Louis' findings from her investigation:

1. Weapons are being smuggled to the city-state of Avenel in the Oenotrian Empire.
2. One of the quartermasters of the South Wales Borderers, Brian Derry, located at the armory in the New Barracks, is selling arms to the smugglers.
3. His contact, a Martian canal boat captain named Verinus, had been running their operation for about a year.
4. A woman named Harriett is Derry’s lover, (Louis doesn’t remember meeting her at Robert’s office once) and is also a German spy. Penny had followed Harriet, and saw her meeting with her German contact, which Penny recognized as an officer named Hans Gelber, an attaché at the German Embassy in Syrtis Major.
5. Penny was shot dead after taking out two of the ambushers. Harriet was probably wounded, and fled.
6. Louis killed the first two ambushers, and managed to take a rifle and ammo from one of them.
7. Louis had tailed Derry to the canal, found Verinus’ boat, and observed the Martian loading several crates of Winchester repeaters, which had manifestly not come from Derry’s armory.
