Re: Act 1: The Track to Enon Tor
As a testament to Spryll's inexperience, he has not been paying much attention to the road.  The halfling is feeling quite buoyed by the completion of the mission, and chit-chatting with his friends.

Then, elves!  Now elves were a wondrous and also terrible people.  With a single immortal gaze, they seemed to look into your very life and know you, judge you even.  Some said they lived forever and only died from sadness or an iron blade in the heart (and good luck getting the blade there, they were supposed to be the best fighters anywhere).  Some said they were fickle and might slay you just because they were bored or you stamped on the wrong plant.

Whatever ridiculous thing Spryll is saying at the moment, he shuts up and pays attention to what the elves were about to.

Re: Act 1: The Track to Enon Tor
The two elves, wearing well-fitting leathers and carrying swords and bows, approach the party openly.

"Hello!" one says in Common. "My name is Elebrilas. Who might you six be?"

Do the Elves have drawn steel, or arrows notched?

Trying to make like a squirrel, Spryll edges towards a tree and says nothing.  Concern and a genuine look of awe is his expression, not shifty-eyedness or anything aggressive.

The elves, while armed, are not carrying their swords unsheathed -- or their bows with arrows nocked.

In reply to DM (msg # 174):

Upon seeing the Elves, Thrardril's fingers caressed the edge of his battle ax, but he did not make any obvious aggressive motions. He was a Dwarf, and his kind did not trust the Elves, nor have much liking of them. He just watched the two, for the time being.

Re: Act 1: The Track to Enon Tor
Seeing the concern and hesitation of the halfling and the dwarf, the two elves stop their approach and stand still, hands in a non-threatening gesture.

"And my name is Tinilith," the other elf says, also in Common. "We mean you no harm."

"I am Tavin," the priest said as he held up an empty palm in greeting. "The Younger," he added in case they knew the other Tavin. "What brings you on this road this day?"

As Tavin and Argon had spoken for the group, Ryland remained silent for the time being, watching the conversation with interest.

Spryll too was content that these were friendly elves.  He wondered how friendly they would be to Karthedon if they found him cleaning up a mess of bodies.

"Ahhh," he said timidly before speaking up, "ahhm, good friend elves, have you visited Karthedon before?"

"Yes, we were just there.  He has been through an ordeal," Spryll replies truthfully.

"He may not be able to receive visitors just this day, but I, uhm, we, can't speak for him of course."

The halfling is looking at the elves very closely, marveling in their alien features and exotic-looking items.  "I'm sorry I do not mean to stare so."

Re: Act 1: The Track to Enon Tor
Their eyebrows noticeably raise. "Zombies?" Elebrilas says, surprised. "We've heard reports of growing orc incursions in these lands, but not of zombies." He turns to Tinilith. "Perhaps we should hasten and see what assistance we can offer Karthedon."

" Karthedon is the bastard making the Zombies. He uses them as servants, the black hearted rogue. We found Orcs in his place, they where doing his bidding, I'd wager." Said the Dwarf in total disgust.

Their eyebrows remain raised. "That does not sound like the Karthedon we know," Elebrilas says. "Be well, good people. Perhaps our paths shall cross again."

They prepare to take their leave and continue past the party.

Re: Act 1: The Track to Enon Tor
"Safe travels, friends," Spryll says as he gives Elebrilas and Tinilith a wave good-bye.  He decides that, while the totality of stories and warnings and say-sos of his kind were no doubt correct, these elves were good people.

Maybe it was because they were here, in human lands, and the environment helped shape what people you were.  What was the old hin saying?  Sleep beside the dog and you get fleas!

The halfling does hope the rest of the trip to Borth is quiet.  He could use a holiday to calm his nerves a little and decide what to do next.  Going back home seemed wisest, but he knew what kind of life was in store for him there.  Spryll ponders just what kind of things he might see if he stayed in this place even a month more!
