Lessons from the Past lead to Hidden Depths

Hidden Depths

Aided by your old friend Ashur Sungazer, at Phelar University, you traveled to Koler in the Deep Core and found the ancient wreck of the Sanctuary.  The creaking shattered vessel still held a few dangerous surprises and the dark side of the force lay in the shadows.  A lumbering war droid challenged your growing power but was no match.  Among the remnants of Jedi master Val Isa's defiant stand against the Mandalorians you found a rare holocron.

Excited by the potential locked inside the holocron your smuggler friend returns you to Phelar, on her way to another job, so you may study its secrets.

The holocron is a wealth of information but is not unlimited and the knowledge is several thousand years old.  However it contains a great deal of basic Jedi instruction - including basic lightsaber technique.

You may count Discipline and Medicine as career skills as long as you possess the holocron.

When making a Knowledge (Lore) check to learn about the Jedi, you may use the holocron to make an assisted check.  The holocron counts as having 3 ranks in Knowledge (Lore)

Lessons from the Past lead to Hidden Depths

Weeks quickly pass as you intensely study the holocron and practice its lessons.  You have all the information you need to craft a lightsaber of your own.  The necessary parts for a basic hilt can be found relatively easily.  But a crystal is an entirely different story.  For centuries Ilum was the sole source of crystals for the Jedi order.  Now that planet is fiercely guarded by the Empire and attempts at landing on its surface would be suicide.

One evening you receive a call on your comlink from your scholar friend.  He loathes the Empire for hindering his quest for knowledge but keeps his opinions a secret to everyone but you.

Ashur quickly launches forth without saying hello.

"My friend.  I have some information that may excite you.  A colleague of mine in the Geology department mentioned a planet Phemis in the Corellian sector recently underwent some significant tectonic movement.  He dismissed it as purely academic as Phemis is a backwater planet of little interest except for a number of small mining operations on its surface.  So imagine my surprise when a... well... associate that procures things for me, mentioned a sharp increase in Imperial patrols in that sector."

He speeds from thought to thought never pausing for a moment

"I did a little research and found a law dating back to the Old Republic that forbids the mining of a particular, shall we say special, crystal.  Kyber crystals!" He shouts.

"The properties of these Kyber crystals are very very close to the Ilum crystals you were inquiring about.  Close enough to make mere possession of one a severely punishable offense."

Now you are free to pursue any strategy for obtaining information, transportation, etc.
Describe your characters actions as a narrative and put any other text in red.
Lets see how it works.
Good luck.

The glee is evident in Ahur's voice

"I will set up a call for you with my geology colleague."

Make a Knowledge (Core) check with normal difficulty (2 difficulty die) plus 1 bonus for help from Ashur's colleague.
So the dice pool will be 2 green + 2 purple + 1 blue.

Lessons from the Past lead to Hidden Depths

In reply to Revan Kun (msg # 5):

Ashurs colleague meets you at a tapcaf not far from campus.  He is under the belief that geology is a hobby for you and launches directly into talking about Phemis with little small talk.

Corellian explorers discovered Phemis early in the history of the Old Republic. The records of the planet date back several thousand years and the planet would have likely avoided even the meager attention it received if not for a strange curiosity noticed by the initial surveyors - signs of repeated visitation by unknown offworlders.  This oddity piqued further interest in the planet by commercial and scientific interests hoping to find something of value.  These investigations laid the groundwork for the mines that operate on Phemis to this day.

Phemis is firmly within the habitable zone of its star, and its climate is generally mild.  It has little to offer in the way of flat surfaces for construction, with jutting rocks, deep canyons, and towering mountains covering most of its surface.  Because of these obstacles, the corporations with mining claims to Phemis typically establish their operations inside known cave networks and expand from there, rather than attempting to create new sites.

The only above ground constructions on Phemis are the various loading ports and docks for cargo shuttles used to carry away the ore mined deep beneath them.

Phemis is currently interdicted by Imperial order due to a few small deposits of Kyber crystals.  We can't even get samples of them here at the university.  But if somebody was very... determined to study these crystals then an opportunity has arisen.  The groundquakes on this planet are quite extreme.  A huge fissure has recently opened in the crust and due to increased Imperial presence it is a good bet that Kyber crystals have been exposed.

Lessons from the Past lead to Hidden Depths

In reply to Revan Kun (msg # 7):

The geologist pauses and seems to be pondering your question.

I do know where the fissure is located on the planet.  There are only a handful of operations on the planet.  I am not aware of their exact locations but it shouldn't be very hard for you to find out.  I do now that the miners are all well trained in evacuation procedures and would have a fled the planet for a quake of this magnitude.  They probably won't stay away long and may even be returning to normal operations now.

He measures you briefly, seeming to consider if he wants to continue.

Since you are a friend of Ashur I'm sure  you don't bind skirting regulations to get to what you need.  Imperial activity noticeably increased since the quake.  A skilled pilot that knows how to evade Imperial detection could probably get you on planet.  Just make sure they can get you back off.

Feel free to decide on a course of action and roll what you think would be an appropriate skill check in future posts.  You don't have to wait for me to always tell you what to roll. Although I still will at times of course

Also you can add to the story as you see fit.  This sort of play style lends itself to cooperative storytelling.  I will adapt anything you add to my story.

In reply to Revan Kun (msg # 9):

Taking a moment to calm yourself you put one hand on your amulet and reach out to the Force to guide you.  Winding through the crowded city streets you travel farther and farther away from the university.  The people of the city blur around you as you walk.  Soon you are standing in front of a cantina on the outskirts of the city spaceport.  Sublight engines criss cross the sky as ships takeoff and land.

Your eyes adjust to the dim lighting as you enter the cantina.  Loud music fills every corner, perfectly drowning out conversations that don't want to be heard.  Scanning the area you take a deep breath and again tap into the Force.  You move to the back corner of the room and an empty booth.  Just as you wonder if your recent training has failed you a voice right behind you jars your nerves.

Mata Hari will now introduce herself to you and the mission.  You now have 2 Destiny points due to having 2 characters in your party.

In reply to GM CoAlGun (msg # 10):

Phemis doesn't have a welcome mat.  You will need some help getting planetside.  Luckily you came to the right place.  I haven't seen you conducting business here before so I'm not sure how you found it but you are a friend of Ashur so we share common ground.

We both want to get to Phemis, although I'm guessing for different reasons.  The Empire has given ore rights to a new corp that was just getting operations set up when the quake hit.  This corp will be using slave labor and I'm going to shut it down before it starts.  Help me terminate that corp and I'll get you to the caves you seek.

Have a drink.  I'll be right back

Rolling Streetwise to find a pilot

Dice Roll:

3 successes, 1 triumph, 2 threats on a roll of 1 Ability, 2 Proficiency, 2 Difficulty, 1 Boost

Returning to the table with a grin Mata Hari leans slightly over the table

We are in luck.  A top notch pilot (Due to the Triumph) is heading to that system and has agreed to take us on as passengers.  This guy is no normal freighter jockey and will be good to have on our side if blaster bolts start flying.  The only problem is he's leaving now. No time to scrounge supplies. (Due to the 2 Threats rolled)
