The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I was kinda waiting on a response to my PM before I did anything regrettable...  ;)

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I don't remember the reward either.  As for the rest of the plan, we could catch a couple of hours of sleep, and then head out.  I agree with Teg on the deliverables of information and lore.  I think we should feel him out for his thoughts on the Bloodforged and local politics before we hit him up with a hard ask on joining the opposition, so to speak.

RL - I'm getting time in fits and spurts.  And even when I do have time to post, I haven't necessarily had time to think about what I want to post, so there's that.

Jenna would have disagreed with handing over the details of the weapon / experiment but as most of this conversation took place whilst I was either at work or asleep I haven't had a chance to say that until now.

Edit. FWIW Jenna's also not a member of the Overmark fan club. I don't know if I maybe missed the nuances (and obviously can't check back as the posts in question aren't there any more) but I've never caught this integrity vibe.

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

OK. Turn post deleted then. I don't want to railroad anyone, I just want to get the game moving again. The last official turn went up Monday, so it's time. There were deliberately subtle extenuating factors in the post to justify the party's openness as well, assuming that no one would turn down the refreshments offered (based on what transpired during the initial meeting, I saw no reason why anyone would).

Jenna doesn't have to like or respect Overmark. Overmark's never lied to the party. She seems to care very strongly about the city. She's acknowledged that the Fire Council are frustratingly difficult to work under. Her activities are constrained by her budget (controlled by the FC) and by checks and balances in the government system of Balefyre. She's an appointee that can be removed from office by a unanimous vote of the FC. A few members of the FC have indicated that it is their wish to do so. She's the only person in any position that of power that you know of who has actively resisted the BF takeover of the city. I've written her to convey an integrity vibe, but apparently I haven't written her very well.

I know that she doesn't have to like / respect her, I was simply stating my character's IC point of view. Jenna won't oppose any attempt to rescue her just because she doesn't like / respect her.

Raellus:

As I said, maybe I just missed the nuances.

I've admitted that I am feeling a little frustrated by the lack of IG progress. You sound frustrated too. What would you like me to do?

Well, I think this conversation may have identified part of the problem with speed both here and in Grey Cell... we're spread out from Arizona to Poland and that's a lot of time zones to span in an asynchronous conversation.

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I'm good with the current plan outlined via Nic if everyone else is.  Sorry if my posting isn't quite as regular as I would like it to be.  I'm not making excuses, but I try to get here as often as I can.  The pace we're going actually helps me out and doesn't feel too drawn out, especially for non-combat posts.  It's easy to bang out a 'Corros throws another round of spells,' but it's nice to chew on a thoughtful piece for a few seconds.

All that to say, sorry for my part in dragging the pace down, but I'm having a heck of a lot of fun here, despite geo-temporal distortions in the narrative field.  A little bit of patience and we'll get through it all fine.

Turn is up. It's another talky one. I hope it's OK.

What percentage of the artifacts does the party wish to keep? Where are they keeping them?

Just so I can figure out what Padin can/can't and will/won't tell you, what kind of info are you looking for?

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

This is an overview of Nic's current threads of inquiry through all sources, not just Padin:

Status of, or rumors about, the members of the Fire Council.

Status of Overmark (if I don't ask, Gronk will).

Status of the city's economy, both regulated and gray/black.

Status and mood of the common citizens.

Level of integrity (or lack thereof) among the occupiers, both officers and common soldiers.

Increase or decrease in arcane/spiritual/occult activity in the city.

Identities of known or suspected foreign parties with whom the occupiers are negotiating.

Profiles of the occupiers' key figures.

Status of the occupiers' counterintelligence/counterinsurgency capabilities.

Any specific concerns Padin (or others) have that we can address as part of our nefarious activities.

What am I missing, guys?

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Along these lines:

Food security status for commoners and others

Censorship or information suppression efforts by the occupiers and to what extent those are working, along with any information on underground newsletters, meetings, etc.

Have any particular groups (by ethnicity, profession, religious affiliation, etc.) been targeted by the occupying government?

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

At some point, Corros will want to see what the street rat perception of every thing is.  And maybe access to a library that isn't only available when he dreams for a little more research on a couple targets.

Do you guys think it's worth asking an innocent question about a kid whose trail we lost in the sewers need warehouse 8?  No accusations, no sir, you just seem like a man who would know about threats in your area...etc...etc...

Re: The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Strength of the Bloodforged? Numbers, weaponry, are they all foot soldiers or do they have any cavalry? Where have they set up their HQ (the Keep would seem logical but I don't think it's been explicitly stated only alluded to)

Seems like a fair question to me.

Inspiration is tracked in the Party Purse section of the Adventurer's Journal notice.

The latest "turn" is a prodigious info-dump. I've tried to address all of your questions (see also Lenora's report). I may have missed something- if so, let me know. Some additional details may be provided by the Waterbearers and, if contact is reestablished with the Drowned Rats, by the latter. The meeting with Padin is not over until you want it to be, so if you have follow-up questions or wish to press on certain topics, feel free. On the other hand, if you're ready to leave and do something else, by all means, let me know.

OK, so I did my Level 6 Upgrade. I can't say anything leaped out at me from the spell selection for my extra spell so I ended up going with Revivify (I would have went for Animate Dead but I came to the conclusion that animating corpses didn't really fit with Jenna's set of ethics and morals as they currently stand).

Ulfgar action items in town:

1) Find Evra and propose.
2) Commission Thri-Kreen armor at Strongarm's Smithy.
3) Visit Temple of M'c-Donál and talk to Farmers.  Offer to cast 8 hr version of Plant Growth for any in desperate need (as time allows).
4) Try to find plants "thick and laden with thorns or razor-edged leaves*" and place strategically around old Bálint house perimeter and windows  If there is a painful ivy that can do this, trellis it along the exterior walls as well.  Create kill funnels with sight lines from the windows when possible.  Cast normal plant grown spell.  Turn into a goat/dire goat and trim hedge accordingly.
5) Commission carpenter to make window boxes, terrace, roof top planters, etc. as house can support.
6) Buy and plant live herbs (cooking, brewing, potions, poisons) for the house and plant in planters.  Maybe a vegetable box and fruit trees depending on space.
7) Cast 8 hour version of Plant Grown centered on the house to double plant yields.

*Thanks to Teg for the inspiration on this one...
