Mission 1: Yellow Zinc

A star system is a big place. With the ability to travel through hyperspace, one tends to think about space on a much larger scale. However, even within the orbit of a single star, perhaps only a few light hours across, there is a large amount of empty space.

The Mirial system was far from important in many ways. It is off the Hydian Way, far enough that traders bypass it. Ships bound for its inhabited planets tend to arrive close to the star, in astronomical terms. The outskirts of the system see little traffic.

There is a ring of asteroids drifting in relative serenity around the system. The stones range from microscopic to near-planetary, but they are all airless and uninhabited. No one goes near them except en route somewhere else.

Today the belt has more visitors than usual. Eight starfighters and a freighter are resting on a large asteroid as it hurtles through space. The fighters are X-wings marked with the red symbol of the Rebel Alliance. They are speaking via tight-band radio comms, and only infrequently.

The newly-gathered Beta team is aboard a scavenged light freighter. The Rebel engineers have repaired it to flight-worthy status, if not much past that. They have added guns and shields to make it serviceable in combat, although it's no gunship. The mission requires a cargo bay, however, so you're stuck with it.

A tight-beam transmission comes from Red squadron leader. It's a recorded message, which you play.

"Team, we're expecting the first target to enter the system any minute now. Let's make sure we're all on the same page.

"The Empire and the Corporate Sector Authority are going to be using this system to conduct an exchange. The Rebel Alliance needs supplies, and putting strain on the relationship between the CSA and the Empire is a bonus.

"We don't know who's going to arrive first. Whoever it is, the same plan applies. Red Squadron and the freighter engage fighter escorts and disable at least one transport vessel. We'll leave choice of targets to you, but decide quickly. Once we've established Space Superiority, the next phase of the plan begins.

"Red squadron will keep the area secure and eliminate any additional hostiles. The freighter will dock with the disabled vessel. The crew will go aboard with a view to Resource Acquisition. Likely there will be more cargo than we can take, so you'll have to use your judgement once you're on board.

"Those are the primary objectives for the boarding party. There are additional secondary objectives to pursue at your discretion."

At this point a holo appears.

Mission Objectives:

Primary:
Space Superiority: Destroy or Disable all military vessels. Disable at least one cargo transport vessel.
Resource Acquisition: Enter the disabled cargo transport vessel. Transfer the most valuable cargo onto the smuggler freighter.
Secondary:
Combat Victory: Subdue the crew and any security.
Intelligence: Do a rip-slice of the ship’s computer
Personnel: No fatalities or injuries that result in time lost for recuperation.
Political Support: Leave distinctive Rebel markings on the vessel. Use the ship’s communications systems to broadcast a pre-recorded message to the system.
Tech-Procurement: Secure any prototype technology or blueprints
Support: Fulfill as many objectives as possible.

"We're going to try to wrap this up as quickly as possible, before the other party to the trade gets here. If they arrive before we're ready to leave, we'll hold them off until the ship is loaded. Then we make for the system's edge, and jump to hyperspace.  Aim for the pre-arranged rendezvous."

If Red Leader is right, you have a few minutes to make any final preparations.

Mission 1: Yellow Zinc

Jess drew a shuddering breath of anxiety and double checked that her blasters were both fully charged and in working order. She snugged the black leather jacket tight, lined with synthetic meshes it was the closest thing to armour she had. The heavy blaster slapped against her hip, its much smaller counterpart was tucked into a fold in her boot, concealed but if needed she could have it out handily. She hoped that the traders were the first to show up and any hired mercenaries valued their lives more than a handful of credits....

Zakharo checked his rifle over again. There wasn´t much to do while the freighter was enroute to their hopefully soon-to-be disabled ship. He was excited and anxious at the same time like every time he´d been sent on a mission. But that only made him feel alive. He waited at the entrance/exit to where the freighter would be docking with the enemy vessel. He would probably be one of the first to enter the vessel so he checked his rifle for the fourth time in 20 minutes. 'Scope clean and calibrated. Power pack at full charge. Stock extended and locked. Safety is on so remember it when the time comes.' Zakharo thought to himself. He had also had a vibrosword for close combat but the last mission completely destroyed it so now he only had a combat knife that a friend lend him. But that was better than nothing.

Zev was in his element behind the controls of the freighter. He rather be in one of those gorgeous X-wings, but he’s a team player so as long as their thwarting the Empire’s plans, he was more than happy to do his part. The freighter was a little persnickety, but he was handling it alright for now. He checked out the ship’s scanners again, hoping to be the first to catch their arrival in system.

Zev wasn’t too sure about name of this freighter. “The Siren’s Call” seemed to be a little ominous for the task at hand...

In the copilot's seat of the frieghter, Seku shifts back and forth in an attempt to make the chair spin. The chair wasn't designed to spin however, so it just rocks back and forth a little as the Twi'lek moves her weight on it. It isn't entirely clear that the chair is supposed to rock as much as it does, but the freighter isn't in the best shape so maybe that's to be expected.

Seku is wearing a nondescript leather jacket over a loose shirt, a pair of durable pants, and combat boots. The jacket has epaulets that give it a vaguely naval aesthetic. Combined with the bright red sash she has tied about her waist, she thinks she looks the part of the dashing pirate which is in keeping with today's mission. There are no obvious weapons on her person although she did briefly toy with the idea of trying to borrow a vibrosword from someone in order to really pull the whole look together.

With a sigh, she looks over at the Duros pilot: Zev Barris. There was enough time to get to know everyone on this new team at a cursory level while the engineers fixed up the freighter and in the time they've been parked out on this rock waiting for their prey to arrive, but she still doesn't feel like she knows any of her teammates. "So just as a disclaimer, I'm not exactly much of a pilot. I'm mostly sitting up here to operate the comms once we've disabled the ship. If you need me to do anything else, feel free to... uh, point it out." She smiles at the Duros before twisting her head around to take a look into the back of the ship and the others.

"Oh I whole heartedly agree. Mission success without firing a shot and never in the crosshairs of the target is always optimal." he replies seriously. "Sadly, this is not one of those opportunities where everyone is looking at a holonovel or sleeping on duty. This is one of those missions where we hit them hard and hit them fast and hopefully they won't know what hit them."

In the cockpit, a console beeps loudly. The long-range sensors have detected a ship dropping out of hyperspace. Further details may be available pending a careful reading of the input.

The comm crackles. "Red Squadron, freighter team, that's our cue. One of the parties has arrived for the trade, so we're going in. All craft, lift off and form up. We'll conduct a microjump to get closer. Then the Show will start. Make the first shots count, while we have the advantage of surprise."

The X-Wings all around you trigger their repulsorlift engines to pop off the asteroid with minimal ion signature. They begin to form up. Low-level comm bursts occur as the astromechs coordinate Astrogation calculations.

Perception 2D to gain more information regarding the sensor contacts.
Astrogation 1C. F3-3T can use the other astromech's communication to gain 1B.

Mission 1: Yellow Zinc

Your ship follows Red Squad into hyperspace, emerging one second later halfway across the star system. Your ship is actually a little past the enemy ships, facing the wrong way. A quick turn is necessary and will cost you precious seconds of surprise.

Pilot roll Cool. 1s for threats from Astrogation result.

Now that you are closer, you can see the vessels more clearly. The smaller vessel is little more than a frame with engines. Attached to it are a half Squadron starfighters. They are currently detaching from the hyperspace jump frame that they use to get here. They are Authority IRD (Intercept, Reconnaissance, Defence) fighters.

The transport is a larger vessel, about three hundred metres across. It resembles a large disc with bulbous spheres around the circumference. The bridge appears to be a cone pointed out from the opposite side from the engine pods.

Red Leader begins broadcasting a command to surrender even as the Authority transport begins sending a demand to vacate the space. When the IRDs, already detaching, begin sending their own surrender demand to the Rebels, comm space gets very noisy.

It seems that there will be a fight. Red Squadron split their s-foils as the IRDs detatch and form up. You can see turrets on the transport moving as well.

"Beta team, we are engaging the fighters," reports Red 2.

Please indicate which station you are at in the ship. First combat action.

The IRDs and Red Squadron immediately break into a whirling maelstrom of dogfighting starfighters. Lasers flash all around as the two squadrons open fire on one another. One IRD is blown to pieces, and another is disabled. They give nearly as good as they get, however, and one X-Wing is blasted as well.

Meanwhile, Beta team's freighter drifts through the battle. It is comparatively large, though not as large as its target. The enemy transport slowly turns, trying to get both its dorsal and ventral gun turrets aimed at your vessel. The guns open up, filling the space around your ship with yellow-green beams.

No damage. Next gunnery check is at 1s.

Your own guns lance out and strike the transport all over. Some of the bolts are deflected by the enemy's shields, but some strike the hull. The ship shudders, and pieces of the hull plating are blackened.

The battle between the starfighters was bloody. The IRDs were outnumbered now. Red Squadron took advantage of their numbers, forcing the IRDs to choose between two targets. Whichever fighter they ignored would slip behind them and open fire while the other was acting as bait. The X-Wings took some serious punishment, but two more IRDs were destroyed. Now only two remained.

The light freighter, faster than their target, was able to maneuver along the axis of the disc-shaped vessel. This allowed them to use the superstructure of the enemy ship as cover against its own gunners. Meanwhile, their own gunners fired with abandon. The transport was stitched with laser fire all along its circumference. Steam gouted out into space.

The enemy fired back. Some of their shots came close, but F3-3T's supercharge of the shields deflected incoming laser bolts.

Normally taking Evasive Maneuvers would mean increasing the difficulty of all Gunnery checks, but as long as the enemy does not Gain the Advantage you do not suffer the penalties.

"Zeep. ZeepO...." F3-3T gave an aye aye to Seku about bringing the coms back online. The split second the astromech stuck his jack into the port he was blasted by a bolt of electricity. Some nerf herder had switched the positive negative wires on the comms relay and F3-3T was now paying the consequences.

The lights flickered in the freighter hull. When they came back on F3-3T did a quick scan and noticed the general systems operation was boosted by 23 percent. "Dink. Zappo. Glunk." F3-3T protested in anger, even with the slight boost to the overall power of the ship, he still he had failed his duty. The angry droid picked up his rotor wheel and kicked the comms relay panel for good measure.

As sparks fly and F3 protests, Seku searches the maze of buttons in front of her with no success for the reset on the comms array. She does find the ship intercom however, which she flips on to page the gunners. "Attention gunnery stations, we're having some technical difficulties with our comms equipment up here. Please feel free to continue to shoot the enemy ship, but remember that we need to take the cargo intact."

With a few well-placed laser pulses, the enemy transport's engines go down. They keep flickering as power is directed to them, but it seems that the energy is not creating a stable ion drive. It's fairly quick to recalibrate, but for the moment the engines are ineffective. The transport drifts.

The comm crackles to life in response to your prodding. "This is Captain Valis Landal of the CSA ship 188 Theata. We do not negotiate with pirates."

Cued by her words, the enemy's guns return fire. One of the shots wings your vessel, causing minor damage.

6 Damage, presoak

The X-Wings and the IRDs are in a real slugging match now. Though only three IRDs remain, they form up in a V and tear through Red Squadron's formation. Shots are exchanged, with lasers slamming into several craft. One IRD is left derelict, leaving only two.

With the comms reactivated, Seku shoots a broad grin at Zev as she rather dramatically hits the button to reopen the channel with the CSA ship. "Attention Captain Landal, it is very convenient for you then that we aren't pirates, but members of the Rebel Alliance. You might even say it is fortunate for you, since losing some of you cargo and incurring damages from forces in open rebellion against the Empire will make the Empire responsible for the losses per the terms of your standard insurance arrangement. You are under no obligation to lose your lives in defense of a portion of your cargo, so I suggest that you stand down, allow us to board, retrieve what we're here for, leave a message which will make very clear for the Empire exactly who is responsible, and be on our way." As she speaks, Seku reclines in her seat and rests a hand behind her head in a picture of collected confidence.

F3-3T considers what he knows of the IRD fighters. Apparently they have an excellent pilot ejection system. There is some probability that some of the pilots of the destroyed starfighters are still alive, extra-vehicular in space. F3-3T tries to calculate the probability based on what he has seen, but too many variables make his calculations unreliable.

There is a pause, a long pause, of nearly a minute. During this time the transports' guns are still, but the starfighter battle goes on. Indeed, another IRD and another X-Wing are destroyed during the deliberation.

The comm crackles to life again.

"Rebel forces... call off your starfighters, and we will do the same. We will discuss further terms once our pilots are safe."

After you call Red Leader and inform him of this priority requirement, he immediately orders his squad to hold fire. The X-Wings bank and re-form, allowing the IRDs to withdraw. They pull back to take position above the transport.

The comm chimes again, and the transport captain speaks.

"Rebels, as delegated master of this vessel I am prepared to offer you the opportunity to board with no more than three people. You will be allowed to tour our ship under guard by CSA Security Police. We will extend a reasonable credit, which you will use to select goods of equal or lesser value. These goods will be exchanged to you in consideration of your cessation of further hostilities."

Your pilot brings the light freighter close to the transport's docking clamp on their port side. Your ship's own docking port is on the port side as well, so the two ships are upside-down relative to each other. There is a small amount of zero-G between the two. It's effortless for F3-3T, because astromechs are built for zero-G movement, but everyone else has to make a jarring leap from the floor to the ceiling.

You enter a large, round room. The deck is plated metal. The walls are round, concave structures that form a dome all around you. Girders add to the stability, with cables and pipes visible behind them. The ceiling is about seven meters above you. The room is fairly dark, with only red emergency lighting illuminating you. In the shadows you can make out scattered piles of crates. The crates are forest green plasteel, about a meter across. There are exits into rounded hallways to the north and south of your position. The hallways are brightly lit, unlike this large, shadowy room.

You can hear shuffling and hissed words in the room. Your hands reach for weapons and you begin to look for cover... and threats. Suddenly you hear a voice shouting:

"Now! Let them have it!"

A half-dozen people pop up from behind the piled crates. They are roughly surrounding you in a circle about ten meters wide. The enemy are wearing riot armour and holding blaster carbines. In the centre of their formation is a human woman wearing riot armour with sergeant's stripes. She shouts again.

"Kill the pirates! A bonus for anyone who gets a headshot!"

Everyone roll Vigilance and make your first combat turn.

Seku takes cover just as the Espos, the Corporate Sector Authority Security Police, open up with their blasters.

Victor shoots at the sergeant with his rifle. She is struck and forced to lower herself down behind cover. Her men see this and are discouraged somewhat.

Jess shouts something that suggests the Rebels are prepared to sabotage the ship. The Espos rise, panicking slightly, before their leader shouts at them. "It's a bluff, you fools! Stay here and fight!" They have stepped out of cover, but not for long.

Zev suppresses the Espos but doesn't manage to hit anyone.

F3-3T rolls around, ignored as a target, before finding his way to a computer terminal. He plugs in.

The Espos fire at Seku. Their riot guns, heavy carbines built for close-quarters combat, strike her cover and singe her. She is forced to curl up on the ground to avoid being hit harder.
11 Damage pre-soak. Seku is prone and must spend a maneuver to rise.

The sergeant aims her riot gun at Victor. She bellows something about pirates as she fires. Victor hastily withdraws behind his crate, narrowly avoiding being shot. He gets the feeling that the next attack may not miss.

At the same time she takes aim with her blaster and fires a shot back at the Security Officer. It would take some quick programming reflexes to avenge his fallen comrade. The little astromech was designed to fix things not break them so he thought backward. "EpEpEp" It drove his circuit board to the point of snapping but he found something that might divert the enemy if not give his friends the upper hand. That is if any where left before his actions supplied the desired results.

According to ship schematics their was a cooling pipe running above and beside his attackers. Filled to max capacity and beyond the tube would rupture or even better explode if hit with blaster fire. F3-3T sent every bit of extra high compression and super cooled liquid into the old pipes of the enemy ship, in any moment they would explode or at least break spraying the enemy with foam or better yet sub freezing cold vicious liquid that would eat through armor and flesh alike. "Woooza!!!". F3-3T rang out. It was only a matter of time.

His tiny slug thrower arm slid out of the side of his chassis, soon he would fire his first ever bullet in combat, that was a story he could woo his medical droid with....

Suddenly there is a new sound. A creaking, then a loud 'ping' as a rivet pops loose. The Espos glance up uneasily. Some steam hisses out of a pipe that looked innocuous enough a second ago.

"Ignore it!" Shouts the sergeant. "Concentrate fire on the leader!" She aims her blaster at Victor, who she has apparently decided is in charge. She fires, but accomplishes little.
1s to her next attack

One of the Espos is distracted by being shot, but the rest are motivated to follow their leader's orders. They fire a volley at Victor. One of them stumbles into the path of another, trying to get a better shot, and must get back behind cover.

F3-3T is excited when he sees their leader Duros enter the fray. Soon the leader Duros declares a full surrender. F3-3T checks deep into his programming for possible maximizing of proselytization. It would seemed this was a certain tactic of the Hadjic to infiltrate known Sith lords chambers to then try possible assassination against them. "Ohbop!!!". Good thinking Zev! These simple folk would never suspect the Duros was planning to kill them all in their sleep. Zev the leader who would be proud when the hyper cold liquid burst onto the enemy freezing their epidermis to the point of breaking off like paint of poorly constructed plastcrete!

F3-3T watches the cooling pipes with ardent excitement his feet pitter pattering as he rotates his computer jack in ecstatic circles. "Oooosneep." His clear head mount glowing with a warm pinkish hue. The pipe burst and a small amount of steam hisses down on his attackers.

"Zowship" F3-3T grunts in binary kicking at the wall. His circuit boards now focus on areas of the enemy ship that he will send into the void for later retrieval or to terminate enemy lifeforms in the cold airless space of space. "BeeoOp." If the droid had to jettison the entire ship apart in pieces with a mag-coil and wrench so be it....

O.O.C.NOTE:  I didn't shoot yet Jess. And unfortunately I believe the pipe is simply cold air hissing. Lol... I don't believe firing at the pipe will do much. But hey F the ship up, thats what I'm all about.

The blast fire is intensifying. The group has managed to survive for long enough for F3-3T to locate cargo hold and activate emergency jettison procedure. Everything in the ships hold will be spilled out into the void which F3-3T plans to collect at a later time. The problem is after receiving quite a shock from the ships malware stinger he has forgotten exactly why he is on this ship and what it is he was doing. Also for a round he can not remember which side he was on. Also he really can't remember what he activated and deactivated upon the ship for all he knows the air is being released from parts of the ship and all lifeforms will be rendered inactive as soon as oxygen supplies reach critical levels.

F3-3T screams out in dismay as he points his ugly slug thrower from one party to the next. "OOOOWeeeeee". He wishes the Maker would come down and dismantle him for scrap at this point or at least tell him who to shoot.

As she takes her shot from behind cover, the newly created hole in her arm twinges badly forcing her to hiss in pain as she withdraws behind the crate again. Through gritted teeth she appeals to her comrade to rejoin the fight. With her well-placed shot to the over-pressurized pipe, Jess causes a wave of steam to spill forth onto the Espos. Steam is the least of it. A sort of murky goop spills down as well, silvery and sticky. Whenever it touches a man, on armour or bare flesh, he begins screaming and trying to wipe it away. This gets it on his fingers as well, and apparently is cause for even further distress. They scream and struggle, pulling at their gloves or trying to wipe their hands.

The sergeant, by luck and a clever step back, is unharmed. She bellows at her men to get back on the line and fight. "Play with your goop on your own time!" She aims her riot gun at Jess. "Make a mess on my ship, will you?"

Victor shoots her. She is thrown back stumbling by the energy. She trips over a cable and falls hard on the deck. She lies still.

A lot of the heart goes out of the Espos as their leader falls. They aren't shooting as well or holding up as strong against wounds now. Between the hail of blaster fire from Seku and Zev, and the caustic chemicals, two of the Espos are brought down. Four remain. The rest fire in a disorganized way at whomever is closest or most visible.

Zev's cover is torn to pieces by a hail of high-powered blaster fire. He himself is hit by a grazing blow.

The last was trying to stumble back through the corridors when Seku puts a shot into the small of his back.

The team takes a moment or two to recover their equilibrium. They mentally steel themselves for the task ahead. While they have taken the docking bay, the rest of the ship could still be filled with enemies.

Simple (-) Discipline or Cool check. Each Success recovers 1 strain.

Meanwhile, F3-3T continues his subtle conflict with the unseen other presence. He furiously attempts to reveal hidden secrets about the vessels' cargo.

He finds some. Several units of the ship's cargo were not evident on the common manifest, but on the secret full manifest F3-3T sees some interesting bits.

Mixed in with the Glass & Plastics in pod 7 is a cargo crate full of precious metals. In the frozen specialty foodstuffs in pod 4 is a collection of exotic perfumes. Mixed in with the medical supplies in pod 4 is a freezer full of Sebiris, a deadly poison. Finally, much to his frustration, F3-3T finds that there are several units in pod 8 that are simply listed as [Restricted].

His rival has not been idle, however. The Rebels are just preparing to move when the doors to the ship's corridors slam closed. These are blast doors, designed to prevent explosive decompression or the spread of biohazards. In a pinch, they can also prevent boarders from invading further!

"Attention surviving crew of the 199 Theata, this is the rebel boarding party currently on your ship. As a reminder, we have destroyed most of your escort and your surviving pilots are floating out there awaiting rescue. Additionally, we have killed most members of your security team including their commander. Captain Landal, are you listening? I am afraid that we're going to have to amend the terms of our previous arrangement based on recent developments. Here are our terms: you will allow us to take one hundred tons of cargo of our choosing; a meager 5 percent of your cargo. We will be allowed to load said cargo without further interference from your crew and when we are done, you will allow our droid access to the main communications console in order to leave a message for the Empire. In exchange, we will return to you the surviving members of your security team and the bodies of the rest, but only once the transfer of cargo is complete. You will also be allowed, at that point, to retrieve your drifting pilots. If you cannot agree to those terms, we will have choice but to begin blowing holes in your ship and retrieving what we want from the debris." She lets go of the button and stands up.

Looking around at her comrades, she lays out her plan. "Let's move the survivors over by the door back to our ship and tie them up. We'll use them as leverage. I think we should also inform Red Leader of the development." She moves over to the unconscious security guards and grabs one of their arms, but she doesn't have much luck moving him on her own.

F3-3T manages to open the sealed blast doors. He detects a hint of frustration from the enemy slicer, but now the foe has his measure. F3-3T senses that the enemy has their defences fully in place to respond to further slicing from this terminal. He will have to move if he wants to keep the initiative.

All Computer checks using this terminal are 2C 1D from now on.

Fortunately the physical impediments have been cleared. Seku detaches the microphone so that she can continue to use the PA system as they go.

The PA system clicks back on, from some other source. A deep, sonorous voice chimes in. You sense that the male speaking could bellow like thunder, but for the moment he is calm and soothing. The rich bass suggests a cultured individual.

"Good day to you, Rebel boarding party. This is Wrarcore, Detachment Representative for the Corporate Authority. You will be dealing with me during your stay on the ship. I express regret for the violence you endured upon arriving. I think all parties can agree that the counter-boarding party has suffered for their actions."

The polished speech echoes through the corridors. It sounds like corporate double-speak, and as he continues the impression of polished poodoo doesn't get any less smelly.

"I've assumed control over the ship and its cargo, according to the charter of the Corporate Sector in foreign territory. I'm afraid previous agreements are null & void, but we can always use them as a starting point."

Seku, make a Discipline or Cool checks, your choice, at 2C 1D. I will tell you what the results are after you've made it.
If you or someone else wants to respond to Wrarcore, you may use any interaction skill you wish, at 2C 1D.

Meanwhile, over your commlink Red Leader relays an update.

"We're working together to jam up the transport's comms. I've got a fighter outside the jamming, keeping an ear open for local traffic. The Imp detachment at Mirial is asking what's going on. So far we're giving them dead signal, but it's only a matter of time before someone comes over to have a look. Any suggestions?"

The team has the cargo manifest, including some items the CSA tried to keep hidden. They must act quickly to acquire the cargo they want, before the Imperial delegation arrives. They must decide where in the ship to travel first. On the wall, you see a diagram of the ship's sections.

You are in the docking bay. The Main Corridor seems to run around the entire ring of the ship in a big elipse, and provides access to all the pods and nearly all sections. The Crew Quarters is near the Officer Quarters. The Bridge is near the front of the ship. Main Engineering is at the rear, and you must pass through here to get to the Engine Room.

Beeping and twirling his head cone toward the Duros his hands wildly exclaiming something of irritation his beeps and squabbles sounding like a caff-grinder gone mad. "GrkkGrkkZIngZing!!".

He moves toward the locked door and pounds on it. "[Private to group Droidspeak: Computer Terminal in this portion of starship has been shutdown for acess. From the - admittedly minor - accent, Jess is fairly certain that the speaker is a gotal. The horned, furry species is found throughout the galaxy. She cannot think of any way to make that knowledge useful to her at the present time, however.

Jess takes the PA voicecaster from Seku and prepares to speak into it. She marshals her arguments, feeling certain she can make an impression

(Anyone else who wants to try to figure something useful can use Knowledge: Xenology or Core Worlds, difficulty 2D)
What interaction skill did you choose? What would you like to say?

Seku, for her part, finds herself frustrated and emotionally off-balance. For a moment her thoughts drift darkly concerning this corporate representative, who would no doubt have sold his family into slavery for a bent credit. She feels more determined to do some harm to him, perhaps in the way that matters most - costing him money.

Flipping a Light side point to Dark side.
2B to next attempt to influence Wrarcore involving references to him losing materially from this event.

The team gets almost all the way to the bridge, passing by several cargo pods, the crew quarters, and the officers' quarters on the way. You are just reaching the bridge when a blast door slams closed over the bridge access. This could have happened any time in the last ten minutes, but someone waited until you were very close before sealing off the bridge.

F3-3T made happy beeps even though the red alert was blushing, even more so as his story of bravery had literally escalated to a code red. "BeeeepDaBeeep!!", alongside the human exotic dancer F3-3T exclaimed proudly as the door began to open.

With a hum, a whirr, and a hiss, the door slides open. You enter cargo pod 4.

The air in here is cold. Mist swirls around your feet, and your breath generates clouds. The pod is a large dome, similar in dimensions to the first room. However, the walls are completely plated with shiny metal. Tiny skeins of frost have formed here and there.

"This must be one of the low-temperature pods," says Wrarcore, appropos of no-one having gagged him.

There are essentially three types of cargo present here. One is a large durasteel shipping container, the size of a small room. The labels are a complex mess of codes and serial numbers, but it would appear that these are the frozen specialty foodstuffs.

Elsewhere there are a fair number of crates, each about sixty centimeters square. These ones smell faintly of caf beans.

At last there is an area walled off by transparasteel. The only access is a door, also transparasteel, with its own security pad. You can see a variety of boxes, crates, and bags.

Just near the door are several droid docking stations. Inside are four general labour droids of the ASP series.

Jess hears, or perhaps feels, something like a buzz in the air this close to him. She recalls now that gotals' horns are organic sensor cones, capable of detecting electro-magnetic fields. Obviously that is what disturbs him about the presence of droids, and probably explains why he chooses not to use a commlink.

His fur bristles slightly, and he swallows. "Nevertheless, I am not a cargo officer or in security. I know only a few of the security codes, only to the bridge and the officers' quarters."

He ponders. "If you get me to my computer station on the bridge, I could probably search the logs for the vessel and get the cargo access codes."

There is a moment when the security system beeps, but the door does not open, when it seems like things might be going wrong. Then with a little elbow grease, you are able to pull it open. It seems that this door does not work particularly well at low temperatures.

Once you are inside, you are able to find a wide variety of crates, boxes, cylinders, and portable Refrigeration units. These all have different Medical supplies, tools, and equipment. You direct the ASP droids to begin bringing it to the Docking Bay. They're far too stupid and single-minded to question that instruction. However, you do have to redirect them to use the load-lifters, because they initially try to carry the supplies armload-by-armload.

Remembering the information you uncovered from the redacted manifest, you carefully search until you find the unlabelled container. It is a vacuum-sealed container with biohazard warning signs, hardly bigger than a Tatooine hubba gourd. With the twist of a dial the container goes from opaque to transparent, while still being sealed. A dozen glass ampules sit suspended in colloid.

A thick sheaf of paper is attached to the side of the container. It is a scientific summary of "Compound NC-17." Although written in Basic, the language is so obtuse that it is hard to make out any useful information.

Medicine 2D or Education 1D. threats represent extra time taken to read it.

Soon a large amount of medical supplies will be put aboard your ship. It will take some time for the ASPs to finish their work, so the team has more time to explore the ship and choose other goods to confiscate.

The compound is a new one, according to the document. You have not heard of it before, at least under this name.

The first section is a high - level summary of the test results. The substance was tested thoroughly, and found to have no known medical function. It is toxic when injected, especially to the brain or blood. It is a neurotoxin, causing death to the brain of most species. It is substantially less effective when injested or inhaled, but in a high concentration it can also be poisonous.

If injected to the heart, brain, or spine, death will occur in a minute or less. The first sign is a severe, painful seizure, followed by respiratory failure. It is believed that the subjects experience hallucinations prior to this, but the data was inconclusive.

According to the data, the amount you have here is sufficient to kill a few dozen people if used correctly. You are slightly sickened to see that more than a hundred sentients were killed to test NC-17.

Seku's nose wrinkles in disgust as she reads through the notes. "Personally, I think it sounds like it would be the perfect thing to inject into the neck of an Imperial functionary. Maybe one who signed off on a program to kill hundreds of people to test a neurotoxin." Her tone is bitter as she turns the dial to make the container opaque again and tucks it under her arm.

Straightening up, she marches for the exit to the cargo pod; weaving her way through the loader droids as she does. "I think the droids have loading the medicine handled. Let's see if we can find the cargo pod that has those weapons in it. It's probably at least worth taking a look at what's in there don't you think?" This report appears to have been generated by the Corporate Sector rather than the Empire. Apparently they were experimenting with the drug for medical purposes, couldn't find one, and moved on to testing it as a poison.

Victor is looking over the containers of caf, trying to decide which one to open. He sees a detail that catches his eye. One of the containers has a symbol carved into it. Plenty of boxes have scratches, but this one is so deliberate that it gives him pause. He opens it, finding that it was not sealed. It is empty - of caf. Inside is a note written on a small piece of flimsy.

Vials were not stowed properly - one was broken. Stored in my quarters until touchdown.

Victor looks inside carefully and sees a small amount of broken glass. He collects one of the rounded pieces and sees that there is a small amount of soft, glittering dust on it. Spice.

The door pops and slides open without a fuss. You cautiously enter the cargo pod.

The cargo pod is filled with crates, neatly piled and strapped into place with webbing. There are two colours of crates, which are intermingled a little bit but mostly are piled on one side or the other of the cargo pod. The dun colored crates are all the size, about a meter tall and wide, and about a meter and a half long. Although they are all the same size, their labels are very different. Each of them indicates, in addition to a long serial number and some other codes, that they belong to a model of droid.

The other type of crate are matte black, and come in many different sizes. Some are to meters squared, While others are only the length of your forearm. They all have labels, but no intelligible information is provided. It's all codes and serial numbers.

Behind you, out in the hallway, you hear the general labor droids heading back towards pod 4 to collect another round of supplies.

"Affirmative," reply the droids, and turn their load-lifters towards pod 8. At your direction, they pick up the black Munitions crates and begin bringing them towards your ship.

You examine the dun-coloured crates and open a few. Each contains droid parts. It's hard to tell without them being assembled, but they would appear to be a small variety of general use droids. Some are general labour droids, like the ASPs. Some are construction droids, specialized for a small number of specific tasks. Some are power droids, or mousers. These Droids are, in general, very common and not terribly expensive. However, you do open up one crate and find the head of a 2-1 B Medical Droid staring back at you. Possibly, if you search you could find the parts necessary to assemble a Class 1 or Class 2 Droid.

Victor is taking the shortest route from part 8 back to the officers quarters. This involves walking past the Docking Bay, where your ship is connected to this ship.

When he gets there, he observes something that he wasn't expecting to see. The crates containing medical supplies have been assembled into a semicircular barricade blocking your access to your ship. As you watch, one of the asps slots a hefty crate into place in the wall, and then Wheels around to climb back onto its load lifter. It drives past you, apparently on its way to collect more supplies just as it had been doing.

Victor is taking this all in when he hears electric sparking. On the other side of the semicircular barricade, he hears the distinctive sound of arc welding. He can see flickers and flashes of light reflecting off the walls on that side. Someone over there is welding, but you cannot see them.

F3-3T again has experienced a large lapse in his memory core, the data retrieval shows that he was fully un-operational for a good length of time. When he comes to he hears the lekku headed slave rebel leader call out about the droids found in the blandly colored crates.

It doesn't take F3-3T long to recognize that most are about as useful as Bantha manure on an asteroid but then he stumbles upon the dissembled medical droid and his circuits near fry from excitement. Mission 1: Yellow Zinc

It doesn't take long to collect all necessary parts of the 2-1B droid, a general medicine droid suited to a variety of work. You don't have time to assemble it, but gathering all the parts together in an empty crate isn't so hard.

The enemy droid, currently smoking and immobile, hadn't had the chance to completely seal the cracks in the wall. Pushing through is only a matter of effort, although you don't get done in time for the ASPs to get back with the next collection of confiscated supplies. They begin piling the crates onto the barricade, reinforcing it. This was apparently the last instruction they received and are continuing. You shout at them to stop, then redirect them to put the supplies back on board your ship. They comply with a toneless 'affirmative,' as if contradictory instructions are of no interest to them.

Victor looks the ship up and down. It doesn't look like the little astromech came on board the ship at all, and did not damage the boarding aperture. You are safe to continue.

Red Leader contacts you over the commlink. "Been awhile, Beta Team. Are you almost finished? We have no idea how long it will be until the Empire gets here!"

"Roger that Red Leader. We're loading the loot up right now. just give us a little longer to see if we can track down any special cargo they're hiding." With Jess and Victor having dealt with the astromech that was presumably the ship's engineer droid, Seku helps correct the orders given to the ASP droids before heading back to the weapons cargo pod. As she turns to leave, she shouts back to Jess: "I think the droids will be able to handle things from here. They just got sabotaged a little by that astromech. Come help me find some of this cargo that isn't showing up on the register. I'll bet anything that's the really good stuff." She ushers Wrarcore along with her, making sure not to let the Gotal out of her sight.

Seku will help with a group Perception check to find the secret cargo. She can give 3 Cunning to the base pool, or a bonus die if we've got a better skill combo.

F3-3T accidentally triggers an upheaval in the floor he is standing on. The panels begin to separate, releasing a cloud of steam. He is knocked off his wheels by the moving ground, and the rest of you are temporarily blinded.

Out of the floor panels rises a frame of metal and transparasteel the size of a small room. Inside is a small platform on which rests four missile warheads. Beside it is a single large munitions crate.

Meanwhile, Jess is near the ship, helping the droids load cargo. She hears something down the hall, towards the bridge. She listens and hears the sound of many rapid footsteps coming closer.

The special warheads are inside a transparasteel cage the size of a small room. It is not immediately evident how to get them out. The cargo pod is packed with conventional munitions, safely stored in crates. A cunning agent, or a lucky one, might find some grenades or mines.

The ASPs are not programmed for combat and not imaginative enough to figure it out on their own. "Negative," they reply in response to F3-3T's command. Instead, they put down their burdens and move aside. They stand near the wall, patiently watching the action play out.

Jess and Seku take cover from the oncoming enemies. Jess fires her weapon, creating an obstruction for anyone trying to enter the docking bay.

Victor can be wherever he wants.

The 6 espos lead the charge, their tread heavy due to their riot armour and large guns. They stomp around the bend and nearly run into the cordon of sabotaged electrical wiring. They pause in the hallway, framed in the doorway.

Behind them is Captain Valis Landal. She is a human woman wearing a greatcoat and a bandolier, like an old-fashioned pirate. Her hair is swept up and back by a purple bandanna. She is holding a blaster pistol in one hand and a vibrosword in the other. She glances at the sparking wires and the Rebel boarding party.

"Form a staged firing line," she orders. The front two drop to one knee, allowing two more to aim over their heads. Though most of the Espos can fire now, they have no cover for the moment. Meanwhile, Landal aims upward at the sparking wires.

First combat round.

He tries not to snicker by fooling the droids into forming a load lifting suit of armor versus incoming blaster fire. "EEEEEOOW", F3-3T exclaims as he makes a mad scramble trying to locate loose grenades among the crates of unsealed munition.

The enemy captain shoots, not at the Rebels but at the barrier of sparks. Her blaster bolts sever the current and leave the lines dead.

"Now get in there!" She bellows at the Espos. They hurry to comply. The six men enter, rushing towards the line of ASP droids blocking their way. They use their rifles, both as blasters and bludgeons, to smash the unresisting droids to pieces. Now that the firing lane is clear, they all hurry to take cover behind crates and girders. Horrid second act theme music emits from a bugged F3-3T as Seku (The freed Slave Dancer Leader of Alpha Team, no matter what re-programming takes place) takes a critical injury. That and the last ditch effort of his team to win the day have driven the sexually driven astromech to the brink of valor.... He believes, maybe just maybe a Twi'lek like her and a droid programmed like me have a chance at love?

The mad math variable of thought=love=valor, programmed into F3-3T drives his circuits into a mad dash of strain draining panic and efficiency.

F3-3T digs deep into droid jive and whilst finding a handful of wave III remote actived thermal detonators, quickly primes the buggers and hands one to each droid that passes by and instructs them to bring them to the enemy as careful as one would carrying a cup of Bantha Poodoo on the deck of an ISD commanded by Darth Vadar. F3-3T cries out in management rage.... "BingZapBlangDarng...PoodooWang!!!".

The little droids yelp, "Yup, yup. Boom Boom." and F3-3T rolls toward the injured Tw'lek muttering sweet nothings and that it will be alright as he commands his small gang to detonate the enemy if need be. Hopefully to primed thermals will scare the enemy into disarray and F3-3T can disarm them remotely by Hutt-Tooth technology stored in his sweet black chassis.

Meanwhile, F3-3T is very busy. He press-gangs his new militia into serving as his sacrificial brigade, arming them with explosives and giving them their instructions. One after another, the droids begin to march, in their plodding, unhurried pace, towards the Espos.

The Espos see all this. Wide-eyed and with empty guns, they hurry to finish reloading. Then one, and then the rest, all run back down the hallway.

Captain Landal hisses as she witnesses this. Unlike many commanders, she does not order her men to stand and fight when faced with certain death. Instead, she joins them in their hasty retreat. She has time to snap off a shot and destroy one of the droids before she makes it back into the hallway. The enemy are all about thirty meters down the hall now.

Even through the stress of combat, you find a moment to take stock. It looks like the Espos are going to be able to destroy the bomb droids without taking significant casualties, but it will take them time and force them away from the docking bay. This leaves you with a few moments, perhaps a few minutes without interference.

Your ship is partially loaded with a cargo that the Rebels will find useful. You have the deadly poison in your possession, but currently the prototype missile is still locked down. After letting the ASPs take a lot of shots on your behalf, you don't have a labour force to continue the loading work.

Mission 1: Yellow Zinc

The Rebels decide that resistance has gotten too stiff, and it is time to pull out. They get back on board their ship and take stations. The ship is still 'warmed up,' so it's quick work getting it ready for flight. You get the chance to watch the Espos and the Captain return to the docking bay just as the bulkhead slams closed. Faintly, you hear blaster fire before the airlock decompresses and the ship separates.

Red Squadron sees your freighter detatch. They have been waiting eagerly for this moment, because they are concerned about an incoming squadron of fighters from the nearby Imperial base. Red Leader's astromech transmits astrogational information to you, allowing the navigator to quickly calculate a short jump.

Just as you and the fighters are forming up to leave the system, your sensors chime a proximity alert. A Lancer-class frigate comes out of hyperspace only a few light-minutes away from your current position. Then a Carrack-class cruiser, and then a bulk transport arrive in system. The transport immediately begins deploying TIE fighters.

Fortunately, you are already on your way out. With the pull of a lever, your ship leaps into hyperspace.

There is no dedicated medical bay, but Victor is able to use the ship's small cache of medical supplies to stabilize Seku. He doses her with a painkiller and binds his own wounds.

"How are you doing, Seku?" Victor asks worriedly. "You took a nasty bolt there. I've done what I could but you should really take it easy for a few days. And see a real doctor as soon as possible. Doctor´s orders" Victor says with a wink.

Seku's initial response in a low groan followed by a sigh as the injection of painkillers hits. "Oh that hits the spot. I've been shot before, but never it the head. Does it at least look like the scar will give me some roguish charm?" She briefly opens her eyes and grins, but quickly shuts them again as vertigo hits.

"Got it! No bacta for you if you wanna keep that as a scar." he says "You look rogueish enough in those cloths. Almost criminal to have the face match." Victor smirked.
