The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Well.  This went even further south in a bigger hurry..

At least, Matt thinks, the situation is almost under some semblance of control...Daredevil is absolutely outclassed here in the Sheer Power department, and he can't do much to aid Mrs. Storm-Richards with her cosmic force fields...but Bulldozer seems to be having trouble getting his legs out of the molten sidewalk that that mutant's created.  Presumably he wouldn't like having the rest of him stuck in it as well..?

Daredevil sighs, deeply, before vaulting off of the fire escape over the Wrecking Crew, launching his swingline in mid-air to wrap around Bulldozer's neck, and then completes the arc of his flip, using the momentum to hopefully send the big ox backwards, headfirst into the molten concrete that Matt has just deftly avoided...

((Using SFX: Grapple. Add d6 and step up effect die +1 when inflicting a complication on a target; I'm assuming this is okay, since I'm still effectively using my Swingline to Step Up a Complication on a target..?  If this isn't kosher just let me know and I'll re-do.

Team d6, Man Without Fear d8, Swingline d6, Grapple SFX d6, Enhanced Reflexes d8, Acrobatic Master d10

10:41, Today: Daredevil rolled 2,3,5,1,4,5 using d6,d8,d6,d6,d8,d10, unique dice with rolls of 2,3,5,1,4,5.  Bulldozing Bulldozer!

Spending 1PP to add Three to Total, and using SFX to Step Up Effect by 1, leaving:
TOTAL 14, EFFECT D10, 1 OPP
Attempting to Step Up Molten Concrete Complication
Daredevil has 1PP

Reaction: Bulldozer

+d6 to Doom Pool from Opportunity

You could have added Bulldozer's Complication to your dice pool

It wouldn't really be contributing to the pre-existing Complication since it would be its own separate thing, but I can allow it to add to it this time

Bulldozer reaction to Daredevil's Complication attempt, Total: 14, Effect: d10:
Team    d8
Ex-Army    d8
Superhuman Durability    d10
Combat Expert    d8

Bulldozer rolled 7,3,6,1 using d8,d8,d10,d8 ((7,3,6,1)).

Total: 13, Effect: d10
1 Opportunity available (to Daredevil first)

Trapped In Molten Asphalt Complication steps up to d12

Doom Pool: 2d6, 4d8 +d6 = 3d6, 4d8

Bulldozer can stand up to sheer force but speed confounds him. His head spins around trying to track Daredevil but the hero is too quick for his outstretched hands to grab. His stuck feet are not even what stops him from catching up to the red suit bouncing around him -- the hero is just too fast for him. Before he even comprehends what the hero's plan is, Bulldozer finds Daredevil's line around his arms and torso which then tightens to constrict him, along with the molten asphalt around his feet, to near-immobility. "P-too!" He can't even spit out the rope where it goes across his mouth, try as he might. "P-too!"

The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Yellowjacket looks around at the general chaos and to him bloodthirsty fighting and lets with a sigh lets go of his large form and with a pop of displaced air is replaced by the tiny version of himself.

A few moments later a wasp is carrying him along the trajectory that She-Hulk was sent stopping along the way when he notices a home with a smashed section, "I will see that the Avenger's are reprimanded for handling their fights like a contest to see who can out break the city. Mr. Pym has instructed me to put your immediate safety above all other concerns." The he proceeds to use its ability to change from normal to small to free the people trapped within and make the building safe as it can be for a time.

OOC:
Basically he is trying to separate himself from the others in the eyes of the common folks. The 'hero' actually on their side and all that.

In reply to She-Hulk (msg # 58):

Logan scented Jennifer's gamma-irradiated blood, and moved to hurry. He heard her making noise of pain, and was suddenly unsure if she was ok. Granted her cousin had shrugged off seemingly lethal damage...in seconds, but Jen's body worked differently.

"Gotta move faster, dammit!" He said to himself. The building she smashed into at high speeds may not be too stable. He was not sure if she could shrug off a building collapsing on her in her current state. It was all a maybe, and he had to hurry. His claws came out with the typical sound and he prepared to use them to climb to where Jen was.

The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

+d6 to Doom Pool from Opportunity.

It would have worked if the Asset was to find where She-Hulk went so we’ll say it’s a mix of whatever it takes to get from one place to the other.  The Asset die can be used in the first dice pool for the next action.

Doom Pool (3d6, 4d8) reaction to Yellowjacket's attempt to create Asset, Total: 15, Effect: d8 (msg #61):

Watcher rolled 1,6,1,1,2,5,7 using d6,d6,d6,d8,d8,d8,d8 ((1,6,1,1,2,5,7)).

Total: 13, Effect: d8.
3 Opportunities available (first to Yellowjacket).
Asset creation successful.

Yellowjacket loses previous Assets; moves to Group B.

Doom Pool: 3d6, 4d8 +d6 = 4d6, 4d8

The lack of homes in this section of mid-town Manhattan is expected, and it's a relief to find that a lot of the inhabitants of these buildings have vacated in this emergency. As Yellowjacket makes his way to where She-Hulk landed, it's no surprise to find few people when he realizes what building it is.

The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Matt watches in disbelief as the largest Avenger present, at a conflict started by Avengers, turns his back and leaves the entire Wrecking Crew to be dealt with by a handful of un-affiliated do-gooders.

"My God," Daredevil mutters as he struggles to hold an Asgardian-level asshole down in a molten sidewalk using a length of swingline, "maybe Natasha was really on to something.."

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

She-Hulk:
She-hulk slowly pushes herself up onto her hands and knees. A long board that had fallen on top of her slides of to the side and lands with a thud. Blood flows from her nose and pools on the ground beneath her face. One eye is swollen shut and dust clings and mixes with the blood on her face to give her a grim mask. Her hair is matted and tangled with debris. Her unitard is ripped and she's missing a shoe. "Uhhn" she says, trying to focus her one good eye on anything recognizable. "Awww crap!" she says as the last sight she'd want to see right now comes into focus.

Logan finished his climb, moving through the hole Jen had punched into the side of the building with her body. He did not need his exceptional senses to smell the blood now, even if it had been normal. He looked over the damage on her face and body, tried to keep the grim look off his face. He had seen such damage on women before, but it much different circumstances. It did not make him any less angry to see it, even if Jen had no doubt given as good as she had gotten.

He also had no doubt who did this, as their scent was still on Jen. Thunderball and Wrecker. He thought, restraining the growl once more. He had no idea where the wrecking crew was now, but it did not matter. He was here to help Jen first-and track down those bastards later.

His claws withdrew into his hands with the sound they always make, and he moves over to her side. "Hey Jen, you wanna come with me? I can get you back to the avengers mansion, or where ever else you wanna go." He did not touch her, but he offered his hand to help her get to her feet, and to lean on him if she wanted. Granted, it would be a bit odd looking, as she was nearly seven feet tall, and he well under 5'6".

Action:Blindness Complication to take out Piledriver.

Team d10, Underestimated d8, Invisibility d12, Science d8, Piledriver Complication d10
Dice Pool:d12, 2d10, 2d8
06:42, Today: Invisible Woman rolled 10,14,17 using d12,2d10,3d8 ((10,6,8,6,6,5)).
Adding a PP to add a die and put a nail in this conflict.

Result: 24, d10 result, no complications.
Current PP: 0

Reaction: Piledriver
Up Next: Unsure who hasn't gone this round. Havok, maybe?

At second thought, the Invisible Woman was irritated by Piledriver's attempt at smashing her head with a metal box. It emphasized to her that these men were dangerous, and that this conflict needed to be taped down quickly.

Sue Richards lifted Piledriver up another couple feet into the air. Whatever leverage remained was now gone. Sue exhaled sharply, a pointed sigh almost, as she focused on the field that surrounded the Wrecking Crew's resident idiot.

With a thought, the Invisible Woman's field went, well, invisible...from the inside out. Sue willed the light refraction to warp Piledriver's vision. Scientifically, Sue had rendered the internal field transparent.

To Piledriver, it was as if the entire world faded away into blindness.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

There was an extra d8 in that dice pool.

From msg #48: +1 XP to Invisible Woman for using d12 from Doom Pool to affect her (in reaction roll).

From msg #50: -d8 from Doom Pool for adding new threat (Bulldozer).

Reaction to Invisible Woman's Complication attempt, Total: 24, Effect: d10:
Team    d8
Loyal to the Wrecking Crew (but in over his head)    d4
(add to Doom Pool)
Superhuman Durability    d10
Combat Expert    d8

Piledriver rolled 1,4,9,2 using d8,d4,d10,d8 ((1,4,9,2)).

Total: 13, Effect: d8
1 Opportunity (first offered to Invisible Woman)

Extraordinary Success x2 steps up Effect die to d12+.

Complications removed from Wrecker and Thunderball.

Doom Pool: 4d6, 4d8 -d8 (-d6/+d8) = 3d6, 4d8

Suspended in the air, Piledriver suddenly clutches at his face. "Arghhh!" he cried. "My eyes!"

As the Invisible Woman's concentration goes elsewhere, the Wrecker and Thunderball fall to the ground, the field holding them up apparently gone. No harm showes on them but they move sluggishly, rubbing their necks, cautious of what could come next. The both turn slowly toward Piledriver and his cries of losing his sight but only after a moment do they rise fully and look around. The Wrecker looks directly at the Invisible Woman in front of him and the realization of what she has done to his teammate appears on his face like an ignited flame. "Hey," he drawls, the look in his eyes turning to a scowl.  He raises his crowbar. "You witch, I'll -- "

The look on his face slides off as the shadow spreading over the sky covers him as well. He looks up at the machines gathering above him, his mates, the heroes, the intersection, and this part of the city. "Whut the," he mutters, dumbstruck.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The pretty, young girl at the front desk with the big glasses and straight, brown hair turns slowly and smiles, completely unphased by the gigantic, green woman who just crashed through the front of the building and created a crater in the middle of the foyer, as well as the gruff man who followed her in. “Welcome to the embassy for the country of Latveria," she says. "How can I help you?” The rest of the big room is empty and neatly decorated, appearing like the front area of any other office building, save for the huge, green and black Latverian flag hanging over the desk and dominating the area (http://vignette2.wikia.nocooki...00?cb=20150302022432).

Through the immense hole in the front of the building can be seen a swarm of robotic forms launching into the sky, the sun glinting off their metallic forms, shooting toward the direction of the other group of heroes, from where She-Hulk came. They go in squadrons, one after the other, their speed indicating urgency.

The Latverian receptionist sits motionless, facing the heroes who have arrived in the building, a wide smile across her clean, perfect face.

Doom Pool (3d6, 4d8) emotional attack for the heroes’ shock of realizing where they are:
Watcher rolled 4,5,5,4,1,7,1 using d6,d6,d6,d8,d8,d8,d8 ((4,5,5,4,1,7,1)).

Total: 12, Effect: d8
2 Opportunities (1 available to each reacting hero)

Defensive powers (Invisibility, Durability, Stamina, etc.) are not eligible to be added to dice pool to react.

Moon Knight is included in that group though he has not interacted with the others yet.

Reactions Needed: She-Hulk, Wolverine, Moon Knight, Yellowjacket
Next Action will be decided after all reactions have been rolled.

Hovering in the sky is a melange of Doombots, all of them duplicates of the next, levitating with one hand extended. They are all imitations of the armor of Victor Von Doom himself, covered in shining silver with green plating over the torso, mid-section, and head, with numbers and letters scrolled across shoulders and helmets to give them individual designation. The threat comes from the one in the lead, floating closer to the combatants on the street than the multitude behind it.

Before the bots could fully activate-Logan's senses picked up the hum of power to the slide away doors. The smell of ozone as the weapons system came online. "Look alive Jen-I think we are in the wrong place..." He said as the snick of indestructible metal claws once again was heard. He growled at the bots as they moved into position.

Of course he had to butt in. He really could not help himself. He saw a buddy in trouble and charged ahead. Dealing with Doom had never been good for him, and almost never had a good outcome. However, he was worried Jen was not in fighting form to take anymore serious damage...and he had to get her out of here. While worrisome, it was not the first time Logan had faced down a foe with more raw power than he had.

In reply to Watcher (msg # 68):

Jen slowly picks herself off the floor and stands up to her full height on her own power, albeit wobbly. Standing a foot and a half taller than Logan, they make quite the odd couple. "Thanks." she says to him with a raspy voice, like she has a cold. "I got this." she reassures. She glances out the hole she just made in the wall and sees all the doombots flying off towards the battle. Even through her concussed, foggy brain, that just didn't make sense.

She looks through her one good eye at the perfect-looking receptionist and can't help wondering whether it was a robot. Like the one Reed used in the Baxter Building. Doom was always the copying Reed.

Drawing on her training as an attorney, she calms herself and puts on a stoic face. This was just a robot receptionist. It didn't seem to care that she'd just crashed through the wall. "We'd like to talk to the Ambassador." she says in as professional a manner as she can muster in her current condition.

The Invisible Woman knew Doombots. They were an ever-present part of her story with the Four, from the earliest days through to the present. The boys were in Latveria right now, which meant that whatever sort of incident that might happen now may have dangerous repercussions for the Four's mission half a world away.

Sue had to get this situation under control. She knew Havok, Daredevil, and Danny Rand mostly by reputation, but they all seemed pretty stand-up. Still, the Doombots presented a problem for which none of them were quite familiar.

But Sue knew Doombots. Despite their menace, she knew to steel herself and prepare for the worst.

The destruction wrought so far is nothing compared to what this battle could cost the city, and its inhabitants. And certainly Doom would use it as an excuse to publicly shame The United States. For a moment, Alexander Summers is frozen, torn between the desire to lash out and the realization that the fallout could further impact The Avengers' reputation.

Cap wanted us to check this out...not start an international incident. We know The Wrecking Crew is working for Doom now. Maybe that's all the intel Cap needs.

Looking back to Daredevil: "No...even though they are outside of their embassay's airspace, we're the ones who need to stand down."

Turning back to the Doombot, plasma no longer dripping from the hands at his sides, Havok considers his next move carefully.

Msg #76: As explicitly stated in msg #69, the Stamina power was not eligible for a reaction dice pool (but I like your explanation).

Msg #77: +Step to Doom Pool from Opportunity.
Yellowjacket takes d8 emotional stress.
Assuming that Yellowjacket has entered the embassy, has assembled alongside She-Hulk and Wolverine, and is addressing the receptionist.

Msg #78:Havok takes d8 emotional stress.

We will keep going without Moon Knight for the moment. He can join in later when he's ready.

For Initiative order, we will alternate as if the groups are one (for now). Timing and pacing are important so even though both groups are separated, their actions will alternate as if they are together. It is acceptable to pick someone from the other group for Next Action. And, as always, feel free to post dialogue and minor, non-dice pool actions.

Roll against the Doom Pool to switch groups (to simulate finding the other place and traveling to it).

Inside the embassy, the receptionist turns toward She-Hulk and says through her perfect smile, “‘Amabassador?’,” cocking her head to the side in question.

A Doombot comes up behind the assembled heroes, silently floating through the hole the building through which She-Hulk gracelessly entered.  It hovers a few feet above the floor and the assorted debris, energy cracking from its hands, its eyes dark, but making not a move beyond moving toward the heroes and stopping at half the distance between the front of the building and the receptionist's desk.

For both groups, the air is still, the area is quiet, and the space is calm... for the moment.

-d8 to Doom Pool to add Doombot CK-6YKK615
Doom Pool: 3d6 (-d6/+d8), 2d8 -d8 = 2d6, 2d8

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

Havok's response, and his subsequent surrender to the Doombots, leaves Matt feeling alone against the world.  Not exactly one to give himself up to even American authorities, and getting none of the answers he wants from his fellow heroes, Daredevil turns his attention to The Wrecker even as he keeps Bulldozer tied down.

"I hope you're happy, Dirk.  I told you to just walk away.  Now look at this.  Doombots, Dirk.  You know what that means.  Tell your men to stand down."

((Go Go Catholic Guilt!

Attempting to Step Up Wrecker's Emotional Stress and hopefully take the leader out of the fight.

+d6 to Doom Pool from Opportunity

The Menace Specialty is used for emotional attacks, not Psyche.

The Wrecking Crew stand stock-still, staring up at the Doombots gathering in the sky, mouths agape. "What're you worried about us for, hero?" He steps back, keeping a nervous eye on the sky. "We ain't the problem!"

Wrecker defending Daredevil's emotional attack, Total: 15, Effect: d4
Team    d10
Once Fought Thor and Won (but knows he isn't winning this one)    d4
(+step to Doom Pool)
Menace Expert    d8

Wrecker rolled 10,4,6 using d10,d4,d8 ((10,4,6)).

Total: 16, Effect: d4

Doom Pool: 2d6, 2d8 +d6 (-d6/+d8) = 2d6, 3d8

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The Invisible Woman knew that this could go wrong, and quickly escalate into a much bigger problem. She rose up on an invisible platform into the air, her hands up defensively. As she flew upwards she dropped Piledriver back down to the ground, his sight instantly restored.

"Latverian defense protocols, please listen," Sue chose her words carefully. "I am Susan Storm Richards. Your nation's king and I have a long, complicated history. I can assure you that we intend no harm to you or your embassy. We offer to cover the cost of all damages as a show that this was accidental."

Sue Richards cleared her throat, then continued. "These men--" She waved a hand towards the Wrecking Crew, "--have a history of violence and destruction. Our attempts to contain them caused this accident. We will peaceably separate now, and offer restitution. Let us move forward as if this incident never happened."

Am I attacking the Doom Pool? Am I mentally "attacking" the Doombots? I'm unsure which is the best tactic.

Team d10, Independent Woman d8, Flight d6 (Gaining equal footing, feeling more impressive, denoting her history with Doom himself), Psyche 2d8.
Dice Pool: d10, 3d8, d6

I have 0 PP left.
