Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Xyklo sprayed a strafing array of blaster fire across the heads of the droids as they approached. Amazingly he missed them all, though it had to be said, it would be difficult for the automated beings to see through the Verpines dazzling display.

OOC: I got 8 advantages!...
6 to upgrade the difficulty of their attacks twice.
2 to add a setback as well.
We shall call this a bedazzling! :)

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Anders blasts one droid, damaging it. These old droids are made of sturdy stuff, and it keeps on moving despite a great crater in its torso. The droid attempts to aim its laser weapon at him, despite having lost some of its gears in the blast. The ancient laser weapon seems to be out of alignment after the attack and the impact with the ground. The laser cannon gives off a shriek as energy builds but does not discharge correctly. The barrel turns red-hot and it gives off smoke, but no blast emerges. The droid rises from the ground, now armed only with its machete.

The Force rolled no successes, 1 advantage, 1 despair using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1p 2a 1d 1c 1s.  droid attack Anders.

The other two droids remaining in the battle endure counter-attacks as well. They march up the pyramid, attempting to reach their targets. Zeic and Forim work together to damage one, blasting off its arm.

The droids' ancient optics are too simple to handle the impromptu flash attack. They struggle to fire accurately.

The one already partially disarmed suffers a fatal misfire of its weapon; now it is unarmed. The other is apparently determined to end Xyklo. It climbs up onto one of the battlements, giving it a good angle on the verpine sharpshooter. This makes it an excellent target. It does hit Xyklo with a laser beam, causing a painful burn.

The droids, at least some of them, have made it to the second level of the pyramid.

Anders continues to scramble up the pyramid to the top and the trees that are there. He looks back at the droid that is now disarmed and fires again towards it. His shot going wild Anders keeps climbing to the top of the structure.

The shot wings him, and the Verpine squeals in pain. Antenna flattened angrily, his eyes flash back to the droid. With practiced training he slaps the cool gel of a stimpack over the burning wound, and brings the rifle to bear.
Snapping off a string of shots at the droid, now the sniper is looking to hunt his target.

The shots strafe along the mechanical automaton, burning it right back.

Xyklo chirps away in Verpine, satisfaction evidently presented itself.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Finally, the Rebels' counterfire finishes the job. The droids are blasted, torn to pieces by high energy fire. These ancient battle droids might have been able to resist the lasers of their day, but modern blasters -- wielded with skill -- have ended the battle. Their smoking ruins lie scattered around the arena. The small trees continue to sit, content in their simple environment. Eventually someone grabs Roger and forces him to stop marching.

A quick search of the doorways through which the battle droids emerged doesn't take long. Behind each door is a kind of pod, partially filled with preservative fluid. These must have been where the droids were kept during the years between their construction and their last fateful fielding. Behind the east, west, and south doors there is only a small room. Behind the North door is a short hallway, leading to a metal door.

Anders watches as the last droid falls to his team mates laser fire. His plan now not needed he makes his way to the trees as well to have a look. Once satisfied he has gathered all he can from the small garden he follows Forim to the metal door.

Xyklo takes a quick look for fruit on the trees. It’s not like he would steal it, but they did just save the trees so...  tasty fruit would be nice right now.

Then he sees the others moving north and scampers after them in a clatter of guns.

The door is made of metal, but it is not reinforced or locked. It is a very straightforward process to open it. Apparently, you only press one of the two buttons to open it.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

For all Forim can tell, even with assistance, the door is a straightforward entry point. Doubting his own senses, Forim presses the button. The door slides open.

You enter a cavernous hall. The ceiling is about thirty feet high, made of smooth rock. There are regularly spaced "windows" that seem to let in sunlight, just as the ones in the arboretum  room did.

The floor is smooth and flat. It appears to be stone as well, but is worked to almost mathematical perfection. There is not a grain of sand or dust. It gleams, and is a little slippery to walk on.

The hall is about ten meters across, and about two hundred meters long. At the far end, you can see a large, round metal door.

About halfway across the hall is a pit. It is a deep pit, dropping down into the darkness below. You can distantly see the bottom. The pit spans the entire width of the hall. It is about four meters across.

Forim looks at the challenge and half chuckles in frustration.  "Running and Jumping individually is out of the question, some of us wouldnt make it, and the slippery floor will cause other issues.  I have some synthrope though, so we might be able to have one person jump across... if that is the only challenge in this room."

Forim looks for two things.
1. Something to wrap the rope around to give some leverage incase someone falls.
2. Something that he can throw down the cavern / over the cavern to see if there is more to this challenge then meets the eye.  Even some dust from the previous room to see if there is some camouflaged thing in the room.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Forim initially finds little that would serve as an anchor, but an idea occurs. If you wedge the rope into the door you just passed through, it might be a secure position. That would be especially true if you could make the other end of the rope too large to easily fit through a crack in the door.

Forim finds a rock and brings it back into this room. He stands over the edge and drops it. The entire team of Rebels watch the rock fall down into the pit. It tumbles for some time, eventually hitting the rock floor far below.

"Well if you fall that's it I would think." Anders looks to the other side of the pit before helping with the preparations using the rope. Anders makes a large knot in the end so the door can hold the rope while someone makes the first jump.

OOC: What is the difficulty for making the first jump ?

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Anders sizes up the length and estimates the distance to the far wall would make for a Daunting jump. At least there is plenty of floor space beforehand to get a good run, and if you can manage it you might be able to grab the wall on your way down.

It does seem like you only get one chance, though.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Xyklo backed up nervously. In all honesty he wasn't really too happy about this. He was pretty agile, and Verpine were a springy species. He'd always looked at the Geonosians as slightly awkward insectoids, but he'd give a fair bit fir those wings right now.
In any case, Forim had asked him to, and he wasn't letting the Capta... Flight Officer! He wasn't letting the Flight Officer down.

With the rope secured, and one of the rifles left to be ferried over, Xyklo took off. He hit the ground off his left boot, right boot smoothly into the launch board provided by Zeic and Forim, and propelled himself through the air. Arms windmilling he enjoyed a momentary sense of pure joy of flight.
He landed in a crouch on the other side, perfectly.

Turning to face the others he was a little short for words, and just stood there waggling his antenna.

OOC: Today: Xyklo Voozul rolled 2 successes, 3 advantages using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2P 1A 2B 4D ((10(P), 8(P), 4(A), 3(B), 5(B), 6(D), 6(D), 3(D), 1(D))).

Wow, excellent! Was not expecting you to succeed!

Xyklo feels charged and energized by his success. The relief of surviving has his body's fight-or-flight hormones in full flux, now being overrun by his pleasure & relief hormones.

Using the synthrope, Xyklo is able to create a firm tightrope for everyone to hang on. Now getting across should be a simple matter of hanging and shimmying.

Re: M4 WG: Harsh Climates

Anders holds firm, but suddenly the rope goes limp. The knot tied behind the door at the far side comes loose. Frantically, you attempt to hold him up by pulling the rope at both ends, and he clings on tight for dear life. He sinks into the crevice, about two meters below the lip, before you arrest his fall. He bobs at the bottom like a pendulum in the middle of the line. Then he hits something.

Abruptly the tension in the line changes as Anders hits something solid in the middle of the crevice. A firm surface, invisible to the eye, is directly beneath his back. He feels it gingerly. It feels chill and hard, like transparasteel, but so clear as to be invisible.
