In reply to The Force (msg # 735):

As he began to fall Anders felt all his breath leave his body in a long stream as he clinched his bowels and held on. Once he had stropped moving he opens and eye and runs his hand over whatever is down there with him.

"I've got something down here... its solid... give me a minute."

He sees if he is able to climb on top, was it some sort of walkway ?

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Forim helped launch the Verpine high into the air and looks at the trajectory.  Forim is smiling long before Xykol hits the ground on the other side.  Spending most of your life in flight gave you a good grasp of ballistic mechanics.

As the group makes their way across, they all brace for Anders' more dangerous trek across the gap.  Forim's heart sinks almost as fast as Anders does and he grips on the line as hard as he can ready for the Jerk.

As the tension changes once more Forim is more confused then anything but when he hears the voice he sighs in relief.  "Make sure you are secured to the rope first" Forim shouts and then says "But have a good look."

ooc: I totes called it!  Did anyone get my reference ;)

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Anders carefully examines the invisible floor beneath him. He gingerly steps around, feeling for everything that might be under his toes before he places his weight down. It seems that about 2 m beneath the crevice, the invisible floor covers the entire width of the canyon. However, it does not exist the first meter or so after the first side of the canyon. When Forim checked with a dropped Stone, it's simply fell through the small Gap. However, it would not take a very long leap to land safely on the solid surface.

Once all the rebels are across, you check the far door. It is a much sturdier edifice than the one you initially pass through to get into this room. It is large and round. Beside it is an old-fashioned mechanical keypad. On it are a series of numbers in Base 10.

Unlike the worked Natural Stone of the walls, this wall is flat and nearly as smooth as the floor is. However, it is not featureless. There are hundreds and hundreds of symbols stretching all across the wall. They surround the door frame and the keypad, and seem to go from ceiling to floor, wall to wall. There are only two symbols, repeated apparently without any sort of pattern:

"I" and "O."

"Mmmm... Binary of some form ? Sorry that is about all I can offer, really not my thing." Anders draws closer to the door to inspect one of the symbols looking to see if they light up or anything else.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Roger begins reading at the top and right corner. He concludes that it is indeed some sort of binary code. After scanning the entire wall, he decodes it. This process only takes a few minutes, compared to the hours or days it might take an organic.

Once Roger is finished deducing the code he concludes it is a math problem. It is a parabolic equation, for which the 'y' variable is missing.

Once you have worked out what the equation is, actually solving it is a simple matter of entry into your datapad computers. The answer is 132.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Distantly, on the far side of the door, an alarm sounds. With a hiss and a loud rumble, the door begins to open. It withdraws, then rotates to the side. As the gap clears, the sound becomes louder. You peer into the bright light beyond the door. It reveals a hallway, about fifty meters long, lit by sunlight. At the far end, you see another pair of metal doors. You are about to curse the discovery of yet another obstacle in the form of a metal door when they open up. The two doors slide open to reveal a humanoid person. He has purple skin, similar to The Hunters you met before. He is wearing a suit of robes. Hands tucked in voluminous sleeves, he begins to walk down the hallway towards you. He is smiling.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

The man walks all the way up to you. You watch him for anything aggressive, and momentarily prepare yourselves when he draws out his hands. He is empty-handed though, and gives a little wave. He stops on the other side of the round door you just opened, and beckons you. He says something in a foreign language; it sounds a bit like the language the Aki-Varshi were using. Then he steps backwards a few more paces, points back towards the door he came through, then beckons again.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

The man beams as he leads you down the hall into the room he just left. It looks like a turbolift once you are inside it. It is a small room with a single door and nothing else besides a lever and a crank. Once you are inside, he turns the crank and causes the door to slide closed. Then he pulls the lever. There is a rumbling and then with a start the room begins to rise up. Most turbo lifts are impossible to tell that they are moving except for the sensation of rising or falling and a quiet hum. This lift is much louder, and is shaking as it rises. Your host does not appear concerned.

The man in robes reaches into his sleeves and pulls out a bundle of cloth. He takes from the bundle a long, narrow strip of thin cloth. He hands one to Anders, and then another to each one of you. He pauses briefly as he looks at Roger, then hands a strip to him as well. He keeps one for himself and then ties it to his head over his eyes like a blindfold. The cloth is thin, and you can still see his eyes through it. He makes a gesture with his hands as though raising another cloth to his face and says something to you.

Xyklo stuck closer to Forim than was strictly necessary. He was mostly lost here and trusted completely to his leaders decision making process, just happy no one had perished.
At the introduction of a blindfold he glanced again at the Duros, with his approval Xyklo also wore a blindfold over his large compound eyes.

Forim had no idea what he was doing.  His decision making process was haphazard at best.  But at least no one had died under his watch.

Forim places the blindfold, nodding at the insectoid as he does so.
