The forest was dark but the moon was bright and shone easily on the path. Besides, Meri's night-vision was amazing and it was good of her to let Nym borrow it. Where Meri, The Ball, and Holder had gotten to was unclear just now, but surely they would catch up sooner or later.

Besides, Stonebridge wasn't that far. The full span of the stone bridge itself was visible quite clearly in the distance.


Lol, who knows what this strange thread could be about. Whooooooo knows. Anyway, roll me a perception check!

Oooh, has Mr Shadow Guy "tainted" us somehow and now he's inside my head to mess with me? Or maybe it's just something else weird. Anyway, Perception check, let's see...okay, nice roll this time - total of 20 :).

Or I'm just filling in time until Meri sleeps? Or I'm just trying to fake you out as a player and get you paranpid in a way that Nym the character won't be affected by? Whooooo knows. (Hopefully me, as always, or we're all in trouble)


A shadow suddenly appeared on Nym's peripheral vision, a very familiar one. It was the shadowhunter bat, gliding in silently as if to attack the changeling. However, upon being spotted, the shape veered off skittishly.

"Stop that!" called a familair voice behind Nym. Coming out of the trees strode Crass, dressed in simple dark green leathers with a staff and bow. "Sorry Nym. I was trying to teach them to hunt with me. They're harmless really. At least that's what my friend says."

Out of the forest came Gobbat, walking with an odd loping gate. He had a wild grin on his face, nodding encouragingly to Crass.

"We have so much in common," continued Crass. "He was teaching us a lot. It's good to have friends!"

The shadowhunter bat banked, and came back towards Nym. It looked like it was going to hit in to her, but then it split in to a hundred smaller bats that harmlessly wafted passed her. One even circled around to land on her arm. It looked small and defenseless, and seemed to have a small dark wool vest on, with twigs and leaves woven through to give it some added camouflage for the woods.

Crass held out his hands and some flew towards him too, landing and letting him pet them.

"Oh, that's what they were doing. How did they learn that?" asked Crass to Gobbat.

Gobbat simply put a finger to his nose, and then pointed back in to the forest.

From that direction a gigantic floating ball appeared, green and black. A mass of tentacles - ten in total - waved around the top of its head. The eyes on the end of the tentacles, and the eye in the centre of its face, all had a milky sheen and tiny black dots for pupils with white irises.

One of the eyestalks was smoking, and was brought down to mouth level to be blown out.

"Ta da!" said Many, looking pleased with himself.

"Aaaww, you're so cute!" exclaims Nym as she tickles the bat on her arm. She looks over as the enormous Many appears into view.

"Ooh, Many, you're so big!" she exclaims. "Did you turn the big bat into lots of baby bats? I didn't know you could do that!"

Can't help but notice that Many's avatar here looks a little less friendly that his usual one...

Lol, yeah, who knows what that means... I mean, it's not like I also removed the 'but a friendly one' from his name...

The little bat giggles then flies off to join its fellows.

Many looks at Nym oddly. "Well, yes... and why do you keep calling me Many," he asks confused. "You know that's not my name... Anyway, I learned it from watching you, mother!" he says happily, the previous statement forgotten. "It was a set of baby bats disguised as a big bat. Remember? Like you did with the ravens when we fought the Lich Giant? You made them all look like a giant black dragon, and when it breathed, it breathed ravens on him? Remember his face?" Many laughed a booming laugh.

"Mother?" says Crass confused. "That's not Meri!"

"No," says Many with rolling eyes, "it's Nym! Two mothers, silly."

"That's not Nym either!" says Crass, confused.

"Yes it is, I always know her," says Many, looking to Gobbat for confirmation. Gobbat nods, gesturing between Many and Nym and shrugging as if it was obvious.

"Well...then who is that?" says Crass, pointing behind him in to the mists of the village around them.

Many and Gobbat look directly passed the figure, as if there is no one truly there.

However, it appeared that Crass and Nym - relying on their normal eyesight - were being fooled. For there was indeed a figure walking towards the group, out of the shadowy light. It was Nym herself.


Yeah, Many is still a happy beholder. Why wouldn't he be, even in Nym's dreams :) Assuming this is Nym's dreams.... I mean, as a player you might suspect I woulnd't try to actually force some actions (even a dream) on your character unless it didn't originate from your character... What were you saying about the shadow man again? I forget and it's so far to scroll to the top of this page...

Uh-huh...yep I'm sure it's totally too hard to scroll back about three posts and see where I presumably called it that Mr Shadow Guy is shock-horror-the-bad-and-now-messing-with-my-head :D.

Nym looks puzzled at Many's odd statements.

"Umm, no I don't remember that." she says. "It sounds fun, though. And what's your name if it's not Many any more? Wow, you've certainly got a lot better at talking since...um...well, the last time I spoke to you."

At the pointing-behind action from Crass, she turns and looks.

"Um. Hello...?" she says, curiously. "Wow, you look a lot like me. But you can't be me because I'm me. So who are you? Are you just like me and can change to look like whatever you want? I can look like actual other people if I want, but it's much more fun looking like something I made up myself."

I still can't believe you are calling the nice sgadow man you met after a weird ritual was completed by a misunderstood orc shaman bad. You players and your weird perceptions on things...

"Ooh, Manyanymore, or Many for short, I should use that one, I was starting to run out..." says Many behind her, starting to get distracted as he filed away another name.

Lol, one day if he pays attention to Nym introducing herself, you might train Many to have about a hundred long names :) But will Nym ever realise his true name? Not today, at least not with hints from me :p

However, the wall of the castle Nym was in had a full length mirror that took up all the atention. The dirt on the walls had created the same dirt on the mirror itself, and so it was a dusky reflection she was looking at that emerged towards her as she walked towards it.

"Oh, hello?" said the mirror image curiously at the same time as Nym. "So you look just like me. But you can't be me, I'm me. Um, so who are you? Are you really like me and you can change to look like other people? I could do that, look like actual other people, but it's so much fun looking like something I made up instead."


I like dream logic :) You're in a forest that's actually the ruined village I mean obviously a castle. Also, did you spot Crass called Nym directly by name then a beat later said Nym wasn't Nym?

Yes, lots of weirdness everywhere, lol.

"Oh, just a boring reflection..." mutters Nym, turning away with a shrug and returning her attention to the beholder. "So what have you been doing lately?" she asks. "Anything interesting? Anything fun? You're really big now! I remember when you fit in my hand!"

She holds up a hand as if to demonstrate.

"And you're flying properly as well, without getting tired. It's like you suddenly grew up really fast. Well, I suppose I don't know that much about beholders, so I suppose it might not be that weird that you got so big so quickly. And when did I turn ravens into a dragon? That sounds really fun! I don't remember ever doing that. Wow...I hope I can do it again and actually remember it this time..."

Only when Nym turns around is it clear that the figure in the mirror was not her reflection, it was the reflection of The Other Nym inside the castle room.

Although Nym holds her hand up, Many actually flies off of The Other Nym's raised hand. He is exactly the size he should be, and darts around happily around the legs of another figure in the room.

"Don't you remember the dragon?" says a voice, but it is The Other Nym, as Many is too busy excitedly darting around, eyestalks looking everywhere. "Well, me neither. But maybe it was something like this?"

The Other Nym waves a hand towards the other figure in the room - Timur. Timur is taller than The Other Nym, and for the moment seems more intent on Many than on the Nyms.

However, The Other Nym waggles her hand. "Ta da!" she says, and Timur bursts apart in to a multitude of tiny Timurs. Many leaps back in surprise and rushes away, several of the Timurs running after him. Others go running to the corners of the room or seem to be running around after each other. Only one sits down calmly on the floor, takes out a small nail, and starts scratching hatch marks on the ground, looking around as if counting all the others.


This all seems like random nonsense. Maybe it is. Maybe I'm plotting something. Who knows? (As always, hopefully me).

Anyway, gimme a perception roll, and...you know... maybe prepare for the madness of this dream to be over...

You can chose to have Nym recall as little or as much as you like of it come morning, however, let's see how much of it you lot let me pay off :)

Well it's certainly weird, I'll give you that ;). Perception roll = 25, cool, one off a crit :D. Now watch as I proceed to roll under ten for every Perception check after Nym wakes up and is back with Meri :D.

Just out of interest, will you have Nym recall this dream or are you happy to leave it as a player only experience? And just have weird deja vu if anything suddenly becomes obvious?

Hmm, I think she'll probably sort-of remember it, but just as a weird dream and possibly not exactly as it happened, plus it's Nym so if she does describe it to someone it'll probably make even less sense than it actually did ;). If anything really specific happens, though (eg bats/ravens/Timur turning into a big bat/black dragon/giant Timur or vice-versa), she probably will, or will get confused as to whether it's something that actually happened or not. As in "Ooh, I remember when this happened before! Do you? Oh no, wait, actually, did I dream that? Hmm well, I can't remember. I remember it happening, though. So maybe it did. Or something? I'm not really sure, actually..." :D

Anyway, back to the central thread to be shocked awake I guess... the result of your perception check is there :)
