Howdy!

As an ice-breaker, I will ask you what is the one thing you would change about the Star Wars settin

Nothing at all!
1) I like the ewoks in their isolated setting. Same for the gungdans. I don't think that either should be a playable race, but then if you wanted to sell more books everything would be a playable race :)

Howdy back! :-),

I do like the idea of some, more primitive aliens sticking to their home planet.  But if a player really wants to play a monoplanetary species, I will probably allow it.

For a little while, I may double post in the OOC and Crew Lounge (player) threads.  This is because I want to make sure my replies get to you (it can sometimes be difficult to guess which forum a message might be in).

Once the game starts, the Crew Lounge will be largely retired, having served its purpose and the OOC thread will be the main as well as default thread.

OK, at this writing, most everyone who has applied has been approved as a Player for this game.

For the few exceptions, as RPoL's software requires a character name in order to add a player, I have not yet added any player whose character name (for whatever reason) was unclear to me.

I will correct this as soon as I get their replies.  Please be patient with me, this forum is new (and wonderful) but especially NEW to me.

I am sleepy and going to bed.  I have a fasting blood test in the morning and I would rather be asleep than hungry.  I should reply to tonight's replies tomorrow.

Hello all.

Hmm, I don't like the 'Midichlorians'. What's wrong with simple genetics?

Note to the GM
If you really want to have a GM thread for notes, it should be hidden from the players' view. You can do that by changing the GM thread to 1 (or something other than 0)

Right! I hate Midichlorians! I liked it when the Force was more of a mystery

In Star Wars? Why would he want to hide them? The milieu is really big on cut-scenes and flashbacks. We may not know that the Death Star is about to clear the planet, but the audience sure does.

It depends on the content of the GM notes, and whether one metagames or not.

Most people don't metagame, in my experience, and most GMs hold something back to add a little sting for anyone who does.

That was my first choice as well. Next would be that Ewoks have been switched to wookies for Return of the Jedi.

Perhaps instead of ewoks or wookies, instead bikini clad Twi'leks with a love for heavy weapons?

Ok, I'm going to make that real for you. Bib Fortuna in a bikini.

I do have to agree with the whole midichlorians thing. What was he even thinking? Did it have to be a biological reason all? My guess is that he couldn't think of another way to rationalize any other characters knowing in advance that Anikin was going to be a powerful force user. Lack of creative thinking on his part.

You'd think he could have just said that Anakin was so strong in the Force that Qui-Gon could feel his echoes of the Force when they were close together.

I thought that was how they found Jedi in most of the EU, anyway.

They originally had to invent their own testing to try and figure out who had the force.  I remember a few scenarios where a Jedi would learn the unfortunate news that their wouldn't cut it.  After a while, at least one jedi could detect... I believe it was Mon Mothma.  She was mentioned in a couple of spots having found potential jedi through the force alone... at least until she got a face full of nano-machines

Undercover rebel.

Even in IV - VI, the Jedi could sense the force in others.
Vader "I sense something, a presence I've not felt since...", "The force is strong in this one", "My son is with them, I felt it".
Luke "Vader is on that ship, I can feel it, I'm endangering the mission, I shouldn't have come".
Yoda "Strong you are with the force"
etc.

And in the Expanded Universe (which this game takes with a grain of salt as should all fans), there were those who could sense further with time and effort.

Re: The Cantina (Game Forum Default & OOC Thread [Read First])

Team,

Although I should have plenty of time to get this game ready by Jan. 1st, this week is a little busy until the weekend.  So please bear with me.  Let me start working tonight and see how far I can get tonight. :-)

First, everyone who sent me a personal message should now have Player status in this game.  I will upgrade Players to Editors upon beginning play, if they wish.  If this does not seem the case for you, let me know in a private message and I will try and correct any trouble.

Second, please forgive my apparent slowness in fully utilizing this forum.  It works very differently from any game forum I have been in.  I intend to activate character sheets very soon but I need to know if that requires the exact incarnation of the D6 rules we will be using. If not, let me know and I will activate them.  Otherwise, let's get the actual version of the rules narrowed down and I will then activate the character sheets.

In any case, let's get the specific rules version nailed down.  It is the most pressing question right now.

Here is a provisional list of players and their preferences regarding rules systems.  I am listing you all by your character name, which seems to be how this delightfully different board does things.

Akiri  Has OpenD6, open to other systems
Celes Varik  1SW preferred
Nate Stryker  No preference expressed
Shen-Nuyun  Has 2SWRE but open to other systems
Thuk  Open to any system
TwoOneBee  Has 1SW, open to other systems
Vanz Garren  2SW preferred
Zane Konig  Open to any system
Zekk Vekarr  2SWRE preferred

If I have misrepresented you, my apologies and please correct me.  Since the time I have asked the question, Vanz has let me know of a Creative Commons evolution of the 2SWRE; the Star Wars, Second Edition, Revised, Expanded and Updated (to, roughly, include the prequels).

Check it out here:

http://d6holocron.com/downloads/books/REUP.pdf

or here:

http://vengersatanis.blogspot.com/2014/11/d6-star-wars-rpg-revised-expanded-and.html

Consider the 2SW REUP rules to be a new legitimate choice of rules and update your preferences, if needed.  My thanks to Vanz for pointing these out to me.

I will try to get to some more replies tonight (if I'm lucky) or tomorrow (playing the odds).

Re: The Cantina (Game Forum Default & OOC Thread [Read First])

I will be trying to answer your initial private messages as I get the time.

In the meantime, I am working on activating the Charcter Sheets.  What is the best document format for uploading character sheets?  Do I need to know the exact version of the rules to start activating sheets?

These questions are likely to be the first of many I will be asking.  Should I start using the RPoll feature?
As a contrast, I am including a humorous poll from Straw Poll to see if we like this method better.

Check it out at:

http://www.strawpoll.me/6036085

More tonight if I get time.

Re: The Cantina (Game Forum Default & OOC Thread [Read First])

As far as character sheet formats go, I have seen some very pretty sheets on Rpol but tend to just use .txt. Works everywhere.

No, you do not need to know the exact iteration of the rules to activate the character sheets, and indeed many Rpol games are entirely free-form and use no rules whatsoever.

Re: The Cantina (Game Forum Default & OOC Thread [Read First])

Hi everyone! I'll be shooting things in the face for you. Or preferably acting as a "face shooty deterrant".

Regarding character sheets, what you'll want to do really depends on how much transparency you want. There's a Character Sheet section on the Character Details page, but only that player and the GM can see it. If you want players to see each others' sheets, you'll need to have us use the Character Description section, which we can freely edit without activating anything. Might be easier. Even so, we'll need a particular format for the sheets regardless of where they're put, but they'll still just be text typed into the field rather than uploaded document files.

Really, I'd recommend using a simple sheet layout at first. Name, Species, Description, the six Attributes, Character Points, Equipment. The only thing that would change between editions of the game would be what skills we'd be using, and that can be filled in as needed.

As for one thing I'd like to change from the films, I wish there was no Luke/Leia sibling reveal. It didn't make much sense, it threw off the intended love triangle, and it led to really awful scenes.

I also have unpopular things to say about Ewoks. :P

EDIT: Oh, but if you /do/ wanna activate sheets without designing your own format first, all you do is go to GM Menu -> Character Sheets, "toggle whether character sheets are editable", and then "All On". Otherwise on the Character Sheets page, you can "edit character sheet templates" to give us all the same format at once without having to do it individually. Found out about that button recently, and it saved me several headaches.
