Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

I'd like to have Jenna stop by the Temple of Arma and make her manners with the local Cleric(s) at some point. I'm figuring that's something that she'd probably want to do on her own (sorry guys), so if that causes logistical challenges (either ooc in terms of splitting the group or ic in terms of buggering up the plot) I'm happy to go shopping instead. She does need a purse...

Also, I wasn't going to mention this until later in the week, but as we're on the subject I'll be offline much of 01st / 02nd of November (I have family visiting) so whilst I'll likely be able to check what's happening via phone I wont be able to post until either Sunday evening / Monday. On the plus side I am on holiday that week, so should be able to catch up quite quickly.

Corros will want to buy some new clothes and try to pick up some Thieves Tools, although I imagine Nic would be more help with the latter.  I will also try and get a post up when they sleep about his leveling up process at The Library.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Those are all things that can be done in the afternoon. I'm not feeling very inspired, though, so I'd like to save my juice for posts that advance the plot. Jenna's meeting with the clergy at the temple of Arma is probably warrants a more substantial series of posts so let's hold off on that a little bit. She'll have the chance to stop there when the party goes to the keep to meet with Commandant Overmark. All of the shopping can be done off-camera, if you don't mind too much. If I get the writing bug, I might bang out a couple narrative pieces for you guys to riff on (if you feel it too). I might be getting a cold (my wife has it bad, right now) and if I have to take a day off from work, I'll probably do a spot of writing if the ol' schnoz isn't running too badly. Otherwise, when we reconvene, we can assume that your PCs have acquired the items on their shopping lists. I'll get prices posted once I have a chance to look them up.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Prices:

Thieves' Tools (Corros) 32gp
Common Clothes 1gp
Traveler's Clothes 4gp
Fine Clothes 22gp
Herbalism Kit (Ulfgar) 7gp
Pouch/coin purse (Jenna) 1gp
Chain or Scale Mail (Gronk) 75gp

They're all at least 25% higher than PHP list prices, due to inflation and supply and demand.

If want to buy an item, subtract the cost from your coin purse and add the item to your char-sheet. If you'd like to write an IC shopping post, feel free. If not, no problem. I've posted a starter but you don't need to reply unless you want to. I ran out of steam so it's pretty short and not very descriptive. I'd like to add a little more color to it when I'm more in the mood to write but, if you're moved to post, there's no need to wait on me.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ulfgar Frostbeard:
I'm good with doing shopping and such.  I need to get a herbalist kit at a minimum.  Brewer's kit would be nice, but I need either a long term place to store it, or a mule and cart to haul it around.  Much depends on if Balefyre is going to be home, or a place we are passing through.

My intention is for Balefyre to serve as a home-base of sorts, a hub around which adventures are built, at least for the forseeable future.

Back!  Hopefully that's enough to nudge us along.

Nic will pick up a set of common clothes in the local style and a set of fine clothes for social work (as it were).  I've marked off coin for those.

Jenna also bought fine clothes (that's the second time recently my rpol posts have involved buying women's clothing...)

(For anyone trying to decipher exactly what she bought, here's a visual clue)

Hm.  Rae, what's the local price for studded leather armor?  Goin' for that extra point of AC...

ETA: Also, darts?

60gp will get you a decent suit.

Darts are 1gp for a dozen.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Hey, guys.  I've been talking to Rae about possible directions in which to evolve Nic (Keys, you've been party to one of these threads) and I have something I want to run past y'all.  As it does involve a minor rules exception and has potential bearing on plot for all of us, I'm not going to do it unless there's a unanimous green light.

As I said to Rae in PM earlier, the idea of multiclassing into paladin is actually rather appealing.  It's an interesting twist on the idea of a spy as an agent of the crown... it's just that the crown in question is in contention and Nic doesn't have a chain of command any more.

Build-wise, I'd go with the Oath of Vengeance option.  It's mechanically the best match for the rogue skill set and thematically the most appropriate for Nic.  In this case, Nic's oath would be his existing one to House Riordan, executed as best he can to identify and punish the forces responsible for plunging Ardane into civil war.  He's a long way from Ardane at the moment but if those forces happen to show up in Balefyre, that's clearly a sign for him to get back to work.

The rules twitch is that multiclassing into paladin requires STR 13.  Clearly, the design intent for the class is a heavy armor fighter.  As Nic is equally clearly a light armor and finesse guy, I'm asking for a rules exception on that, allowing STR or DEX 13 for paladin as the fighter multiclass rules do.  Given Nic's attributes (STR 8, DEX 16), I am amazingly unlikely to have him change fighting styles.

In terms of the divine source of his paladin spellcasting and other class abilities, I've been doing a bit of worldbuilding for the Ardani local pantheon and the national demigods.  Not likely to appear on screen (I think) but it's necessary for flavor.  I'll share that if there's interest, or possibly clean it up and stick it in a post in the gazetteer thread.

Input?

For the rest of the game day- I figure it's mid-to-late afternoon there now- I was thinking about taking y'all to the Keep to meet Commandant Overmark for the next scene. Y'all up for that?

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Turn is up sooner than I anticipated. I took some liberties to advance the conversation to a more meaningful stage. I anticipate that there will still be plenty of back and forth as the conversation becomes a genuine dialogue. Should you express interest in Overmark's offer, she will present you with a few options- mini-quests, if you will. You are under no obligation to take any of them. They'll likely stay "open" for a while, if you initially refuse, but not indefinitely, and leaving them open could eventually change the direction of the game.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Ulfgar Frostbeard:
"Wretched den of festering filth," Frostbeard said under his breath as Overmark spoke of the safeharbor of the pirate and the Fire Council of the city of Balefyre.  "Metal clad bureaucrat, probably the worst of them all.. careerist, probably slept her way to the top," he continued.  "Piratical Captain fucknuckle was probably her backdoor beau," the hill dwarf speculated.  "Compensation.. hrump... coin from greedy people for greedy people.  Leaving this 'city' would be the gods dispatch for all of us and most welcome.  This place reeks of sewers and whores," he groused as he eyes scanned the room.

Well, that certainly clarifies what Ulfgar's dump stat is.  ;)

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Lol. I played Skyrim but never noticed that. I stopped playing and pretty much forgot what my character was doing IG, so I never resumed. Now I want to play Fallout 4 so I'll need to upgrade to the XB1- and the wife says that means I'll have to trade in my 360. I'll probably never finish Skyrim now, and that makes me a little bit sad.

Finish Skyrim, then trade in the 360.  Duh.

Or get your wife hooked on Skyrim.  Then have someone get her hooked on shooting.  Best way to get more hobby support.
