Front Page News - Issue #5!

SNAKES STILL MENACE!
Reports are still pouring in of people wearing "snake masks" being sighted, with a couple muggings and robberies following the "Snake Riot."  One was even reported menacing a local church!  The FBI is now claiming that those apprehended were just afflicted by cancer growths, and any resemblance to snakes is a combination of hysteria, and hallucinations from sewer gas.  The damage done to the Asian markets were from explosions of said gas as well according to Agent Made!  Sewer worker Jackie Saadson says there's no gas there, they check!  Dear readers, we know these are really mutated sub-humans from beneath the city! Report any sightings and call the police immediately, these snake-men are dangerous and may even be contagious.

ALIENS REAL!
Several people that were held hostage in the "Snake Riots" claimed they had a young boy's voice talk in their head offering words of comfort and solstice.  Was this a guardian angel, or really the voice of a telepath at the scene?  No, it's an alien!  One man described a menacing presence looming over him with large eyes, invading his mind, but he heard the real voice talking in pictures of an alien world with strange colors, unimaginable alien animals, and the joy of inflicting pain on him.  Guard your mind readers!  Parapsychologist Sheldon Mandrake suggests reciting a well known psalm or song such as "Row Your Boat" to protect yourself from mental invasion.

HOMELESS ABDUCTED!
Local homeless advocates have reported an entire encampment on the strip median disappeared overnight.  Locals reported seeing weird lights at night around the area.  This picture was captured (just a burry mess of rainbow colors on the road)  Is it more aliens?  Snake people?  The necromancer "Tremor" from the future that attacked my very own self at the Rally to remove the Mayor?  Devil-women? or more "Sewer Gas?"  Report any information you have to The Mystery Times!

This snake business was getting out of hand. Considering what he should do, Manmirror remembered "begin by seizing something which your opponent holds dear; then he will be amenable to your will."
Sun Tzu coming through again! But what would his 'opponent" hold 'dear'? Maybe the answers to that could be found in Dr. Cobra's lab. Now if he could only find the lab, he could take a look, there. Well, someone would know something. He would just have to ask around.

Front Page News - Issue #5!

After a frustrating day with no leads undercover Manmirror takes a walk through the park to clear his head and sits with a chess hustler friend Chester.  He's smarter than most and knows how to keep a secret maybe he'll have some insights, it'll cost him a buck to be trounced though.

After listening and beating Manmirror Chester says "Hey, you know, I saw that broadcast on the Chaze bank robbery.  The reporter said the snake guys fled down a manhole near there, I'd think that'd be a good place to start.  Criminals usually start near home, that was their first appearance I think."

Max sighed. He knew Chester was right. Darien had mentioned the snake-men retreating into the sewer and there were several eye-witness accounts of the snake-people exiting the sewer. He just didn't like the sewer. All the poor alligators that had to be repressed when you're walking through. Plus, if you're not careful you hear things from people's bathrooms. No one wants what they say in the toilet to be public. Well, if he was going to do it, he would find the entrance that was nearest to the most recent attacks.

Interface is cautious, she orders the forklift to raise it's fork once more, to be ready for whomever might be coming closer, but keeping an eye on the hatch. She might need to open it to get away, or to block it being opened by 'reinforcements'. In either case, she stands behind the forklift, waiting for the voices to come into view.

Manmirror walks through the sewers, searching for a clue. Of course, anyone that knows anything about Manmirror knows he's always trying to get a clue. When he comes into view of the equipment, he directs a statement over his shoulder, "I think it might be Towmotorman, but he usually works East St. Louis."

Interface steps to the side of the forklift, and you can see a female figure, dressed in a white and black spandex suit and mask, with red over the palms of her hands, and around the eyes. "I am not Twomotorman, but if you, and your snake man friend, make another step, I might be forced to take action. Who are you, and what are you doing here?" Her tone clearly saying that she has a dislike to snake man.

Rather than stop, Max walks forward. He appears to be a guy wearing jeans, work boots, and a t-shirt, except every surface, even his eye's whites and pupils, is perfectly reflective.
"No, no, no. It's tow-motor-man. He was struck by some kinda freak lightning while moving castings around at a foundry. Fused 'im right to the machine, which was a forklift. On the floor they're referred to as towmotors, because that used to be the company that made 'em."
"I can see you're not him. I'm Manmirror, and Larry isn't dangerous. Didja know some of these snake guys got changed to escape the big 'C'? As long as they're not provoked, they're just tryin' to live as normal a life as they can. Larry thinks he could work in professional wrestling, and I think he might be right."
"So, your power is a pet towmotor? Cool. I'm going to assume you're down here lookin' for the snakemen that've gone bad. I'm just down here tryin' to figure out what the deal is with all the snakemen. I'm not sure, yet, what I'm finding."

So i guess like many things some are not as nice as others.   Nice fork truck btw, though a tad hard to get around in all places.

The snakeman, Larry isn't to be seen. Interface is sure she heard one, and with this construction work explaining he's cool, even more sure he should be with the construction worker, but doesn't seem to be.  The hatch that also shouldn't be there, but is, through which the computer Interface thinks is the one she's searching for beckons.

Destiny Dame and Manmirror aren't exactly sure what's going on here but clues (or Larry) led them this far.

Interface smiles "This is a nice forklift, but while it wasn't easy bringing it here, it served me well, as my physical skills aren't very high. But, what led me here is that someone, or several someones, amongst these snake men, have been using a computer situated beyond this hatch, which isn't even in the plans of the sewers, to try and hack some sensitive computers. If I can get to the consoles, I believe I can neutralize whatever their plans are, and to uncover what they planned to do. My body might not be the greatest, but my mind is sharp."

Well since we are all here maybe we should pool up some effort.   I had one of these lizards attack me on the street while i was looking around, had a nasty venom bite.   I would suggest that you not get bitten.  Other wise the trail lead me down here so I guess we could just poke around some more and see where they might be hiding.

What do you guys think?

"I think maybe we should open that hatch, but... I'm pretty sure this would be hemmed-in ground. 'In hemmed-in ground, resort to stratagem.' So before we even try to pass through there we should get ready for attack from the enemy on the other side."
"Now, I've been bit at by the snake-dudes before. When I get serious, it just kinda chips their fangs. So, I'll just prepare myself and stay in the front when we open the hatch. That's about all I can say, I don't know enough about you guys to suggest any other strategies."

Manmirror's surface has been, as his name suggests, mirror-like. Upon making his statement, the mirror-like surface dulls a bit, and he seems to sink a little deeper into the muck in the tunnel.

From the room beyond the issues the reply "Friendsss."

Blackthorne courses through the tunnels, relying heavily on his other-than-sight sensor suite as he follows his snake-man quarry through the sewers. He pauses near a side path when he hears conversation from that direction. Recognizing Manmirror’s voice, he gives a glance at the snake-man’s path and decides to find his fellow hero.

Entering another chamber, he finds Manmirror before a hatchway, with two other heroines - a computer nerd and Dazzling Debbie or something with two Ds - he recognizes from media and internal company reports. They seem to be talking with someone on the other side of the hatch.

Not one to interfere, he leans up against a wall and watches the proceedings.

16:14, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Coral, rolled 18 using 2d100, unique dice with rolls of 15,3.  Reflect Destiny and Manmirror's attacks. Both White, unable to reflect.  (OOC: I'm not sure if you should be able to reflect melee, but it just says physical and energy attacks, so going with being able to for now.)

Bam!  Pow!  The spinning Coral gets double-teamed hard by Manmirror and Destiny Dame, their strikes breaking some of his hard scales, but he stands - or spins his ground.  He says stumbling his words "Quiksss... a... coot... Dar, I can't hold them muccch longer!"

16:10, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Coral, rolled 5 using 1d100.  Bite Destiny Dame. White, miss

He says to Destiny Dame "Sssorry new girl, but you're clearly more dangerousss." then bites at her, snapping his fangs mere inches from her.

The person at the computer says "What'sss going on, the keyboard isssn't working?!" as he starts smashing the keys.

He spins his chair around, revealing a horifying two-headed snake man, one head is green and brown patches and looks oddly somewhat familiar to the heroes, especially Manmirror, can he place it?

The other is the size of a child's, purple and and has extremely large entirely black eyes even for a snake, and a very small mouth.  It doesn't even remotely resemble a human, but seems to be half-snake half something else.  The purple head says in a female voice "Manmirror, please stop him, he is not himself!"

The green and brown head says in a young masculine voice to Coral "It's Quetzzzalcoatl now! How hard isss that to sssay?  Nevermind. I'll ssshut them all up." and starts to put his claws up to his head in the classic mentalist pose.  (OOC: I'll wait until the next round for his attack as he was busy fighting the keyboard this round.)

16:24, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Spitter, rolled 98 using 1d100.  grab Blackthorne's \armor'. Gold - full hold and crush (Henry takes -2 RS to any action other than escaping (feat of fighting) or breaking out (feat of strength) silver required to end.) 20 str not sufficient to break through armor on the crush, but it's close!

Meanwhile Spitter yells at Blackthorne "I'll rip you out of that fancy armor!" throws himself at Blackthorn and wraps himself around him somewhat like a boa constrictor while ripping at the back of his armor with his claws, his armor starts to flex near its design limits.

14:48, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Spitter, rolled 8 using 1d100.  Haymaker. White, miss

Spitter fumes, hissing at Blackthorne.  He winds up a haymaker but telegraphs the move so badly Blackthorne has only to step slightly to one side to completely avoid it.  Spitter breathes hard from all the exertion and pain he's already in.

Manmirror blows through the concrete corner, getting him past Coral and into the two headed snake's face, both heads looking momentarily surprised.

15:14, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Coral, rolled 18 using 1d100.  Bites at Manmirror.

Coral says "What?!" spinning and biting at his back, but the cloud of concrete dust blinds him long enough to bite at only air.

The bigger head of the two-headed snake says "I'm Quetzzzalcoatl now!  How many times do I have to explain thisss?"  He stares at Manmirror intently

15:11, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Quetzzzalcoatl, rolled 5 using 1d100.  Sleep vs. Manmirror.  White

Manmirror feels a slight urge to yawn.

Interface glances around quickly, she sees a couple of wheels, behind a chickenwire fence, it looks like a manual train car - the ones that look vaguely like a see-saw.  What's that doing here she wonders? Pulled from some nearby connection to subways perhaps?  In any case it's heavy and iron, and will make a good target, her mind grabs hold of it.

15:21, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, on behalf of Interface, rolled 81 using 1d100.  Control Train Car. Success.

Manmirror's backhand knocks back Quetzlcoatl more fully into the train car's path, he's run over lying on the floor too, but he lets out some half-hiss half-scream sending a wave of weariness out, but again it it has no real effect.

Both of it's voices say "Help... me."

Spitter hears, looking over his shoulder and spits at the closest target, Destiny Dame, but hits only the doorjamb as she instinctually spins away from it.

It's a nice hit. Really nice; proper form, good technique. There's a lot to appreciate in Destiny Dame's punch, without delving into the visceral realm of thought. (Or, non-thought, as it is.)

It'd be a shame if he didn't express his appreciation, so Henry does.

"Oh, very nice. Do you use a specific art, or just good ol' red-blooded American brawling?" he asks of the heroine.

OOC: In the (unlikely?) event that Spitter is still conscious, he'll add a strike of his own (mid-conversation) to try to finish him off.

While the handcar is sturdy heavy steel, it still only weighs about 500 pounds and Manmirror casually tosses it aside. He wasn't paying too much attention to where he was tossing it and it ends up breaking the majority of the chemical lab equipment to the right where the room opens up.  The chemicals start mixing, some opaque sickly green cloud coming out of a portion of it that starts filling up the room.

15:43, Today: R. Race Rasmusen, for the NPC Quetzlcoatl, rolled 57 using 1d100.  sleep vs Manmirror 2.  Bronze, it's feat of psyche vs. psyche, his is higher so it succeeds.

Quetzlcoatl says weakly "fool" as the other head dangles from his neck unconscious.  At last his mental power unimpeded by his other head overcomes Manmirror, who yawns and lies down for a nap.

Interface thinking he's entirely out has started looking through the computer finding evidence of trying to also break into a Foresite Cancer Center's computers, but they don't seem to be up.  The attack on the FBI had already found information on Agent Made and her whereabouts, but were searching for the high security facility, but had not succeeded.  There's also encrypted files that appear to be names such as processes for the 'cancer treatment' though they hadn't been successfully accessed since Dr. Cobra was apprehended.

Destiny Dame creams Spitter so badly he slides up the curved tunnel opposite the hatch and falls again from the top splashing in the thin stream of sewage and not moving.

Blackthorne finds no damage among the heroes, besides Manmirror's bad timing for a catnap - and readings consistent with being in REM sleep.

Quetzlcoatl Hisses at Blackthorne "I have him, there'sss no bringing him back, and you're nexsst." seeming to have regained some composure he slithers up to standing, and makes the mental gesture at Blackthorne, just as Blackthorne wakes Manmirror.

Quetzlcoatl's boast proven false says "No, there'sss no essscape from the dream realm!  Thisss can't be!"

Interface finds the files are notes on how to produce the anti-cancer snake concoction and experiments results, and various 'improvments' there's nothing there about this Coral or Quetzlcoatl, nor information on a way to reverse it.  The oldest files seem more coherent and mention that Dr Cobra wishes he could retrieve his research files from Foresite Cancer Center, as he had to recreate the formula from memory, and it wasn't as effective as it originally was on him.
