With the odds against him, he needed a plan of battle, and set to making one at once, regardless of the bugs in front of him.

Solo d6, Overthinker d8, Senses d8, Combat Expert d8, SFX d6.
Carpaccio Howling Red rolled 4,3,8,5,6 using d6,d8,d8,d8,d6 ((4,3,8,5,6)).

So that's a 14, d10 Effect from the SFX.

(OOC: Doom POOL 2d8 - The One Above All rolled 5,7 using d8,d8. Total - 12, Effect Die - d4. Take it.)

The beetles look at you and then chatter amongst themselves for a bit. They then glare at you and begin launching balls of fire.

(OOC: Team, Demon Roaches, Fire Control, Combat Rookie. The One Above All rolled 5,5,7,4,5,1 using d8,d8,d8,d8,d6,d6. Total -12 Effect Die - d8.)

Using his speed and control of the winds, Carpaccio wove a path through the fireballs, directing them to one side and dodging them when he couldn't.  It looked really cool, but it was so easy to tempt fate by getting too close to them...

Reaction:  Solo d6, Hero Wannabe d4, Speed d8, Air Control d8, Combat Expert d8, Battle Plan d10.
1,2,3,8,8,10 using d6,d4,d8,d8,d8,d10 ((1,2,3,8,8,10)).

1 Opportunity, an 18, d8-- easy.

He then charged to attack, howling a battle cry, using the vortex created in his wake to guide the fireballs back to the beetles!

Solo d6, Hero Wannabe d4, Speed d8 Doubled with Heroic Surge d8, Air Control d8, Combat Expert d8, Battle Plan d10.

4,4,2,6,3,4,2 using d6,d4,d8,d8,d8,d8,d10 ((4,4,2,6,3,4,2))

Not so good, but I don't want this to fail, so I'll spend 1 PP to make this a 14, d10 Effect.

(OOC: Team, Demon Roach, Hard Shell, Combat Rookie, The One Above All rolled 7,2,1,6,4,2. Total - 13, Effect Die - d8>)

You manage to smash one of the bugs into the ground. They launch one large ball of fire at you.

(OOC: Team, Demon Roaches, Fire Control, Combat Rookie. The One Above All rolled 8,3,4,2,2,1 using d8,d8,d8,d8,d6,d6. Total - 12, Effect Die - d8. One opportunity.)

Reaction:  Same as last time. 3,4,1,6,7,8 using d6,d4,d8,d8,d8,d10 ((3,4,1,6,7,8)) so a 15, d8 Effect and 1 Opportunity... and another PP...

Carpaccio kept moving, evading the fireball, and watched it impact a tree, producing an explosion-- and then he rode the shockwave of the explosion, charging towards the beetles, axe swinging a deadly blow!

Buying that Opportunity for a d10 Stunt.  Solo d6, Descended from Legends d8, Strength d8, Heroic Surge d8, Axe d6, Crushing Blow d6, Battle Plan d10, Stunt d10 reduced to d8.
5,7,1,5,4,2,8,5 using d6,d8,d8,d8,d6,d6,d8,d10 ((5,7,1,5,4,2,8,5))

And I'll spend another PP to make this a 20, d10 Effect in an effort to end this fast!

(OOC: Buddy, Hard shell, Combat Rookie. The One Above All rolled 2,4,8,6,6 using d6,d6,d8,d6,d6. Total -14, Effect Die - d6.)

Two of the bugs explode.

"Hey, what's going on?" you hear Blacken'd yell as she showed up with Lavender.

The last beetle launches another fireball at you.

(OOC: Solo, Demon roach, Fire Shell, Combat Rookie. The One Above All rolled 4,2,6,4 using d4,d8,d6,d6. Total - 10, Effect Die - d6.)

"Bug attack!" said Carpaccio.  "Back me up here!  Blackn'd, cover my left with booms!  Lavender, try and help me with the fire!"

Cyclonic winds easily deflected the fireball...

Team d10, Descended from Legends d8, Speed d8, Air Control d8, Combat Expert d8, Battle Plan d10.  16 makes this an easy dodge; 1 Opportunity.

...And he charged to attack the remaining beetle, axe held high!

Team d10, Descended from Legends d8, Strength d8, Heroic Surge d8, Weapon d6, Crushing Blow d6, Combat Expert d8, Battle Plan d10=>d8.
10,3,2,5,3,1,7,8 using d10,d8,d8,d8,d6,d6,d8,d8 ((10,3,2,5,3,1,7,8))
So an 18, d10 Effect.

(ooc: Not going to bother rolling. I can't beat that.)

You bring your axe down, cutting the beetle in half.

"And I missed it?" Blacken'd asked, clearly annoyed.

Lavender looks upset as well.

"I tried calling for help!" protested Carpaccio.  "This is the second time I've been attacked by bugs like this.  They keep turning up where food or crops are growing, too.  I don't think I like that part."
