The Land & it's Peoples

Surrounded by mountains, all but impassable on the West, North and East sides, the rest of the island to the South is picturesque with the lower parts of the mountains surrounded by trees which leads down to the undulating meadows and the outlying villages, ending as the river does, at the town by the small estuary.

Little is known of the mountains other than they cover over three quarters of the large island, which takes a week to sail around with a good and favourable wind.

It was believed that there was land out into the ocean behind the mountains, the opposite side of the island to the towns, but that was rumour.

From the lower mountains had come the little people, Dwarves, Gnomes and from the tree line, the mysterious Elven people, a head taller than Dwarves, a head shorter than Humans.

Humans make up a quarter of the population, half of which live in and around the main town, known as Glanrald, population of about 8000 (6500 Humans, 1200 Gnomes, 275 Dwarves, 25 Elves), the second biggest being Glanforal with a population of 4000 (3200 Humans, 750 Gnomes and 50 Dwarves).  The towns are a weeks hard walk apart, the smaller being 3 days walk from the mountains at the far end of the meadows and a small lake which feeds the main river.

Next are the Dwarves whom have reign over the mountain edges, they build within the belly of them rather than on or over the top of them.  These live in clans.  There are four clans, each produce sufficient materials for themselves and a surplus of one item; Stone, Metal, Crystals, Ale, crafted goods.  They trade these for food stuffs.

Then the Gnomes, who blend well with the Humans and Dwarves, they were the first to introduce the Elves to the Humans (or Glanwarans as the Humans are known). These live in Families scattered around the foothills of the mountains below the tree line.  They are completely self sufficient but enjoy the trading and making others smile.  Supply honey, fruits, small amounts of granite, crafted woods and wine.

The Elves, no one knows how many there are of these but they seem far less numerous.  They mainly occupy the tree line and some of the wooded areas around the meadows.  They seldom show themselves but when they do, they are aloof and appear to be gathering information and seeing how the Glanwarans are doing.  They supply game meats, hides, different woods, crafted goods.

The Land & it's Peoples

Although there are boats and ships, there are no ocean going ships. Small islands around but no lands known (unless you come from one, discuss with GM)
