Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

YJ lands and turns back to normal size, "In a sort of round about way. I do bow to his skills. But every so often one of his simulacra get out of hand or altered. I would like you to send a message to the Ruler of Latveria that my employer Hank Pym wishes to seeks to exchange robotics knowledge. Ultron remains a thorn in his side and unlike Doctor Doom he can not find a countermeasure."

He bows his head and yellowjacket flies in and drops another USB stick on the camera console, "If he is interested the contact information is there."

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

"What the hell do you want, Vicki?" Logan growled. "You made a big mess, the US military is gonna take this as an invasion, you will lose your diplomatic immunity, and Richards will freaking laughing at your stupid plan. So what's the point of all this?" He recalled everytime he had tussled with Doom before-and the one weakness he had was total arrogance when compared to Richards. Plus he was a total blabbermouth about his plans. Despite his armored form, Logan could sense the emotions under the metal by his scent and hearing. Extending his claws also always made a point...of course doing so while Doom is in his throne room surrounded by his robots may not have been his best plan.

A slot in the top of the drone opens and Yellowjacket's USB drive drops inside. As the hero flies around the device, a red light pops on near one of the object's various lenses. The thin, red laser seems to do no harm but it follows the insect-sized hero unerringly.

The sigh from Doom's mask is a deep, slow rattling. "I occasionally expect more from you, mutant. I am always disappointed." Doom fixes a gaze upon Logan from eyes hidden in the abyss that is his mask. "You bring juvenile insults repeated witlessly from our previous encounters as well as cowardice. If it is important for you to leave, I invite you to do so. You will not be harmed. Though I will consider your flight a surrender to Doom. I had assumed your adamantium skeleton extended to your spine."

"As for you others, I want nothing from you, since you are far below having value to Doom or to the sovereign nation of Latveria. But apparently you want -- nay, need -- something from me."

She-hulk winces at the exchange between Logan and Doom. She thought Logan's mention of Richards might work, but it would apparently take more than that to get over Doom's ego.

She waits to see what Doom says in reply to Iron Fist. If this came to fighting again, she didn't have much hope for the heroes. Doom just had too much advantage here in his lair.

Carol hates armored masks. You can never tell what someone is thinking--all the usual tells and quirks are hidden. And Doom is smart, always playing a game designed to show off his "superiority" while masking his deficiencies from his numerous defeats over the years. If only they had a mind reader on the team.

"I'm with Iron Fist. What do you want? This whole scenario never had to escalate this far. Withdraw your Doombots, you're not gaining anything from destroying the city, and you're not the kind of man to draw attention to yourself like this. This all started by accident, there's no need to continue."

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Wolverine's stress transferred to physical and recovered

Missing Wolverine's gesture, only Doom's head moves, his body showing no physical reaction to the heroes' words. "Disappointingly but predictably, your narrow, minimal minds focus on only what is in front of you. The answer to what Doom wants is the most obvious: To defend my own, the grand nation of Latveria. You would do the same, with your limited abilities, if you were not so concerned with being crude aggressors against an obviously far greater power."

The screens behind Doom and his throne continue to show the battle between the Doombots and the Wrecking Crew, in a patchwork of differing, chaotic angles. The Wrecker has backed up to further down the block from where he started and found a new, untouched building from which to take thick chunks of brick, rebar, and concrete to hurl at the Doombots. He does not take his eyes off his robotic opponents, not checking the building he is tearing apart in case there might be people inside of it.

Elsewhere on the wall of monitors, the Falcon and his avian sidekick Redwing fly through another screen before disappearing from it, then the screen itself bursts into static until it recovers as an angle hurtling toward Piledriver, who is ready to smash it with a car that is turned away to obscure showing if there is anyone in it.

The groups of Doombots flanking Doom's throne do not move, save for those coming through the door-frame portal to take their place among their fellows, but their eyes continue to glow, seeming to pulsate in the low light, perhaps as a reminder not of their living but of their readiness.

"It is also disappointing that your masters did not bother to send along anyone who might even remotely approach Doom's immense intellectual stature." Whether by coincidence or not, Doom speaks while his head is turned toward Yellowjacket.

"If you could rise to even begin to remotely threaten Doom, you would have been reduced to useless atoms before you realized that weapons had been raised against you. No, you are mistaken: Your trespassing against Latveria is, as all your actions, beneath the notice of Doom. Your transgression is of no concern compared to those perpetrated by your sniveling teammates. Step forward only to bow to Doom."

He turns slowly to Iron Fist. "As for you, student of K'un-Lun, if you would not rise to defend your people from a threat, then you are a fool as well as weakling, a state which brings no surprise or concern to Doom. Though if you believe your American embassies hold no hidden powers, you may wish to investigate once you have earned some semblance of bravery or intelligence.

"As for the woman, she would have not been in danger had you not brought an assault against the state of Latveria. The only threat she posed was on your conscience had harm come to her, which, once again, would have been the fault of you and your fellows.

"Truly, there is none of you to attempt entertaining with feeble attempts at endeavoring to stand as equal to Doom in word or spirit?"

The 'insanity' is yours. Doom could not bothered by anything you could do." He swirls the goblet in his hand in a short circle but does not sip from it.

Behind him on the monitors, in the battle on the street, comes the appearance of humans who are not the Wrecking Crew -- a huddle of four people, one with a TV camera rig on his back, two holding electronic equipment, come into the frame, then cower as the camera view hurtles toward them. In another monitor, Havok appears with his hands raised and the camera view zooms toward him, then the screen bursts into static.

"If Doom cared, he might be perplexed by why you do not understand or recall why your presence is considered an open act of hostility and not just an annoyance to Doom. However, Doom does not care. But Doom will put it in terms you simpletons may understand. Doom will remind you your gathering is considered an act of aggression against the state of Latveria and its representation on your soil, as agreed upon in the pact with your leaders. You were given the opportunity to halt your enmity. Instead you brought war by attacking Doom's property, and thereby Doom. And so it is war you shall have. The power and glory of Doom and Latveria shall be demonstrated and your city shall crumble. Blame your pitiable selves."

Doom's head pivots slowly toward Iron Fist and Wolverine. "And you, martial artist, do you offer nothing? Or you, mutant, who was so full of bluster when you entered this refined arena? Do you still seek to flee?"

She-hulk wasn't going to be able to punch her way out of this. She wasn't sure she was thinking straight, but maybe she could lawyer her way out. She transforms back into Jennifer Walters and steps forward. What's left of her She-hulk outfit hangs loosely on her much smaller body, conveniently still covering the important areas. If anything, the damage she's sustained looks even worse on her human form.

"Save your breath, Pym." Walters says to YJ. "This is obviously not the REAL Doom. It's just a robotic doppleganger programmed to react. The real Doom would have the intelligence and foresight to know he'd better prove his superiority by showing mercy at this point and calling off the attack. Furthermore, he'd have leverage against the government based on whatever deal he made with them. Even better than that, I've offered myself up as a scapegoat, so he'd be able to really stick it to Reed that one of his closest friends was responsible for an international incident and is rotting away in a Latverian prison."

With that, she collapses, the concussion she'd suffered as She-hulk overwhelming her more fragile human form.

Shutting down gamma-irradiated blood to gain 1PP. Takes me to 5.

I'm going to assume Watcher will let me still use Practiced Argument SFX for this pool. Technically, it's bending the rules a bit, but it makes logical sense. This will step back highest die, add d6, and step up my effect die.

Will buy one of Doom's opps for an APPEAL TO DOOM'S EGO d10 stunt. Will buy another one for second stunt: RIVALRY WITH RICHARDS d10. Down to 3PP after that.

Will exploit her own mental stress to get another d12, which will step back to d10 because of Practiced Argument.

Team d10, Crusading Attorney d8, Psych Expert d8, Stunts 2d10, Mental Stress d10, SFX d6
=4d10, 2d8, d6 w/ a stepped up effect die.

10:07, Today: She-Hulk rolled 26,5,3 using 4d10,2d8,d6 with rolls of 6,9,5,6,1,4,3.  mental attack on doom.

Will use my remaining 3PP to add 3 dice to total.
9+6+6+4+3 = 28 total, stepped up d10 = d12 effect, 1 opportunity
0PP left (maybe 1 if Watcher buys the opp)
Exploiting own mental stress takes me to d12+ there and KO's me.

Iron Fist is astonished with She-Hulk's gesture, and the strength of her argument, and her bravery.  Without a doubt, Jennifer Walters is a true hero.  He doesn't want her to rot in a Latverian prison where that insane dictator will run god knows what kind of experiments on her.

He is equally astonished when she reverts back into her human form, and her wounds look far more severe than what they were before.

The Young Dragon catches She-Hulk as she passes out to gently set her down on the floor.

Your government agreed that a gathering of so-called heroes such as yourself would be considered an act of aggression toward the state of Latveria. And now Doom defends himself, his people, his sovereignty, and his right. The masters you bow before were united in agreeing upon this order and Latveria intends to stand against your hostile act."

Doom raises his head toward his drone, now hovering in front of the heroes. From one of its numerous lenses shines a light that becomes the flat hologram of a document. It illuminates the room slightly more than it was before.

Another pair of Doombots appear and step aside.

"Not only is there a clear superiority here, there is also no lack of mercy. Doom is willing to accept your surrender. Assuming your pride as ever keeps you from kneeling before Doom as befits respect for your superior, you have assets to offer. However, know that Latveria," he says as he turns toward Iron Fist. "Has no need for money." He turns toward Captain Marvel."Or pathetic feminine wiles." Toward Wolverine. "Or mewling corners of mutantdom." To She-Hulk. "Or a sad, pitiful scapegoat." To Yellowjacket.  "Or the surrender of one from your own number, which means even less due to your sickening, traitorous cannibalism."

"So the question remains, self-styled heroes." The last word drips from the air. "What are you willing to sacrifice?"

On a monitor behind Doom, a clutch of a half-dozen adults appear before the camera view, which swiftly dives toward them.

Logan knelt down by Jen, and checked her pulse. She was out, and attacking Doom now would get her killed. He ignored the man for now, he was just going to keep gloating. He looked at the monitors, and waiting to see if they where indeed the various leaders Doom had bragged about.

Carol, shaken, moves toward the holographic document, brushing against a Doombot as she limps forward. She's worried about Jen, but Doom has finally given something and maybe it'll help the situation to figure out what it is.

"This must be the pact you were talking about. Typical drama queen, you could have led with this and saved a whollllllle lot of posturing."

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

“Your words have little power. You are the sole element that stands between the end of your city yet you say so little, and mean even less? Weak minds lead to weak actions. So pitifully predictable."

His head turns toward the Captain. "Indeed, before you is a recreation of the pact signed by your leaders. Always available at the cost of a simple request if you ever could consider using your brain, meager as it is, instead of your fists." The mass of text scrolls downward then stops and zooms in. "The piece for which you search is before you." Embedded in a mass of dense legalese, one phrase stands out: “...20 or more super-powered individuals recognized in the public S.H.I.E.L.D. database gathered within 1320 feet of the entrance to the Latverian embassy building shall be considered an act of aggression against the nation of Latveria. Each mutant in that gathering will be counted as two [2] toward this number. Each known felon in that gathering will be counted as three [3] toward this number.” The form ends with a number of signatures, first the president, then the vice-president, as well as Captain America, Nick Fury, and the secretary of state, among others.

“This agreement was not created to be enforced lightly. Still, you were given a choice to withdraw and avoid further harm to yourselves and your profane metropolis. Instead you callously chose to bring your violence upon the representative of the state of Latveria. Doom deigns to repeat himself: You brought this upon yourselves. This destruction is only the fault of your own.”

On a particular monitor behind Doom, with many of the screens focused on the unending fight between the Wrecking Crew and the Doombots, one view goes wild in a blur then falls to static for an instant before recovering and looking up inside the confines of an office building then fixes on a group of three people in casual business attire, terrified and cowering. In another view is another group, possibly another news-crew, and a new environment, as the fight spreads to and beyond its previous boarders, and toward city-dwellers who were not already evacuated.

“You stand in a precarious position. You have precious little to offer Doom. And so your terms shall be dictated to you."
