...Trager...?  Uhhhmmm. I...uh....maybe you should come up first? Maybe?" He rubbed his own metal hand over his face for a moment, to clear his thoughts. "Actually...uh....none of you prolly actually want to come up here. But...uh....well...."   He shrugged, helplessly. He didn't have the words or the experience to ask what he needed to ask.

Edi jumped noticeably to the others...whirling back towards the man in the chair. He watched, transfixed as it seemed that the brain itself was trying to climb out of the mans head. It squished and quivered wetly as part of it actually began to try to free itself from the mans noggin. He gave his head a hard shake as more words sounded in his mind.

"What do you mean 'Help You?'..." His voice started to get a little louder, his emotions getting the better of him.  "Maybe you just need to stay in there instead? You ever think of that?!"

Adora's voice barely registered in the back of his mind as she called out.  He undid most of the rope, save for the knot around his upper body and dropped the rest to the floor, kicking it over the edge without taking his eyes, or his gun off what he was looking at.  The brain quivered again, jiggling on its own.

"No! You stop that! Stop it!"

Adora heard the rising of EDi's voice as he kicked the rope down.

"Well, shit." she said as she raised her sword to her mouth and gripped it with her teeth and started climbing the rope, to aid the metal man with whatever was distressing him.

She got to the top and looked ahead past EDi at the man in the chair.... And his quivering brain.

"Holy shit! Who the fuck does something like this?! You guys better see this..."

She felt bad for the guy that was in the chair. "Someone sick and twisted that's for sure." Noticing that EDi was, what she thought, talking to himself. She tried calling out to him. "EDi!...EDi!"

As you are all looking at the man here with the top of his head removed, exposing his brain, you all hear more in your head then with your ears, "Help me out the cranium." As ya'll hear the strange "voice the brain begins to move and parts of it seem to be lifting, but then falling back into the cranium.

Isabeau listened to the brain voice as she called it. She also didn't wait to see what the other were going to do. The fear that someone else would have, Isabeau didn't have the need for.

She started walking, passing Adora and then she walked passed EDi. No stopping. Straight to the man in the chair. Stopping right before the man in the chair. Looking the whole picture over. She took her left pointer finger and gently poked at the brain. "Well it wants out. So who am I to say no." taking both of her hands, she slid them down the sides of the brain. Between the brain and the cranium. Hoping there wasn't anything that kept the brain from coming out. She slowly started to lift up.

EDi scoffed as best he could.  Was this strange new Elf still addled over what was going on?

"Wait? What? No....lets just kill it now." He gestured, as if explaining the simplest of things. "Why would you even consider letting it go? Did you even wonder how it got in there? Rethink in your head the memories you have from the last 20-30 minutes and rub your left eye, and think to your self...'Gee, how DID that thing get in there?'...you think about that good and proper before you start to talk about making a deal with that other fellas brain!"

EDi was gesturing wildly, gun waving in the air as he looked at the others for support.  "Am I the only one that isn't crazy here? Cuz if so...this whole escape plan is just doomed." He stilled himself, still in a huff and at his own wits end, gun pointing towards the strange brain creature.

"I don't know that it's a good idea to trust anything here," he finally said. "But if we somehow have a way of ensuring it is no danger to us..." he trailed off.

He didn't like this. This place made his skin crawl, and something was tickling that place in the back of brain that told him something was wrong. Of course something is wrong, he thought. There's an endless sky outside, she's holding a brain that can talk to you in your mind, and you have a slug in your left eye. No, all of that is completely normal.

She looked at the druid incredulously for a moment, her right eye twitching. Then she straightened up and ran her hands over her hair, smoothing it out. It was a mess from being taken, but she tried for some semblance of dignity. Once she felt just a little better about her self, she walked over to Isabeau and then leaned down so her face was on level with the brain.

"Okay, Mister Brain. I've got a few questions for you before we talk about how to get off this flying death-trap. First, what do you call yourself. You're self aware, surely you have some kind of name for yourself or your... erm... race? And what assurance can we have that you won't betray us and that you'll really show us how to get out of here? One sign of you screwing us and we'll use you for eldritch skeet shooting. Got it?"

EDi mulled over the small creatures words, nodding along to himself that the creature indeed had a point in that regard, none of them had been taken over yet...at least that he could tell. Gun still drawn he slowly approached the creature, still in Isabeau's outstretched arms, with Adora peering over her shoulder at it, both looking intently at the creature. This was most assuredly the kind of situation that required a delicate approach.

"Pardon me, ladies..."  He smiled politely as he spoke softly at them, his eyes locked on the brain-like creature, still wriggling and dripping the odd bit of whatever onto the floor. His voice got a little louder as he addressed the.....thing.

"Basura says 'No.'..."   He shrugged, almost noncommittally as he twirled the old and damaged pistol around his finger a few times before reaching beneath the creature pressing the cold steel barrel of the weapon facing straight up in the center of what he hoped was a delicate underbelly. There was a split second before...

The bard...Brad maybe?...was still on his knees, screaming, so EDi moved off to the side for a better angle, and to keep an eye on him. He hoped that it had nothing to do with the slug thing that other strange creature had put in everyones eye.  He was still in a bit of shock that his first shot had not killed the creature entirely, this thing was appreciably tougher than he originally thought for something made out of someones brain.

"Put it down!  Put it down so we can kill it!"

He aimed once more at the creature, keeping it in his sights.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

EDi watched the brief struggle between Trager and Isabeau. Now they were fighting over the damned thing? His momentary confusion was drastically reduced when the old soldier promptly threw the creature out of the hole in the far wall, leaving it to disappear off into the distance. It suddenly felt appreciably safer there in the damaged ship as far as he was concerned. He watched Adora move to check on the fallen human....Brad, was it? Now the new elf was questioning Trager? Now she was concerned that the creature was no longer here...was she really that trusting of anything that climbed out of a dead mans head? Plus...she claimed to have horns, he was fairly positive Elves didn't have horns. At least none of the male ones he had seen had.

He took a good moment to calm himself down...gunslingers always had to stay calm, but this was his first really big adventure and he was trying to do his best. A quick check to ensure that Basura was indeed still loaded, and a follow up twirl of the weapon returned it down to its coinpurse holster.  He adjusted the moldy rug poncho into something at least attempting towards decently placed and moved over towards Trager.

"Well....at least that parts over, yeah? Nice toss."

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

Trager slowly let out a deep breath he hadn't realize he was holding, staring at the speck of light that was the brain until it disappeared into the black. He nodded at EDi's compliment, and placed a hand on his shoulder briefly. "Good shot, too," he said, then turned to Isabeau.

"Getting off this ship certainly wasn't going to involve a creature that had already threatened to take over our bodies, and that we had already attacked. It's done; let's move on." He looked about the new platform, spotting no exits.

"Guess it's that door down there, unless we want to try to balance on that ledge outside," he gestured toward the hole. "My vote is the door." He shuddered looking at the vast expanse outside of the ship.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

With no seeming response from Brad, Adora knelt down and whispered a prayer that the Raven Queen make sure he reaches his next destination. Then she stood up and moved closer to the others.

"As long as we have a plan, Trager, then we can get out of here. But where in the nine hells are we?"

She kept her sword materialized and ready in case more brains decided to come along and try to kill them, or worse, Illithid...

EDi turned to look at the fallen bard as Adora spoke.  "I ain't got no knowledge of healing either, but I can carry him if need be. Basura only needs one hand to hold her."   He turned away from Trager as he approached, looking down at the unconscious figure on the ground. He seemed to be breathing at least, which was often a good sign. He looked around on the small platform they were on...nothing really seemed worth taking to his eyes, so maybe it was time to leave if they could.

Trager was considering carrying Brad himself, but paused when EDi mentioned his pistol only requiring one hand. "That's a good point, EDi." He looked the machine up and down. "How much can you carry?"

One person would be burdened with Brad, but they could not simply leave him behind. Not in this... place. He could usually eyeball someone's carrying capacity, but... EDi didn't operate on muscles, bones, and tendons; he had cogs, springs, differentials, and likely not some small amount of magic.

Isabeau watched as everything had unfolded. When asked about healing, she just through up her hand and shook her head. "I am not much of a healer guys. Detecting magic is more of my thing. I can see if Im able to do anything for him before you decide to have EDi carry him....Just don't expect a miracle."After placing you hand at her side she walked over to Brad and took a cross legged seat in front of him.

She rubbed her hands together slowly before placing them on either side of Brads head, near the humans temples to be more precise. With her eyes closed, Isabeau started to concentrate.

Do you want me to roll for anything?

22:23, Today: Isabeau Thorne rolled 20 using 1d20+3 ((17)).

Isabeau concentrated as she focused on Brad. Focusing on is she could detect a magical host inside of him. And if she did detect something then she would try to heal what she could.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

EDi approached the fallen bard, eyeing his size and heft a bit before responding. He had carried more than a few soldiers that were too drunk to find their bedroll. Or some that had been knocked unconscious by the Guardsmen for something called "Disorderly Conduct".    "Oh, I can carry a good bit actually. Multiple full baskets and sacks of laundry. His weight should be well within what I can manage."

He was about to stoop to pick him up, when the strange elf knelt near him, her hands placed on the mans head. He took a few steps back, to get himself out of the way as she began to do...something. EDi didn't have much experience with magic users, but the infantrymen that he had spent at least some time with had always said to avoid them when they were working.

Isabeau sighed as she realized that there was nothing that she could do for Brad. She released his head. She looked up at EDi. "There's nothing that I can do for him. You can pick him up now." She got up and dusted herself off. "I think we will need to find someone that has more skills then myself."

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

Adora propped her sword on her shoulder and sighed. That was just what they needed, extra baggage. Maybe it would be safer for him to just lay here on the floor and for them to come back for him when they secured the... ship? Whatever it was, it was like no vessel she had seen in the port or the harbor.

A shudder went down her spine. Leave him behind.

Like you were? A small voice in the back of her mind asked.

She had been left behind before. The day she got the scar. The day the Lady came to her and gave her the power to take control of herself, and take revenge on her so called friends who had left her to die before.

Every time someone gets left behind a new Warlock makes a pact. That was something she figured to be true.

"Alright fine. Let's pick him up. I'll take point with Trager."

Adora looked around the platform, searching for any kind of door or opening that could take them to the next chamber beyond, and hopeful to somewhere where they could drive the ship.

ADVENTURE: What to do Now?

EDi came forward, holstering his weapon and stooping low into a squat to gently lift the unconscious human up onto his shoulders in a fireman's carry. He could now effectively carry the mans weight across both shoulders, and still leave his gun arm free and clear for the most part.  There was a dusty of dirt and debris from his poncho as the body was draped across it. He wiggled his shoulders a bit until the weight was situated just so, and moved to stand by Trager and Adora.

"I suppose that puts Basura and I here in the middle then."

He was working hard to contain his excitement. The situation was indeed dire so far, and they had already had some sort of casualty, but they were starting to work as a team!  This was going to be so much fun! Just like the stories!

He pulled his pistol out and held it at the ready, willing to follow the point guards.

Finding nothing above, Trager accompanied Adora down the lift, shield and hammer at the ready. He eyed the hole through which he had thrown the... brain... and hoped it was the last they'd seen of such aberrations. "Coming up," he called, hitting the button to send the lift back to the second level. He scanned the room again before approaching the single door.

EDi shifted his load carefully, trying to ease any strain he might be putting on his proverbial patient, right now however, he was more concerned with his own mobility and capability to fight in order to carry them both to safety.  He stepped onto the platform smoothly, pistol held ready as he used the barrel to hit the button to bring him back down to the level that Trager and Adora were on. He moved off to one side and sent the lift back to the top for the other elf.

"Alrighty partners, me and mine are ready to move when you are. Lets see if we can make ourselves scarce."

Adora strained and tried to move the debris, but it barely budged an inch. She continued to pull and lift, not wanting to look weak or useless to her companions. Finally she stopped her futile effort and looked to EDi and Trager.

"Ahem. Erm, Trager. Can you, maybe give me a hand with this?"

She almost asked EDi, but then he'd have to put Brad the Bard down.

Trager nodded in response to Adora's question, staring at the pile of debris, not recalling its presence here before. I was distracted by the hole to nowhere, though. He sheathed the hammer, unstrapped his shield and hung it from his bag, and squatted to help grab a piece of the debris along with Adora.

"On three," he announced. "One. Two. Thhhree."
