Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
The rush and bustle of this world often caused Talon a bit of anxiety. In just a short period of time, he'd arrived at Sandpoint for the onset of the Swallowtail Festival and now he'd just ridden into town on a gifted horse and was being hailed, along with his new friends - the word still sounded strange to him - as a hero...

He had felt a rush of pride, and had it not been for the humility of his companions, he might well have let an air of haughtiness dwell in his heart. They had accomplished much... had slain foes intent upon the subjugation and death of the innocent townsfolk... had settled a years-old mystery... had discovered long-forgotten, dark places, that could now be truly cleansed.

But in his heart, Talon could not help but feel that he'd barely taken the first steps in a greater journey...

Surely, he had his own driving goals he wished to achieve. Redemption of his family name and the reclamation of his family's lands were always in his thoughts, especially when he held the silvered hilt with its enchanted onyx pommelstone. As he spent time alone thinking on these things, and in his moments of quiet reverie, he was assured that these goals would come to pass, but continued to feel the press of Fate - a lingering gift from Grigore perhaps - upon his heart and mind.

Talon spent some time engaging the learned of Sandpoint about what they'd found and how it fit into the history of the place, especially with respect to ancient Thassilonia of which the elf had a special interest. He escorted folks like Brodert Quink, Headmaster Ilsoari of the Turandarok Academy, the cartographer Veznutt Parooh, and others down into the tunnels below the town and out to Thistletop in order to document and study the findings. Talon devoured the knowledge they were willing to share with him, and he asked of them many questions that, while related, were also of a personal interest that might answer how parts of the weapon he sought had turned up in Sandpoint of all places. Learning and study brought some peace to Talon, making him feel, a little bit at least, as he had before returning to Golarion.

The rest of his time was spent with Param, trying to discover more about the knight that had been captured at Thistletop... and how he might possibly have come into possession of the sword hilt Talon had constantly with him. Getting to know the devout of Sarenrae was interesting, Talon admired the man's commitment to knowledge and his prowess in battle.

Whatever time he found between all of that, he spent in training with his new friends. Sparring with Lan was always exciting, for the other elf was a cat-like mirror of Talon in many ways, but always had cunning tricks and deceptive counters that Talon found challenging. When he practiced with Tanis and Zenfira, it was more structured and less wild. Talon's nimble style needed to be coordinated with the ferociousness of the Shoanti and the calculated attacks of the spear-woman. Talon had also brought Orick on a few occasions, whom he had visited from time to time and had even arranged with the Sheriff to bring out for exercise and some sparring.

Whenever he could coax Allura away from Lan, Talon spent time getting to know her through a never-ending series of questions with regards to the arcane. As his own magic was returning and growing stronger, but with agonizing slowness, he found that her insight was very helpful to him. He carefully listened and would later reflect on her explanations of how magic worked for her and how she could draw upon it and bring it under her will. Of course Talon had spent centuries beyond the Sovyrian Portal studying magic in both theory and practice, but here in this realm he was slowly beginning to realize that there was still much to learn...

~~~
It was at their evening gathering one night that he broached the subject of one again visiting Madame Mvashti with his friends...
"I can't help but feel that there's something more to come from our meeting and friendship. There's a pressure inside my heart, subtle but persistent. When Tanis and Lan return from selling our... discoveries... I think we ought to speak with Madame Mvashti once more. Without Grigore to translate, we may not learn much, but perhaps it will help us at least to be in the right place at the right time..." Talon smiled thinly as he thought of their friend.
Param had found Gaven Deverin after the parade and introduced him to the others. The local brewer offered to tap a special keg in their honor, one of the last batches of brew he’d made with his brother before he’d become one of the many victims of Chopper.
The group was more than happy to oblige and Param was encouraged once more by his new friends and their ability to welcome others so readily. He was notoriously less welcoming but hoped that he would learn from those he now called friends.
Over the next few weeks, he spent time with Talon investigating the knight in hopes of restoring Dawnbringer with his original owner and to help Talon learn more about his new hilt.
He also found time to spar with Tanis, endeavoring to master the ability to fight with the bastard sword he’d claimed as his while still holding firm with his shield. He hadn’t quite mastered it yet, but he worked on it everyday.
He found himself enjoying the time with his allies but feeling a bit restless and spoke often of the open road and setting out to discover what further reaching implications there might be from there assault on the goblin fortress.
Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
The morning after their arrival Tanis was behind the inn practicing when Param walked up, after slipping his ax onto his back. The warrior walked up to the cleric and surprised him with a bare hug that lifted his feet off the ground. Param wise uncle how are you this fine morning
After sitting the startled cleric back on the ground, Tanis holds him by his shoulders at arms length. My ceremony was blessed by the spirits of nature. I was correct when I thought I heard the wind calling you to join our clan. You are now family, blood of my blood not just my friend.
The first week back goes swiftly, and soon the barbarian is beginning to feel caged. So when he finds both Param and Lan in the dinning area of the inn he spins a chair around and sits straddling it. I believe it is time that we set out for Magnimar to sell our goods, and while we are there perhaps purchase a few items. I think perhaps we should all travel together , but if the rest do not wish to go then at least the three of us need to. I'm sure me and you Uncle could safely take our goods there but I have learned that my little brother has skills that would rival any sales man.
Lan nods as he wolfs down some eggs. "Magnimar is where we need to go to get that crown sold and I have contacts there to get things sold at a better price, too. Might even look up an old teacher."
Then it's set in the morning we leave for Magnimar, get with the others and see who all wants to travel Lan. I want to talk to a couple of the locals before we leave tomorrow.   With things set in motion Tanis leaves the Inn to see to his morning business.
Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
With news of the groups deeds spreading through the town, Zenfira took advantage of every moment that she had free to regale tavern patrons with tales of the adventure.  All of the time on the road learning the stories of others and now she finally had a tale of her own to tell, and she was not going to let the opportunity go by.  She might have embellished a few minor details for the sake of a good story, but for the most part the tellings were true.
Nightly, Sandpoints taverns would be filled with tales of Tanis the barbarian, who was bound by a purpose and drive so forceful that the blows from his enemies could not stop him.  Talon, the graceful elf, whose blade and magics dazzled both friend and foe alike.  Lan, ever acrobatic, who would slip easily around his opponents to strike from directions that they were not prepared for.  Allura,the beautiful mistress of magic, whose spells were banes to her enemies and blessings to her friends.  Param, the newcomer, who strode bravely into each battle regardless of their foe.  Shelalu and Grigores actions during the adventure were recalled but Zen chose to focus more of their departure, making it the dramatic end of a chapter.  Orick, well he was mentioned but not in the same vein as her companions.  Of course she added herself into the stories.
Goblin hordes like waves upon the water crashed into the group, threatening to drown them beneath a sea of dog slicers.  Narrow tunnels and passages made the fights all that more difficult, the drama worked up as companions tried to aid allies that they couldn't move past.  Ghostly foes who drained the strength from her companions, threatening to turn them into copies of their foes.  Demons and Sorceresses, whose evil could be felt like an intense heat, stood against the companions, their master plans barely stopped in time.  There was just so much to work with.
Maybe she should approach Cyrdak about writing a play.
It was some time later that Zenfira found herself looking at her reflection in a small mirror.  Stepping back into the life of a townswoman had been easy.  She made sure to practice with her spear with Tanis in the mornings and often times on her own in the evenings.  She would spend some time in prayer, though this was often in the evenings when, mug of ale in hand, she would tell her tales.  It was easy for her to shed the leather and steel of an adventurer and adopt the dress of a woman about town, though she had yet to return to the theatre in any significant roll, preferring to spend her time with her companions.
This had not stopped Aldern Foxglove from visiting her when he was in town.  Zenfira wore the expensive necklace that he had gifted her around her neck, the cameo resting comfortably between the swells of her bosom.  She smiled as her fingers touched the necklace, laughing softly to herself.  Perhaps accepting the necklace had been a mistake but Zen had to admit that she liked Alderns attention.  The man was probably just a fan of her acting but she liked feeling wanted.  It was a little worrying that Aldern had looked a little...worn out..the last time that they had spoken and that was something that she would have to ask him about the next time that they met.
Zenfira took off the necklace and placed it into a small box.  While she liked the jewelry, it was something that should be saved for a special occasion and it would not do for her to be walking around town wearing it.  Making a final adjustment to her dress, Zenfira left her room for the tavern.  Breakfast would not wait.
She was walking down the stairs in time to see Tanis walking out of the Inn.  She paused to admit the mans physique.  Tanis was indeed an impressive specimen of a man, but he stirred up confusing feelings in her.  Tanis had proclaimed his affection for her but that seemed to be about it.  He was very driven, more concerned with the groups quest than with anything else.  Lan and Allura spent time together but Tanis...
Zen sighed softly and finished walking down the stairs.  She pulled up a chair at her companions table and smoothed down the back of her calf length skirt as she sat down.
"Good morning, everyone.  Have I missed anything this morning?"
Allura was stretched out under the covers in the morning. A slight smile on her sleeping face.  Her mask left on the bedside table.
The warmth of the sun eventually woke her and she snuggled closer to Lan.
She was glad to be alive and that Lan and the others were alive. Still she felt bad for Nuallia she would have preferred if they could have brought her back to the light.
A bit of prestiditigation and a warm bath were in order. Then she could have breakfast with the others before they left.
In reply to Zenfira Cazal (msg # 7):
Param had nodded in agreement with Tanis's plans to go to Magnimar. He welcomed the opportunity to return home. He'd let the Shoanti go off and make preparations, all Param really needed to do was see to the saddle and tack of his new horse before he'd be ready to go.
Then Zenfira entered and sat down and Param smiled. "Why yes, you did miss one thing. We've decided, well Tanis, Lan and I, that is, have decided to head to Magnimar to sell the giant crown and any of the other treasure that might need a little outsourcing... Would you care to join us on the journey? Lan will handle the barter. Tanis has protection and I'm just along for the ride, but it would be more enjoyable if you came along."
He paused and said, "I'm sure we'll be recruiting Allura and Talon before too long, so really you don't have much of a choice..."
An hour before breakfast.......
Lan snuggled close to Allura. "My love, I think I'll need to bring some of the heavy items, like that crown, to sell in Magnimar. My family has contacts there. Do you have business here or something to study, or would you like to join me? I think Tanis was interested in travel as well." A momentary funk settles over his features. "Damn, I really liked Tsuto, too. I just wish he'd found someone as wonderful as you, instead of a demon who led him down the wrong path."
"I am truly sorry about your cousin, and I am so sorry about Nuallia. I wonder why she turned to evil ? I am here for you though Lan. My heart is happier knowing your ok. I think I would like to come with you as I may need some things from Magnimar to make some items. Part of me wants to stay and comfort Ameiko too. So if you wish me to come with you I shall." Tanis leaves the Inn and goes to the sheriff's office. Sheriff I have come to ask a favor of you regarding the prisoner Orick. I personally have no love for the man but members of my group gave their word to try and help him if he aided us at Thistle Top. As I see it we Can't prove he did anything except being a sell sword piece of crap. Last time I checked being a piece of dung really isn't some thing a man can be put in prison for. So we can either hold him prisoner for ever here in jail or let him go. Or perhaps make him work for our cause. Kind of like paroling him to us, under the condition that he stay employed by our group until we fell he's learned the error of his ways. With us he'll either learn a lesson or some thing will eat him. We'll be leaving for Magnimar in the morning, if you agree to my proposal I'll pick Orick up in the morning.
After leaving the sheriffs office Tanis goes to see his friend at his store. Hey Vin I'm taking a little trip to Magnimar, and I was wondering if there was anything I could pick up for you while I'm there. I know that things are a little less expansive in the city. I would be willing transport what ever you need back here for you.
Zenfira crossed one leg over the other as she tapped a finger on her cheek, looking thoughtful.  "That sounds like everyone is going then.  It is getting a little slow here in town and my duties with the play seem to be on hold for the moment.  I had better come along and help to keep an eye on everyone.  And who knows, maybe we can find another tale to entertain Sandpoint with."
She paused for a moment to request a little breakfast from one of the serving staff before turning back to Param.  "Speaking of stories, what's yours?  If you don't mind my asking."
Param smiled at Zen’s declaration of boredom. She would like Magnimar more than Sandpoint, that much was obvious.
"My story is one of many dawns broken by a few dark nights. I grew up in the lands between here and Magnimar. When I was nearing manhood, my village was assaulted by giants who decimated the Aasimar, despite our protective wards and defenses. My family and I escaped with our lives and settled in Magnimar. I took up the faith when I came of age and have pledged my life in the battle against those who oppose the dawn.”
He paused and then added, "I came to Sandpoint a few months ago to help rebuild the chapel. I have been staying at the brewery helping out Mr Deverin and trying to ease his grief. Chopper killed his brother..."
Ven, the owner of the general store seems honestly thankful for Tanis offer. He.tells him help will give him a list and supply the cash to obtain a wide variety of stores and says Tanis can use his wagon because the list is pretty great.
------------
The decision to go to Maginmar made...the next morning finds the group on the road .
if theres nothing specific we can just handwave there and back and Lan can add 10% to the value of anything sold.
For some reason I thought the next part of our adventure was in Magnimar. If this is just to sell goods, then yes, let’s handwave. Unless someone feels strongly about RP’ing our downtime? We could also keep RP’ing the downtime at the same time as we move forward just being sure not to introduce any time warps :).
The trip to Maginmar with 2 wagons, Lans and Ven Vinders to obtain items from The city takes 3 days by wagon. Orick seems at home as a guard on the other wagon.
The bigger city looms large and for people like Tanis who've never been in this size city it's amazing and fearful with the shear amount of people present. The shopping goes uneventful and a week later the party heads back with new gear and make their way back to SandPoint.
Lan sells off all excess items and picks up a 10% additional with his contacts. please someone who knows do the calculations on what the party sells. otherwise ill repost the list
Re: Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
The morning they were to leave Tanis rises before the rest and heads to the Sheriffs office first. After collecting Orick and his gear. After leaving the Sheriffs office the warrior stops and turns to face the mercenary, then hands him his back pack sword and a bag holding his armor. As you can see I have done as my party promised you, you are free to return to Magnimar. We are all heading to the city today, and you will be traveling with us. That is not a request and there is no choice in the matter for now you are not welcome in Sandpoint. Your attempt to save my little brother when we faced the crab, Has put me in a very strange position. I do not trust you, nor do I like you. But I can not in good faith see you come to harm for simply selling your sword to an evil force after you tried to render aid to my clan. So I am going to offer you a chance to change your station in life.
After Orick is dressed the warrior continues. Some who sells his sword and fighting ability, to the highest bidder with no thought to how he will be used, is as responsible for the actions he takes as the person ordering him to take them. You say it was work and you have to make a living. In part I agree, So I propose a different sort of work for you. For now you will be a guard on a supply run that I am making for a shop keeper here in Sandpoint. If all goes well this could turn into some thing, but for now your a guard. Tanis takes a pouch with 100 gold pieces in it and tosses it to Orick. This more then covers the time the trip to Sandpoint and back, you take your orders from me.  Our first stop is to pickup a wagon and the team to pull it. Then a list of the goods we are to pick up, and the monies to purchase the goods.
When they pick up the shop keepers wagon Tanis also hooks Lans horses to his wagon and saddles all their mounts. With Tanis driving the lead wagon and Orick following in Lans with the horses tethered behind. They head to Ven's shop for the list and money after picking up both, Tanis and Orick head to the Inn to gather the crew and get on the road.
Riding into Magnimar, was probably the worst experience of the Shoanti's life, the smells crowds, and filth of the big city were an all most physical assault on the warrior. He wanted nothing more then to get what he had came for and get out of the city walls as fast as she possibly could.
Tanis was quick to tell the rest of his group that he was going to purchase a few items then the goods for Sandpoint and return to the livery stable by the gate to wait for them. Tanis feels nothing but distrust for the dwellers of this city and is in a hurry to get back to Sand point.
Re: Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
Back in SandPoint the group turns to individual needs.
Lan begins a training regimen with the stable master learning to use dual shortsword as opposed to his rapier.
Allura and Param work on creating a few circlets to boost their innate ability.
Zenfira helps at the theater
Talon spends quite a few hours at the various places with the learned of SandPoint researching his blade and history.
Tanis helps out at the general store occasionally and with the Sherrif. Orick is virtually Tanis' shadow.
Aldern foxglove comes calling for Zenfira a few times always leaving flowers or trinkets.
Each time he is paler and a little more gaunt. He explains he's been feeling a little sick lately.
He tells her he's been working in.the family estate that he secured the rights too and he needs to travel to Maginmar to gain some material he can't get anywhere else.
He invites Zenfira to visit the family estate as his personal guest. The way he said it though sent shivers up her spine.
Re: Heroes of Sandpoint: Downtime in the interim
After twenty days, Lan emerges as a warrior skilled in twin Short swords, both masterwork. On the 21st day, a merchant from Magnimar comes bearing a magnificent burden. Taking delivery, Lan examines his prize, then goes to meet Allura. Gently handing her a stunning silver ring with a sigil of Desna on it and donning one of his own, Lan asks "Allura, will you agree to be my wife?"
