Completed Projects

Non-Warp FTL 1

The ďColumbus DriveĒ makes use of a variant of the Gellar Field concept, allowing for a violation of relativity and the speed of light within its boundaries.  That being said, this is Not a true Reactionless or Inertialess drive, such techniques are well beyond our current power production and material science.  That being said, it does permit superluminal speeds without risk of Warp Fluctuations, and it actually can be utilized in-system if need be.  Itís not a great idea if you need to go far, but for in-system and local region transportation?  Itís reliability makes it an excellent choice.

FTL Communications

Through study of the Due Diligenceís Communications Array, combined with our own extensive groundwork, we have successfully developed a means of true Faster Than Light communication with sufficient bandwidth to handle elaborate messages, including real time video communication within approximately ten light-hours before the delay starts to become significant.  For all intents and purposes, this permits complete, realtime internal system communications.

For long distance messages, we can establish datalinks with a bandwidth of several megabytes over a fairly significant distance, capable of moving at a speed of roughly 100 light years per day.  Do note, however, that communications beyond this distance remain possible, but could be intercepted by a sufficiently advanced polity.  That being said, doing so is probably beyond the observed abilities of all known actors at this time.


Advanced Material Science

Studies in Imperial Armour and theories we had remaining in the STC Archive have lead to a breakthrough in the studies of matter, and we were able to master the production of a new, advanced alloy that weíre dubbing Adamantium-γ

The chief advantage of the new alloy is that it possesses the heat resistance of Ceramite, while actually being an improvement on the tensile strength of the Beta-variety that weíve been employing up until now.  While itís more expensive to produce and repair by about twenty percent, it has obvious applications for military and industrial use, though I doubt the older alloy is going to fall out of fashion for civilian purposes.

More importantly, itís close enough to the Due Diligenceís own armor plating that External Repairs should now be possible, though we still have a ways to go and several studies ahead before weíll be up to restoring his weapons and internals.


Advanced Stealth Fields

I wasnít quite expecting this to be honest, but when Mr. Cheng came to me one morning with a detailed list of theories and practices to integrate to future warships to allow for stealth on the level of the Eldar vessel that assisted the raidersÖ  Well, I certainly wasnít going to refuse, and after a weekend to hash out a few glitches, Iíve presented refits to all of our current ship designs that permit advanced stealth systems.   Itís significantly harder on maintenance, and building a ship with the proper structures inherent would be somewhat more expensive, but given our position, a squadron of stealth ships has advantages.

Superior Void Shields

This wasnít a maximum priority job for me, so itís nice that we managed to crack this through our studies of the Due Diligence and our work at restoring it.  The new Void Shield design is smaller, cheaper and has a faster recycling rate than the previous generation.  This is good for ships as it lets smaller vessels reduce their tonnage committed to active defenses, and nice for larger vessels as it allows you to fit more generators into the same space, increasing the number of layers possible.  This defense is excellent, but our studies of the Due Diligence suggest thereís one more step to go until weíre a match for the late days of the Federation. Iíve taken the liberty of replacing this entry in the project list with the final generation.

Advanced Psi Awareness

So, the Eldar are cheating little space elves.  All of this time?  Their chief advantages hasnít just been control (Which they do have in spades), or a mature psionic tradition (Which they also possess).  These are all things that can be Learned, but donít actually explain how they got to that point in the first place.  The key secret?  Each one has the equivalent of a microscope glued to their soul that allows them to pick up on micro-scale Warp Interactions, and intuitively translate them into useful data.  They all have this ability, even the ones who arenít active Psions, and itís the key to a great deal of their technology and expertise in the Immaterium.  Thanks to assistance from Lileath (Her irritation makes a lot of sense now that I see what I was doing wrong), Iíve managed to figure out the trick myself, and have put together a curriculum for the Academy to match the ability--hopefully without, you know, needing to wrap a lemon around a brick and bash someoneís brains in like she eventually had to.

Improved Laser Weapons

Thanks to effort from examining the Due Diligenceís weapon arrays, compared with the Freeflightís, we have managed to develop an improved model, providing vastly superior fire rate and damage without significantly increasing the power strain on a standard issue laser weapon.  Weíll be ready to put these into full production at any time.

Deep-Spectrum Sensors

It took us a while, but we finally managed to finish this project.  The Janusís sensor suite was revolutionary when we left, but due to needing it for scouting and survey purposes, we were unable to effectively study it and reproduce the equipment.  Still, through dogged effort and a great deal of time and money, we were able to come up with an equivalent.  This can effectively contest all known stealth technologies when equipped to a dedicated platform, and all future ship construction will have minor improvements to the sensitivity of their instruments.

ďHelldiverĒ Warp Drive

The key lesson learned in the modern day is that there are things living in the Warp, and they are actively out to get you.  Our studies in Psionics however have given us insight in how the natives perceive intruders, and we were able to develop a refinement to our own Warp Technology that is harder to detect from the perspective of a ďNativeĒ, and as such, is less prone to failure and outside interference.  Though still subject to hostile Warp conditions, the speed and accuracy of this drive are significantly greater than the earlier ďGrim” Pattern, and significantly safer to boot.

Graviton Cannons:

This is, in short, a primitive variant of the Due Diligenceís Primary Weapons--the Graviton Cannon is fairly close quarters by the standards of naval warfare, as our containment technologies arenít quite up to Late Federation standards, but we were able to come up with a solid workaround that has approximately half the range and 80% of the power, and approximately the same mass budget.  Itís a good, solid weapon that can do large amounts of damage.

Pallas-series Psionic Devices:

Between my own painstaking labor working from first principles, and research reclaimed from the most ancient, most durable wards ever built by any species, I have successfully completed a battery of advanced psionic defenses, ranging from micro scale amulets and armor linings, to full scale foundational enhancements.  That covers the psionic end--as a side effect, Iíve also developed a line of military tools that have increased effectiveness against aetheric threats--one of which is the Null Shock Grenade (Which, based on tests in the field, are an effective tool to disorient Psykers, as well as damage purely aetheric entities, and can completely shut down complex technology that runs on it).  And the Null Field Generator (Which straight up denies Psionic phenomena in a given radius).

Iíve dubbed this the Pallas Series in aggregate, and they should be proof against all but a direct intervention of a powerful Warp Dweller, and should impair even their abilities.

Advanced Genetic Engineering:

This was a saga long in the making, techniques that were held only by the God-Emperor of Mankind, and Eldar Fleshweavers at the height of their trade.  This level of Biological Engineering permits essentially absolute control over biological life, allowing for pushing the boundaries of flesh and blood to their natural limit.  In theory, at this level, it should be possible to manipulate the Adeptus Astartes project in some ways (Though actually recreating them from scratch would be a Project ofÖ  Considerable difficulty and time, given how itís user-friendly enough that it can be maintained with the skills and equipment that have survived so far).  As well as decode the Novus Genotype, and potentially distribute either of these to our population, when the time and leisure permit either.

Thereís more beyond this though, discovered from samples located in the recent Expedition.  Our newly developed Life Sciences Facility is ready to begin work on bending these greater secrets to the will of ourselves and our allies.


Psi Engineering

Thanks to Arthurís work with Agronaís project helping decipher much of the mathematical foundations of psychoengineering, and my own groundwork in the past few years, we finally--finally have made a breakthrough.

The substance is an alloy consisting of approximately six parts gold, four parts silver, to one parts platinum and carbon of all things.  Smelted together in a crucible locking out all but carefully controlled manifestations of psychic energy.  The process is tremendously wasteful--as we get only one part of the new alloy for every ten thousand parts raw material invested, with the remainder being psychoreactive slag thatís good for little more than evaporation.  But whatís left is every bit the equal of Eldar Wraithbone as a material.  Admittedly, itís purely synthetic rather than organic in nature, which means that it doesnít regenerate--but it makes up for this by being even harder than any other material recorded save for Living Metal, and actually capable of interacting with the Immaterium.

Iíve dubbed the substance Primium.  While weíre a long way from mass production in any significant categories, we should be able to provide enough for some limited prototyping and personal gear even now.


Hyper-Silicate Artificial Intelligence Cores

Arthurís been busy lately, and frankly, anything that reduces my workload is something to be appreciated.  With his hard work and interviews with Due Diligence, Belisarius, and the other local AGIs and the like, we finally have a comprehensive understanding of high-intensity core-computing and stacked architecture.  By all indications, this is the limit of conventional machine-intelligence, with the only known step beyond that the Ion-type that Bell is based off of.  Which weíre probably not going to explore until we figure out what happened to them in the last days of the Federation.  Still, thereís some useful synergies here that are worthy of further exploration.

Advanced Electromagnetic Weapon Theory

Reverse engineering captured Dark Eldar weapons, our own prototypes from the original colony expedition, and further expansion over the years have past...  We've created something of an unspeakable mongrel from an engineering standpoint, but that hasn't stopped us from coming up with some excellent new applications of the traditional ballistic weapon.  At this point, we've miniaturized the ammunition and maximized the barrel velocity to the point where you can get hundreds of shots from a single magazine--or alternately firing a very big shell incredibly quickly in the case of a macrobattery.  That being said, there's several new options that have become available for further expansion of the concept--mostly by increasing the complexity of the payload.  I've updated the index accordingly.

Improved Torpedo Defenses

Torpedoes are excellent naval weapons, permitting a long range attack without putting yourself in any real danger.  The big problem is that they can be intercepted by point defense, and while modern examples aren't exactly paragons of accuracy, you don't need to be a surgeon to get a lucky shot off on a weapon the size of a tank when you're firing tens of thousands of rounds a second.  A combination of reinforced tips and improved evasive protocols should allow a higher degree of damage and resistance to interception.

Dark Matter Production and Applications

We've finally gained the ability to synthethize Dark Matter in industrial quantities.  Its chief applications are its use as fuel for Dark Energy Reactors, but even in its current state, it can make for a remarkably potent explosive in small quantities, which has obvious applications in terms of demolition and weapons design.

Rapid Bioalteration

We can't let the Space Elves get that far ahead of us now, can we?  Joking aside, we now have the ability to perform fairly major genetic and biological modifications in a period of time that would be considered crazy to conventional science before we left.  The most obvious benefits of which would be the ability to assist in regenerating damaged tissue rather than just replacing it, or by stepping down military-grade gene mods for a civilian package at need.  Other possible applications would require specific study, but we're in a good position to proceed further!

Dark Energy Reactors:

In record time and record pacing, we finally have cracked the mysteries of turning Dark Matter into energy!  Thanks to this, power is largely no longer a concern for us, as these are approximately one hundred times more efficient than a plasma reactor of equal mass and fuel budget.  It breaks some previously held laws of thermodynamics, but considering everything else Dark Matter is capable of, this isn't that much of a surprise.  More importantly, now that we can create Dark Energy and have it do largely what we want, whole vistas of high sciences have opened up for us!

Efficient Primium Smelting:

Pay no heed to the hillock of shining white-gold alloy in Warehouse 13, I'm still not going to be repeating that feat anytime soon.  Still, my experience with the tools of an Old One were fruitful, and I was able to record enough useful insights with it to bring our production of Primium from "Insignificant" to "Okay, we're not doing too badly anymore, that's a very good thing".  We've codified several useful patterns--and more importantly, built tools to properly arrange the psi-patterns and fold the alloys more efficiently reducing wastage and getting more useful product out of the same amount of material.

Miniaturized Power Fields:

Baryonic matter can only go so far in terms of resisting harm.  Defensive doctrine then is to reduce the amount of harm that your armor must resist.  Unfortunately, we run into the problem that defensive field technology is typically unreliable and finicky.  Fortunately, these were problems that had been largely solved at some point, and we have managed to reduce the profile of a reinforcement field small enough to be fit to a suit of powered armour.  To a certain extent, this also propagates upward--and while we're still not fitting a Void Shield to anything smaller than a heavy tank, we can deploy other defensive fields on available units as we please.

Early Solar Sails

Solar Sails are strange things, and only a sail in the most abstract of fashions.  They make use of a psi-active lattice to catch light and solar wind.  Which isn't actually enough to move them at the speeds they go at.

Specifically, the trick they make use of is a violation of conservation of mass.  The Solar Sails respond to these stellar phemonena by emitting a telekinetic force from the sails, one far stronger than the light that actually reaches them.  This provides reaction, which propels the ships.  Simple enough, yes?

The bad news of course is that we can't actually make effective use of this in our current vessels.  Oh sure, if we construct a starship with a Primium Circuit and give it a certain awareness, we could still make use of them, but mass production is obviously impractical for our purposes.  More study will be required to address this problem.


Superheavy Alloy Applications

The Imperium of Man likes armor.  It's simple, easy to produce in industrial quantities, and requires no maintenence once committed to action.  It can be intimidating to the layman, and emboldening to their own forces.  To that end, it's little surprise that their application is one of the few areas where their backsliding was kept to a minimum.  Indeed, they've made an art form out of maximizing how much heavy plate they can lash onto an important target without significantly impacting mobility.  Through a committed study of salvaged vessels, reverse-engineering of their Terminator Armour, and our own experiments, we've rediscovered several potent Armour Reinforcement techniques.

Enhanced Teleporter Systems

Studies in our own teleporter arrays have developed several keen insights in how to more reliably employ them.  Including reverse engineering from Orks of all things--say what you will about them being primitive savages, when they get their blood up, their more advanced techniques provide surprising insights into exotic techniques.  The old models were big structures because this is what was necessary to handle the necessary data processing to shield you against the place you were about to get hurled through--while actually making sure you end up where you want to go without being trapped there.  The advanced system allows for deployment of a reciever unit to serve as a fixed point of reference, and in doing so, cuts down on how much power and processing is required to conduct a safe teleportation.  Or, you know, you can use a full scale one with a reciever and get astonishing range.  As long as you're sticking with inanimate goods anyway, or at least using a shielded container to keep people in that can resist the environment for the longer period of time that they'd be exposed to it.  Teleportation hasn't become less dangerous, just more accurate.

Simple Biomaterials

With further study in high life sciences, we've managed to develop ways to organically duplicate several useful materials for industry, capable of replacing simple elements and able to be generated simply by creating the substance and then feeding it energy--which as I have already mentioned, is something we have in abundance.  They're often not quite as hardy as something made out of more traditional metallic elements, but that's an easy tradeoff to make for the purposes of civilian industry, and the ease of producing these compensates for it greatly.  Maybe good for export?  I've got a few ideas about using Hades' next terraforming stage as a testbed to see about finding useful applications in that sense.

Partially-Complete Projects

Armaments

Dark Matter Flechettes (0/95): Our Electromagnetic weapons are roughly as strong as they'll ever get.  But we can still improve the payload by implementing Dark Matter into the shots.  The substance can be primed to detonate on contact with a solid object with an appropriate electrical charge, while remaining inert and safe to handle otherwise.  The tricky part is going to be shaping it into an ammunition block, as well as getting the electrical charge down to 100% reliability.  Lots of fiddly stuff, but getting bolter-level impact with a hundred times the ammunition would give us a distinct advantage--and the theory can easily be scaled up to macroweapons.

Intermediate Laser Weapons (72/90):  Laser weapons are good--the Eldar managed to build their empire off of mastery of these and Plasma after all.  In light however of the existence of Terminator Armour and other similar things that laugh off our Plasma weapons though, having something to shuck them out of their armoured shells seems to be a good idea to me.

Antimatter Warheads (0/90): When you absolutely, positively need every asshole in the room to die, accept no substitutes.  Dark Matter can phase-shift into Antimatter under the right circumstances, and if we can properly control the shift, we can create torpedoes capable of devastating all but the thickest armor plating.  You'd think we'd try to shrink it down, but it's a lot harder to phase-shift Dark Matter than it is to just destabilize it, and the amount neccessary, plus the equipment to cause the effect, sort of limits us to heavy munitions.  Sorry!

Defences

Perfected Void Shields (38/90): Void Shields have never stopped being one of the best forms of active defense mankind has ever devised, and the fact that they were still central to the Due Diligenceís defensive suite proves this.  As far as we can tell, his Castellan Pattern Void Shields provide a considerable boost to overall defensive ability, by allowing a rapid restoration of the shields in the face of heavy fire through use of interlinked secondary generators.  Though the recycle time on the booster is rather high compared to normal shielding, it permits doubling down on defenses against particularly threatening foes, without compromising the standard shielding.

Propulsion

Plasma Drive (73/90): The theories existed when we left, and were evidently eventually brought to fruition before the fall of the Federation.  This is a much hotter plasma drive then our current models that operates through some exotic fuel injection system, and allows for greater power output and delta-v then our current model.  Unfortunately though, the Due Diligenceís primary reactor which provides most of itís output isÖ  Well, beyond us, I donít have the slightest idea how it fucking works.  But this should allow mass production of his engines and secondary reactors, which are still a great improvement.

Communications

Free-Floating Ion Machine Intelligences (8/100.  RESTRICTED): The final step of Machine Intelligences that were developed, and the vast majority of the Rebellion consisted of this classification, with rare exceptions (Such as Belisarius).  Until we fully understand what led to them so universally turning against humanity (Even if we know the excuse they used, the fact remained was that they were willing to accept putting the species in terrible danger rather than attempt to control the phenomena of emergency Psykers.  They shouldnít have been so lock-step unless there was a hidden flaw in their design that was exploited).

Late Federation Computer Systems (76/95): The Federation got Very good with computer technology towards the last few centuries, and most of their systems are far beyond anything we have access to now.  Thanks to the efforts of Arthur and his associates in decoding the Due Diligenceís code, we now have enough of a foundation in this field to try and duplicate what they have access to, provided I can ever free up the researchers and facilities to do a proper job of it anyway.

False Axis Sensors (0/95): We can construct and detect both Dark Matter and Dark Energy, which often functions by pressing against the reverse side of matter to create phenomena seemingly out of nowhere.  That does sound like some kind of stupid space magic, and I'm inclined to agree, given how I can barely wrap my head around it and I have six doctorates for my name.  At any rate, now that we can interact with said False Matter, we can perform what amounts to being sonar pings that can reach the better part of a light-year, which we can translate the returns into a powerful, FTL scan that would only be detectable by the most advanced instruments, and should immediately burn through any but the most powerful stealth and other countermeasures.

Exotics

Advanced Chronotechnology (0/90): I call it Chronotechnology, but it's not actually manipulating time directly, that would be absurd.  However, time and space have a funny relationship with each other, and Dark Energy can tend to skew this relationship further.  Our current most advanced usage are Stasis Fields, but they have the problem of being fields, which means they cover everything within it.  With work, we can likely pull off tricks like slowing relative time inside a tank to give operators more time to think and react to events, or time-locking a shield and making it impervious to all forms of attack, while still being something that can be moved.  Crazy stuff.

Basic Exotic Devices (10/95): We're a long way from the real crazy toys the Necrontyr had at their height, but we've just reached their own technological equivilent of the Bronze Age with our breakthrough in Dark Energy usage.  In short, we have the tools to build the better tools--and if we want to get the best toys, we need to build that next set of tools.  The metaphor ran away from me a bit, but the idea's basically sound, right?

Psionics

Perfect Psi-Defenses (35/100): The Pallas Series and our production of Primium have led to this theoretical idea.  The Eldar have achieved essentially divinity-grade defenses, but itís by pitting raw psychic power against raw psychic power.  Enough to make it troublesome to overcome for anything short of the direct intervention of a Chaos God, but against their direct attention, thereís little that can be done.  We canít do that, but the Pallas Series has interesting applications of null-fields that might let us sidestep the whole business--by using Primium as a bridge from the object being defended, we can theoretically design a system that straight up selectively nullifies all known psychic phenomena that doesnít originate from the one being protected.

Psi-Active Laser Crystals (0/100): The Eldar have the best laser weapons--not because theyíre inherently better at building lasers, but because they can design adaptive optics that magnify the wielderís willpower to improve the energy efficiency.  Integrating Primum into laser weapons should provide a notable improvement in their firepower.

Improved Psi-Engineering (0/110): Much progress has been made, and now that we can produce enough Primium to reliably experiment with, we can develop more effective forging methods.  Things are getting more complicated at this point, but we finally have the facilities to reliably and safely experiment, so I'm eager to see where things go from here!

High Life Sciences

First Principles

Advanced Ablative Armour (0/95):  With the breakthrough of Adamantium-γ, we should be able to be able to replace our own ablative armour designs with ones based off of the new alloy.  Itíll take a great deal of time to pin it down, given the increased energy resistance and cost, but Iím fairly sure any new designs based on this will have vastly increased effective time compared to our current generation.

Basic Self-Reconfiguring Armour (0/100): Studies of the Necron Cruiser we sunk have revealed several interesting tricks that allow them to shrug off most conventional forms of harm--indeed, that's a good portion of why they're so dangerous.  While duplicating this directly is impossible without access to a supply of Living Metal, it may be possible to copy some of the principles they use to realign our own armour plating to better defend against specific forms of attack.

Late Federation Warp Drives (0/95): The Helldiver Pattern is good, but we still donít have any way of effectively enduring hostile Warp Conditions.  The final days of the Federation though evidently were noted for Storms and Rifts becoming more common however, and we have enough of a theoretical basis behind us that we can likely start work at duplicating their own drives.  Combining this with what we already have, we should be able to hit the theoretically optimal Warp Drive design by conventional reckoning.

Advanced Radiation Weapons (10/90): Radiation weapons are scary things--just creating an exotic effect, and having the aftereffects cascade into something bigger than you originally put inside.  We already have a few functional examples of these, but the Federation had picked up a few more in their day, as evident by the Belisarius and Due Diligenceís armaments.  We can likely begin a study of this soon.

Limited Theory (Research currently impossible due to missing prerequisites)

Advanced Exotic Devices (21/100): Due to heavily classified discussions, we have at least a limited understanding of some of the most exotic usages of technology and other forms of matter.  The key is Dark Energy, which can evidently be cracked out of Dark Matter.  In short, we take some of that excess mass that floats around in space (And can be generated, in theory, with the right control), and break it down, causing a huge upsurge in power created--this phenomena provides enormous energy, which makes practical some really, really crazy science.

UPDATE: We have Dark Energy Reactors, but we need the right tools to build the next step of things.  Fortunately, access to this is now in sight!

Translight Drive (10/100): The ĎTranslightí system that late Federation vessels had access to is remarkably potent, capable of covering one thousand light years a day at full burn, enabling local patrols and supply runs to be executed even as the Warp Storms were more common than not.  It still doesnít have a candle on a properly updated Warp Drive, and it requires an enormously powerful reactor to start the reaction, but itís far beyond the Columbus Drive in both practical use (It can be used in tandem with a conventional Warp Drive), and effectiveness (Approximately a hundred times the velocity).

UPDATE: We have the reactors and fuel, but there's some chronotech involved with the Translight, so we'll need a better understanding of those principles to develop this.
