Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

I'm just guessing here, since my player's handbook is at home and I'm away all week, but the wagon axle is a little too big for my mending cantrip, right?

EDIT: That's good thinking. The axle is a little more than 12" in circumference but from my reading of the spell description, I'll say that Mending can partially repair it- possibly squeezing another couple of miles out.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Since I seem to have rushed things a bit, I've pruned all of the bits about the caravan from both turn and PC response posts and preserved them offline. Once all business at the Vander estate is concluded, I'll repost all of the convoy stuff- yours and mine- and we can proceed from there. I don't want to mix up the continuity of the narrative too much.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

No... sadly, my tolerance is such that it takes a lot more than I've had to be drunk.  It's more, steak and red wine by the fire posting.  I would say I'm channeling my Saturday night Marine Ball experience to some extent though.  I mean, if you've never seen a goat do YMCA, then you really haven't been playing D&D correctly, now have you?

If you have steak, wine, and a fire, why are you posting here?

... and apparently I have never played D&D correctly until now.

Is it considered poor form to cast suggestion on wine guzzling dwarves?  In general I mean, not one in particular...

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Yup.  Nic is trolling for further intel but doesn't have any more pressing questions right now.  He is intensely curious about the politics on the Council, particularly as the elder Vander seems to be ready to strike the pirates on behalf of the merchants rather than the city as a whole... but that's something to probe after we get back from the mines.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Yep, fine by me. Assume that jenna passed on the gist of her private conversation with Vim when they got back to their accommodation.

I'm mentioned this elsewhere, but for various reasons I'm on day 2 of a week from Hell so my responses are likely to be slower and more than brief than usual for the rest of this week.

I'm drowning right now. I'll try and post later but can't guarantee. In the event that I can't assume Jenna will assist Nic with organising defences.

My monitor is slowly dying. If/when it finally gives up the ghost, I may go silent for a bit while I wrangle up a replacement. I can check in here on my phone but posting from it? Not really.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

This is what I'm imagining. The Five are in the main campsite area. Work for you guys?

                          E
                        Sentry

N Sentry---Oxen-Wagon*----Campfire/main campsite-----Sentry S

                        Sentry
                          W

*driver and assistant sleeping are racked out on the wagon

Each of the sentries is 20-30m from the fire. Sentry posts are more LPs than OPs, due to the very low-lighting conditions (at the risk of stating the obvious, the further from the fire, the less light there is to see by; also it's more difficult to see far with a fire at your back- that's why torches in movies are bunk).

The next turn post is written and ready to go when y'all are.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Works for me.  Unless someone has a spell that removes the need for sleep, we'll need to put some of our, uh, "volunteers" into the rotation.  One of us will periodically walk the perimeter to make sure they aren't sleeping and haven't been eaten by a grue.

Re: Tavern Talk (OOC)

Turn is up. It's combat time!

Here's a quick and dirty tac-map.

                        E. Sentry

             M1 M2
N. Sentry---Oxen-Wagon*----Campfire/main campsite-----S. Sentry

                        W. Sentry

*driver and assistant are on the wagon and will engage M1 this turn.

Y'all can place your PC anywhere on this map. I didn't want to assume placement or what your PC was or was not doing once the campsite was established. Your PCs know each other better now so I encourage you to work together as much as possible.

Since we determined that posting in initiative order doesn't really work for this format, I'll be resolving combat rounds in turn order. For example, if Gronk is the first to post an action, his action will be the first to be resolved in the turn post. Therefore, if need be, feel free to coordinate moves OOC, within reason. It's not metagaming IF:

a) The characters involved are close enough to communicate with one another IG.
b) Your character is not physically prevented from communicating (i.e. they're not under the influence of a silence or hold spell or something like that).
c) The ideas/info communicated could be done so in 10 seconds or less, IRL.

Gronk will attack (melee) anything you point him out. He'll rage if either encouraged to by an ally or once he's lost as certain number of HP.

As always, if you have any questions, just ask.

Enjoy.

Unless you guys have a better use for him, Nic will be in melee wherever Gronk is, trying to maximize the number of chances to get sneak attack damage.

Stellar first rolls, boys. I thought about throwing three of these beasties at you but decided the risk of a TPK was too great. I thought 2 would be a big challenge but y'all killed one dead in just one round. Nice. Let's hope the dice stay hot for round 2+.
