Doom Pool (2d6, 3d8, 3d10, d12) reaction to Ms. Marvel's attempt to create "Not Your Enemy" Asset, Total: 16, Effect: d10:
Indoor Fire Scene Complication d8

Watcher rolled 6,6,1,3,8,1,9,3,6 using d6,d6,d8,d8,d8,d10,d10,d10,d8 ((6,6,1,3,8,1,9,3,6)).

Total: 17, Effect: d10

1 Opportunity (available first to Ms. Marvel)

With precision greater than just that needed to transform light into a heated weapon, especially while holding a fit, grown woman in her arms, Ms. Marvel etches the words into the wall. As she does, one of the creatures, the one that had most recently assaulted Justice in a forceful body-check, turns, barks something in its infernal vocabulary, then breaks from the room, the same way it came in. When Marvel finishes the words, the creatures have not changed their actions, casting doubt that they even understand the English language... or even care.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

The dark creature -- the one that grappled near the ceiling with the Toad and was immobilized by Justice -- now stands to one side of the room, with a full view of Ms. Marvel's message on the wall. It makes no sudden move, but lifts its hands slowly, as if to say it has no hostile intent.

Then: BOOM! The sound of a blast can be heard from the back of the mansion over the crackling of the roaring flames.

The creature that attacked Iron Man and many of the others in the room, including producing a dark cloud that still stays around She-Hulk, crouches at the ready facing the creature that put its hands up, which now turns to each of its opponents, then slowly reaches a hand to motion toward the fire that rages near the back of the mansion, with flames threatening to overtake the foyer in which the combatants stand, silent and largely unmoving.

Justice nodded approvingly at Ms. Marvel writing "Excellent thinking Ma'm..." he said as he measured the reaction of the fiends.

Something clicked in his mind "They want us to help put the fire out..." he told her "I'll cover the whole area with force field and try to smother the flames."

Lifting both hands in the air Justice flex his fingers, he never tried to create such a large force-field nor did he try to smother fire with it before. The flame begun to glow with purple glow as he wove thread of force into the pouring more and more power creating a force-field so tight not even oxygen can pass through it.

The visual representation of Justice's telekinesis glows purple over the flames in the foyer, and Captain Marvel moves into position to absorb the fire as energy, but, as clever as the heroes' intentions are, the blaze in their vicinity represents only a fraction of the total fire -- which Marvel saw begin -- and even as they ably extinguish the flames near them, the fire rages on in the back of the mansion.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

"Get away," a voice says from the back of the room. The sound is quiet, one that can barely be heard over the crackling of the flames nearby, and metallic, as if it escapes from an old, computerized voice-modulator. Iron Man has been silent since entering the mansion, with a chance that the attack by the creature sliding through the room had been critical, yet the Avenger has stayed standing, but hunched over, as if nursing a great pain in his torso, holding his stomach with one arm and his head with the other hand, his movements jerky and his joints creaking. "All these monsters... have to... get away..." he says, the voice, already low, cracking through its modulation. His head turns, surveying the room, but his helmet hides the life within his eyes. "Get away..." he says, rising to stand upright, revealing a lower torso plate that has been broken open, spilling wires like human innards, with dangling, sparking cables. "Get away," he says, the voice clear and loud now. His arms reach to his sides and fingers stretch at the ready, and illumination bursts from the center of his chest, lighting the room more intensely than the nearby fire. "GET AWAY FROM ME!" he cries, then promptly stretches his arms before him, and thin pods click and pop from the backs of his forearms. Before any of the figures in the room can decipher what is happening, missiles launch from the armor's pods and scream through the room, crashing and exploding into foe and friend alike. The missiles are tiny but carry an impressive, explosive payload -- surely one of Tony Stark's most effective, and deadliest, creations, now used against all on view in front of him, including his own allies.

The creature nearest to Iron Man -- the one who has taken a defensive stance in front of Justice after attacking the young hero with a blade -- takes the brunt of the explosive attack, as well as being assaulted from its blind-side and likely surprised by the action. The missiles erupt into the creature in a direct hit, the dark cloud around it offering no protection from the volley of launched projectiles. "Aaah -- !" the female creature gasps in no alien language as it falls to the floor, the savage attack tearing apart the dark mist around it and likely the body underneath it but masked by the explosion. The katana it was holding falls to the floor, dissipating into the same dark smoke when it leaves its grasp.

Ms. Marvel snarled at the sight of Iron Man's barrage of high-tech weaponry, and she steeled herself against the impact. Karla swept her body over a still-unconscious Black Widow, and willed her protective field to take the brunt of Tony's attack.

Ms. Marvel rose up effortlessly into the once she was sure Natasha was safe and the impact subsided. She quickly glided to the forefront of where Iron Man was evidently losing it.

As Moonstone, Karla Sofen often dealt with unhinged people, and it was her talent for getting them under control that kept the villainous psychotherapist in demand. Now, Karla hoped she could translate this skill into coralling Tony into submission.

Ms. Marvel gave off a subtle shimmer if gold-white light, radiating the energy as a series  calming pulses. She bathed the entire area in this soothing light, and Karla spoke in a low, methodical tone that she developed from hard-won experience. "Iron Man--" began Ms. Marvel, before correcting herself, "--Tony. I need you to get yourself under control. You are hurting people, and you are endagering Natasha. Someone is screwing with our minds, our perceptions, Tony. I need you to right yourself and fix things, because that is what you do, Stark. Fix. Things."

Karla held her breath, hoping that her words and the shifting cascade of light would be enough to shut down Iron Man's assault.

Justice eyes grew wide with shock and sense of betrayal "No Mr. Start they... we are not the enemy..."

It was too late the missiles trailed away leaving a trail of carnage and destruction in their path.

Today Justice powers were stretched beyond anything he ever did, not even in the deadliest fight with the New Warriors did he found himself so strained, physically, emotionally and mentally. Whenever the young man thought he had reached his limit he found he needed to push more and push he did.

He grabbed the missiles, all of them... all he could see and hold... he could not hold them together, not for long so he aimed them high into the sky into a force funnel he created directing their explosions away from the people in the foyar away where his forcefield could bear the brunt of the attack.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

The heroes are able to take care of Iron Man's missiles -- deflecting off Ms. Marvel's force-shield, avoided by Captain Marvel, Justice sending them upward -- but while there is no bodily harm done from them, the foyer and mansion in general takes a beating. In particular, the ceiling where Justice sends the deadly projectiles blasts apart, letting much of what was above come crashing down onto the ground floor. The wreckage is away from the beings in the room -- Justice sent the missiles away the combatants -- but the crashing of what was above to where they are shrinks the room with debris. The detritus that Justice was able to lift with his mind is now itself buried. If there was little hope for escape through the front of the mansion before, there is even less now.

Meanwhile, the creatures that were also targets of Iron Man's attacks rally unto themselves. The one that attacked Toad seems to disappear between volleys of missiles, its dark mist swallowing it, then reappearing in mist at a different location across the room, in repeat succession. The scent of peppermint momentarily overrides the stench of smoke from the nearby fire. When the launching of missiles finally end, the creature finally comes to rest near its fallen ally, the one first taken out by Iron Man's weapons. The creature who originally attacked Iron Man on its way into the room creates a barrier of darkness around it but it comes too late, with missiles evading the defense and exploding around the creature, bringing it low, but it still stands.

The pods that launched Iron Man's missiles click repeatedly -- his ammunition perhaps empty, but before he can order another wave of weapons, Ms. Marvel is in front of him. He looks up at her, his helmet still covering up the life his eyes might show. His hands close over his palms, his arms lower, his body betrays a guard dropping. "What..." he stammers through the crackling voice-modulator, and looks at his hands. "I..." he sputters, looking back up at Marvel, then around the room that is coming down around them or in the process of doing so, with that disaster on one side and fire on the other.

Just as Iron Man silently lifts his head toward the top of the stairway leading to the second floor of the mansion, a figure stumbles from the back of the mansion. The costume exhibits the presence of Pyro, the mutant master of fire. His mask is askew, his goggles shattered, and the lower of his half of his face covered in blood, but more notably is his orange-and-red outfit singed black and smoldering. He may have been able to resist whatever energy had been brought to bear against him, but he could not fully defend against it. As such, as he stumbles into the foyer among the other combatants, he spits a mouthful of blood then falls face-first to the floor.

"I'm a bit stymied, to be honest," admitted the new Ms. Marvel. She knew the monsters she saw seemed to be working collaboratively, showing mercy, even avoiding combat with her and the other Avengers in an uneasy, vague truce. Ironically, the woman who spent her adult life studying the human mind was at a loss to explain what amounted to mass hallucinations targeting the two different factions. "But I believe our focus needs to remain getting this fire under control. This, sadly, is well out of my wheelhouse. Is there anyway you can use your mind powers to deprive the fire of oxygen on a large scale?" offered Karla, before explaining, "My talents are more...offensive."

The creature that removed an ally from the foyer reappears next to the creature that re-entered the room carrying another. The smell of peppermint mixes with that of smoke.

Iron Man shudders, stumbling back and holding his head then looking at his hands. “I... I don’t know what happened. I saw... saw... horrible things. Things I thought were coming to... to... I thought they were --” His head jerks up toward the top of the staircase, as if hearing or seeing something that no one else senses.

She-Hulk stops her silent climb up the foyer stairs and turns to face the rest of the room.  The steps have been surprisingly intact through the fighting, enough to still gain access to the upper floors of the mansion, and enough to make a stand. The jade giantess had been covered by a thick layer of the same mist that swirls around the enemy creatures, applied by the same creature that attacked Iron Man initially, not enough to disguise her as a creature, but enough to slow her movement. Now, as she turns and flexes her mighty muscles, the mist explodes around her, falling in pieces.

A woman’s cackle from the top of the room shatters any tranquility that had come over the room with its momentary dearth of violence: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.” The fire still crackles as it rages but the laughter instantly rises above it, challenging it as the greatest threat in the immediate vicinity.

The creature that sparred with Ms. Marvel and that Justice kept under his telekinetic hold turns to the stairs and issues a garbled proclamation. It hops into the air then shuttles straight to the top of the stairs but its path is a collision-course with the silent, assured She-Hulk. There is a chance it could have sped past the giantess but She-Hulk's dexterity is great and her reach is greater. In an assured move, She-Hulk's backhand glides through the air to collide with the creature just as it comes to pass by, causing an explosive impact -- KRAKKK! -- and sending the creature in a faster trajectory across the room, straight into a wall. The creature crashes into the interior structure, not going through it but leaving a massive dent before falling, unconscious and battered, to the littered floor.

He lifts it to float around his teammate but She-Hulk, staring out at the room with glassy, unblinking eyes, is unphased by the junk moving around her. Since it would scarcely harm her irradiated hide, it is not likely she would have been moved by the trash around her anyway. Still she stands in the way toward the location of the ghastly laughter at the top of the stairs.

Meanwhile, the creature who just re-entered the room with the other creature on its back and which had previously body-checked Justice, steps up and turns toward the stairs, with dark energy forming around its hands, arms, and torso, pointed toward She-Hulk.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Other than the fire, there is no other activity in the room, and the sudden calm is unnerving, as if it carries the promise of a storm. You all know all too well that in a world like yours, the calmer the environment, the more calamitous the oncoming disaster.

The creature that attacked Justice then left the room then returned switches its lower appendages and gains a sturdier stance, done with one volley of blasts directed at She-Hulk on the stairs, and steels itself, arms outstretched, for another.
