Traag looks at the diplomat and frowns deeply at all the empty pleasantries. If not for the fact he grew up among diplomats he would be offended to the core. But he just nods I suppose the "honor" is yours to enjoy, who am I to deny you.
He moves to sit with the fellow.
Then he looks quickly at Steve, Senior of what? We've got a Captain, an XO and LT Shah, or are you emptying the whole bridge?

"Perhaps the entire bridge crew is already on Risa?"  Zarek opines snippily.  "As far as I can tell, Lieutenant Traag appears to be the only Senior Officer remaining on board."  Turning to address Traag directly "So yes Lieutenant, as far as I am concerned..." with a cold edge "...this is your ship."

Addressing Cable with a smile "1800 tomorrow Lieutenant.  Enjoy your stay on Risa."

Turning back to Traag, the smile quickly fading "Lieutenant Traag and I have much to discuss and it is getting late."

Right then, glad that's clear Traag says to Steve. He sees the young woman standing there but says nothing, there has been no direct question to him regarding her, he has no interest in controling her actions one way or another. He looks at the diplomat who suddenly grew snippy.

Traag gets himself a snack from the replicator and sits, he takes a few bites of his meal
He looks at the diplomat with no emotion whatsoever.

Bland. He says.
It's like something's missing from the machine. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

After waiting for one Lieutenant to excuse himself and the other to get a snack, I turn to Yeoman Filcher and pleasantly inform her "Well Yeoman, it has been a pleasure, but I do not think that I require your presence any further today.  You are dismissed to your regular duties.  Enjoy yourself on Risa."

Once Traag and I are alone in the Officers Lounge, I noticeably relax into the Standard Issue Starfleet Duraplast chair.  Closing my eyes and reaching above my head - my back cracking audibly - casually addressing Traag "I'm going to be blunt Lieutenant.  Is there a reason crewman aboard the Minerva would believe that you would shoot an unarmed Diplomat?  I'm sure someone in your position..." gesturing casually at Traag's Redshirt and Tactical chevrons "...can understand how talk like that can be a concern to an Ambassadors aide.

So I ask you, Lieutenant:  Do the Ambassador or I have a legitimate reason to suspect that we will be shot by you?"

Traag chuckles evidently pleased. His chuckles turn to outright guffaws.
I'm a man of law and order. If I have evidence against you or your boss, I will do whatever is needed to enforce the law. I expect everyone to perform by the book and exemplify discipline

He speaks to the room. I dare say that's one thing I find mighty lackluster in my first weeks on this boat. We are a Star Ship representing the Line of Starfleet none of you should tolerate the laxity thus presented

He looks back at the fellow. I question the professionalism of your investigation. ... But it is nice people think of me, even if it's only out of fear and suspicion. Ha hehe.

He eats some more and speaks while chewing.

So, you and your DV will be on board? Have you met LT Shah? She's security chief. I just transferred here against my will after killing some ghost monster that attacked my station. Your boss a ghost monster? I might kill him if so. Not sure the laws on that sort of thing may have to look it up first. Otherwise I wasn't briefed about you, another example of crappy administration. Maybe you can scuttle off to another boat?

In reply to Andaari Traag (msg # 9):

Leaning back and laughing with Traag "Excellent!  I am pleased to see my own observations validated.  The Ambassador was originally scheduled to be picked up by the Enterprise and I assumed that the Minerva would be a close second to that storied ship."  Shaking my head a bit "Sadly, I'm considering booking passage to P'Jem on an Andorian Freighter for the Ambassador.  I am sure they would be better versed in diplomatic protocol than I have seen demonstrated here today."

Ticking off offenses on my fingers "Minerva's Diplomatic Liaison Officer failed to meet Staff of the Ambassador when they transported aboard.

Preparations for the Ambassador's travel have been hurried, lackluster and performed at the last minute - on an ad-hoc, volunteer basis it would appear.  Whereas the crew rotations for leave on Risa seem to have been well thought out in advance.

Starfleet Officers from the Ambassadors planet, serving on Minerva, are conspicuously absent or unavailable during preliminary investigative rounds.

The shuttle that will be transporting the Ambassador has been dual-purposed for recreational use prior to use by the Ambassador - and has been made suspiciously unavailable for inspection by the Ambassador's staff."

"And accommodations..."
letting out a tired, exasperated, breath.  "Starfleet regulations spell out, in detail, that members of an Ambassadorial delegation are to be quartered adjacently to one another and that all members of the delegation will enjoy privacy from the members of the crew.  That is a time honored protocol that even Starfleet Diplomats are accorded by other races.  The Ambassador will be using Doctor Javari's quarters during his journey - a situation that will... suffice."

Leaning back in the Duraplast chair with a knowing smirk "So tell me Lieutenant Traag - in your professional opinion, and according to Starfleet and generally accepted diplomatic protocol, where would you quarter the Ambassador's Adjutant?  As a corollary, where would be the worst possible place to quarter said Adjutant?"

The Tellarite looks puzzled. You expect? he shrugs. I'm not sure I follow. Let's start at the beginning. You work for an Ambassador of some sort, and you want your selves to get set up on this ship? Or was it an order from higher command? Then you what? You spoke to the captain and got rooms assigned did you or not? Who is your primary contact here? Usually when orders are cut everyone involved would be notified you would have an appointment with security, medical, and admin with a protocol officer and such. I am suspecting you of doing some sideways hanky-panky here. LT Shan is off duty now, so unless you already met, it will be a bit.

This whole conversation doesn't make sense. Do you even have a security contractor? A professional would not have come in here accusing, that's a little stupid since if I am an assassin I would have said the same thing I said. And I suspect your information was pathetic for you to change tack so quickly. A real security professional would have ignored that or investigated.

Maybe you can be clear. Are you making a request of me? What is your situation on this ship?

Traag wonders if he should escort the fellow elsewhere for assistance.

In reply to Andaari Traag (msg # 13):

Hooking a casual thumb back towards the fleeing officers "I was referring to our... impassioned... discussion as the impetus for the arrival of Lieutenant Shah."

"So, even though you dodged my question by asking several of your own, I will answer yours as I am able.

I am a Starfleet Officer on an Officer Exchange tour with the Vulcan Diplomatic Corps.  I am assigned as Adjutant and Liaison under Vulcan Ambassador Sokketh, who is directly subordinate to Ambassador Sarek - Vulcan's Representative to the Federation.

The Vulcan Embassy made arrangements with Starfleet for the USS Enterprise to convey Ambassador Sokketh and myself to the Monastery at P'Jem.  For some unknown reason, those orders were transferred to the Minerva.

T'Ling with the Vulcan Embassy has been in contact with Lieutenant Kirk aboard ship and I was instructed to contact the Lieutenant in order to make my initial observations.  I did so, and those arrangements were made for a time convenient to the MinervaI requested an escort - as it would be 'undiplomatic' to wander around your ship and poke my nose in wherever it suited me.

So yes, I agree with you fully:  when orders are cut everyone involved should be notified and I would have an appointment with Security, Medical, Admin and Protocol.  But those involved apparently have not been notified; I am here for the appointment, and the Minerva is failing to meet muster.  No 'sideways hanky-panky' here - just an officer doing his job.

I have already sought out Medical on my own and I am currently discussing issues that I see with the Senior Security Officer aboard Minerva.  I expect that if I continue to make enough of a fuss, that I will soon be meeting with Administrative and Protocol Staff.

I have already said that I am no security professional, that is why I asked your professional opinion.  So, returning to my questions; according to established Diplomatic Protocols, where would you quarter a Senior Ambassador's Adjutant aboard the Minerva?  And where would the worst possible quarters be located?

Right then.
I won't answer questions that are out of my lane. I've got no desire to create problems by saying you should have something admin doesn't wish to provide. You can check the regs on that stuff better than I can. I would guess it hase words like "where practical", "usually", or "per captains order".

For now I guess I'm forced to escort you back to Kirk and give em hell for not arranging all your appointments. I don't want it said we don't support our diplomats.

For the security interview I want you to give me files on your boss, any threats, expertise and prior assignments. As well as anything that gave you reason to ask about potential assassins and who told you I was a suspect and how.

Is that all?

"So..." rolling my eyes upwards in thought "...above your paygrade.  Noted."

Addressing Traag directly "I asked your professional opinion, Lieutenant, not in an effort to trap you into accommodating some egotistical whim - but rather to check if my interpretation of Common Sense is in alignment with others.  My experience with Tellarites has been they have a singular ability to perceive, and express, contrary viewpoints during a discussion - a trait most useful for analytical problem solving."

Leaning forward with a serious expression - left elbow on the table; forefinger tapping the bottom of my lip "Do you snore Lieutenant?"

My contrarian point of view is that if you want to know about my sleep habits or hygein I consider that sexual harassment.

Else wise your sychophantic self pity and manipulation and worst yet your insane accusations followed by ass kissing have left me with no interest whatsoever in helping. Perhaps you can return to bore the ears off LT Kirk?

Of course it is. Traag says it like a curse. Listen, I've got some diplomat here, Thiel winging on about his wants and needs. He says you were getting him and the ambassador set up. How far did you get? What more is required?

He says, while thinking less complementary things about all involved.

"Well, I spoke to the attache here. They said transport the ambassador, he's on a religious retreat and not to bother him. No one said anything else, Capt. Kirk relayed no special handling instructions so likely Star Fleet didn't issue any. we're just a cab ride not a hotel so to speak."

"Unrelated; when we picked up new crew at K-8 one was a diplomatic aide. But he was killed by the Ghosts, no one else like him is aboard, we primarily do military patrols, not as equipped as a Constitution for exploration or long range mapping."

Listening politely and smiling in triumph as Traag avoids answering the question again "That is the third time you have avoided my question.  Do you have something to hide?  Perhaps you should have been informed about the billeting arrangements for our little jaunt - Roomie."

Leaning back and letting that final word sink in.

"I was informed that I will be sharing your quarters Lieutenant, so knowing whether you snore is a relevant concern for me.  I am sure you will be fine with those arrangements - Law and Order and all that - despite the fact that Starfleet Diplomatic Protocol and Etiquette Regulations, Section 7-1, Paragraph C, Sub-section 8 specifically states, and I quote:  The living accommodations of Diplomatic Aides, at the least, shall be single rooms in distinguished visitors quarters.  Room assignments shall be in keeping with their status as members of a dignitary’s party rather than their rank.

I do not know much about Starfleet ship operational regulations, but I do know the Diplomatic Regs.  Don't take my word Lieutenant - verify for yourself."

Pushing slowly off the table with both hands into a respectful standing posture "Thank you for your time Lieutenant.  It is obvious that nobody aboard is interested in remedying the deficiencies that I have observed, so I will take my leave."

Traag laughs a hearty guffaw. So that's the method of your manipulation! he sits back. Just acting like an annoying passive aggressive crybaby with outlandish accusations and sudden mood changes so I would be irritated enough to take your side and get you what you want. Well, no dice. This is a small ship not an enterprise. If they put your boss with the doc and you with me it's hard cheese for us. Knowing my luck the fact I have experience with diplomats contributed to my terrible fortune. Now you're not permitted anywhere unaccompanied. Just wait - I'll get you another Yoeman to escort you to the transporter.

He gets on the communicator.

Security this is LT Traag, send someone over to escort a guest, out.

Okay, so you still want a security review regarding threats to the ambassador or is that not really necessary?

Carry on Ensign. You will be escorting the LT here. He needs to get his ID checked and registered and start the processing for he and the Vulcan ambassador to gain limited ship access and be scheduled for orientation as well as safety and emergency protocol classes. Please make sure LT Kirk and I get copies of their schedule.

He looks back at the LT waiting for another long winded snarky diatribe.

"I see I have moved up in the world now.  An Ensign escort now instead of a Yeoman."  Addressing the newly arrived Ensign "If you would be so kind as to escort me to Transporter Room 1 Ensign Palmeiro - Chief Komack will be able to return me to Risa.  It would appear that I have offended someones tender sensibilities."

Facing Traag "I am pleased that you accept responsibility for the safety and well-being of the Ambassador, Lieutenant.  T'Ling, with the Vulcan Embassy, will forward the appropriate files to your attention.  You have no need of our schedules prior to 1800 tomorrow.  Good evening."

Following the Ensign out of the lounge, I stop at the entry, and without turning say to Traag "I am truly sorry for your recent crew losses.  Rom khru Lieutenant Traag."  Picking up my pace, I leave without a glance towards Transporter Room 1.
