The Imperial officer's eyes widen as a fist-sized piece of ordinance twirls up into the air. He instinctively raises his hands to shield himself. Had his instinct been to duck, he would probably have been protected by the cockpit armour. The AT-ST's armour, light by warmachine standards, is sufficient to deflect small-arms fire at least. The Imperial officer's body was pierced by a dozen shards of high-velocity metal. He slumps over.

Anders prepped another grenade and aimed for the still open hatch. He leaned out and with a toss he send the orb arcing over the top of the walker, it hit the now dead officer on the shoulder and then clipped the edge of the hatch before tipping into the machine.

A dull "whoof" sound engulfs the imperial vehicle sending hatches outward slightly from the over pressure. Anders gives an arm pump as he runs from under the vehicle back into the foliage.

Anders Flown rolled 3 successes using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 2a 3p 1D 1C 1S 1b.

Well never Sithing mind, then.

The grenade bounces off the lidlike cover of the AT-ST, still open after the death of the officer. It falls inside the cockpit and detonates. Smoke and shards fly up out of the small aperture, but most of the explosion is contained within. The AT-ST pauses in an awkward mid-step, its guns tracking something. The head slowly rotates until it reaches ninety degrees from the central axis, then stops. You hear the gears of the walker whining in protest as they struggle to rotate the cockpit further.

The prisoners gape as they slowly walk over to the disabled Scout Walker. " I can't believe you did that," one says in a soft voice.

"What are we going to do now? We can't go back. They'll blame us for this." One prisoner says to the other. He looks more frightened now then when he was being threatened by the Scout Walker.

After Zeic rolls away he turns around thankful his team managed to take out the walker before he became fried flesh.  Recovering his senses he takes up a watch position hoping there are more charming members than he to calm down the escapees.

The prisoners turn to speak to you. The human male leads the conversation.

"We should probably level with you. We weren't actually intending to escape today. Lieutenant Zem had the right of it when he said we couldn't have gone unnoticed. We and a few other prisoners were supposed to scout out the swamp, looking for escape routes and hiding places. That would be a distraction for the Boss to steal some stuff we would need for a real escape." He looks at the AT-ST, smoke rising from its canopy. "But I figure that plan's wrecked now."

After a chance to look the AT-ST over, you conclude that it isn't totally wrecked. Aside from the dead body splattered across the pilot's station, the instruments are damaged by the shrapnel. With sufficient skill, some of the consoles and instruments could be cannibalized to replace the damaged ones. Some of the simpler functions could be sliced to work through a datapad.

Anders takes a look in the cockpit and helps removes the bits of the pilot and the Lieutenants body. He gives them both a check for anything of interest before hiding them in the under growth.

Asking the rest of the team "So we are still on with the same plan ?" He turns and asks the prisoners a couple of questions as well. "So what happens once you are caught ? What gate do you use, does the walker go back to the vehicle park ?"

The Imperial officers have blaster pistols and not much else. Their uniforms are too badly damaged to be of much use.

"Standard policy is to lock us in solitary for a few days, then hard labour with short rations for awhile. Nothing we haven't lived with before. They'll bring us back to the prison dormatory, then walk the walker back to the vehicle pens."

"Oh." The prisoners look at each other. "But now what do we do? They'll assume we were involved in killing those officers. We're in trouble, either with the guards for obvious reasons or our gang for making the guards angry. We don't have any food or weapons to stay alive out here on our own." They have either forgotten or ignored your offer to take the Imperial soldiers' blaster pistols.

Forim nods at the report of the walker and says "We don't really need to wait. We have no timeline to meet, so we could start the plan now.  No need to go park this bad boy, unless that gets us into the yard to steal a bunch on mass"

He looks to the prisoners "How could we get into contact with your gang leader?  What can you tell us about hte layout and routine of the prison. When was he planning on doing his breakout - we can dovetail our plan with his to help give both a better chance of success."

The prisoners look bewildered at all this. They keep looking around at at each other, as if expecting answers to present themselves.

"If we show up again and the Imps connect us to this," the human, MacNuggle, says slowly as he points to the defeated walker, "We're probably dead."

"Our leader doesn't let us in on all the details, in case one of us turns out to be an informant. She says she likes to keep the plan fluid, in case things change suddenly. For about half a Standard year, she's been asking for reports on guard activity. For the last month or so, we've been gathering food and supplies. This week we started scouting for escape routes. We're the first to get this far," says the petrusian, Veshra, proudly.

"I guess the first step is getting us back to the prison dorms before anyone notices that these guards were killed. We'll say we realized it was dumb to run. Maybe we'll get away with it. Then we can tell the Boss to meet you somewhere."

How much of the plan do you know?  How could one of us get in contact with the boss?"

"As near as we can tell, the plan is this: We're going to gather up whatever supplies we can, then make our way into the forest up this ridge." MacNuggle jerks his thumb towards the ridge. "I don't know what the plan is after that."

"We heard through the bean-vine that the Empire is retrofitting all its blaster weapons with identity-readers, so that only the right person could use them. For some reason that got the boss really excited," adds Veshra.

"If the boss wanted to, she could slip out of the dorm at night for a quick meeting. It's not too risky if it's quick. Or, here's a thought, we could smuggle a few of you into the camp. You could get the lay of the land, see how we do things." MacNuggle begins nodding at his own idea, as if captivated by it.

Zeic is having trouble coming up with a good plan here so for the moment he stands mostly silent and listens and maybe something will come up. But he adds, "I am not sure if this is the best plan or not but we better be sure they don't know we are coming. How long before these guys would have to check in?"

"I don't know," says Veshra, speaking for both of them. "They might have reported catching up with us, or they might not have gotten around to it. Either way, who can say how long it'll be before they are expected to call in again?"
