Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)
Hey, guys. I've been talking to Rae about possible directions in which to evolve Nic (Keys, you've been party to one of these threads) and I have something I want to run past y'all. As it does involve a minor rules exception and has potential bearing on plot for all of us, I'm not going to do it unless there's a unanimous green light.
As I said to Rae in PM earlier, the idea of multiclassing into paladin is actually rather appealing. It's an interesting twist on the idea of a spy as an agent of the crown... it's just that the crown in question is in contention and Nic doesn't have a chain of command any more.
Build-wise, I'd go with the Oath of Vengeance option. It's mechanically the best match for the rogue skill set and thematically the most appropriate for Nic. In this case, Nic's oath would be his existing one to House Riordan, executed as best he can to identify and punish the forces responsible for plunging Ardane into civil war. He's a long way from Ardane at the moment but if those forces happen to show up in Balefyre, that's clearly a sign for him to get back to work.
The rules twitch is that multiclassing into paladin requires STR 13. Clearly, the design intent for the class is a heavy armor fighter. As Nic is equally clearly a light armor and finesse guy, I'm asking for a rules exception on that, allowing STR or DEX 13 for paladin as the fighter multiclass rules do. Given Nic's attributes (STR 8, DEX 16), I am amazingly unlikely to have him change fighting styles.
In terms of the divine source of his paladin spellcasting and other class abilities, I've been doing a bit of worldbuilding for the Ardani local pantheon and the national demigods. Not likely to appear on screen (I think) but it's necessary for flavor. I'll share that if there's interest, or possibly clean it up and stick it in a post in the gazetteer thread.
