Re: It's Time!

Thanks for the quick reply. Since all of the other PCs still have most, if not all, of their powers, after a short rest, we'll go with that. Would y'all like to cast any buff spells prior to the current encounter? If so, I'll allow it retroactively.

P.S. Who has the pendant of proof against fear?

In reply to Raellus (msg # 914):

I'm voting Gronk or Ulfgar for the pendant.  Someone who can do close in damage.

I just want to pick up my sling and sling bullets while we are at the house if that's ok.

Absolutely.

Anyone else? A Bless spell, perhaps?

I'm happy for Gronk to take the anti-fear pendant if no one else wants it.

Tactically, is the hallway big enough to send summoned creatures around Jenna's 15' radius so they don't encounter the sprit guardians?

Re: It's Time!

The hallway is about 10' wide so I don't think that'll work.

BTW, if Gronk's trip attack succeeds, it'll knock AA1 prone, granting advantage on all melee attacks until the thing gets up.

Animated Armor #1 (on the left) is dead. Jenna's spell worked brilliantly and Gronk's attacks did too. AA2 was damaged by the Spirit Guardians.

Can I use Counter Spell against eyeball attacks that have spell effects?

Re: It's Time!

Hey, guys.  Thank you for your concern.  Without getting too angsty, I'll just say that the past couple of weeks have been a rare and shitty convergence of drama on several fronts, exacerbated by a summer cold that turned into a lingering sinus issue.  Also, I'm nine days out from the submission deadline on my CEM credentialing packet and am trying to scrape together proof of all my work-related accomplishments for that.

Sorry for going offline for so long.  I'm attempting to catch up now.

I'm going to make a snap ruling of yes on that. Surprisingly, the interweb doesn't yield an easy answer to your question. Each eye-ray attack closely resembles a similarly-name spell so it stands to reason that they are magical/spell attacks. That's my reasoning. That said, it's unlikely that the beholder will be using its eye-ray attacks this round. Read on.

Thanks to Ulfgar, the mini-beholder can see any of you to target you this turn- a brilliant tactic that had not occurred to me as I prepped the encounter and ran through various contingencies. As Spartan pointed out, the beholder is either going to have to pass through the cloud, putting it into melee range, wait for you to come to it, fire blind (it's very unclear on how to roll that), or retreat.

@Nic: It's good to have you back.

Re: It's Time!

Also, yeah, that rules set is amazingly well-obfuscated.  I actually had to hit up Reddit for a page reference but with Fog Cloud, I think the situation falls under the heavy obscuration line item under "Vision and Light" on p.183... which, in turn, references Blinded on p. 290.  But Blinded doesn't actually reference ranged vs. melee attacks, just says "attacks."  That's... surprisingly poorly-scripted for this edition.

Re: It's Time!

Great tactics, great rolls. AA2 is dead as well. That leaves no unobscured targets for Corros, until...

I'm going to assume a ready action for Corros so that he can deal quickly with the new threat coming up behind the party. i.e. Corros goes first this round.

@Corros: The new enemy (henceforth referred to as Q) starts off about 7.5' feet from Corros so he has options. He can launch a quick ranged attack or close/wait to make a touch attack.

The text on hold person says humanoid so I'm guessing we're good here.  If not, I'll change my post to a twin lashing of eldritch bolts.

Thanks!  I'm pestering co-workers for a last couple of letters to substantiate work I've done.  Then I've gotta bust out a 1,500-word essay, which, well... it's a 1,500-word essay.  Not worried about that.

Dashing through a cloud of fog could result in running headlong into a wall or trap or something else unfortunate like that. It'd probably be a good idea to end the fog effect before advancing.

Did we get a look at the terrain (such as it is) before the fog went up?
