Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The Doombot originally in the lead, the one that broadcast the initial threat, alters its trajectory toward the heroes rescuing the woman and floats away from the swarm of robots in the sky behind it, toward Havok instead.  "ENERGY RESISTANCE DETECTED," comes the hollow, robot voice. The crackling around its hands dissipates but panels on its forearms slide away, revealing racks of foot-long missiles which fire once they come to the surface. These issue a furious attack against the hero on the street, obliterating more of his surroundings as they draw closer to obliterating him. "ELIMINATE THREAT. ELIMINATE THREAT."

Physical attack on Havok:

The Wrecking Crew continue to tear up massive chunks of the sidewalk and hurl them into the sky, frequently striking a Doombot so hard it explodes on contact then rains its remains on the street, but eventually their aims start to wander and they are clearly throwing concrete into the sky haphazardly. "It's like they don't end," the Wrecker cries. "They don't end!" His face is pulled in terror, mirroring his compatriots.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The sound begins buried under the cacophony of Doombots terrorizing the city streets while seeking to gun down the heroes but soon rises, a popping, a few at first then more. Its lack of volume affirms its distance, as the commotion, even over the immediate noise in the intersection, seems to be not near, but close enough to make out the explosions of Doombots. Well into the sky on the far side of the swarm there are Doombots taking aim at a flying target that is moving so fast it is hard to see, zooming between combatants, dive-bombing here and there then coming back up, frequently leading the Doombots to collide with one another or to blast one of their own while trying to hit a target that in an instant has already shot away. Some Doombots are damaged and a few explode to pieces outright, their parts falling to empty sidewalks or areas of the street that people have vacated. These controlled sackings are inspiring for a moment until it becomes clear that it is only a drop in an ocean-sized bucket that does not seem to make a discernible difference.

Meanwhile, another group of Doombots break off from the crowd in the sky and make their presence known, hovering above the heroes and wreckage in the intersection, energy sparking from each's hands to the next like a concurrent stream.

She-hulk puts her forearms up in a boxer's block to absorb the energy blast from the Doombots. It blocks most but not all of the damage. She-hulk ignores the pain in her arms - it was minor compared to how her head was throbbing.

She-hulk was starting to get impatient. "I've had about enough with the robots." she growls through gritted teeth. As her anger mounts, she takes a page from her cousin's book, grabs a car in each hand and slams them together like two giant hands clapping, sending shockwaves roiling through the clouds of Doombots.

Will spend PP to add 3rd die = 10+8+4=22 total, d12 to the singular doombot, 2d12 to the 2d8 mob, and d8 to the 1d8 mob.

d6 Effect beats d4 Scene Distinction. Danger: Woman Trapped Scene Distinction removed

An instant after the woman covers her face and her body braces for impact, the hero's fist goes through the windshield like it were water. When the woman realizes she is no longer breathing stale air, she takes her hands from her face and her expression bursts into excitement and exasperation for having been rescued. She jumps from the car seat and out through the cleared windshield just as the debris around the car shifts and crushes it. Her arms go around Iron Fist in an appreciative embrace. "Oh, thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you -- " She squeezes him tight, tears running from her cheeks. When she pulls back and her lips purse to kiss him, her eyes go past the martial artist and into the sky. "Look out!" she screams. Behind and above the heroes and this woman has assembled a tight cadre of Doombots, all bearing down on those in the street below. They work in a unison unseen by the grouping thus far, deadly energy flowing from their hands to one another and building in intensity until it is blinding. Then all at once that energy erupts to eradicate everything on the street below them, with the two heroes and the woman and everything around them squarely in their sights.

The cars smashed together in She-Hulk's grasp is enough to lay low the mass of Doombots. It is not enough to destroy them all, but the ones closest to the jade giantess and Wolverine are burst to bits in the shockwave of the collision of metal. The remainder of the Doombots are at least staggered. The glowing eyes look around, realigning their systems while coming upright again.

From the pile of robots comes one in particular, indistinct from the rest save for its boldness in approaching the heroes. Its eyes glow brighter than those around it. Its tinny voice is the same as its departed ally: "YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE TREATY. YOUR ACT OF AGGRESSION AGAINST THE COUNTRY OF LATVERIA WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. YOU MUST BE ELIMINATED." Like the others before, it stretches out its hand, energy building instantly in its palm.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #2: "...The Twilight's Final Gleaming"

The heroes and the woman brace instinctively against the furious torrent of energy inches from obliterating them entirely. The lady closes her eyes tight, saying a short prayer in Iron Fist's ear. Her whispers stretch across an instant, to a moment, to long seconds. There is no impact, only the noise of explosions rising above the ones constantly present since the Doombots arrived in the area. The sound, though nearly deafening, is preferable to the fate of being targeted by the robots. Cautiously, she opens her eyes, as slowly as possible, and looks up. "Wha -- ?" she mutters.

By the time she can process what is happening, the force blasts which were a mortal threat a short time again have nearly dissipated, hanging in the air. From what she can tell, even though it makes no sense, the blasts were suspended mid-air, short feet from the trio in the intersection, leaving no effect and now fading into the air. The Doombots react by freezing, looking around, searching for an answer to why their attack did not connect. Shortly, the answer is clear.

Invisible Woman stands amidst the destruction, hand outstretched, looking sternly at the two heroes and their female companion. She stands still, eyes focused. Her action seems to have no effect but only because it is not visible. Spots of residual force energy dissolve in the air above them, indicating a barrier that has been created around the three people. Though it is not visible, it is more than enough to protect those under it.

The Doombots change their focus to the Fantastic Four heroine, and pause, as if awaiting an order. Just then, another unit of robots comes behind them, blasting away at the street and heroes below as if the past moments and their compatriots' attack had not occurred. The destruction continues, energy blasts glancing off the shield around Daredevil, Iron Fist, and the woman, as well as that which the Invisible Woman has created around herself, but it still affects the street. The asphalt buckles as if it were the sea, sending shockwaves from the force brought down on it, and only the most hardy or agile are able to stay standing. This number does not include Sue Storm, who loses her footing as the ground below her bursts, sending her away and to the other side of a truck-sized piece of blacktop. She does not emerge from it.

The air around the two heroes and woman clears suddenly, slightly cleaner from the smoke and metal smell that has been at their level, both collections of air similar and now mingling after being separated. Daredevil senses it first: The invisible barrier is gone.

Havok hesitates, just long enough for the Doombot's vengeful blast to cut into him, forcing him to the crumbled ground. Wolverine slashes away, not realizing that his face has gone red either from edging toward his berserker fury or trying to suppress it. The Doombot before him, the others obscured by a mist of dust coming from the debris of the building, does not react to Wolverine's complexion and does not dodge away from the mutant's claws, either because it is programmed with the hubris to think that it can withstand such a deadly force or because it cannot match the mutant's furious speed. Regardless, Wolverine's attack is enough sheer off a plate from its chest, exposing wires and gears and robotic innards. The thing staggers backward but does not fall. "ELIM -- ELIM -- ELIM -- " it sputters but comes back with eyes glowing as red as Wolverine's pulsing pate.
