Patau and Rhogar's efforts of fire and blade finally finish the troll as it crumbles atop the dog fur and sinew.

Rufus sends a mighty thunder wave at the guards and one is knocked outside, buffetted with a bruise, and falls to his back.

The first guard yells "Hey that was Radosek's pet!" The guard draws his sword and swings at Hatch "You!" Recognizing Hatch from his time at the tower. "Traitor! The Queen will hear of this and your families will pay!"

Glad the one guard is blown back he pulls back the bowstring and let's the arrow fly.  A cruel smile comes to his lips when the arrow burys deeply into the gaurd.

"I'd advise heeding this large dragonborn's quite credible threat!" Rufus declared.  With a weaving motion he conjured a frost snap to hinder the nearest guardsman, then readied himself to back away once the magic took effect.

  • Frostbite on Ga2: he makes a DC 13 Con save
    • On a failure Ga2 takes 2 cold damage and has disadvantage on his next weapon attack roll
  • If Ga2 successfully saves, stay in current position
  • If Ga2 fails his save, move to bolded blue spot shown below.
    • This provokes an opportunity attack at disadvantage, which would trigger Heskan's Sentinel attack

An arrow digs into the chest of the standing guard in the door and yelps.

Rhogar poses his question to the guards and the guard who began standing outside responds "The queen has no mercy to those who defy her." Rhogar takes this to have two meanings, one for them, the other for the guards. They have no choice.

Rufus attemtps to pin the guard who just recieved an arrow in place, however the guards senses were temporarily heightened due to addrenaline and he leans away from the frosty magic thrown at him.

Immediately after the magic passes by the guard stabs Heskan between a soft spot in his armor (Take 5 HP damage).

The first guard instead of attacking turns and runs toward stairs that lead atop the wall. Patay and Rufus notice at the top, is a large bell. An alarm.

Silverleaf steps into the doorway "You are not leaving just yet are you?" and points a finger at gaurd 1 as a bright bolt of light shoots forth from his finger slamming into the back of the gaurd running for the bell.

Heskan decided he needed to stop the alarm at all costs, and flung himself towards the fleeing guard.  As he ran, he prayed to Tyr and light blazed from his hammer as he brought it down on his foe.

Not updating the map as I'm not sure how this resolves--it looks like Heskan updated Ga1's position, so I don't know if I can engage.

"No, no.  That won't do at all." Rufus said when the guardsman made a run for the alarm bell.  His comrades seemed to have the fellow handled if not dead already, but if the guard remained alive he'd suddenly find everything to be incredibly hilarious.

  • If Ga2 remains alive after all those attacks, cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter on him.
    • DC 13 Wis save or fall prone and be incapacitated by fits of laughter, and unable to stand up.  Can make the save again at the end of his turn, and at advantage whenever he takes damage.
  • If Ga2 is dead already, shoot a Firebolt at Ga2 and miss

Heskan and Patau send caution to the wind and dash after the guard running for the bell. As Patau runs the second guard swingsat her but Rhogar and then Rufus casts a spell which disrupts the guard. The guard falls in a fit of laughter onto the ground and holds his belly as it tenses and releases while he laughs.
Patau and Heskans weapons gash and chop at the guard and score horrible marks across his back and legs. The guard trips on a step and falls off of the icy wall landing dying on the ground in front of Patau. His breath is ragged. Left like this he will die.

The final guard looks at his situation. You can tell he is assessing his chances of survival. He drops his weapon.
"I..I... we are going to die anyway. Radosek is unforgiving. I give up. I.. give up. I want to live if only for a few moments longer. Please.."

The guards hands are up and pleading. He sees the gore of the troll, the dogs, his dead friend. He is terrified.

Silverleaf shrugged "Are you sure we can't just kill him, it will be easier." you can't tell if the elf is trying to scare the guard or serious.  It appears that Silverleaf's dark thoughts are starting to manifest into reality.

Heskan grimaced.  "Do you kill your prisoners?  Unless he crosses us, we shouldn't kill a simple guard after surrendering.  It isn't as though he is a criminal who's been assaulting and pillaging.  The light of Tyr's justice and mercy grants us fortune."

He turned to the guard, "helping us is perhaps your best option.  Betraying us won't earn you any favors after your failure here today.  You will lead us to success, and begin again as a hero, or die trying."
