Chapter 3: Hollow's Last Hope
Fletcher tenses up, then relaxes as he realizes Marek is only giving him a hard time.

Your unrefined humor is quite amusing Mr. Marek. It takes me back to times where my father's gardener and stableman had commentary for my fashion styles, and other things.

In a private location, the gems are divided up so that they are not all in one bag.

Mr. Wang, we know how you like to travel lightly. Would you prefer that we carry some of your gems for you until we are able to convert them to coins?

Chapter 3: Hollow's Last Hope
Marek shuffles in frustration up to the little Tien.  He leans down to him, gently putting a hand on his shoulder.

Mr. Wang.... You have barely said a word in the last two days.  This is your show now!  Let us go find your little trouser monkeys so we,have a chance to make some real money.  Lead on, little friend.

Fletcher is visibly shocked when Wang says that he trusts him.

Well, right then. Let's divide these out and settle up after the gems are sold.

Let us get to work finding, the eh, trouser monkeys?

Eh, no. Would Wang not prefer to ride the pony? He is very tame.

Fletcher goes to the stable to prepare to ride.

Chapter 3: Hollow's Last Hope
Finally settling on a plan, the party gathers their things and head out to Elora's Halfway House.  Even on horseback, it takes them the better part of the afternoon to cross the plain to the edge of the Darkmoon Vale where they've been told the ruins lie.  Long before the forest is visible, old stumps big and small begin to dot the landscape.  It is clear that the forest has been greatly reduced in size in recent years by the greedy lumber barons.  Soon the green wall of the vale begins to rise from the horizon and the grey shadow of Droskar's Crag becomes vaguely visible looming over the forest.

At last the structure appears, a hundred yards from the edge of the Vale the blackened husk of the orphanage lies atop a hill. Charred timbers are strewn among piles of caked ash and the only edifice left standing is a soot-stained stone arch. A small stuffed doll lies below the arch, her face seared off and her patchwork dress spilling dirty stuffing. Beside her, a troop of half-melted tin soldiers stand in formation, their bodies twisted and deformed by the blaze that claimed their owner’s life.  It is clear that the disaster could not have been that long ago.

Chapter 3: Hollow's Last Hope
Not far from the ruin, Fletcher finds the remains of a camp. A large, makeshift tent lies shredded on the ground beside a crude fireplace of flat stones. Signs of a  struggle are everywhere, with broken twigs, crushed foliage, scraps of clothing, and patches of blood on the ground.

Chapter 3: Hollow's Last Hope
Fletcher carefully sifts through the remnants of the tent, looking for any possible clue as to what happened here.

The way this tent looks, I feel like someone was probably attacked by a beast of some sort. It is hard to imagine children surviving an attack like this...
