M3: At the Ship

Meanwhile, while the away team is handling issues in the pressure dome, Forim Luk and Roger wait in the ship. There is always something to do on a ship. On a stock ship in good repair, there are endless system reports to review, routine maintenance to perform, subsystems to calibrate, and diagnostics to run. On a ship that has been modified, with a long history of use, these tasks are impeded by various jury-rigs and 'improvements.'

Roger and Forim are in the middle of a check of the repulsorlift drive coil. Roger is in the cockpit, monitoring Forim's progress remotely while keeping an eye on the sensors. Forim is elbow-deep in a serpent's nest of wires, which at some point in the ship's history replaced the pop-out circuit board that should be there. The two are communicating by the ship's intercom.

Forim is checking one of the wires when he sees the confiscated R2 droid, Hypno, rolling by the engineering section. The black droid rolls by quietly, its spiral-painted dome facing forward.

Forim hates the jumble of wires, but you make do with you you have.  He wraps some electrical tape around a frayed wire and says "Try that Roger, is the feedback gone from the tertiary control status monitor?"

While he waits for one droid to respond, he sees the other droid left with him, Hypno, roll by so he asks "Hey Hypno, what are you up to?"

Roger flips the switch for the control monitor; the display jumps to life.  While the display works, static remains, lightly obscuring the information.  “It appears there are more problems than we thought; the static is still there!

Processing the transmission of the astromech’s findings, “Do you think those might be smuggling bays?  You never know what you might find on these old freighters."

The two droids meet at the area directly behind the cockpit, near the ship's crew area. Forim is following along, involuntarily checking the bulkheads and floor panels.

Hypno finds a section of floor and rolls around in a circle around it. [Language unknown: "Etwe n e. Latno ch t, Ulteiv Traproany. Ceai Resalldayion, Ounwertra Redanyher. Niof p re."]

With this, the droid rolls off towards the crew area again.

Forim was aware of some false panels for hidden compartments placed by the Rebel Alliance. Those are in the cargo bay, not near the cockpit.

Forim says "I guess he wants us to search here.  If I am going to be left with you two droids on a regular basis, I am going to have to have you teach me that language Roger" he says pulling out his tools to first scan the deck plate, then start removing it.

ooc: let me know the rolls you want.

To scan it, 3D Perception. Using appropriate scanning tools will upgrade 1 skill dice.
To remove it, 2D Mechanics or 2D Braw1 or 2D Melee.

Roger gives Hypno a nod as they meet.  When the astromech trundles off, he addresses Forim,  “He says he found the compartment during routine maintenance.  I wonder what the spaces were used for…”  He bends down to assist the Flight Officer.

I’m not sure how to make rolls :P

Forim pulls out an electrical scanner from his toolkit and runs it over the space.  He finds nothing out of the ordinary, but easily finds the right spot to start pulling the deck plate up.

"Roger, what do your scanners reveal?"

10:34, Today: Forim Luk rolled no successes, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2p 2b 3d.  Rolling Perception.
Spending 1 advantage to pass a boost to the next allied character (Roger)
Spending 2 advantages to pass myself a boost die on the removal

Roger takes Forim's scanner and fires it up.  He scans the hatch and compartment beyond.

The scanner reveals trace levels of polyxychlohadrines in the atmosphere. The scanner helpfully suggests that these are the chemical product of nearby xychlodrines, and beeps red.

As to what those are, the scanner is unhelpful. You rack your brains.

Forim strokes his chin thoughtfully. Xychlodrines are a type of chemical rated as toxic waste by most organics. They pass through phospholipid bilayers and combine with intracellular fluids. Most organics find their tissues instantly dehydrated, causing massive pain and instant atrophy.

Forim further recalls that such things are not usually found on starships of any kind. They are mostly produced by factories as chemical waste byproducts.

"Well, that's not very good.  That is if you are organic... which I guess is only a third of us on board" Forim says to Roger.  He folds the helmet over his head, zips up the seal and then does the same for the gloves.

"So, we have a chemical waste byproduct hiding under the deck plates outside the bridge.  A desiccator, and dangerous one of that.  So, wanna open the floor and take a closer look?  We might end up breaking the seal though, might want to get some hazmat gear to contain it." he says to the old battle droid.

Forim enfolds himself in a protective suit. It should be fairly protective against stray dessicants, until they can get the place scrubbed out. The two also conclude that using fire-retardant spray should neutralize them further, so Roger grabs a fire extinguisher canister.

Forim and Roger pop open the deck. A chemical smell fills the air as a cloud of greyish smoke rises out. It is mixed with notes of organic waste odor.

The space under the deckplates is filled with pipes and wires. They have all been routed around a space, which has been lined with plasteel covering. There are a few crates stashed in there. One of them has been shattered open from the inside.

There is a layer of slime leading from the opened box out into the pipes. You hear a *slurp* noise.

Roger's narrow head moves as he scans his optical sensor across the scene, and he intones,  “That's not good...
He brings the scanner to bear again, bending down to bring the array closer to the crates and the slime below.  He reaches over and grabs a glowrod from the tools nearby and shines it down towards the crates, and the direction of the slurp noise...

3D difficulty again?

"No it is not" Forim agrees. "You know, I think I saw a holovid that started like this..."

Not trusting his coms on this planet, he goes over to the nearest terminal and types in a few commands.  Machinery all throughout the ship starts sealing up, vents close and the exteriour ramp closes.

If anyone were to try to enter the ship, the control panel would display a quarantine warning.  That should be enough to contain it for now...

Flipping on the intercom he says "P1, we have a loose biological on the ship.  I would guess about 40 cm in length, maybe 20 high.  If you need to scan its signature to do your own search, come back here to get a sample of the slime."

What is the mechanics DC to put together a remote control drone (on wheels, or repulsors)

No difficulty needed to open up further panels.
Creating a mini-drone would be 3D 1S. It's a little challenging and you don't have all the required materials on hand so it's going to need some jury-rigging.
