Captain Marvel Physical stress d10

Watcher rolled 6,3,1,8 using d6,d6,d6,d10 ((6,3,1,8)).

Total: 14, Effect: d6

1 Opportunity (available first to Capt. Marvel)

Action succeeds; Capt. Marvel moves to embassy group

Capt. Marvel is able to pick herself from the rubble around her, the surroundings, with the city block nearly leveled, is in worse shape than she is in, though that is not to say that she is in any decent condition. She's been worse -- even recently, having only barely survived the Hydra warehouse incident -- but this attack from the soaring Doombots reminds her that maybe she doesn't have to be the bruiser of the team every time. She recovers enough to take to the sky, quickly reaching above the heights of the adjacent buildings, even if that puts her in the thick of the robot hoard. But as she would know perhaps better than anyone, sometimes the only way out is through. Once she gets through the scrum of Doombots, the other side should put her halfway to the Latverian embassy, assuming she is pointed in the correct direction.

With a few more scrapes from the Doombots she whizzes past, she reaches a clearing in their number, then the embassy building in her sights. Though that alleviation of the android threat she discovers does not come from her masterful aerial skills but rather that the Doombots cease their action a block away from the embassy structure. As if there is a line in the street and the sky, the Doombots taking action stop, not to cross -- one side the Doombots raging a war against the Wrecking Crew, on the other, the existent Doombots frozen, though poised on an edge for attack.

Never one to back down from a fight or flee from a scene when there is danger afoot or a city threatened, the captain makes her way to the midst of the embassy. The static Doombots there stand in a semi-circle facing the stairs leading to the middle of the embassy building, with the other heroes in between.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The Doombots are as muted and motionless as the heroes, neither side making a move. Though as the heroes linger doing nothing, the robots, though still, seem to move in. As the smoke and dust in the clears, the Doombots appear to draw closer, even though to look directly at them they have not shifted even an inch. But looking at them could reveal, possibly, and perhaps due to the dust dissipating, that the intensity of their glowing eyes has increased, as has the crackling energy around their hands, now more than the low-wattage it was just moments ago, or so it seems. Though the Doombots still do not move, they outnumber the heroes dozens to one, making an easy conquest by sheer numbers if they decided to move again.

An explosion rings out, in the direction from which Iron Fist and Captain Marvel came. Though there is nothing to see from this distance, the sound is clear as is the unmistakable sound of the Wrecker's voice belting "Go! Go! Destroy! Destroy!" over the din coming from that direction. Though it was only a distant noise moments ago, it seems louder now, as if it is getting closer, the destruction in that area widening its radius, threatening to overtake the city before long.

Grandstanding:+3d8 to Doom Pool from the Wrecking Crew and Doombots

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Carol sees her destination: the partially destroyed embassy with the assembled Avengers and various hangers-on loitering, surrounded by Doombots. Wait, not surrounded...being herded by the Doombots. Obviously, their master is ready to reveal himself. If indeed it is their master and creator and not an even more powerful and independent version of the others.

Still smarting from her injury, Carol flies into the milling throng of superheroestm landing a little awkwardly.

Thanks for waiting for me, Avengers. This is it. I'm sure we all know who we're facing here, so I think we're ready for him...

Carol ascends the stairs (or descends!) to the center of the embassy.

Carol is going to attempt to create an asset for the next scene: "We Know It's You, Doom"
Team: D10
Homeland Security Hero: D4 (there's a chance she's completely wrong and she knows what they're doing is legally dubious)
Psych Expert: D8 (this is the most dangerous battlefield of all: statecraft-know your enemy)

Captain Marvel rolled 2,2,10 using d8,d4,d10

Total: 16, Effect: d10
1 Opportunity (available first to Capt. Marvel)

Attempt fails

Though none of the heroes assembled in the midst of the platoon of Doombots are active Avengers, they stand nobly like the team, if still and silently. Captain Marvel lands more awkwardly than a hero would prefer, yet the androids standing in wait still do not move, even to acknowledge her.

Marvel realizes there is nothing to indicate who is behind the actions of the Doombots or who is responsible for their control, save for this location being the Latverian embassy. Though she can discern nothing in particular about the origins of the Doombots, the slightly-ajar door could be the next clue in getting to the bottom of this, before the widening destruction just blocks away flattens the city.

Out of everything in the nearly-obliterated embassy building, the only thing that moves is the dust settling and Captain Marvel moving up the stairs to the door.

"Jen, we gotta get outta here." Logan says as he sees his friend sway unsteady.  He glances over at Captain Marvel. Hopefully by now she had forgiven chuck and Rouge for what had happened in the past, but he of all people would get it if she had not. Still, Jen had nothing to do with that.

"Carol, I gotta get Jen to someplace safe..."
he said to her.

Iron Fist raises his hands in the air in mock surrender.

"Jen, I have an idea.  Go with me on this.  We do this then move (Iron Fist eyes the golden door). Ake-may, an-ay, arthquake-ey, ow-nay!"

With that, Iron Fist's hands glow, and he then abruptly smashes them to the ground. The desired effect being to make a ground rumbling asset against the  Doombots (do I got that right?) so they can't get a clear shot.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

She-hulk looks around confused. Whether it's because of the chaos, her cuncusion, or a combination is hard to say. She starts at the sound of the explosion in the distance, then sees Iron Fist and Carol suddenly there. "Wait. Weren't you fighting the Wrecker? Why is he still yelling? You guys CAN hear that right?" she asks IF. Then to Carol, "And when did YOU get here?" she asks Carol.

"You wanna take me home?" she asks Logan, giggling a little that turns into a wracking cough. "I hear you're the 'best there is at what you do.'" she adds with a lopsided grin that the bruising and puffiness of her face makes anything but attractive.

Honestly kind of lost as to what's going on now. I get there are still operational but mostly passive doombots at the embassy and it seems like most of us are gathered here. And there's still the ominous golden door. But Wrecker and more doombots are off in the distance wrecking the city now??

Can I try some kind of recovery roll here... I've got a lot of damage. Not like I'm gonna beat that doom pool though.

Sorry, IF, not going to be able to help you with that earthquake. That would probably be an aid action anyway and you already rolled your pool.

OOC: Basically, what I'm trying to do is make it harder for the Doombots to hit us when we make a break for the golden door.  Because I'm thinking the moment we move a muscle, they're going to come out guns blazing.  So I figure better make it harder for them to hit us.

Iron Fist brings his eponymous hand down to shatter the floor. Unfortunately for the hero, the ground refuses to give, but the shock shakes the floor enough to topple a smatter of the surrounding Doombots. A few fall into each other like the shortest series of dominoes, taking each other down, but their joints not bending, falling like a leaden toy solider. The only movement they make is falling. The floor is broken up, perhaps providing some cover from an attack, but also making walking atop it a new challenge.

The Doombots continue their frozen stances even as the heroes move on their own. The robots do not move their heads to track the heroes, or to even watch Captain Marvel ascending the staircase, but still stare dead ahead, which happens to be just where the heroes are assembled. It could be more dust settling but their eyes seem to blaze more intensely, as even more of their number are revealed behind the ones in front.

"Yeah, I am sure your cousin would be real happy about that. To hell with this-we are going." Logan was fairly sure he could lift Jen, but her raw size...and his lack of size would make balancing her difficult. Particularly if she put up a fight. She was in no shape to fight him or anyone else right now-but Logan wanted her well, not hurt worse. He doubted she could even leap herself out of here right now.

So, he proceeded to get under her arm, and tried to move her out and away from the circle of doombots. He wanted Carol to fly down and scoop her up, but if those things activated he would need her to delay them while he got away with Jen. He just needed an abandoned car in reasonable good shape.

Carol stands in front of Wolverine, who is trying to carry Jen out.

"Y'know, the Wolverine I know wouldn't run from a fight. Jen's a big girl...I've seen her get more trashed on a ladies night out. She's a HULK for pity's sake!"

Carol addresses Jen,"I saw what was going on a little while ago. It just took me a while to get over here. Sorry I'm late."

Carol looks at this small grouping of heroes, these are her friends, those she has stood shoulder to shoulder with in countless battles. She swells with pride that these are the heroes she gets to face an unknown threat with. Together, they are able to face any adversary that no hero can face alone.

"Whoever is behind that door wants us here. I think that's why the Doombots herded us to this door. But, it's now or never. We're hurt, we're demoralized," Carol looks at Wolverine, "But we are THE AVENGERS. Let's go avenge the damn city."

She turns to YJ, anger clear on her face even through the bruising and swelling. "Gettin' tired of the accusations Pym. I didn't see you doing anything to detain those escaped, DANGEROUS, super-criminals. Maybe you want to go a few rounds? I still got enough gas in the tank. Maybe you'd be more willing to hit an already battered girl than you would the big, bad Wrecking Crew." She needles him.

Her outburst done, she turns back to Carol, "Let's finish this. You gonna knock?"

Yellowjacket shrinks, leaving the remaining part of the building overhead that had shifted in the avalanche to rest on him to creak and threaten to fall, not in a comparable collapse but leaving what is remaining in an unsteady state.

Buying Yellowjacket's Too Big! Complication d10 to add to Doom Pool

As the heroes -- none of which being Avengers, at least not currently active ones, if ever part of the team -- squabble among themselves, the Doombots look on, silent and unmoving. Even as the heroes move at their individual rates up the stairs and toward the door, the androids remain pointed toward the center of the semi-circle their number has formed. Though their metal bodies do not move even the smallest fraction of an amount, there is still a feeling that the red, glowing dots that represent their eyes are following the heroes, tracking their movements even while they make no movements themselves.

From inside the room through the opening comes a voice loud and booming enough to rattle the door: "Enter. If you must."

If there are any heroes not moving up the stairs and toward the door, please state your action now. Otherwise, I will assume they are all entering that room.

"Crap!" Logan growled. Their chance for escape was gone. Carol could have flown Jen out of here. However, he knew Jen well enough she would resist, and maybe be able to stop Carol and him and anyone else-just enough to get herself hurt worse or killed.

That being said, what Logan knew of Vicki this whole thing was not like him. He wanted to prove himself smarter than Richards-and this whole mess made him look like just another terrorists attacking New York. No great design, not proof of superiority other than brute force, and no way to make the situation better for Doom.

"You got your wish, Jen." He grumbled, and helped her up and proceeded to let her lean on him as they both headed to the stairs, in order to walk into the room. Given how that metal faced lunatic loved to gloat and brag, at least they might figure out what the hell was going on.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The door opens into an domain of darkness, as the size of the room swallows the light.  The chamber's immense walls are fortified with concrete supports to disregard any harm from the  outside and the space is bare, save for the activity on the far side, directly across from the entrance.  A wide, green carpet spreads across the room over a gold floor that strives to shine in the low light.  The carpet leads up steps to a platform upon which a massive gold throne sits, the back of it facing the approaching heroes.  Above the throne, the far wall is covered by a bank of computer monitors, of various shapes and sizes, colors and resolutions.  In each is the viewpoint of a camera in a manic mission, each from a different angle of a scene familiar to the heroes that were a few blocks away at the scene of chaos and destruction but from a high angle, and with a frenzied motion, whipping right and left, up and down.  The three members of the Wrecking Crew feature prominently in many of the shots, the men combating the cameras coming at them.  Sporadically, a video will burst into grainy, monochrome static before being replaced with a new shot, from a different vantage point.  The angles are quick, crazed motion, as if the cameras are adroitly mobile but moving at a crazed pace, too many to follow if trying to get an overall view.  Blocks of text come up on random monitors, blasting lines too quickly to read then being replaced with another image or more text.  On one of the screens is a diagram of the skeleton of a body, which could be anyone save for the close-up of three claws extended from an arm.  The room is illuminated by the light of the monitors and the reflections from the many shining surfaces.  There are no windows and no other apparent exits from the room.

On opposite sides of the platform are doorways, but only the frames, leading nowhere.  Every few moments, the space in the interior of the frames becomes opaque in a shimmering light and the energy coalesces to produce a Doombot, which, when fully formed, steps from the doorway and to the side, into the darkness in the corners of the room which, upon further inspection as eyes adjust to the dim light, are filled with crowds of Doombots, the multitude stacked in neat rows as they collect at the ready, standing tall and silent with eyes glowing minimally.

Behind the heroes, over their shoulders and just beyond arm's reach, a round, human head-sized drone adorned with sensors and lenses bobs quietly in the air.

As the heroes make their way into the room, the throne dominating the stage before them pivots, turning around fully to reveal the form of Dr. Victor Von Doom, in full armor, reclining in the ornate golden seat.  His regal, green robes hang from his rested posture and in one hand he holds a goblet as bejeweled as the chair upon which he sits.  The other hand rests on the arm of the throne, which is covered with buttons and LED lights of varying sizes, some flickering and a few blinking, with one prominent, red button at the center of them, just under Doom’s armored fingertips.

His voice is tinny like the Doombots’, filtered through the mechanics of his metallic mask.  “Ah, the so-called heroes, come to bow before the might of Doom!
