Re: Personals (Out of Character)

I wasn't sure if we just show up to the site, or if we were going to have an establishing shot of, say, our get-together. I'm not used to the scene starting in the "news" thread and not the RP thread.

A little more than 2 years later...
Reading back through the last news thread I'm not sure what happened here.  Where did it all go wrong?  Is anyone still around?  If so what's your character been doing for the last 2 years :)

This was my most successful run at GMing a PbP game.  I've tried several times since, and no where near as many posts before they petered out.

Whoa. I don't know if anyone else is still out there. But I'm here. I'm not sure what Manmirror has been doing in the past two years, it sorta depends on what happened with the whole 'stuff vanishing in a puff of flame from the middle of a museum' thing.

Good to see you're still around!  I'll give everyone else a week to respond than we can decide what to do from there.

Another two years pass, and here I am again.  It seems to be a cycle.  I can't seem to let go of this game, but I don't really know where to go from where we were (or for that matter even remember what we were doing, I'll have to read and catch up again if anyone else is still around.)

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

I think waiting a couple weeks for others to come back last time was a bad idea, I lost momentum.  No one else responded last time, so I think it's just you Manmirror.  I can put out a call to players, but I think it was getting overwhelming last time, maybe just a couple extras.

It's actually been 7 years since I started this.  Time flies when the world goes to ^#((/ I *think* I'm in a more stable situation for awhile, but might be moving in the spring again. I think posting every day might be a bit much, but it did work better while the game was on, just thinking on that. I'm a bit rusty on FACERIP now, I'll have to dig it out and go over it, fortunately it's not all that complicated if I remember correctly.

I reread issues #1-4.  #!&^ that was some good stuff!
Rather than go into years since that time, I'd probably pick it up a week or two after those events.

So as I see it we left off with:

1) a bunch of newer snake-people that escaped again.
   A) They like to go in the sewers.
   B) A hidden snake-lab somewhere (unclear if any of the escaped snake-people knew where it was though.)

2) A disappearing and irritating time travelling magician.

3) An offer to work with the FBI.

4) A ritual with sacrificed cats in a graveyard

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

Yes, it does appear most are missing. I'm certain if you were to open it, there are those that would join. In the meantime, I'll revisit ManMirror and figure out what he'll do next.
Ok. I forgot how much I liked this guy. In the back of my mind, he's just a steelworker who developed abilities and started looking for books that would help him know what to do with these abilities. Someone suggested Sun Tzu's Art of War, and Manmirror almost memorized it. There are other sources for his wisdom and ideas, but none with the impact of Sun Tzu.

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

I have to say I was surprised to see this pop up on my homepage. I think I stepped away from RPOL at some point after this petered out in '17, but I've been back for a time.

I haven't looked at FASERIP, either, since this ended, but it's nice to see Blackthorne still looking sharp. :)

I'd be up for continuing if we get this going.

One question: Would you be interested in switching over to a different system, if one of them is easier for you to run? (I'm happy to reacquaint myself with FASERIP, but I'm not overly attached to it.)

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

Hey, welcome back Henry! FASERIP's fine.  I'm far more familiar with Hero/Champions actually, but I put that away a long time ago as I found it far too much work.  I did play Marvel once a long long time ago and kept meaning to go back to it for a lighter system

Well there is one I was kind of interested in trying ever since I heard about it on the Save for Half podcast, it has some interesting mechanics that sound like they're pretty good for emulating a supers game with emphasis on the roleplaying, but after briefly looking into it, it looks similarly point based to Champions which turns me off.  "SuperBabes: The Femforce Roleplaying game." :)  What an awful name, supposedly the game is actually good.

P.S. Now that you mention it, 126 pages doesn't seem too light I wouldn't mind a simpler system that fit in half that or less though.  I'm not familiar with anything simpler, It'd probably take more time to research that than continue on with FASERIP.

P.P.S. I seem to remember the first edition of champions wasn't too long, but I quit playing years after it was a giant tome.  I kind of like the semi-randomness of Blackball's version of FASERIP though.

P.P.P.S (Yes I'm getting excessive with the post-post-post-scrips) There's a couple I found based off of 0e D&D, which I'm far more familiar with, but I'm not sure D&D is the right system for a supers game.

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

My personal favorite "light" system is Villains and Vigilantes. Unfortunately, the character creation system for VnV doesn't care much about balance, making that the responsibility of the GM. Plus, the combat system doesn't work well with PbP unless modifications are made to account for sporadic participant posting.

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

A question on character generation.

I made the 20d100 rolls. my #7 roll says to pick a power of my choice or increase an Ability. If I pick a power, Do I need to use roll #8 for it's strength?
My #8 roll says to roll a random Transformation power, do I use #9 roll for what kind of power, or do I use rolls 7-14 on the power acquisition table, and use the others to check what random powers I get?

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

Powers start at campaign -1 rank, so since the campaign is "World Class[30]", powers start at "Great[20]" the next rank down.

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

Margaret Weiss Productions produced a Marvel-themed Cortex-Plus game in 2012 called Marvel Heroic Roleplaying. It won awards for the system and the game in general, although it was short-lived due to licensing costs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...l_Heroic_Roleplaying

I'm fond of the mechanic (thanks to the Firefly game she produced), and, while it's a bit crunchy, it also allows for a great amount of flexibility for powers and has a neat "attribute" mechanic called Affiliation (which basically allows you to choose whether you work best solo, with a buddy, or as part of a team).

The only thing is doesn't really have is a set rule for how powerful your custom-made character can be, although I've come up with something that I think works rather well, based on the example characters from the rules.

That said, it's a bit to learn (and we'd have to convert all the characters), but I figured I'd throw it out there as an option.

Re: Personals (Out of Character)

I did find Mutants and Masterminds d20, which is as you guessed it d20 (3.x D&D) based.  It looks oddly familiar to FASERIP in many ways except using D20s and 3d6 attributes.  There's an srd too: https://www.d20herosrd.com/

FASERIP's coming back to me enough we can proceed though, and it feels like I'd just be trading one ruleset that works well enough for another that I'm unsure of and have to get to know as well.  So FASERIP it is.

I'm always wary about putting M&M out there, because it sprang forth from OGL. 3rd Ed is pretty good, too, although it does have the Champions/Heroes fault that it's too easy to power game a character (especially if the player is better at it than the GM).

But, like I said before, I'm also good with FASERIP.

And welcome to Interface, Destiny Dame, and Kid Comet!
