In reply to S.U.E. (msg # 16):

"Goddammit SUE this is not the time!" Barry recalls SUE's primary functionality runs on a motivator down the hall. He frantically runs over to find and remove the device.

"I find it hard to believe that you truly want what's best for this city," Kaylee snips. "You want to conquer, not liberate." Her grip on her weapon has not loosened.

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 18):

Reverie smiled, a cold grin that didn't reach Saria's dull eyes.

"You poor young thing. That's the way it has always been. Throughout history, it has been a battle to conquer," she replied evenly, Saria's voice gliding through the words, "You have seen the hardships in this city, you have seen what ends people go to in order to survive. Can you deny that my reign would be an improvement from the squalor the citizens live in now?"

"Imagine District 3 without Blight, and those harmed by his touch cured from their plague. Imagine the Gifted freed at last from slavery in the Greenhouses. Think of people who could finally leave the city, once Escher and Miasma no longer control the gates."

"I do not make it a habit to lie. Regardless of if you choose to side with me or not, Cataclysm's reign is coming to an end. I am generously granting the Reckoners a chance to live to see the first spring in Ozymandias after a decade of winter," her voice dipped into threatening tones.

"What is your choice, little girl?"

In reply to Reverie (msg # 19):

Barry speaks into his earpieces as he finds SUE's motivator for removal. "I don't like the idea of working under an epic. If we disagree our base is compromised, if we agree we have to uphold standards or face the consequences. There might be some benefit to working under Reverie but I don't know if I'm willing to do that."

"And we don't even know what Wren's boss wants us to do. Establishing this partnership might be detrimental with Reverie may be detrimental to the partnerships we have with our other allies."

Kaylee considers Reverie's speech and Barry's commentary. Her crossbow does not waver.

"What exactly do you want us to do?" she finally says. "We've made a lot of deals today and I'm fucking tired of it."

She pauses, then adds, "You already killed two of us. We can't trust you."

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 21):

Kaylee was right. Past interactions have resulted in the death of the allies that Kaylee, Barry and Saria had come to replace. Now, it is obvious that they may have already lost another and such a deal would only put them in a dangerously close proximity to a powerful mind manipulator.

"You're right," Barry says. "But try to hold off from doing anything rash until i can fully extract SUE and SUE's files. We dont want our enemies to have this."

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 21):

"I did not kill Theresa. Nor did I kill Ryan. He committed both deeds," Reverie responded coolly.

"As for...Saria...I had my followers free her from the prison," she glanced to one of her hands, made a fist and opened it slowly as though in contemplation, "And she willingly chose to follow me. The offer of answers was enough to sway her. However, I did not trust her to complete this task without some...additional guidance."

"As for tasks," she continued, dropping the hand to her side again, "I do not need much from either of you. Access to your database would be enough for now. Additional information as you find it would be shared, of course, between our two parties. And," she finished, "You would stay clear of any Epics who follow me. In return for this access, I will turn a blind eye to your actions in the city while our partnership lasts."

As though to emphasize this, the raven gave a small croak and tipped it's head to stare down with a beady eye.

In reply to Reverie (msg # 23):

Barry reaches the server room which was cluttered with wires and cannibalized bits of electronics. Looking around the well put together mess, Barry makes his way to one of the computers on the shelf that Barry recalls holding the computer with SUE's motivator, the device that provides SUE's Epic capabilities. Carefully with his left non clawed hand, he ejects the floppy disc like motivator.

"I think we'd be putting ourselves in a really risky situation considering what happened to both Ryan and Theresa. And look at Saria. I will not willingly end up like her."

In reply to Barry (msg # 24):

Kaylee falters with her weapon. Although she doesn't believe for a second that Reverie had nothing to do with Ryan killing both himself and Theresa, Kaylee can't ignore the obvious advantages of siding with Reverie... if only for now.

"We can't trust you," she repeats, but lowers her weapon. She grits her teeth. "You can... take the information you need. But there are limits." It pains Kaylee to say the words, but she's realized that in order to take down Epics, she'll have to play this game. "We will only do so much for you."

Kaylee bites her cheek and takes a second to think. She finally says, after a moment of contemplation, "We will not kill for you; we will not die for you. No fucking mind control - not on us. We want to know your plan for the city and we want to know who your followers are."

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 27):

Reverie listened to Kaylee's response in silence. The girl's voice hung in the air for a long moment before Reverie answered.

"I never intended for you to be as devout as my followers. I do not expect for you to kill for me, nor to die for me. I expect you to stay out of my way," her voice carried a slight lilt, as though she found Kaylee's demands humorous.

"I have already told you my plans for the city. And my followers are far too numerous to name. I assume you mean the Epics who call me their leader?" Reverie raised Saria's eyebrow in querie.

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 30):

Reverie took in a deep breath and let it out as a sigh.

"Kaylee, 'innocent' is a matter of perspective, even you are not so naive to argue that," she tutted in an almost maternal manner, though you don't think her icy voice has the capacity to ever possibly convey such human emotions.

"You will know the Epics who follow me soon enough. You already know of Silhouette, and have had an unfortunate encounter with Moreau. If we are to be allies, I can assure you he will not bother you in such a way again."

She held up a hand and the Raven fluttered down to land upon it.

"If we are in agreement, I have a final condition. I will be leaving my eyes and my voice with you," Saria stopped speaking, but the raven continued with the same cadence, though now the voice was higher and somehow even colder, "Not to interfere, but as insurance."

"She's leaving something to keep an eye on us." Barry figures. "Probably those damn birds." Barry decides to remove the motivator if only to back up SUEs files just in case.

In reply to Barry (msg # 34):

The raven clucked softly and ruffled its feathers. Saria stayed statuesquely frozen, dead eyes unblinking and staring right through Kaylee.

The raven spoke again in the high, clear, feminine voice, "If we are to be allies, I need to know wether you are keeping your end of our arrangement. I intend to be public with my displays, but the Reckoners have always skulked in the shadows," it looked at Kaylee with its flashing black eyes.

"I will be leaving this to keep watch over your work," Saria spoke again, raising the bird on her arm as she spoke. Her eyes focused on Kaylee.

"Unless...you do not wish to cooperate anymore?" Her voice dipped low into a threat, and Saria's face shifted into a glare.

"Shush!*" Barry says frustrated, seemingly out of nowhere but in reality Barry is trying to reject the hallucinations thoughts. "Sorry Kaylee that wasn't towards you. Anyway, we can't take that dang bird indoors. And it can't be seen with us, people will get suspicious."

" She will watch, and should the need arise for me to contact you, I will do so through her," Reverie's voice slipped silkily through the words, as though she took immense pleasure in seeing Kaylee's discomfort.

The raven spread inky wings and with a hiss of wind through feathers flew to perch atop the camera once more.

"So, are we in agreement?" Saria's teeth flashed white against her dark skin as Reverie smiled.

"Then we are agreed."

She took Kaylee's hand and shook it once.
