The Gilded

All that glisters is not goldó
Often have you heard that told.
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold.
Gilded tombs do worms enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgment old,
Your answer had not been inscrolled
Fare you well. Your suit is coldó
Cold, indeed, and labor lost.

In reply to Fatemaker (msg # 1):

The unspoken consensus as the truck finally came to a blissfull stop was that Wren was a horrifying driver. Especially to Barry, whose blindness rendered him completely at the mercy of each careening turn and trick of inertia, was grateful to have solid, non-mobile ground beneath his feet.

"That wasn't so bad, was it?" Wren quipped as she locked the doors with a metallic click. She wrinkled her nose underneath a face-mask as she looked around.

The address Yorik had left with you had led to a long stretch of houses in the University area. A street split down the two rows of buildings that stood like misshapen teeth in an overbite jaw. A car interrupted the almost-symmetry here and there.

A few people scurried like mice from one house to another, only dressed lightly, not to stay out in the ice and snow.

Yorik's address included the house number 402.

What do you do?

"Oh god. Are we finally here?" Barry asked. "I don't like riding blind."

Kaylee feels a little woozy from Wren's manic driving, but she tries to hide it by straightening out her shoulders and jamming her hands into her pockets. She grins at Barry's comment and snickers, "Might have to do that a little later with the doctor. You know, riding blind."

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 4):

Barry acknowledges that statement with a very unamused laugh," Ha ha Kaylee, your so funny."

"I didn't agree to ANYTHING beyond the Gala," he stated.

"C'mon," Wren grabbed the sleeve of Barry's parka and drug him away from the truck. If she had heard the exchange between the two she gave no indication.

"Where did you say he lived again?" She hissed at the Reckoners. Her own clothes rustled as she turned her head around to scope her surroundings warily, every inch of her body screaming with suspicion.

In reply to Wren (msg # 6):

Barry followed Wren along as she pulled him along, walking carefully, as best as he could being pulled around, to avoid tripping over unseen obstacles on the ground."It's house 402."

In reply to Barry (msg # 7):

Kaylee trails after Barry and Wren, the smaller girl's wary body language jolting Kaylee back on guard as well. She'd grown almost comfortable working in the Aerie and Kaylee kicks herself for being so stupid. She scans their surroundings in search of danger or any watchful eyes.

In reply to Kaylee (msg # 8):

A duo of ravens perched atop a light pole, though both were puffed against the cold air and seemed uninterested in their surroundings.

Then, across the street, Kaylee caught a glimmer of movement. A woman, dark haired and wearing a white jacket, had opened her curtains to watch them. At this distance, she was nothing more than a figure, fine details insured, but even then, Kaylee didn't believe she had seen this woman before.

The house 402 was close, beneath a small cluster of long-dead trees. Even from the outside, colorful lights could be seen leaking out of the windows.

Wren scurried up to the door and knocked, five times and loudly.

In reply to Wren (msg # 9):
After a few moments, all members waiting on the porch could hear and feel a pudding of feet as someone rapidly and carelessly bounded down stairs. There was another series of increasingly loud footsteps. Wren tensed and she slipped into a defensive stance as there was the creak of an internal door opening, then the click-creak of the outside door opening a crack.

One bright green eye peered out, curious, then narrowed as its owner smiled.

"Why hello, there!" Yorik crooned, "I thought you said you would be late!" He mockingly accused the trio, and threw the door open wide. The small room behind him was piled with multitudes of shoes, some more practical than others. The doctor himself was currently dressed in all white, from his button-down shirt to his slacks and socks. His blonde hair was partially tamed, as though he had been interrupted whilst fixing it.

He ushered the three in, "Come on, I won't bite!" He winked at Barry and whispered, "Maybe later though..."
