In reply to Lan (msg # 20):

Param wanted to follow quickly after Tanis but decided to wait and make sure Talon and Zen were coming too. While he waited he dropped a few gold coins at the bar to cover their meal which had been interrupted.

Zenfira had been quiet during the discussion, her thoughts occasionally drifting...elsewheres. At the mention of the Sheriff, she slowly rose from her seat.

"I had heard something about a creature hunting folk to the north of Sandpoint.  It sounded too fantastical to be true but now...I wonder.  Could this be what the sheriff wants to talk to us about?"

She turned to join the others.

Absorbed in both his tome and the conversation with his friends, Talon looked more than a little annoyed to be interrupted. It took a moment for the gravity of the messenger's words to sink in. There had already been too many coincidences in Sandpoint to ignore the fact that just while they were discussing oddities and connections to their recent adventures that the Sheriff would summon them. Talon glanced at Param and nodded toward the door, snapping his book shut and dropping it into his pack.

"I wonder what this is all about," he said quietly to the Aasimar as they exited the Inn. Just before leaving, Talon glanced casually over his shoulder to see if anyone had taken note of their sudden departure.

The Skinsaw Murders: Murder Most Foul
The party makes their way up to the Sheriff's office. When they enter, they See Orick in the office putting on his armor. Several of the militia are present, senior members at least and are talking to Sheriff Belor.

Behind The Shoanti Warrior sitting in a chair was Ibor Thorn. The young man was covered in blood and was staring dejectedly down at his hands which were clasped together in his lap.

The Sherrif took the party to his own private office and began "First, let me thank you again for all you've done for Sandpoint. It's fortunate you've proven yourselves so capable, because we've a problem I think you can help us with-a problem I wish I didn't have to involve anyone with, but one that needs dealing with now before the situation grows worse. "Put simply, we have a murderer in our midst one who, I fear, has only begun his work. Some of you doubtless remember the Late Unpleasantness, how this town nearly tore itself apart in fear as Chopper's slayings went on unanswered. I'm afraid we might have something similar brewing now. " Last night, the murderer struck at the sawmill. There are two victims, and they're ... they're in pretty gruesome shape. The bodies were discovered by one of the mill workers, a man named lbor Thorn, and by the time my men and I arrived on the scene, a crowd of curious gawkers had already sprung up. I've got my men stationed there now, keeping the mill locked down, but the thing that bothers me isn't the fact that we have two dead bodies inside. It's the fact that this is actually the second set of murders we've had in the last few days. " I come to you for help in this matter-my men are good, but they are also green. They were barely able to handle themselves against the goblins, and what we're facing now is an evil far worse than goblins. I need the help. But I'm afraid you'll need the help too. You see, I'm afraid that this particular murderer knows one of you as well."

Param found the entire delivery to be rather cryptic and his thoughts immediately jumped to who the person might be that was murdered.

"Thank you for the warning, but I think we should know as much as we can now. Take us to the scene and the sooner, the better."

Talon listened intently and made mental notes. "A moment Param," he said to the cleric.

"Sheriff, you make it sound like you already know who the murderer is... If that's the case, why don't we just go and arrest him, or her... Unless this relationship to one of us you mentioned is that much of a complicating factor.?"

"And, if you would, tell us of the other murder and why you think the two are related."

There was a growing knot in the pit of the elf's stomach. He had hoped, like many in the community had, that the defeat of Nualia and her ilk, as well as the cleansing of the underground temple, would be the end of woe and worry here in Sandpoint... at least for a while. And he supposed that it had, but a handful of weeks was but a fleeting moment to one so long-lived as the Sovyrian elf.

I agree that we need to see both murder scenes but more importantly we need to know what makes you think the culprit knows one of us, and which one of us do you think knows the person responsible for these actions.

The Skinsaw Murders: Murder Most Foul
Sheriff Belor paused and then said as he pulled out a tattered piece of paper with bloodstains on it and handed it to Zenfira.

No I do not know who is behind it. Nor will I guess. During the Recent Unpleasantness, we thought we knew who did it and arrested a stranger passing through. The town was overjoyed until that night the another life was taken. The Old Sheriff. If I hadnt happened on the scene, the killer would have escaped. I wont make the same mistake as he.

Then he looked at Zenfira who held the note saying. That note was found pinned to the sleeve of the most recent victim by a piece of wood. Personally I think the note was left to throw us off the trail. However there are certain people in town that if they could cast shadows of doubt unto you, he would. As you know Titus Scarnetti is not a fan.

Now onto what I know...First, The most recent murders occurred last night at The Sandpoint Lumber Mill. The Crime Scene is intact and awaiting your presence. We will go there in a  moment first since I want to get the bodies buried soon. . But, before we leave for there...

Ibor Thorn outside in the chair discovered the bodies and came here. I have interrogated him and think he is innocent, however you may want to ask him questions.

My only suspect is Ven Vinder, who runs the general store, as one of his daughters was carrying on with one of the slain. But I do not believe Ven would have this work that was performed in him...a beating resulting in death, maybe...but not what you will see.

The other murders occured at a barn south of The next small town Valduria heading towards Maginmar. Three Merchants were slain. There Bodyguard was quite distraught, and acting very unstable so we sent him to Habes Sanitorium, where he is under the care of the staff. Its a few hours ride east.

I think both murders are linked because a rune you will recognize was found at both locations. The Rune is that seven pointed star like was found on the Runewell below the Glassworks.

Lan, don't you remember when you were doing the house to house search after the Goblin was found in the attic, The Scarnetti's refused to let you check their Lumbermill....He hasnt liked having 'adventuring types' be deputized since Mayor Deverin did just that.

Lan snaps his fingers. "That's right! I remember Thorn not allowing us in, and he seemed a personable sort, but I'd forgotten who he worked for. Given that his attitudes haven't likely changed, either the Sheriff or an Official Deputy had best accompany us when we investigate. "

"Calm down Tanis," Talon said quietly. "It's his property and his privacy. With the Sheriff, we can go investigate, but we'll get nowhere busting our way into places... I'm as eager to get to the bottom of his as you are, but let's allow those with more polished tongues than our own get us inside."

Talon turned casually and tried to pull his tunic over the sihedron amulet he was now wearing around his neck. No reason to draw undo attention nor stir confusion by showing it off, even if it was a useful relic...

The group left the interior office and saw Orick fully dressed and ready to go. he was standing over Ibor and saying If ye did it, ye best had come clean. We will find out.

The Sheriff said Enough Orick. Thorn, They want you to write down everything you know about this while we are gone.

and he headed to the door.
