Re: It's Time!

@Rae - Clarification - is the carpet "rising up" like an animated object or is that just poetic license for a trap mechanism?

@Keys - Dang.  That is one long-lived campaign!

It's an animated object. Nasty trap, huh?

Re: It's Time!

That's kind of awesome.  It can self-select victims!

I was thinking about just tossing a knife at the spectator but I didn't want to have to deal with eyebeams if I missed - wanted to force it to burn another action on withdrawing again.  Ah well.

Turn will be going up midday tomorrow. If you can get a turn in by then, great, if not, I'll NPC Corros as instructed.

@Spartan:

Ulfgar Frostbeard:

Ulfgar Frostbeard
Moving to edge of the pit, side closest to friendlies.

Trying to get past the carpet/pit will provoke an opportunity attack. Since Ulfgar will be distracted by trying to jump the gap or traverse the narrow lip between passage walls and the pit, he will be granting advantage on that op attack. Are you sure you want him to do this? He can still attack from the side of the pit that he (and Nic) are currently on without giving the rug an op attack. It's your call on the action, I just want to be clear on what it might entail.

Why would he jump anything?

In reply to Ulfgar Frostbeard (msg # 971):

OK, my bad, Ulfgar-spider can cross the pit with no problem but he'll still have to pass through the floating rug's space to do so, provoking an op attack (albeit without advantage for the rug). The ceiling's not that high and the rug can float, so is he going to cast from where he is or attempt to pass the rug/spider (as a spider) and then cast.

Re: It's Time!

Remember that some of you guys have class features where you can help boost your allies' chances of success on attack, defense, and save actions during combat. When you want to use them during a fight, you can let me know in your combat tags.

I know that can be tricky without a fixed turn order so if you have maybe some situational guidelines in mind for when you might like to use ally-assist features, let me know and I will apply them automatically if/when those situations arise.

For example- "I want to use feature X anytime an ally has to make a saving throw to resist or end a debilitating effect."

OR

"I want to use feature Y when we really need to finish off a dangerous enemy."

Or something along those lines.

Otherwise, they'll go unused unless and until you specifically tell me to apply them.

Re: It's Time!

I'm in the final push for my CEM essay, which is the last major piece of my application packet.  I may not have a lot of mental bandwidth for posting until after Thursday, when the packet is due.

Current situation - Nic will try to play unconscious until the carpet is off of him in the hopes of ambushing the glowy asshat.

Re: It's Time!

Can I confirm whether Jenna still has her Spirit Guardians? Without looking it up I think it's a concentration spell with a ten minute duration but I don't know if being paralyzed would cause her to break concentration (Rae, you advised she could still think when paralyzed so presumably could still concentrate)?

I looked it up and being paralyzed ends concentration so she lost them as soon as she was paralyzed.

Re: It's Time!

@Rae, ok, thanks for clarifying.

@All, so what are we doing? Talking? Leaving? Fighting? Something else? I'm inclined to think that picking a fight with Padin may be counter productive in terms of the bigger picture at this time. After we've resolved the current local difficulties that's another matter.

Re: It's Time!

I'm inclined to think walking away is our best bet at the moment.  At this point we can still say "oops our bad."  We did try to clarify about the sewer rat after all.  A guy who builds dungeons with spectators might be a little out of our league at the moment.  And I think we're running low on spells.

It's pretty apparent, by just looking at Thumek, that the man's a powerful spell-caster. Corros (after another good arcana roll) can see that Thumek's already got a couple of defensive spells in effect. Any attempt at reading Thumek's mind fails. And this is the butler.

You can still try to fight him, if you'd like. You can try to talk to him. Or you can just leave.

I'm going to be visiting family in the Washington D.C. area starting tomorrow. I'll have internet access during that week but my availability will be spotty and I won't have any of my rulebooks so things will probably slow down until I get back home.

Re: It's Time!

I'm back.  Now to wait until late August for the certification committee to post its decision.

WRT the current situation... I believe this is the first time we've actually been explicitly told this was Padin's territory.  We knew it was nearby but the spectator never actually named its master.  So we can legitimately claim ignorance.  Also, Padin did know we were investigating the disappearance.  So I'm tempted to spin this as, "look, asshat, if the first-line guardians had told us that this was part of Casa Lovad, we wouldn't be in this situation."

That'll work. Does anyone want to write an IC post to that effect? Where would y'all like to pick up when I get back home (Wed.)? If y'all give me some direction, I'll start thinking up the next episode.

IIRC, if you leave Padid's right away, it'll be early afternoon game time.
