In reply to The GM (msg # 62):

For a moment Maya's eyes widen at the unexpected question, before quickly being replaced by the same pleasant expression as before.

"Uh, I'm not really sure. I've uh, never been much for school per say."

Maya looks at Motoi, "Nice to meet you by the way"

Motoi nods. "Nice to meet you too, Maya. Yeah, I get that, I'm not really sure what I wanna, and this is technically my second year at college. I'm glad I'm not the only one, even if you've both got an extra year to think about it."

Ray chuckles. "There isn't too much of a rush to figure that out, the school's pretty flexible about that, but if you do want to explore different possible fields of study you should talk to the Mora down at Stardust. She's kind of an unofficial resource to the students. She's been in town for a long time, and when the school started a few years ago she was the first person to start offering jobs for students through the school, and it turns she's incredibly knowledgeable. I worked in her bar my second year and she introduced me to tons of people, and she was really good at listening and talking to me about things like that."

Looking at Motoi, "Yeah, I guess I'll figure it out. I don't really have that much experience, so I'll figure it out as I go"

After listening to Rays advice, Maya looks back, "That sounds pretty useful, thanks!"

After this brief distraction, Maya turns back to Motoi, "Are you ok? your shoulder seems like its in pain"

Rubbing her shoulder and wincing, Motoi gives an awkward laugh. "Heheh, yeah, I- uh, I had a run in with a dog- cat, it was a cat, and it- Yeah, it kinda scratched me?" Suddenly turning bright red, Motoi attempts to avert her gaze from Maya, and begins to look at Ray for help.

"There wa-"

"-Cause I-"

"She wasn't-"

Stopping entirely, the two attempt to regain their composures and end the two-man fumble-fest, but eventually just quiet down.

Maya glances between the two briefly, clearly trying to hide a smile.

"So uh, to get this straight. You were attacked by a cat-dog-cat? Which part scratched you, the cat-dog or the dog? Were you acting in "The homo sapien millipede?"

Maya pauses for a second, and slightly grimaces,

"No offense, sorry'

Re: 2nd Year House Dining Room
Finally resigning to her failure, Motoi looks downward as she rubs her arm.

Ray, having regained his composure, takes a slow breath and replies. "We had an exciting morning. There was a blackout a few hours before you arrived, and during that time we had a run-in with a very strange woman and Motoi got hurt. We didn't want to tell you all about it since we didn't want you to worry, we're hoping to try and keep the incident a bit on the down-low, since no on got too seriously hurt, and the school is liable to make a big pile of red tape, and the news teams around here can be a bit nosey."

As Ray explains, Motoi gives him a look  that says, 'sorry.'

"Ah, uh, I didn't mean to pry, I just wanted to check that people were ok"

Maya looks back at Ray with a slight smile "Don't worry, no one will hear about it, I'll make sure of it. Is our meeting over? Do you mind if the three of us talk in private?"

I turn back and try to look Motoi in the eye, "I'd like to help"

Re: 2nd Year House Dining Room
Ray ponders for a moment before answering. "Unfortunately we really don't have a whole lot more information to tell you. She kind of appeared out of nowhere, and after we got her off Motoi she disappeared. I don't mean in the, she ran away fashion, she very literally disappeared." Looking at everyone present very seriously, Ray sighs and continues. "I feel like everyone here can handle it, that's why I'm telling you what little we know about it. Some of the other students may not handle it as well, so I'll trust all of you can try and keep this quiet. Especially you, Myra."

"Whatever, I can keep a secret, remember that time last year when you-"

"Please don't make me regret this Myra, you may have the radio, but I have the key to your room."

"Point taken."

"Kathryn, Maya, I'm trusting you two in particular, you're the only two in the first-year hall, and quite frankly you two are unknowns to me, but you two strike me as mature, so take that as you will."

Kathryn, who has been quiet the whole, simply nods. "I don't talk all that often anyways."

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
Sun:
"What the thing with the fork? No seriously, that was cra--" Sal stops as it hits him what Cyrus means, Sam's mood beginning to dawn on him.

"--Uhh, I mean, uh, that's a pretty cool robot!" Stumbling to change the subject. "So it's voice activated?"

I choke a snort of laughter, which sounds oddly derisive. "Voice activated? Of course not. In an arena like Wild RoboRally, there's too many voices to even think about that. Nah, she's got a controller. Literally."

Turning, I open the top drawer of the desk and pull out a deep blue DreamCube controller, though there is a small black antenna where the wire should be. I press the Start button, to which a little blue light on the robot responds. The DreamCube start-up jingle is heard, then nothing. "In her current state she can't do much except..." To finish the statement, I press an assortment of buttons simultaneously, and one of the robot's legs lifts, bends, then waves to the people in the room. When it returns to a resting position, I push the start button again and the light goes out.

Maya quietly listens while Ray explains the situation. Once he finishes speaking, she flashes a smile at him, "I know we haven't met before, but you don't have to worry about me". Maya's expression briefly makes it clear with a frown that she knows that she hasn't been told all of the information, before reverting back to her neutral smile.

Maya winks at Ray before dancing back around the table towards Kathryn, "Hey you want to walk back together? No reason to stay here right? We can go play that game you were talking about"

Re: 2nd Year House Dining Room
Staring in fascination as the robot waves, giggling as it comes to a conclusion. "That's really cool, I hope you can get it into the rally too."

Yawning, Kathryn nods. "Yeah, I'm getting a little bit tired, let me go get Anna, she usually doesn't last this long after eating that much without curling up and sleeping…"  Climbing the steps, Kathryn walks up to the open door and looks around briefly before nodding to Sal and Anna. "Hey, I'm kinda tired we're heading back now."

With a sudden expression of realization, Anna pulls out her phone to look at the time and nods. "Yeah, it's almost midnight, you're right." Standing back up, Anna stretches a little bit and gently slides around the others to exit the room. As she makes her way downstairs with Kathryn, She waves back to everyone in the room. "Thanks for showing us your robot, we'll probably be seeing lots of each other in the next week." With that, they head back downstairs and back to the 1st year hall.

I blush a little when Anna praises Elie. I can't believe I got a chance to fix that awful first impression. Maybe... Just maybe...

When Sal and Anna go to leave, I half wave and say, "Yeah, I-I'm sure we'll s-see plenty of--" Ooh, mind went straight to the gutter on that one. I'm unable to finish and watch them go in silence.

Re: 2nd Year House Dining Room
I should have gone with the others...

The dining area cleared faster than I expected, and those who remained kept quiet. And that lasted for a longer while than it seemed. But, suddenly! The odd girl, Myra, began dishing on the local oddities. It's interesting stuff until the conversation falls on Motoi and her earlier injuries. I want to interject but instead cat-dog-cat happens. Followed by truth bits. Followed by the other girls getting ready to leave. Shit, I am way to quiet!
Before the go, I call out, "it was nice meeting you, I'm-"
And they're gone. Dag.

I look back to those who remain around me. "I guess he's okay then," gesturing up towards the tinkerer's room.

Sal heads out with Anna and Kathryn, deciding to go unpack a little more and maybe get some sleep.
"Well, see you later Sam!  Nice to meet you!" he calls back.

When they arrive at the first year hall, Sal turns to the girls, "It was fun hanging out with you guys today!  I think this is gonna be an awesome year, I can just feel it!"

Then, bidding them goodnight, he returns to his room.  Plopping down into his new bed, Sal considers trying to unpack a little more. Before any solid conclusion can be made though, he gets lost in daydreams, and eventually drifts off to sleep.

As the other first years are on their way back to the dorm, Maya realizes she forgot something back at the dining room.

I don't want to leave any variables

Arriving just a minute after leaving, Maya jogs back into the dining room and slows down to move up to the quiet one.

"Sorry I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Maya" she says while leaning forward and smiling. Maya's face is slightly colored, whether from running back or something else is hard to say

01:44, Today: Death rolled 2 using 1d20+1.  (Insight) Do I catch Strength's drift?

I return Cyrus's look with one of utter confusion. I shake my head and turn back to my desk, putting the DreamCube controller away. After a moment, I put my hands down on the desk to steady myself, clearly disturbed my something.

(OOC: At this point, I'm willing to say that every social roll I make is either rounded up to a critical or rounded down to a critical fail. It won't change much.)

As Cyrus leaves my room, I cross to the door, closing and locking it behind him. I exhale deeply, as though I've been holding my breath all day. I slowly walk back to the bed, kicking off my shoes as I go. Plopping down on the bed face-up, I try to process what happened today. Thinking of the last hour, I smile. The expression is fleeting, however, as I think back to the events of earlier.

Wow, it already feels like a bad dream, but... People got hurt, and it could have been worse. God what a crazy first day...

Shaking my head, I prepare for bed and settle in, eventually falling into an uneasy sleep...

"Maya, I'm Rachel. Thanks for saying 'hi'. Hopefully we can get to that part earlier than jesus, is it really almost Midnight next time, huh? Now get outta here, don't wanna keep your dormmate waiting."

I shoo the girl out as everyone else begins to filter out of the room too. Wearied by an all-too-exciting first day I also decide to call it a day. Back down into the lower dungeons at the bottom of Infinity I go, not quite ready for the impending restless night.

Re: 2nd Year House Dining Room
Ray yawns and gets up, stretching his leg as he does. "I've been up forever, so I'm gonna head up too. Myra, Maya, Motoi, Rachel… That's a lot of M names. Anyways, you guys get some rest eventually. Tomorrow is a free day, so I'll be around too if any of you need anything. Oh, and don't worry about the mess, I'll clean it tomorrow morning, just put away anything you don't finish Myra." Waving as he walks up the steps, He walks into his room and closes the door.

Motoi follows Ray's lead and gets up. "I look forward to see you all later, hope we can all hang out soon." WIth that she follows Ray upstairs and retires to her room.

Nodding her head to Rachel, Myra laughs under her breath and returns to eating.
