The Skinsaw Murders Part II: The Thing in The Attic
Casting Prestidigitation cantrip

Talon's hand lingered momentarily over the simply clay mug of well-water which Ameiko had known to be his preference. It was a very simple bit of minor magic, but the fact he was able to do it after having been totally bereft of his once powerful magic, was both satisfying and comforting. His magic continued to grow stronger here on this side of the Sovyrian Portal. The liquid cooled just to point of freezing, Talon took a long pull, refreshing, crisp, delicious.

"Well met Mina, I'm known as Talon," the elf said, basking somewhat in the titles she was bestowing upon them. Heroic indeed. They had accomplished much. "The mantle of Iomedae is upon you..." Talon returned the compliment. "Forgive our appearance and state. It's been quite an outing. Successful, but costly as well."

Sense Motive on Tanis: Talon rolled 6

Talon noticed that Tanis's demeanor had changed somewhat, but was at a loss to read the huge Shoanti warrior. He takes these sorts of things very seriously, the elf thought, perhaps he just needs to rest...

The elf shrugged and addressed their guest. "Called you say? By whom may I ask? Someone we know or have met perhaps?"

"Be welcome, my cousin," she replied to Tanis, vaguely remembering the traditional greeting and possibly using it incorrectly. "I should apologize, I know less of our traditional ways than I should, and was raised in the city, away from the clans. Perhaps you can teach me. But for now," she presented her holy symbol of Iomedae closed her eyes and uttered a quick prayer. Holy energy radiated from her in waves as she channeled energy to heal her new friends, again and again if needed until she could channel no more or all wounds were healed. Her channeling was not precise or specific, and all in the tavern that night would feel Iomedae's blessing radiate from her.

"Channeling is not my specialty, but the infinite might of the Lady of Valor will close your wounds, even if flowed through an imperfect vessel as myself. As for who called me to find you, I'm sure you all know her well. The Lady Iomedae herself came to me in a dream and instructed me to find you, and join with you to bring our paths together to greater valor and glory."

Lan wearily responds "hey, 'meiko. Mina, Ameiko is actually my cousin, by the way. Param is at Dr Habe's Sanitorium, where we fought a powerful necromancer with many zombies. After that we were ambushed by a horde of ghouls led by a ghaat. We need to consult the good Father. One of us got infected with ghoul fever."

"It is good to meet with you Mina, thank you for your gracious offer. Sorry for our haggard condition we were in some serious battles. We would be happy to join you."

Allura will join the others.

"Lan here is correct, many of us were clawed by the creatures, do you know if such a thing can pass on the condition ?"

Not expecting the subject to come up at the Inn, Talon turned his attention to those seated around them to take note of who might be eavesdropping on the conversation. They didn't need a panic on their hands as well...

"I think you're all likely fine and free from ghoul fever, but to be safe, a visit to Father Zanthus in the cathedral would probably be a good idea in the morning. Even if ill, you won't succumb tonight. Unfortunately my Lady has not yet graced me with the power to cure a disease like that."

Mina frowned when she realized she had channeled all her goddess' energy and left people unhealed. She sat quietly in the corner of the table for a while. Though no one here had known her for more than a few minutes, this seemed uncharacteristic for the gregarious, outgoing woman. She muttered softly to herself and occasionally touched herself on the forehead or chest. After fifteen minutes she returned her focus onto the group and laid her hands on Lan first then Tanis, closing their wounds with her touch before pronouncing, "Better!" to no one in particular and returning her focus to the conversation.

Spending 15 minutes to prepare cure moderate wounds in a second level open spell slot. Cast Cure light wounds on Lan and cure moderate wounds on Tanis.

13:52, Today: Mina rolled 13 using 2d8+3.  cure moderate wounds on Tanis.

13:52, Today: Mina rolled 8 using 1d8+3.  cure light wounds on lan.

Please sit Sister, I forget my manners please eat with us, and put your money away it is not good at our table you are our guest, and we are already in your debt. You have yet to even meet us and already you have healed us all. You have met my little brother Lan our scout, and my little sister Allura our shaman, Big brother Talon our leader and for me the voice of reason when I'm calm enough to listen. Finally allow me to introduce you to Zenfira Cazal keeper of our clans history.

As Tanis turns in his seat so he's facing Zen, gone is the battle hardened, wore out warrior. In his place sets a young man who's clearly in love, just the sight of Zenfira brings a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye This is Zen my best friend and Little Feather.

Then after turning back to face Mina, My friends call me Tanis I am the protector and guardian of this clan.

Zenfira seemed, at first, to be a little overwhelmed by the meeting with Mina and being at the centre of attention in the Rusty Dragon.  To those that knew her, her smile was not as quick to grace her lips as normal.  There was much on her mind.  The entire ride back from the farm to Sandpoint she had been going over recent events and how she was the focus for recent unsavoury events.  Now, back amongst friends, she couldn't help but wonder if the troubles that had been seeking her out would not do so again.  They had before, and any one of the folks in the Inn could be the next one to 'deliver' a message to her.

After downing a mug of ale with the enthusiasm of a Cayden Cailean priestess, ill thoughts still troubled her but she tried to put on an unaffected attitude.

The laugh that she gave in response to Tanis' uttering of her being his best friend may have been a little forced, but the man had tried to comfort her, as had the others, and it would not do to have her troubled musings ruin their return to Sandpoint.  "If by best friend, you mean the only person to spend their mornings sparring with you and willingly accept the bruises that you so enthusiastically dole out, then I guess I am."  she said, giving Tanis a soft smile.  She took another deep swig of a fresh drink before standing to embrace Mina in a friendly hug.  "Nice to meet you, Mina.  Oh!...I should have washed up before doing that.  Pardon our conversation about Ghoul fever, we usually have better topics of conversation but we've been debating that the entire ride back so it's already at the tip of our tongues.  What are you drinking?  And why did you come all the way from Riddleport to meet with us?"

"Thank you Tanis, you are as generous as you are brave," she smiled at his rejection of her offer for dinner.

She was glad that Zenfira returned her embrace, and ignored her grimy state. "Nonsense! You are bathed in the waters of glory, ordinary water is not necessary. I've come from Riddleport seeking my fortune which my Goddess has spoken to me is tied with yours. I wish to join our stories, if you'll have me. I truly hope you all will choose to let me join you." She smiled at Zenfira, feeling she was the last to formally welcome her into the group.

"I'd be happy to join you both to spar. Iomedae encourages her devotees to maintain a fighting physique," something she took very seriously given the muscle in her arms and shoudlers. "<Rose>"And I'm no stranger to bruises." Only then did it dawn on her that perhaps this was the kind of 'sparring session' that only two were invited to.

"I mean," she sputtered, momentarily at a loss for words, something that didn't happen often. "Of course, if it's not presumptuous to intrude. I don't want to be a third wheel."

The Sovyrian Elf was oblivious to the nuance of the situation. He had spent centuries in study and had veritable volumes of information stored away in his mind, but when it came to social graces and the intricacies of human interaction, he might certainly be considered the child of the lot.

"Actually Mina, I'm of a mind to work on some techniques in the morning. I enjoy sparring with both Tanis and Zenfira, but sometimes the two of them are a bit... aggressive for my style. I'd be happy to spar with you and give you a perspective that I'd be willing to wager you've never seen before..."

Talon's hand strayed to the hilt of his graceblade, but it was obvious by the look on his face that he didn't understand the smirks on the faces of those gathered around him.

Lan sees the last of his wounds heal, and nods his thanks. He offers this bit of wisdom, "and what is wrong with a third wheel? I find it adds stability to a cart. Be welcome and join us for a drink. I have business to conduct here in town while the others track down leads, but a moment of respite is called for. Ameiko, did you manage to find a business manager for the glassworks? I assume you took ownership of it."

OOC: Lan will be busy selling off any items not wanted by the group, and getting the others identified. He will also ask that requests for improved equipment go through him. His Merchant Family trait gets him more gold for sold items and improves the amount of value that Sandpoint can provide us.

Seeing Zen force her dismal thoughts to side, and allow the fiery sharp tonged wit he had come to love surface, put him more at easy then anything else could have. Throwing his head back he roared with laughter. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!   You've got to be kidding Zen. Me give you bruises, I've felt the butt end of your spear more times then I can count.  And you big brother.  acting as if we are anything but willing students, Mina trust me if Talon offers a training session only a fool would pass it up. I have just begun to train under him and have already improved my fighting style in ways I never imagined. He's forgot more about fighting styles then I'll ever know.

Then turning back to Mina, By all means do join us at morning practice we'll all enjoy beating on each other. Tanis couldn't help but feel a sense of rightness deep inside. This is the way life was meant to be family enjoying each others presence. Then his mind was filled with other thoughts some evil Lord at taken it upon himself to try and harm his people. The shoanti knew that after they had rested. He would track down his Lordship and put his head in bag and make this shadow leave his loved ones.

Zenfira finished off her ale with a flourish and called for another.  "Please do join us for morning practice, Mina.  It's always good to practice against a different style of fighting.  This one..."  She leaned into Tanis to emphasize who she was speaking about.  "...makes a big target but hits like an anvil with that axe.  This one on the other hand..."  Zen leaned in Talon in a similar fashion.  "...is all Elfy and difficult to hit but his Graceblade is nothing to underestimate.  What's your style of fighting, I wonder?  As a follower of Iomedae I'm going to guess...sword...but alone or with shield?"

"Well, I'm no fool," she replied to Tanis with a smile. "I'd be happy to learn a little more about fighting. I've spent time with the militia in Riddleport before Iomedae called me to service, but I am hardly a master at arms."

"It's funny," she replied to Zenfira's question, trying not to stare at the celestial radiance, which just made it seem like she was reluctant to make eye contact. "You'd think a servant of Iomedae would choose the longsword, and I am competent with one. But in the militia we were trained with pole-arms, and I continue to favor the bardiche. I'm no front line combatant in heavy armor and shield, and a longer weapon allows me to support from just behind while still contributing in the battle."

She tried not to stare when Allura took off her mask, knowing the very reason she wore it was to avoid that reaction from people like her. She almost pulled it off, but her gaze studied the angelic face just a fraction longer than would have been socially acceptable. She pulled her attention away, but it just fell to Zenfira and led her to blush.

"I'm sorry, I'm being very rude. I've just never met Aasimar before, and now two at once. Your beauty and your grace is just, I'm sorry I'm just a little awestruck. I'll stop it now," She was blushing when she finished and looked down at her drink feeling ashamed at her provincial manners.

"And when it comes to, ahem, Elfy, spending some time working on your acrobatics with Lan here would do wonders for your battlefield movement." Lan seemed oddly quiet and serious to this point, and Talon wished to pull him into the conversation. Which would allow himself to withdraw somewhat. He'd already spoken with more amiability than was his custom. Perhaps these new friends were wearing off on him.

"It's all well and good to specialize, but I have to tell you of our most recent outing. We were so encircled by foes that their fetid gasps could be felt... smelled even." He nearly gagged at the thought. "I had the misfortune of setting off an ambush. We're here, but it was close... too close. Be warned, this is a common occurrence lately. And most of us have been on the shady side of death as well." Talon finished by thinking back to Grigore saving him when they'd been ambushed by skeletons behind the temple.

Lan nods his head in agreement. "It didn't help that our Clerical friend, Param, has expended all his channeling magic for the day. Not able to heal our group, or hurt the undead horde in vast numbers, made it more difficult than it needed to be." Looking at Talon, he adds "and that's why I wanted to scout out the situation alone. I might have been able to sense the undead before they saw me, and I can be pretty damned silent when I need to be. Had I discovered the ambush ahead of time, you and I could have taken out small groups of them without endangering our companions. But hindsight is a luxury only afforded by survivors, and our survival is the important point. Tell the truth, I wouldn't mind squaring off with you, Mina. I'm not generally a front-line fighter like Tanis or Talon, and my twin short swords are something I have to practice a lot with, if I'm ever going to learn how to parry with one of them."

"Thanks Allura, I appreciate your understanding. And Lan, Uncle John?" she shook her head quietly smiling. "Family is family I guess. Not like you can pick them."

She was tempted to ask for a tub of hot water herself, but knew that was probably over the line in terms of too much too soon! So instead, after a little more conversation, she excused herself and went to bed. She was staying at the Dragon, so it wasn't far.

She was up at the crack of dawn, first praying then searching out her new training partners.

Talon eventually excused himself from the gathering, though he didn't expect any of them to stay long. They were all exhausted, covered in gore, and depleted from their horrific encounters. The elf paid for a bath, and spent some time caring for his gear, meticulously cleaning it and readying it for the next day's adventures... whatever those might be. He then took a slow stroll around Sandpoint, attempting to clear his mind. Finally, he returned to his room and spent his time in reverie, slipping - at least in his wandering mind - once again beyond the Sovyrian Portal to a world where time didn't exist, at least not like it did here in Golarion.

Up early, Talon was first to the practice field the next morning, going through his daily drills and routines. He looked to be almost dancing with his elegant graceblade, but to music or rhythms only he could hear.

After drinking and filling up on good hot food Tanis arranges for his and Zens hot baths, then escorts Zenfira to her door. He himself enters the room first checking to ensure the window is latched and that the door lock works. Then he steps back into the hall. Your hot bath awaits Little Feather, He gently takes her hand and looks into her eyes, I know battle and combat and will willingly face any threat with out fear. But I know nothing of how to show the feelings of my heart to a woman, but when this is finished I would be willing to learn if you are willing to teach me.

If Talon was the first up, Mina was close behind. She trained with her pole arm for a while, dancing and dodging, though with a very different fighting style. She was a counter puncher, waking for an opening for her opponent to over commit then punishing it with powerful swings.

But the focus of her training wasn't her weapon, and she was clearly less skilled, if only slightly, than those who devoted themselves totally to weapon training.

After about an hour, she excused herself and went to the cathedral to train her priestess side.

"Meet me at the cathedral when you're done. we can have father zanthus inspect your wounds for any ghoul infection."
