A simple classroom with marble tiled floor, granite walls, and obsidean ceiling with a gemstone chandelier as the light source. On each desk is a different kind of rock or gem, or crystal every day. Geno's desk is always extremely neat. His title-to-be-called is Mineral.

Shiro slowly stepped into the neat classroom, his head tilted downward so no one could see into his eyes. Despite his downward glare, Shiro was able to look around the entire room, noticing every single rock/gem or whatever they were on each individual desk. A long time again, Shiro would have nicked a few to trade for food, but he didn't do that anymore. Shiro didn't take a seat, he waited for the teacher to enter.

OOC: Are you already in the room Geno? Because if so I can edit my post accordingly.

Just as Shiro enters the room, Geno begins to enter through the door behind his desk. He remains silent as he watches the mopey looking boy stalk into the room, glaring at the floor and every thing present. When the boy stops and appears to wait for an instruction, Geno nods. "Good morning. My name is mister Kautie. You may call me that, as my Title is rather..." His voice trails. "You may take a seat." His eyes are dull and bored looking, as though the boy's mood made him tired. "Today I am expected to see a demonstration of your ability." His voice is serious and frankly rather dull. His posture is nearly perfect and there is a formal air to him, at least, for now.

When Mr. Kautie spoke, Shiro's head tilted upward ever so slightly; enough to see a glint behind his bangs, but not his eyes altogether. He took one final look around the room, and picked the desk with the most average, plain, dull looking rock in the room. It was just a common igneous rock, nothing special or extravagant. Shiro took his seat, and waited for the teacher to tell him what to do first.

Geno watched every move that the young man made. Well, this will either be a calming experience of a non-rowdy student, or an awkward experience with a silent kid. Well, he does look like the ones that tend to steal my minerals. Will he try it? Wait, isn't this the one that lives here on the island, as requested by the Complete? Cassandra, you better hope this one does not steal my minerals or-! Realizing his thoughts were going dark and angry, and probably his expression too, he snapped out of his mental reality. "My apologies, I got a bit lost in thought." His voice comes to slow at the first two words, and nearly two fast by the last two.

Clearing his throat to shake the awkward feeling away, Geno picks up a rather large chunk of obsidian. "Today, I am supposed to see a demonstration of your abilities." Looking intently at the chunk of obsidian in his hand, he is quiet. The obsidian seems unchanging, until it explodes. Before giving Shiro a full chance to react, the chunk comes back together while the pieces are still in mid-air, not a single crumb hitting the floor. Geno almost stroked the obsidian he touched it so fondly, before putting it back on the desk he found it on. "That was pretty simple, really, and I did it to show a surface point of our destructive and creative capabilities." His voice is calm, as if he did nothing between apologizing for his deep thought and placing a volcanic rock on a desk. "But I am sure you knew that, maybe have done that very thing, before you got to this class." He leans back against his desk, looking at where he perceives the boy's eyes to be.

When Geno made the rock explode, Shiro's instant reaction was to shield himself, and so his forearms slapped together in front of his face. It took a moment for the rock to fix itself, as Shiro watched through a peek in between his forearms. He put his arms down, and then nodded, showing he understood. He got up from his seat, and picked up the common igneous rock on his desk. He held it up just as Mr. Kautie did, ready to explode it, but... "I can't..." Shiro said in a very deep, steady, soothing, soft voice. Shiro put his arm down, the rock still in his hand. His eyes were still hidden, as he waited for Mr. Kautie's reaction. He figured he would probably be thrown out of the class, but he just couldn't destroy the rock.

Mr. Kautie didn't know yet, and Shiro wasn't going to say anything, but Shiro doesn't destroy. And if he ever does, it is ultimately to protect life, not to simply destroy. He was afraid he might hurt Mr. Kautie, or maybe he couldn't put it back into its perfect form. He just couldn't destroy a rock for no reason.

All hesitation, suspicion, doubt, and mistrust leaves Geno's face when Shiro speaks, and is then replaced with a bright, supportive smile. "Well then." He says simply, coming over to the desk to pat Shiro's shoulder. "You are probably the first in a long time that understood. We are powerful, we can be destructive, but is not creation more valuable? My boy, you will go far. Just know that there will come a time when you must destroy to create. I am sure you know that." With this he walks back to his original distance at the front of the class. "Alright, show me what you can do." He says patiently, smiling.

Shiro set the igneous rock back down where he found it. With a nod, Shiro expressed that he understood, and that a demonstration was truly necessary. It should also be noted, that Shiro felt much more at ease around Mr. Kautie now, seeing as how he reminded Shiro of his grandpa. Shiro's beginnings at trust was evident by the tilt of his head, which was higher than usual, allowing one to actually see his eyes. But yet, he still didn't look completely straight, being too nervous to do so.

So, Shiro took a few long legged strides toward the wall of the classroom, his hulking figure casting a shadow over the granite walls. "I've never worked with granite before." He said deeply, his ear pressing against the wall, sensing its strength, feeling its durability. After a few moments of Shiro seemingly listening to the wall, and holding his fingertips against it, he must've decided that he couldn't do it, because he pulled away from the wall, and stood simply staring at it.

Then suddenly, Shiro pulled back his muscular arm, ready to strike, and he punched the wall with all his might. His fist dug into the opposing granite, as his arm followed through. His entire arm was submerged in the wall, all the way up to his shoulder. Then, with a slight creaking noise, and a few pebbles falling to the tiled floor, Shiro began pulling his arm out: only, this wasn't his arm, this arm was made out of granite, from fingertip all the way to the top of his shoulder, stopping just before his neck. Shiro had apparently used the granite like armor, encasing his entire arm with it. He curled his fingers into a fist, and stretched them back out to show that no space was left uncovered. It was a little rough however, this was Shiro's first time working with granite, he had only ever used the common rocks up until now.

Shiro held his arm up in front of him, observing his handiwork, the only reminder of which, was a small hole in the wall, where Shiro's fist had went through (rather unfortunate for whatever class was next to his).

His eyebrow raises and he grins. "Well, that is impressive. May I?" He gently lifts Shiro's granite encased fingertips, turning his hand slowly, inspecting the work. Most of the surface is smooth, and he gently smoothes any patches that are not. "Most students don't try this on the first day." He lets go of the young man's arm, and touches his hand to the wall, a small space lies between his palm and the hole in the wall. The granite begins to slide over his arm, his palm slowly sinking into the wall. When he is finished, he removes his arm and presents it for Shiro to see. He smiles gently at the boy, trying to appear inviting.

Shiro nodded to Mr. Kautie, allowing him to observe Shiro's arm. He even smoothed out all the imperfections Shiro had. Then, when Mr. Kautie also used the granite to fortify his arm, Shiro watched with eyes wide, mouth slightly agape, and a feeling of awe sweeping over him. He didn't even have to punch the wall, he just sunk his hand into it. And the wall s granite, that's really hard to do. As Mr. Kautie turned back around to face Shiro and presented his perfect handiwork, Shiro was down on the ground, as one would do when apologizing almost. His head facing the floor, Shiro's deep voice spoke out. "Kauite-sensei, please take me as your apprentice."

It might have seemed a little silly at first, seeing as how Mr. Kautie was already his school teacher, but Shiro was asking for more than that. He was asking to be his full fledged apprentice. No techniques off limits, the strongest techniques that most can't perform, in addition to the simple class room teaching. Shiro lived to protect, and he wanted nothing more than to expand his ability to protect, and he believed Mr. Kautie could help him.

Geno smiles softly and warmly as he kneels down and places his hand on Shiro's shoulder, the cool granite covering on his fingers warming slightly. "Dear boy, I think we would need to talk to the Complete about that. But if you are up for it and we can get permission, I will take you under my wing. If you want, you could come live with me. It is a small space, but it could work." Geno's voice is quiet and almost...fatherly. His eyes shine with new trust and almost hope.

Shiro's vision blurs slightly, before turning black as a flashback plays through his mind...

The silent winds bit at the boy's skin, and chilled him down to the bone. The swing he sat on moaned in protest as he softly swung, the chain slowly freezing over in winter's cold. One by one, soft twinkling tears fell to the ground, soaking into the frozen dirt. The congregation at its end, the crowd dressed in black shuffled out of the grand wooden doors, and dispersed until only one person remained. A tall man around the age of 60, who still had his body of youth, made his way up the steep hill to where the crying boy sat. Sitting in the swing next to the boy, his soothing voice seemed to warm the very air itself. "Rocks are lonely and weak things; but, they find strength in numbers. With one rock, you can build nothing, but with two rocks, you can build a fortress." despite the warmth behind these words, they did nothing to warm the boy's grieving heart. "Shiro. The Fortress. While your father kept me from you, you were given my name. You are the Fortress, Shiro. Fortresses are the structures all stand behind in seek of protection, but a fortress is not strong when it is empty inside. So stand now, Fortress, and cease your tears. I am here. I will always be here. Protect me, fortress. Protect me..." The voice began lowering in volume as it spoke, until it eventually faded completely, and the man blew off like mist with the wind. As it spoke it's final words, the boy stood, wiping his tears with his sleeve. He reached into his coat pocket, and pulled out a necklace. It was a golden coin hung on a golden chain. The mist's final words filled the boy's ears as he put the necklace around his neck, and the coin lay upon his chest...

The necklace Shiro always wore must've came out of his shirt, as it hung pointing towards the ground as Shiro kneeled there. A single tear dropped to the floor, but any evidence of it on his face was already gone when Shiro stood up to his full height, his head not tilted in the slightest. "Hai, Kautie-sensei."

(The flashback was describing Shiro at his grandfather's funeral. Shiro had lost his only living family member, and his only friend. As he sat crying on the swing set, he had thought he heard his grandfather's last words once more. And once again, his grandfather's final words had given him the strength to stand, as they had that terrible day in the alleyway. Mr. Kautie reminds Shiro of his grandfather in many ways, and it was enough to bring up the flashback.)

Geno notices the glint of the coin necklace as it hangs while he watches Shiro, a look of concern on his face for a moment. He watches the tear fall, and stands with Shiro, at the same time, looking into his eyes as equally as Shiro looks into his. "Shall we put the granite back and go see the Complete?" He gives a soft smile, his eyes warm.

Shiro nods, his resolute expression having returned to his face. Shiro went over to the granite wall, and like a key, slid his arm into the hole he had left there. As he pulled his arm back out, he left the granite behind, filling the hole; however, Shiro was not even adept in the way of his element, and the surface was very rough and jagged. After Mr. Kautie had done the same, Shiro would follow him to the Complete.

Geno puts his arm back in the hole he made, moving with the same slow evenness that he did when he took the granite out. He smooths the patch left from Shiro's work, including lifting the granite crumbs off of the floor and putting them back in place. He then leads Shiro back towars the Elemental History class.

Tony found his way to the classroom, only once again fund himself alone. Looking at his watch he mumbled: "There's no way I'm that late...Geno would have been here by now" He was now throughly confused. He decided to sit near the teacher's desk and wait to see if they would show up.
